I absolutely love this place. The staff are always so friendly and so fantastic with my son. They absolutely adore him. They have even been so kind to give him a free dessert! They have regular seating and some traditional seating along the front windows. This place is never fully packed. But the few good foodies that know about this place, seem to know the right place. We arrived early, just before 1130 am. One other couple was there. The waitress was just unhappy. We asked for straws for water; we got a VERY negative look. She finally brought them, with no look at any of us or conversation. We asked for sweet & sour, as we ordered rangoons. The Asian lady at the front came over. We were brought over not even a full ounce in a little cup. She walked away, so we caught the waitress and asked her to bring another little cup. The Asian lady came over and pointed at the cup we had and told us that we had our sweet & sour. I said it's pretty small; we'd like one more at the table. BIG, DISGUSTED SIGH. She brought over another partial tiny cup. She asked if with the extra straws and sweet & sour, if we got all that we wanted now, in a very negative, catty voice. She went back to the front desk, we gathered up our stuff; she saw us grab the check. She ignored that we were going to pay and went to the back room. So, we stood there and when she came back out she put on a happy voice and fake smile. We'd already agreed that there would be no tip; they need to at least ACT kind and professional to get business and tips. 3 out of the 4 of us thought the sweet and sour tasted like ketchup and was very salty. The 4th person took 2 bites out of the empress chicken and boxed it up, hoping that someone at home would eat it; he didn't like it at all. Sigh. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. We won't go back. Ting's is the only place for Chinese food is the CR/Marion area. I've tried about all the rest, they are all garbage! Ting's arrived fresh and hot. I ordered through GrubHub she unfortunately did not receive the Beef Lol Mein I ordered which is the only reason I couldn't give 5 stars. The Sesame Chicken is delicious. The sauce is savory and smooth. I do kinda wish they served it with some nice stalks of broccoli though...and maybe a bit more white rice to go with the massive serving of entree! Every year we come back to Cedar Rapids for Christmas and this is a must stop restaurant. In the seven days that we are here we always eat it at least twice. The crab Rangoon are excellent the General Tsos chicken is great. The food is always fresh. If you go in the restaurant the service is usually fast even if they are really busy. It is your typical restaurant as far as the ambiance is concerned, it is clean and neat. A great stop if you are looking for fast, fresh, fantastic Chinese food in the Cedar Rapids area! read more

We got egg rolls which were more like spring rolls , crab Rangoon , Mongolian beef (which my spouse said was the best ever that he had ) , sweet and sour chicken, and mei fun. Mei fun isn't described well on the menu. What is it? It's rice noodles with brown sauce, crisp cooked onions , cabbage , carrots , and a meat of your choice. I love it but I found theirs with hardly any meat and veggies. So I'd give the flavor 5 but the over all 4 because it was mainly seasoned noodles. read more

first tried ordering online for PICK UP, every time when I went to check out it added a 10% tip, what? I am picking it up, I tried everything, so I went to the establishment, and stated that I had trouble, they suggested everything I tried doing in the first place, they did not seem too concerned, so you may want to double check your check out bill. When I arrived at the restaurant I asked for a menu, the one they handed me was their dinner table menu, and when I opened it there was food crusted to the plastic inside. OMG! This was the WORST Chinese place that I have ever been to! I must be spoiled from all that amazing San Francisco Chinese Cuisine that I had the opportunity to experience and taste!' The 2-stars I gave is for the friendly and efficient service we received while waiting for our food to be served. Otherwise, the egg rolls were overly greasy and not crunchy at all. My Szechuan Beef was too sweet, not spicy at all! I am not sure what sauce they used, but it was nothing like any Szechuan sauce I ever tasted! My friend's daughter, who I was having dinner with, got the Sweet & Sour Chicken. She actual liked her food, but then her response to me was, "Don't forget! We are in Iowa!" Yes, how could I forget? We wanted to support local and thought we'd give them a chance. Not a great experience. We went online for the carry out menu we called and placed our order. It was pleasantly ready very quickly but when we were ready to pay the bill was considerably higher than their prices online. We were told that they have a new menu, we asked for them to honor their online prices they would not. With that aside the portions were large, hot and fresh. Stopped here for lunch. The server was pleasant. The atmosphere was typical for a small family owned restaurant and it was clean. The food was very disappointing. Raw veggies and tasteless meat/tofu in entrees. Heavy on just salt and garlic sauce over everything. Spring rolls were cold and uncooked in the center. Rangoons had a little blob of cream cheese filling rolling around in a papery shell. Some of the worst Chinese food we have ever had Im sorry to say, and we've traveled a lot. The real deal when it comes to Chinese/Asian cuisine! My husband and I ordered take out - he the sesame chicken and I the snow pea chicken. He loved the sesame chicken and said it was even better than the local grocery store. I tried something new from what I usually get and went with the snow pea chicken which was AMAZING! Thickly sliced chicken with many snow peas, carrots, and bamboo served in a white gravy-like sauce. I also loved the rice - usually rice from other places is dry or too sticky...this was perfect! I have been eating at tings for 8 years now and have met many people here over lunch and I am never let down. Best crab meat rangoons in town! And the batter is always crispy! That's what I feel sets this place apart from the competition. It takes awhile to find your favorite dish but when you do you'll know it and will never go anywhere else for your Chinese fix. My personal favorite is the sesame chicken. Service has always been quick even during the busy hours. And I feel it's worth the wait over the lunch hour for the value. $6 for a crab rangoon, egg roll, hot and sour/egg drop soup, entree and fried rice. Take out is always a great option to. I live in the neighborhood and have ordered takeout for two multiple times. The food here is tasty and of a good quality. However, every time we order we are nickel-and-dimed for "sauce on the side" ($2), or "steamed instead of fried" vegetables ($2). Prices are already expensive and I'm floored that takeout for 2 always comes to around $50 after tip. We have been double-charged for appetizers twice. When I bring this up to the hostess, she is always surly. Instead of apologizing and refunding my money she puts a credit on my account for next time (which they never seem to keep track of).
