We did our Living room and Dining room window treatments through Zarin Fabrics and they are not just beautuful, the quality of how they're made is superb. Zarin has a vast and wonderful selection of fabrics and working with Judy was equally as wonderful. She has a great eye, is very professional and we were on the same page from day one. Ritchie, who measures and installs is equally talented, professional and very pleasant. the difference that our window treatments makes is remarkable and really completes and warms up our rooms. I highly recommend Zarin. Brina W.

I was walking down the street, so I decided to pop in, and I was extremely impressed with their selection of upholstery fabric!

Love this place! Haven't found a better spot for upholstery fabric anywhere in the city. Too many other places are completely disorganized, yet Zarin is a breath of fresh air. Rows and rows of fabrics arranged by color family for easy viewing. Each rack is numbered - just jot down the rack number and the row from the top and they fantastic staff will be happy to cut you samples to take home. Best of all, many of the fabrics are around $35 a yard, which is on the very affordable end for good upholstery fabric. I'm going to sew my own bench cushions, but Zarin will do custom work for you, if you're into that too! All around great place, and recommended.

My first visit here. I came in the late afternoon, thinking I only had 15 minutes to shop. Natee asked me what I needed. First, I had a dead phone and could I charge it up? Sure, and he plugged my phone into someone else's charger cord set up on a side table. Terrific! Second, I described the fabric color and look that I wanted and he FOUND THE EXACT THING I NEEDED. For good measure, I looked around a bit more and also shopped for a couple other projects and asked for samples for all of those. These fabrics are beautiful and quality and really well priced! Natee told me to take a photo of the identifying tags on each bolt, so I would be able to order over the phone when I finally decided. I was grateful for his generosity and his assistance. Wish all retail experiences were like this!

Zarin reupholstered an old rocking chair we'd had in our family for generations, which was badly in need of repair. Natee was extremely helpful and friendly. They have a huge selection of fabrics. And they were far more reasonable than other reupholsters we checked in the city -- a win, win, win all around. The rocking chair turned out better than I ever expected (see photos) and is ready to rock a new generation of grandchildren. Highly recommended.

Then don't even get me started on all the thread, buttons, and home decor! It's enough to make your head spin!! Everything is incredibly organized by section, textures and style of patterns or solids! I was thoroughly impressed and yet so overwhelmed. I spent 45 minutes, just looking at every fabric and touching everything in sight that I couldn't buy a single yard of anything!! There's a cutting station in a couple of different spot spots as well as stairs and an elevator in case you need to maneuver around, but goodness! I could live here and never get tired!! Now that I think about it, I never looked at the prices but one of the fabrics was $24 a yard. It was a soft jersey fabric, so I'm sure it was more expensive. I should've looked up more prices, but honestly, I was just so overwhelmed, and I wanted to walk through each aisle away! There were a number of employees on each floor, helping other people and restocking other fabrics. I didn't want to bother with asking any questions because I was so enchanted with the fabric store itself! I'm so happy to have graced mood fabrics presence in New York, especially since all the fabrics have gone out of business over here on the West Coast in California! I honestly cannot wait to go back and actually buy some fabric! They've…read morealways been one of the larger stores with a very broad assortment of sewing and design accessories--everything from hundreds of ribbons (may thousands), trims, decals, rhinestones, fabrics, supportive inner garment materials, buttons, hair/costume jewelry components, the list goes on. Agree with some other reviews in that it's one of the pricier stores though you pay for the wide variety--hard to beat their selection. The course of time hasn't been kind to local production. Back in the 1820s up until the early 1980s, when mass garment production stateside was booming in NYC, the garment district employed up to 46% of the city's industrial workforce. There was a need to design and purchase materials nearby, and the majority of Manhattan's midtown west side was dedicated to factories and design studios. Fast fwd to now, that statistic is much different and given the availability of online and global sources, not everyone needs to go into a physical store to purchase their needs. While many products have long moved to overseas sourcing, for anyone who's endeavored DIY arts and crafts, or even made any functional product by hand, it's much different seeing and feeling a material in person than on a screen. That's where in this past century, stores like M&J played a vital role in the fabric of the garment district. They are also a valuable resource to the numerous design students at FIT, Parsons, etc. During past decade many a longtime stalwart trim store have disappeared from the neighborhood and M&J is the latest casualty. If you are interested in sewing or design notions, now's your chance to pick up items at their going-out-of-business sale.

I was making pants for the first time and they were different colors, so the materials had to work well together as far as weight and appearance. They have various types of machines thta you cna come in to try out and see what might work for you. The prices of their fabrics are reasonable. I did purchase some shears that I was able to find for less money elsewhere, and I was able to return them in exchange for store credit. This policy did not bother me because I plan to return for more fabric, as our cosplay is quickly becoming an annual tradition, but be advised that you will get store credit in lieu of a full refund. Owners, Clarissa and Nadine, are very knowledgeable and a wealth of tips and suggestions. If you're just starting our, they are perfect to answer any questions you may have. Similar to Chester Sewing, Blossom Holness still remains the lone survivor in the world of family-owned fabric stores as I previously described in my Chester Sewing review. Now, with brand new owners, Nadine and her ladies are bringing a new mix to their model. She's included 6? 8? 10? portable sewing machines for sewing classes. What a wonderful idea and addition to their shop to bring the community together. You'll find the silks with silks, cotton with cotton, upholstery-type fabric with like fabric, etc. Except, out of all the colors available, beige was non-existent, so settled for a cotton (not the feel I was going for).
