This place was awesome. We really enjoyed the food it all had great Asian taste to it. The staff were all very friendly they did an awesome job keeping the buffet full of food. My wife and daughter are Asian, so they know good Chinese food that tastes great. The prices were really reasonable as well. We or sure make the drive from Iowa City to eat here again. read more

I was in the mood for Chinese food when I saw this place. Its close to Halloween, so most of the diners came dressed as empty seats. 5:30 on a Friday night, so all 6 people sat fairly close to one another. I think there were more staff than customers. The food? It looked pretty tasty. I took a selection of items from all over the buffet. Universally luke warm to cold, tasteless food abound. The one good thing? The egg drop soup. The only reason I'm even giving them 3 stars is because it was only $8.50... The first thing that should have tipped me off was I passed right by the restaurant because the sign was half-lit. I should've kept driving, but I was determined to try something new. That was my first mistake. Upon entering the establishment, the previous reviews were as accurate as my ex's pregnancy test. This was a very sub par buffet experience. When we arrived at 7pm everything had been sitting there, for well over an hour. We had our drinks delivered by their young children ages 10 and under (no they weren't doin homework, but watching YouTube videos). Now the food was pretty decent. Pineapple chicken, sweet and sour chick, vegetable lo mein, house doughnuts, crab rangoons were all delicious, when fresh. Very nice owners made them quickly and fresh when asked. The dessert table, however... I'll let you find that out for yourself. If after reading this review and you still have a desire to drive to the other side of Marion and want to give the Pyrite Palace a try. Ask for fresh food, get your pepto before, and call into work tomorrow. You'll be leaving full but your stomach will be empty tonight. read more

tonight was my families first and last time visiting this place. Way overpriced for the small selection of old ass food you get to choose from. Dishes and silverware were dirty. Bathrooms were so disgusting and I know there is no way this place can be up to code so I will be also reporting them to the health dept and bbb. So so gross read more

Ok I can for sure say I've done the most Disgusting thing I can do and that is eat at this golden palace buffet. This place is by far the worst! Their buffet was low on all items and the food taste like seasonless trash. It was over cooked and some even old. I would not recommend this place to anyone not even as a resort to feel you house pet! The service wasn't horrible but the bathroom and environment was awful and unacceptable. I am a large guy and left this place to go get food! The price was 20 bucks for me and the mrs. I was extremely happy when I left and it was because I left! Golden Palace Buffet - Two isles of buffet. One hot and one cold - Cantonese Near Me - Marion, Iowa

Our go to Chinese restaurant. They are good, they DELIVER (which is originally why they became our go to, our preferred place stopped delivering), they usually get your order to you in half hr sometimes less, the food is good. My kids like the sesame chicken, teriyaki chicken which they call red chicken on a stick and the chick lo-mein, Hubby and I like chicken with garlic sauce and the rangoons are especially good and shrimp fried rice. So on average 5 of us can eat for $40. We've ate the buffet and it was good but depending on when you got there as sometimes it's not fully stocked. The desserts and salad part is rather lacking. We stick to delivery and we're never let down that way. They also have lunch specials you can order ahead and pick up. Very reasonable prices, hard to understand sometimes but very nice and good food. read more

There was human feces on the toilet, and when I told the lady she came and wiped it with a dry paper towel and walked out the washroom and continued restocking the buffet! Hate to say it, but this is one of the worse buffets i have ever been to. The food was pretty much cold, been sitting around for a bit, and the only thing eatable was the egg rolls and one other item they brought out that was just made. The salad was just wilted lettuce, no onions, mushrooms, or anything else, The sweet n sour soup was just awful, not even spicy, and the rice was cold. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, and if you like a good buffet, go to the Hibachi Grill Buffet in Des Moines. The best buffet to eat at all week long. read more

Best priced Chinese buffet with no frill. Rangoons here are great. Had some issues with freshness on the dessert cakes, but by the time you get to dessert, you're full anyway. I do not recommend the egg rolls, they have a different aftertaste than most places. Their pork skewers are really good, as are their fried chicken wings and noodles. The seafood casserole always grossed me out, but the chicken with Broccoli always made up for that. Egg drop soup is great here too. Overall great for the price. If you live in the area, and don't care to go for a drive, it beats fast food. (barely) I've eaten there two or three times over the last few years. Each time the buffet was low or out of things, what was there sat way too long, and little to no service at all. Fantastic place! The owners are so sweet and sometimes you'll see their kid doing homework at one of the tables. I love this place, get the orange tofu (really, you have to tell them to do the orange chicken, but instead of chicken you want tofu). Great family restaurant for Chinese. Usually do pickup, tho the buffet is well done as well. Nice staff and prompt seating. Been going here since it first opened. Buffet selection is slightly small tho with the space they have its understandable. Being small tho doesn't mean you don't get your money's worth tho. Never walked away hungry. read more

I have visited this restaurant several times for lunch in the past year. I've found I like the stuffed mushrooms, crab rangoon, chicken on a stick, soup, pot stickers when fresh. When they run out they do not refill the favorites so you end up waiting for refills that never occur. Other less popular items are refilled. I've tried the other dishes & simply don't like the taste so I stick to my favs. I find it rude to refill the less popular dishes on the buffet. Other patrons never realize the best items are missing. I need to find a place that never runs out of my favorites on the buffet. read more

I have eaten here before today and there is always a good amount of food on the buffet. The food is really hit and miss on flavor. The people who work here are very rude. When we were here the workers never came to get the plates off the table and they never came around to do fill drinks. When I was full I stopped getting a plate and waited for my guest to finish eating. The worker a short haired lady was very rude and was telling me I was wasteful. The food is bland and has a lot of work that needs done. When I was walking out the short haired lady was giving me a dirty look and was mumbling something. WOULD NOT RECOMEND and wont be going back there anytime soon. read more

Golden Palace is a nice little Chinese place for people who want a casual dinner buffet. $9 for a buffet is outstanding in terms of price. The decor is a little old, but the staff is seen working very hard to give you good service. Definitely a reliable little buffet if you love Chinese. read more

If I could do 0 stars, I would. A coworker and I went here for lunch one day and experienced some of the rudest wait staff and worst food ever. When we got our plates from the buffet, everything was cold, even though the steam tables were on. When I brought it to their attention, she went to turn up the steam table, then said she would put my plate in the microwave to heat it up. No!! Serving food that has not been properly cooked or heated is absolutely disgusting. When I went to the front counter to tell her I was not paying for the food, she argued and said I wasted food and I must pay. Arguing back and forth for 5 minutes, I mentioned that I would be contacting the health department about their serious health violations, her mood changed and said that I must get out now. I ended up giving a few dollars for the drinks just so i didn't feel like I was stealing I noticed there was raw chicken and beef sitting next to vegetables not being properly stored and sat there for at least 15-20 minutes while we were there. I recently went to the Golden Palace Chinese Buffet in Marion. We got a plate of food and took a couple bites and every single thing was extremely cold. We told the owner all the food was cold and she didn't care. She said the temp was at the same setting she always puts it at. I told her to try her own food and tell me it's not cold and she refused. She wouldn't say sorry or anything so we just decided to leave and go eat somewhere else. As we proceded to walk out the door she started screaming she will call the cops on us if we don't pay. My husband gave in and paid so we wouldn't cause trouble but I don't think it's fair that we paid for a couple bites of cold horrible food. She never once said sorry, she was just so worried about getting her money. I will never go back there again and I am telling everyone to never go there. Their food is bad, their management is bad, and I hope they go out of business soon. read more
