I come in and immediately felt very welcomed. I had no issue with the service I received. I ordered the Cross Roads omelette. It was very tasty and more than enough to fill me up. I have since returned several times and have tried many different dishes. I just can't get enough of the friendly staff. Even when they are busy I feel I get timely service and great quality food. I can't name only one dish that I enjoy the most. For sure the Burmese Curry Chicken and Laab is my top favorites. They will prepare your dishes to the spice level you like. I've heard people order "No Mercy"as a spice level. Not sure if I can handle that level of spice . The variety of food can satisfy all my cravings from breakfast, lunch and dinner. read more

Based on the positive reviews and a few friends' recommendations, we ventured out to Cross Roads Bistro on a whim one rainy night and weren't at all impressed. The tiny parking lot was packed. Upon entering the restaurant, about half the tables were occupied while the rest were piled high with dirty dishes and clutter. The number of patrons dropped substantially while we were here, the dishes did not. There appeared to be two servers on shift. Ours was a total trip, y'all. Ordering was chaotic and confusing because she clearly was not familiar with the admittedly expansive menu, but on top of that she was spouting off total nonsense - our friend asked for his burger medium and she told him they only come in one size (...?!?) Skipping ahead to food actually coming to the table, it took 4 tries to actually get everything out correctly. I was served something I did not order and honestly thought she misunderstood me somehow, then she swapped it out with what I did order and served the first dish to another table (EEW!) The side orders came much later than the entrees and the condiments took her two tries to get right. We were shocked when she split our check appropriately without being asked. Between the four of us that evening, we ordered from a few parts of the menu to get an idea of what was up. My fiancé was pleased with his fried rice, but I was pretty underwhelmed by their beloved Evil Jungle Prince curry. It had no flavor and sat on an overwhelming portion of cabbage. The American food was totally frozen/premade that they heated up - bets on Bubba burgers. The table consensus was meh. Pricing is affordable for average portions. Everything was edible, but not particularly enjoyable. One of our friends had been here before and I don't think it measured up to his memories either. He did mention his previous visits were for breakfast, maybe that makes a difference. We might come back to try that, but it won't be for a while. read more

Cross Roads Bistro is not your typical Asian restaurant, they have one of the biggest menus I have seen including an entire western foods menu. I had a tough time choosing what to get but settled on the massaman steak and pot stickers while my best friend got the chicken and eggplant and Kani salad. We both asked for extra spicy and were sadly disappointed when neither of our entrees even struck us as mildly spicy, but we do in fairness have pretty high spice tolerance. The pot stickers tasted pretty similar to what you might expect from frozen and thrown in oil dumplings and the Kani salad was also kind of disappointing and soggy. The entrees despite being sadly mild both provided excellent flavors and were very decently proportioned. I'd definitely recommend if you come here for the first time you try the chicken egg plant because it definitely was the highlight of the meal. We will definitely return and try more of the expansive menu and just explain next time that when we say extra spicy we mean, "would put most people on the floor" read more

