I just moved fo Austin and found Tiny Pies and have been wanting to try it. Yesterday I was close so I decided to drop in and grab a few things. I got an Apple Bourbon Crumble and Pumpkin Chai pie for me and a Texas 2 Step to bring to my boyfriend. The mini pies are $4.50 each. I had a bite of each and was really blown away. I was thinking these small pies would be all crust (I loooove Crust) and no filling. Well these lil babies are loaded with filling. For me it was 4 bites, maybe it would be 2 for others. I stop here for a whole box of pies every time I visit Austin. My favorite is probably the coconut cream or any of the berry pies. We call ahead on our way so that everything will be ready when we get there and to check what's on the menu for the day. That way, we don't end up driving all the way there from Dallas and have them run out before we arrive. There are only a few places we have to eat on our trip and this is one of them. I really wish they were closer to Dallas so I could eat them all of the time, but maybe it's best that they aren't for my waistline. The size is perfect, the filling and crust are delicious. I have now tried Tiny Pies twice and been disappointed both times. The stuffing to dough ratio is too skewed to the latter and our pies tasted dry. My husband got a savory chicken pot pie and that was one of the better items. I got the Texas Pete and my mom tried the Key Lime. More of like a scoop-able fudge than a mousse, the cup do creme tasted like bitter sweet chocolate with emphasis on the bitter. Something someone who doesn't like sweet desserts should try. I essentially paid $16 for a slice of pie, with everything combined together. I get these aesthetic-ly pleasing tiny pies are a treat. You can find the cutest tiny pies right here in this little shop. Just don't come on Sunday because they're closed! When you do make it out, they have so many flavors for you to choose from. They bring out the order, boxed. They wear masks and gloves. Once you arrive, call and they place the order on a table outside the door for you to get after they re-enter the blg. Giving tiny pies a 3 star because i feel like it is very overhyped for what it is. I've been twice and i haven't been back for awhile. I've tried their chocolate cream, coconut cream, apple, and pumpkin. Taste: taste is pretty good, tiny pies does a good pie crust and their apple pie one was my favorite. The ratio was close to perfect but not quite there. There is a larger amount of pie to filling ratio since the pie is so small. The taste of the pie is by no means out of this world, i suggest going to either pieous or quacks for a really nice pie crust. Negatives: PRICING. Pies are 4.5 a piece, which is ridiculous. Many people i spoke to haven't gone back solely because of how pricey it was. Since they're so tiny youre tempted to buy at least 4 but then you're set back 18 dollars. I would probably just buy a full pie elsewhere. Overall, it's great for a first time visit to say you've been but in the long run you're probably going to be buying your pie elsewhere for cheaper. Keep in mind Im also bias because i bake pies at home a lot so i tend to just bake a huge apple pie and eat it. read more
