Such a nostalgic place for me. This restaurant has been in business for over 40 years and is still incredible after all the years. Came here for lunch in between errands. This is a small restaurant in a shopping plaza. A few tables inside or you can order take out. They also have offerings for delivery. The crab rangoons are the best in town! My husband and I are new to the area and this was the first Chinese restaurant that we tried because it is close to our house. We opted for carryout and our order was ready in about 10 minutes, which was great! We are not disappointed on the serving sizes necessarily, but the taste was extremely offputting. We tried a variety of different things: Crab Rangoon: this did not have any sweetness to it at all, nor any flavor of crab. The final product was dry and flavorless. Potstickers: again, this product was very dry and hard with very little flavor. The sauce that came with it had a very strong vinegar taste. Not enjoyable. Eggroll: I thought for the price of one egg roll. It was rather small. I could not describe any of the food items inside of it. I did enjoy the wrapper quite a lot though. The sweet-and-sour sauce was definitely not a typical sweet-and-sour flavor. Chicken Ramen: I was extremely excited to try this because I had never seen it on a menu before. It basically tasted like very starchy noodles with random off the bone chicken pieces. I really wanted to like this. Chicken fried rice: this was extremely similar to the above item. Tasteless rice with random pieces of chicken. There was no seasoning that I could tell. Orange Chicken: the chicken in this meal was extremely dry, chewy, and hard. There may have been a few nibbles of chicken that was pleasant to eat. I cannot describe the sauce at all, it was not like any other orange chicken sauce I have encountered. Every single time I am back in CR I have to stop at Eggroll House. I've never written a Yelp review before, but I am so passionate about my love for this place that I felt I needed to. We moved here not long ago. We have yet to find good Chinese food and good Mexican. So we tried the Egg Roll House. On a scale of 1 to 10, This restaurant gets a 2.5. Low grade food as far as flavor and quality. Dirty dining room that hasn't been cleaned in a long time. Look near their fake plants and dirty benches, floors. If that is the front of the restaurant that dirty image the cooking area. Cleanliness is next to Godliness and this place is hell. Nasty! Food was surprising. The reviews are a 4!? Cedar Rapids you don't know food! We ordered two dinners and were surprised How very little they care in preparing food. No pride in their product. I got Mongolian Beef. It was mainly onion with very little green onion. The sauce was like water the whole thing drowning in lousy try for a Chinese sauce. I can imagine they just have a big pan of the watery brown liquid they drench beef meals in. Disappointing at best. My wife had shrimp and Snow pea. The shrimp were over done and tasted like old seafood. A brown sauce unlike most which has a nice clear sauce. Not Good! This place makes me wonder what is wrong with people. But if you don't know good restaurants you just don't know, and people eat what ever is in front of them. But, it's somebody's favorite place... lol. I have been to this location several times and have never had a bad meal. The service is quick and the food is hot. You can ask to have them give any dis a little kick or they have hot sauce on the tables. The place is always clean and though I never see a big crowd I have never seen the place empty either. I've had kung pao chicken, beef and broccoli, hot braised chicken, hot braised chicken wings and egg rolls on several different occasions. As I understand it, this is a Korean owned restaurant; not that it matters or that I care -- but that may influence the style of Chinese food that is prepared. I have eaten at Chinese places all over the country and this is the only one that makes Mongolian beef and szechuan shrimp the way that I like! Most Chinese restaurants I've been to all have the same flavor for everything as of it all comes from one place. The owner at this location is so nice and the people complaining that it costs $40 to feed a family of 4 are insane, where do you get meals cheaper than that? I never pay less than $100 when we all go out to eat so I'd absolutely love a bill that was only $40! I get food to go from here every time I go through Cedar Rapids. The first time I ever ate here was in 1999 and I will continue to go as long as they are open. read more

The Kung Pao chicken was pretty good, had a nice sauce different from other styles I have had. More of a reddish sauce with some good spice too it, I liked it and would try it again. The egg rolls are good of coarse as most places that feature egg roll in their name are, at least from my experience. The egg drop soup wasn't my fav. The broth was a lil bland and they did have crab, mushroom, and shrimp in it as well. Not my cup of tea, but if you want more of a loaded soup then this would be for you. If I could leave a (-) star rating I would! We decided to try a new Chinese food restaurant, and it was the biggest let down. We dropped a whopping $60 on a dinner for 3, lo mien, and egg drop soup to be delivered. The soup was inedible and gelatinous. The Broccoli Beef was disgusting, the empress chicken was questionable and 75% sauce, the lo mien was "meh", and the orange chicken left us unimpressed. Not one person in my family of four ate more than a 1/4 of their plate, the only thing that wasn't disgusting was the rice. We LITERALLY bagged up our $60 dinner and tossed it in the garbage, which is like lighting $60 on fire- such a waste. I got the orange chicken dish. Now, I'm not the best at cooking Chinese food, but I know when you make food, it's good to not have one thing be your only flavor. The orange chicken I got was bland and largely tasteless, with the exception of the overwhelming feeling like I was eating a hybrid between meat and a spoiled orange. I realize this is orange chicken and the main flavor will be the orange (and it should be!)--but I expect more than just an orange taste. And judging by the sesame chicken my significant other had, this isn't just a one-dish fail. The white rice was good, but that's like being proud of McDonald's for making edible french fries--you're making Chinese food, you better know how to make white rice or there's a problem. Especially when all you really have to do is stick rice and water in a rice cooker. So maybe it's a combination of all three; I'm unlucky because I'm so picky that I can't handle one-flavored foods. First time I've eaten at this location. Egg Roll House started about 25 years ago selling egg rolls literally in a house by the Hy-Vee in the hood. They have long since evolved into a strip mall Chinese fast food restaurant. Most of their sales are delivery or carryout although you can order at the counter and eat in. There must be a book out there with business instructions for fast food Chinese, cuz it's all the same. The egg rolls are about the only thing that sets them apart anymore. A good lunch choice. The lunch special is any entree, fried rice, one egg roll and one crab meat Rangoon for $5.99. This was the most disgusting Chinese food I have ever eaten! I love Asian foods. I ordered up crab rangoon, pot stickers, egg rolls, Mongolian beef, kung bao chicken, orange chicken and sweet n sour chicken for the family. The reason I enjoy Chinese food so much is that it is generally prepared with fresh vegetables and protiens. This food was so greasy and over cooked it was not edible. I know I had ordered some fried items but they were swimming in oil. The wax bags they were served in were dripping. Had to blot before tasting. One bite then into the trash. They even fried the pot stickers. Normally these are seared in a pot that they stick to(thus the name) then steamed. Even the Mongolian beef and kung bao had a layer of grease on top of the container. I rinsed the oil off in a collander and tried to make the most of the $ spent.
