They have many different fabics and a vast selection to choice from. Different price points range in the store. The lowest price that I saw per yard was around $15. Probably lower options but that was from what I saw. There are different people working the store, walking around. No one really came to ask if any help was needed. The second walked in, I was greeted so warmly and I knew my luggage space was in trouble. They have a great selection and amazing prices with the bottom floor having some silk blends for $4 the yard! I didn't intent to buy anything and left with 8 yards! They're some of my favorite fabrics ever so I have no regrets. They gave me a great deal and I didn't even ask for it. I wanted a lining for a skirt I have and brought it with me for reference. The shopkeeper was beyond helpful- he saved me money too! First, I picked a fabric not realizing it was expensive. It was not me but him who checked that I was willing to pay for an expensive fabric to line my not so expensive skirt. I realized he was right, and he immediately directed me towards a much cheaper fabric that would suit my purposes. Then, I asked his opinion on how many yards he thought I would need. I told him I was thinking 3 or 4, and after taking a look at my skirt, he assured me that 3 would be plenty. He easily could have sold me too many yards of a fabric that was expensive. Instead, he took the time to help me with my individual needs, and did it with a smile. I had a little trouble understanding his accent at times, but whenever I asked him to repeat himself, he was patient with me. I can't wait to start my next project, just so I can come back to this cute little jungle of bolts.

They have a large variety of basic fabric but the price was almost $2 ro $3 more than places I normally shop. I ask the guy if that was due to location and after covid...he said yes. If I had gone on Yelp reviews alone, I never would've gone to Chic Fabric. Instead, I would have visited Paron and AK Fabric (which I did, except I found them too expensive and their range of prints and soft dress fabrics limited). But I'm thrilled that I stumbled upon this shop anyway! Yes the store is a bit cramped, but the selection of printed silks (which is what I was looking for) was excellent. Pretty and very well priced ($12 a yard for some really lovely silk fabric -- which to me is a good price since I was paying a similar price for cotton online and in Brooklyn). The shop owner, who is from Bombay, was friendly and I didn't notice any staring and I wasn't followed around by some bothersome employee. So, all in all an excellent experience and I'm definitely going back. (Also, I'm honestly not looking for great service when I'm shopping in this neighborhood, just good fabric.) Having said that, the shop might not be for everyone. Depending on what fabric you're looking for, it may not be the right place for you... I noticed some pretty cotton printed fabrics at the back of the shop and as I said, they have some lovely silk... but if you're looking for a wider range of cotton fabrics, polyester or spandex/glittery or sequined fabrics, then you may want to go elsewhere. Best advice from someone who has scoured the Garment District for a day? Put aside a couple of hours, visit every store on 39th and 38th and see what you like! It took me many visits to a variety of stores to find the fabric I loved (which was here, at Chic). Also, as a side note: if you are looking for RAYON, be warned that I couldn't find it ANYWHERE (though I did find some rayon mix fabric). Apparently, it's not a fabric that is easily found in these parts. If you want rayon, go on Etsy!

The staff isn't the most polite, they were kind of curt and followed me around and kept asking me what I want. I chose a pink lace fabric that costed $35/yd. One of the staff cut the fabric for me, but then proceeded to dragg the fabric on the floor, and didn't listen to me when I told him not to do that. Really?! For such expensive fabric, you'd drag it along the floor?! What the heck! Thanks for dirtying up the beautiful fabric I agreed to buy from you! Right after leaving, when I explored another fabric store close by, I instantly felt buyer's regret because I saw a similar fabric, but prettier and more cost-efficient. I wish I hadn't bought from Fabric House, but maybe I'll just use what I bought for a future project.

I wanted to get some inexpensive but nice fabric to recover some dining chairs, so I took a trip to 8th Ave. with a list of stores. World Fabrics was perhaps the third one I happened upon. The selection of fabrics was great, and most important the sales staff was so helpful. Ben, the sales associate who ended up helping me, was very friendly (without being creepy!) and spent a lot of time helping me, even though I made it clear I was only going to be buying a couple yards of fabric. In the end I spent $8 for a generous 2.5 yard swath. He was unfailingly helpful and courteous the whole time. Plus, his Borat-esque accent was charming! Go see Ben or call him - 646-319-2444.
