I had the best Butternut Squash soup ever here, it was delicious. You can't go wrong with the giant fresh and delicious pretzels with mustard and cheese, also fantastic and the best I've had. For entrees we a filet and country fried steak, both we fantastic. The restaurant is under new management which also includes 2 new chefs, the change is definitely showing and we couldn't be happier with our visit. Apart from the fact that our burgers were overcooked, a pork chop was insipid, our appetizer came out after the main courses, the main courses took almost an hour to come out along with the soup, a slice of pie cost $8, everything was fine. We stopped here for dinner Saturday night and while we waited for our table we asked our bartender Jeff and the couple next to us about the town. They informed us the White House Inn tour was starting in a few minutes and we had to go. The tour was the talk of the town and we shouldn't miss it. We said ok and Jeff kindly and quickly got our tab for us. We assured him we would be back after the tour for dinner because of how helpful they were. We returned back and Jeff remembered us and got us seated right away. We started with a German pretzel and beer cheese dipping sauce. Oh my, I could have licked the cheese bowl if people weren't around us! I had a burger and my husband the schnitzel. Both were fantastic and I really liked the herb seasoning on the fries and the pork cutlet was fried perfectly and came with a delicious helping of German potato salad. The worst worst worst reception ever. When my son asked for a table for seven they told him they would not serve more than 6. They said what they could do, when I asked, was seat four of us now and then 3 of us 30 minutes later. Most of the tables inside were empty, and about 1/3 had people in them outside. We said we would wait so we could all eat together and that we didn't mind waiting at all. They were horrible. Finally they said we could sit outside and have drinks. As soon as we sat down a very nice waitress came and brought us menus and took our orders and was great, very attentive and funny. We were patient, spent nearly 3 hours there, and she did an awesome job. We watched several people go in and leave mad, one even exclaiming as he walked out (party of 2), "I would never eat here!" Had Kayla, the hostess with the leastest, been at all accommodating and just explained what they were up against, I think the night would have been a lot better for a lot of people. They lost business that night and to be honest on a scale of 1-5 I would say the food was about a 2, but the service from our waitress (whose name I did get but which now escapes me-small, spiky black hair, probably 40-50s) was so good we stuck around and ended up spending a lot of time and money there. They really need to do something about the people greeting folks or this place will fold. read more

Stopped in Hermann for first time & hotel recommended Tim Mill restaurant for a nicer steak dinner. It's an old mill which takes you back in time. The atmosphere & decor was so cool and our waiter was excellent but the food was a disappointment. Coming from a German household & from a family restaurant background the food did not represent such a nice, cool place. We ordered prime rib & the schnitzel. I could tell by the presentation that it was probably not going to be good & it wasn't. The prime rib was reheated & the schnitzel was overcooked, even the vegetables were all wrinkled up. They were overcooked like they've been sitting on the stove for a long time. We were so disappointed. We wanted the food to be great. Not sure if it's because of Covid or they need a better chef. Also the music that was playing was bad. It was after Christmas & I'm sure people were sick of hearing Christmas music but you should play a variety of songs to please all customers. read more

My friends and I stopped here after a couple of wine tastings. We grabbed a nice table with an umbrella on the patio and then were told we had to be seated by the hostess, who moved us out in the sun. Our waiter was a little strange - he either was new or didn't know the restaurant's policies very well. We wanted to order the sampler of beers like they do at the brewery across the street, but apparently that was not an option. He came and took one person's drink order and then just walked off like no one else was sitting at the table, so that was very odd. Besides that - the food we ordered was good: the goat cheese appetizer, fried pickles, and I had the Cobb salad. read more

I was hot and hungry. It is crazy hot right now 98-99 and inside this place is cool and the beer I chose really fits the season. Some would scoff but I started with a shandy made from the stoplight ale. It went well with the burger and fries and I topped them off with a nice kolsch. We ate here at the recommendation of others. We were seated right away and since we knew what we want, we ordered immediately. We didn't see our waitress again for 30 minutes when she brought our salads. She did not offer to fill our waters. During this time 3 tables around us hadn't ever seen a waitress. It took another 45 minutes for our 2 entrees to come out. We almost left since our waitress almost never showed up. She left our dirty salad bowls on our table our entire meal and we never got water refills. The food was good but I'll never eat here again. It's not worth the price for that poor of service. Our waitress said that a big party in back was the reason but that's unacceptable. It doesn't take over an hour of 100% staff. read more

