We had take out last night from China King and I HOPE my review is an anomaly. We chose them because they had the Sesame Beef my son wanted, as there was another recommendation that did not. I wasn't terribly hungry so chose the PoPo Platter. the Sesame Beef was fine. The PoPo Platter not so much. the battered shrimp were tasteless, the other fried selections overcooked and the skewers almost too dry to eat. The egg rolls had little flavor to them which I was very disappointed in. Overall, for dinner for two at $40, it was a bust. On top of that, today I have a miserable tummy even after throwing up and having the trots all day. CK won't be a repeater for us!! read more

We have been coming to this China King Restaurant for 10+ years. We have never been disappointed. The Vegetable Chow Mein is fresh and tasty along with several other items. They use a variety of vegetables and do NOT stretch the item ordered with "onions and celery" as some restaurants do. Very personable and good food too! read more

Best Chinese restaurant in Eastern Iowa. The Rangoons are excellent. I order the sesame chicken with fried rice. Wife gets sweet and sour with steamed rice. We have both loved our food over the years that we've eaten here and had very few of any complaints. read more

A family owned and run restaurant that works very hard to give you the best value and service you can possibly get for under $8! Mom runs the counter while dad does the cooking. She always gives you a friendly greeting coming and going. The food on the lunch buffet is made in small portions so they can keep it fresh. I wanted to support local. Construction can't be good for business. I ordered dinner for 1. I was told the total. I was handed the receipt to sign. I signed it and left. (I did not take my copy) When I checked the bank, they had charged me more than DOUBLE for my meal. I called and basically got a 'too bad'. Lesson learned. Check your receipt. Staff is very friendly. If you're a regular they get to know you very well. Menu has a large selection of food options and even show which meals are spicy (they also have a separate section of the menu to show their healthier meals). Has cheap prices (which is common for most Chinese restaurants imo). The reason I gave this restaurant 4/5 stars is because of the condition of the restaurant interior. This place is what it is, in that it is a strip mall chinese food buffet sort of place. Well, the buffet is only at lunch, but, let me tell you, it is a hot deal. Anyway, taht being said, it is what it is and what it is is pretty awesome. Everyone is nice. The food is exactly what you expect AND delicious. If you're expecting it to be bad, then it's the exact opposite of what you expect, quit being so negative. To be fair, we did not eat here. This is a review of the service. I heard such great reviews from Yelpers, thought I would try the place out. We went at lunch time and the place was full. We waited . . . and waited . . . and waited. We saw one Asian lady busily doing "something". She gave us eye contact but did not show us a table or assist us in any way. Perhaps because we are Asian, she thought we were the "help". I have no idea but I do know terrible service when I experience it. We left after idiotically waiting for 15 minutes by the door. It did the trick for a cheap Chinese/American buffet lunch. I found no flaws at lunch, dinner however is over priced for what you get.

Where do I start. My family has not been to another Chinese restaurant since we found "Jenny's" 4 years ago. Can't beat the lunch buffett. Also try the Chicken Rice and Chicken Noodle soup. If you like Chinese you'll love China King!!! It's a family run small buffet. It's only around 5.00 for the all you can eat buffet. It's small, but they do have a decent variety and the food is always hot and fresh. The workers are friendly especially the main girl I think she goes by Jenny. You won't be sorry if you stop here! Chinese Take Out admittedly has a low hurdle for stars, the expectations are never really very high. That said, we are new in town and checking out the local Chinese Take Out in order to find the best. This was our first and closest option . Ordered Chicken and Broccoli. Got Chicken. Broccoli. That's it. Not really stir fried, more steamed. No other ingredients. Usually includes onion, bamboo shoots, each chinese place is different. Not this place. Chicken. Broccoli. Ordered the Singapore Mai Fun. Had the little chili pepper on the menu indicating that its "hot". That's the way I like it. Got Rice Noodles and (literally) 4 baby shrimps and a couple of bits of chicken. No egg, no curry, no onion, no other veggies at all, really pretty much just rice noodles. But the real insult was NO SINGAPORE. No curry, no red pepper, no seasoning of ANY KIND! and for that, there is an upcharge over the "regular" Mai Fun. The kid working the counter (literally was probably 13) was super nice. Probably his Mom was working the wok and seemed totally worn out. I feel sad writing a bad review for hard a hard working family. I started out working for my family when I was 13 too. What a pleasant surprise. Most Chinese buffets offer food that is guaranteed to clean out your digestive tract quickly. China King is one of those exceptions. This family run business knows how to prepare food. Although they obviously use the same food suppliers as other midwestern Chinese buffets, they seem to know how to take that extra step to prepare food well and add ingredients that make even ordinary Asian food seem fresh and tasty. China King is a perfect example of how the cook and staff supervisor make a big difference in how well a restaurant prepares food. The buffet is small. This is a big plus because it means that the food stuffs are easier to maintain and do not sit on the steam table very long. It is a small mall storefront with limited seating. No decoration to speak of and table ware is plastic plates and paper napkins. In other words, no real Chinese restaurant ambience. But what it lacks in looks is made up by pretty good food, which may not be quite top restaurant quality, but makes up for it by fast service, low prices, and hot food. China King is ideal for take-out patrons. I only wish I lived closer to the restaurant. read more

My go to Chinese food place. It is a family run business so you will be helped by the son, who is always friendly. My order is perfect every time and it's made fresh. I will never need to go anywhere else, great food, great people. I would highly recommend. I haven't tried the buffet, only takeout, but I am sure that is great as well if you are more into dining in the restaurant. read more
