Fairly lackluster Chinese food, but in a pinch it's ok. 3 stars for food, but 4 stars based on excellent service and friendliness.

A9 Chinese Restaurant - Unspicy but delicious Mongolian beef! Super tender and tasty but be sure to tell them if you want it to be spicy!!

We rolled into town at 7:40pm and the restaurant closes at 8pm. We were greeted warmly and we…read moreordered takeout even though the place was quite busy. I would never want to be the reason somebody has to continue serving after closing time! We ordered chicken with mushrooms, Mongolian beef, and fried rice. We paid less than $40! We were told to expect 10-15 minutes wait because everything is made fresh. 12 minutes later our food was ready to go. The restaurant is clean and decorated like any other middle American Chinese restaurant. The ladies restroom was exceptionally clean. Watching the fish in the fish tanks passes the time nicely but I would have appreciated a label saying what kind of fish they are. One tank says "his name is Mushroom" which is very appropriate for the shape of the fish! We had a very short drive to our hotel and the car smelled amazing. The fried rice was perfect, absolutely perfect! It was perfectly cooked, tender but separate grains of buttery well seasoned rice with super sweet peas. Excellent flavor! The chicken with mushrooms was exactly what my Mama was hoping for. The Mongolian beef was very tender and saucy but not at all spicy. This is my only complaint... don't show me a spicy red pepper on the menu and then give me a dish with no spice! Don't get me wrong, the dish is delicious! It's just NOT SPICY! I wanted some heat on my meat!

Very good food! Service is great! Nice clean establishment! I eat there often when I'm in Toledo!read more

Szechuan House - Middle dish is the "102. Baby Cabbage in Chicken Soup"

When asked, "what's in this tofu dish?, he said, "tofu". My wife asked if it had vegetables and he said he didn't know and made some odd comment on how expensive tofu was as though that made a difference in the recipe. At one point he scoffed and said something like, "the picture shows...". We had so-so beef with scallions and ginger and the green beans. Both were just average. We ordered pot stickers before all the questions and they arrived in time for dessert. My wife also has a Diet Coke which the waiter never offered to refill.

They have the cool round tables that can fit up to 10 or more people for Chinese New Year which is awesome. You can absolutely come here for solid American Chinese classics (yes, the orange chicken is good!). But if you're ready to challenge your taste buds a little--or want to impress your Chinese foodie friend--here's what I recommend: 重庆辣子鸡 (Chongqing Spicy Crispy Chicken) Crispy, dry-fried chicken buried in a mountain of dried chilies. Numbing, salty, and packed with wok hei. A must if you're serious about spice. 四川烤鱼 (Whole Fish with Szechuan Sauce) Whole tilapia swimming in bold, peppery sauce. Flaky, flavorful, and unapologetically spicy. This one earns respect. 干煸包菜 (Stir-Fried Cabbage with Hot Pepper) Don't underestimate this dish--it's got deep wok flavor, a little heat, and balances out the heavier mains perfectly. 担担面 (Dan Dan Noodles) Nutty, garlicky, and just the right amount of heat. Toss them well and you'll see why they're a classic. Yes, it's a bit oily--that's part of the deal with traditional Szechuan. But the flavor payoff is so worth it. Portions are generous, and the spice is real (so come prepared). Pro tip: This is what my Chinese dad would order. And if you're ready to go beyond orange chicken, you just might find your new favorite here too.
