Sushiya continues to impress--easily one of my go-to spots in Iowa City for authentic Asian comfort and standout sushi. We tried their snow-aged sake this time (yes, aged in snow for three years!) and it was incredible--smooth, clean, and unlike anything else you'll find around here. As always, the sashimi was fresh, beautifully plated, and melt-in-your-mouth good. We mentioned we were celebrating a special event, and they surprised us with the cutest orange "bear" fruit carving. It's that kind of thoughtful, personal touch that makes this place unforgettable. I can never resist their Taiwanese popcorn chicken--crispy, tender, and packed with flavor--and the Three Cup Chicken tasted incredibly authentic. You can really tell this place is run by owners who care about getting it right, both in taste and presentation. Warm ambiance, kind service, and dishes that actually taste like home--Sushiya is a rare gem in the Midwest.

Lunch katsu don. Big portions. Very good.

Sushiya serves up some great sushi, especially for Iowa and the Midwest. I only visit this area when I'm seeing my best friend, and she usually takes me to Red Ginger--which I find subpar and overpriced for what you get. Sushiya, on the other hand, is the go-to spot. The flavors here are superior in every way. The seating inside is limited, but you can watch the sushi chefs working on the line, which is fun to see. It's clear they handle a lot of online orders because they were constantly busy. There's also a kitchen in the back for cooked dishes, though it's not visible from the dining area. Everything we tried was delicious, and I don't think you could go wrong with anything on the menu. I especially enjoyed the lunch portion of the Katsu Don--it had a lot of onions, but I didn't mind. I did ask for extra spicy mayo for my two deep-fried sushi rolls, as they were a bit bland on their own. The spicy mayo seemed house-made, with far more spices than I've seen at other sushi restaurants, and it was genuinely spicy, which was a nice surprise. The restaurant itself was quiet, aside from my best friend's child having a little meltdown at the end of the meal when his food wasn't coming fast enough. Overall, it was a great experience, and I'd happily return.

Had my birthday lunch at Sushiya yesterday and wow guys, this place has ALWAYS been wonderful! Still THE BEST sushi I've had in Iowa! Thank you to Avery (not sure of spelling) and to the entire staff for making my birthday truly memorable!

Not a bad little place. We sat outside, which I didn't even know they had outdoor seating, so that was a nice surprise. And it was a cute little area. Our server was super nice. I had ordered the Crabmeat Rangoon, Spider Roll, & the Shrimp Tempura Roll (which was my fav). The rolls were huge too! I would probably go back and try a noodle dish next.

One of my favorite Asian spots in town! I know they're known for sushi but I really like their non-sushi food items! They have the best Taiwanese chicken appetizer that is ADDICTING. All their apps are great. I also like their entrees. They have my favorite ever (off menu) chicken and broccoli - and I like how flexible they are with the requests (can upgrade to noodles for a small fee, or get beef instead).

When you are craving both sushi and pad Thai, Sushiya is here with both! Sushiya not only offers a wide selection of sushi but several entree options like pad Thai and noodles as well. It had been awhile since I had sushi, and I recently saw several reviews noting Sushiya's crab rangoon as the best. So, I definitely had to add that to my order. It's delicious and also reheats well, which isn't usually the case with crab rangoon. I also ordered the Spicy Salmon Crunch Roll and Chicken Pad Thai. Both were wonderful, and the pad Thai was a huge portion! It's a must if you are looking for leftovers. Sushiya also has a great outdoor area near the pond, so it's a perfect dinner venue in the summer.

Sushi, in Iowa? YA! Truly, I know how silly it seems to say you have amazing sushi in a landlocked state like Iowa... but dang. This family-owned must have does it right! This is the sister restaurant to Sushi House Family Restaurant in Cedar Rapids... which has been a local favorite for the past two decades or so. It is pretty mind blowing that this NL gem lives in what used to be a Quiznos? It does not, I repeat DOES NOT at all give sandwich slinging vibes. You walk in and it is minimal but charming with booths and sushi chefs front and center, doing their thang. We came in on a Wednesday, to celebrate a birthday. We ordered a handful of sushi (shrimp tempura, rainbow roll, yellowtail, spicy salmon and spicy crunch tuna), vegetable rolls, crab rangoons, edamame and a chicken teriyaki dish. Of course some sparkling sake and Sapporo, too. Pricing was on point, staff was knowledgable, service was fast and overall it was a stellar, tasty outing. There is plenty of parking, it is conveniently located just off Penn Street. When we left, the place was full! So be warned, it is a local favorite and with it being such a small spot-- plan accordingly. I am ashamed to say it took me darn near eight years to get to this spot. It serves up the best sushi in NL, perhaps even the area-- stop in today!

Best sushi in Iowa by far. Family owned business vibe with a small seating area. Definitely worth any time you have to wait.

I ordered a jalapeño cream cheese roll that unfortunately was completely overpowered by onions -- it drowned out the other flavors. I also tried a roll with a wasabi honey sauce that just didn't work for me at all; the sweetness and wasabi combination tasted off and kind of unpleasant. The other rolls weren't bad, but they felt like they were missing some texture -- a bit of crunch would have made a big difference. That said, the ingredients seemed fresh and the presentation was nice. I'd consider giving it another try and ordering differently next time.

Our server Grace was good and all the others hustling around and doing the line dancing keeps the vibes high. It was cooked to our liking and it hasn't been a problem the handful of times we have gone in the past 15 years. It really does take a well oiled crew and process to keep up with customers and all the complaints on getting that meat to the perfect doneness. I'd say Coralville site has it down well. I believe I even eye-witnessed a manager being very professional addressing a customers complaint most likely due to the doneness of their steak. Prime rib - medium rare - that's the ticket. I wouldn't want to get much else really as charcoal homegrown family steak at home can't be beat. However, my husband doesn't really dabble in prime rib and this has been the best around. You really have to enjoy the fatty goodness. Au jus and horse radish sauce goes great with it. I also do enjoy their baked potato with the oil and salted skin. Caesar salad to add some greens was good along with the yummy buns that we had no reason to add to the meal but dang too tempting to not nibble on them while we wait. We don't get out to steak joints often since we eat that at home but that prime rib sure is a treat.

I didn't realize they were uncooked until I took a bite, and they tasted horrible. The broccoli side was good and surprisingly well priced for the portion given. I got the tortellini which was heavy on the mushroom flavor due to the mushroom sauce- which I thought was interesting because I didn't remember that being mentioned anywhere in the description. And the last pasta was cajun chicken pasta (i think). It was meh. Overall the food was nothing spectacular. Also, I felt really bad for the employees. There was one lady, who I am guessing was the manager, running around yelling at everyone, but to an outsider it just seemed like the manager was bad at her job. When our order was being taken, the manager came up to the person halfway through taking our order and told her to switch places with another employee. The employees immediately complied, and the manager went to yell at someone else. Then we had to re-order what we had started to order which is fine, but I felt like it was super weird behavior from the manager. I'm probably doing a bad job at explaining the bad vibes this lady brought to the place, but it was bad enough that I was like 1. I feel bad for the workers and would never want to work here myself and 2. Thats probably why our food was uncooked, the employees were so busy getting yelled at for nonexistent things that they forgot.