I ordered some Thai food for takeout today and it was DELICIOUS! I'm glad they still make their Asian food from Thai Moon. It's seriously the best in Cedar Rapids! It's a rare gem to find a place that specializes in American AND Thai food. There's always a dish for someone here. My "go-to" order is always Evil Jungle Prince with chicken. The chicken with the amazing curry sauce and shredded cabbage is heaven. I haven't had it in over a year because I was gone and it's still amazing! We really liked Thai Moon and were looking forward to a Cross Roads Bistro. Greatly disappointed. First the atmosphere was loud, the table tops full of clutter and you couldn't read the specials board. They can't control the customers; however the people next to us were parents who were having trouble parenting their two children and another table kept calling for waitress by yelling their names. Second, we received our meals at random times. At least 15 minutes between two people being served and the third getting his meal. By the time he was served I had already sent my food back because of a very long hair. Third, no apology for serving hairy food. All in all the wait staff was not friendly and service was poor. Had never been to Cross Roads before. I had found it online and it seemed cool (at least to me) to showcase Thai and Chinese cuisine at what otherwise appears to be a typical American diner. I liked the landscaping out front, it was very warm and welcoming and the inside was the same way. Quaint, homey, and very comfortable. It is just a place that you feel comfortable being at, which is always good for a diner like this. There was four of us total, and I was very impressed with the menu. Again, the variety is a great selling point and it isn't so much that becomes overwhelming. They have mostly anything that would fit your taste on a particular day -- really fabulous. Our table got a sweet and sour stir fry with shrimp, a sesame chicken dish, an omelette, and a southwestern shipwreck. I won't speak too much for the other at my table, but there were no complaints with the food at all. From my perspective, the food was EXCELLENT. I had the shipwreck and ordered a pancake ala carte. The pancake was absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly, fluffy.. They add a touch of cinnamon which really warms up the pancake flavor-wise. And I realize shipwrecks aren't awfully complicated to execute... but again. PERFECT. I could actually taste individual ingredients which were all marvelous. Honestly.. Cross Roads Bistro had a chance at being my favorite diner in the corridor. Except the service was unacceptable. I will try to make this short and sweet because it annoys me to even think about. The waitress had brought us our checks. Came back to check on them to see if we were ready to pay maybe 2 minutes later. Half the table was clearly not ready to pay as the tickets hadn't moved and there was no money / cards with the tickets. The waitress asked anyway if the tickets were ready to be paid. Guest A in my group said that he was still waiting for more tea (as his glass had been empty for over 15 minutes by this point). The waitress obviously took extreme offense to this and became very rude and very snippy.. In a very sarcastic / rude / and almost put-out tone, she proceeded to say that he never asked for more tea and that's why the glass was empty.After a second of awkward silence, she asked Guest A if he would like more tea (which I think should have been obvious). Guest A replied, " Sure! " and the waitress retorted, "See, that wasn't very hard, was it?" Wow... Well, Guest A didn't really catch / hear this comment in it's entirety but he knew she had said something unflattering. So after she walked away to get tea, he asked the table what she said. He almost couldn't believe it.. So much so that when she came back, he asked her what she said. She proceeded to lie and pretend as if she never said anything. She never returned to the table. The other guests (one of which is over the age of 90) were then required to get up and seek out the waitress to actually pay for their meals. Look.. I know customers aren't always pleasant. I know bad days happen. But I used to be a waiter and I couldn't get away with talking to CUSTOMERS like that under any circumstances. Heck, I wouldn't even think about. Before that incident, I was REALLY excited about this location and the food they offered. I was ready to come back fairly frequently? Now? I don't really want to go back at all. What a shame. ------- EDIT: I swear, I did this before. The questionable waitress seems to be gone and all of the great things I said about the food still hold true after many visits. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food here. Coming from CA, I was worried about trying out Asian food in the Midwest, especially a place that has so many different cuisines. Are they a jack-of-all-cuisines or someone who tries too hard in all only to fail at all? I ordered the green Thai curry and substituted the zucchini with Japanese eggplant. Authentic? Perhaps 80%. Delicious? Yes. The rice could have tasted more fresh and there could have been more of the curry, but otherwise I was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend this place as long as you go in without high expectations. Just enough expectations to find some good comfy food to fill your hungry stomach. This was our first trip to Cross Roads, specifically to try the Chow Harlock, and we were not disappointed! The Harlock reminded us of that served at the Dragon Restaurant (CR). We also had the Kung Pao chicken, which was very good, and a bowl of hot & sour soup, which was the best I have ever had. Pleasantly surprised, when you go someplace with a very odd menu combination (sushi, Thai, Chinese, American and breakfast) can be daunting and make you question if they can do it all decently. I have been here twice, both times ordering a curry dish and was left full and pleasantly surprised. They do have a nice lunch deal around $8 which is a good amount of food. The noodles were clumped together for my lo main like the pre made noodles had been sitting in a container for long. Hard and stuck together. I told my server I wasn't going to eat it that I ordered cheese not cheese sauce. She said okay and walked away. Then I had to go to the counter and get coffee and salt. The owners are here talking smack about us. My daughter still had a full plate and the server brought us our bill. Guess no dessert for us. The food was so Good! I ordered the Bronco burger and it looked and tasted amazing. The fries were good but nothing special. I also heard 2 other customers while there say that their food was "delcious." I will be going back to try out the Thai food. It all looked so good from what I could see on other people's tables.