The hotel recommended them and despite the several negative reviews I thought I'd give it a try. My review has nothing to do with the food. It has to do with the bartender. Who one, looked like he was on adderall or speed. There was 5 people at the bar when we walked in and he spent his time talking to his customers about random stuff that they didn't seem impressed with before acknowledging we sat down. He finally took our order and talked our ears off when we didn't ask any questions for him to give the random info. When he should acknowledged the people that wanted to pay their bill that had been waiting when we walked in to pay their tab. A family of 6 came in and sat at the bar and it was like his mind exploded.he started panicking and being rude to the hostess who sat him a table as well which I get being overwhelmed when you are busy but at most there was 15 people who staggered in at different times and only wanted drinks it could've easily been done If he hadn't took one drink order at a time. Take the parties full drink order, together, make the drinks, and drop them off, then have your weird form of conversation with them. Don't make one drink come back and get the next drink that's how you mess up. Anyways we left after having one drink like everyone else and I'm sure he got bad tips all around. Learn how to read a room dude and maybe get retrained on bartending or try a different job. read more

My wife and I ordered the Whiskey Chicken dinner. The chicken was poorly prepared and did not come close to meeting our expectations based on the description in the menu. For $25 per plate, we were expecting a good meal and instead we received a grilled chicken breast with some bbq sauce drizzled over it. The dinner bread was hard as a rock and was difficult to chew. The restaurant was very chilly and several other guests were outspoken and actually moved tables. The staff did not seem cognizant of the need to address the temperature inside. read more

We enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff was very nice. The food was ok. I had the Reuben and it was tasty, good texture but not a lot of flavor. I like my Reuben's on the tangy side and this was not. I did really like the sweet potato fries, they were very light and airy. I had a fun and tonic but beware, it tastes more like a blood orange liquor than gin. I was excited to visit Tin Mill Steakhouse on my weekend away in Hermann with my friend. The location is great and the building interior is redone well. My friend ordered the rib eye and I got the sirloin, both preferred to be cooked medium. A yummy house salad came with the steaks, as well as bread with herb butter. Once our steaks arrived, I politely sent mine back, as it was extremely rare. It came back and was still gummy in the center so the waitress took it back a second time. By the time the steak was returned to me again, my friend had finished her meal and I had eaten a majority of my baked potato side. The steak was now very well done and the only taste was the char of the grill. Our kind waitress got the manager who spoke to me and sincerely apologized. She said sending it back once, she understands, but having to send it back twice and the cook still not cook it correctly was not OK. She kindly took my meal off of the bill and offered for a new steak to be made to perfection for me at no cost. At this time, the restaurant was already closing but she insisted I wait. After 25 minutes, my new steak had yet to arrive and the manager never came back out again. I assume the manager was following through and watching the cook make the new steak but by this time, I had enough of the back and forth and was ready to leave with a belly only full of salad and a baked potato. I never saw the manager again but I asked the other server to please let her know I was leaving. I gave the Tin Mill Steakhouse 2 stars for the lovely staff but was very disappointed in the issue with the meat. As a steakhouse, I expected better quality in the cook of the meat, especially after it had been sent back once. I am not sure I will return to Tin Mill Steakhouse again in the future. read more

The food was good once we received it but by that time we were all so starving that we ate the food in record timing. I ordered the lobster Mac n cheese and it was extremely underwhelming. For what I was served I *might* have paid $12. There was hardly any lobster in it and it was a TINY dish. There were shrimp on top which makes me think they knew there wasn't a lot of lobster in it so that was consolation. Long story short, it wasn't. The shrimp was extremely overcooked and the sweet potato fries were clearly from a frozen bag I could buy at the grocery store. As a local, we visited here on a Saturday night after church at St. George. The food was excellent, and there are no complaints on the service. However, the menu was limited and so pricey, that we regretted our decision to come. We are not tourists coming for a vacation; we are Hermannites just looking for a good dinner after church. This is not targeted towards locals at all. When $22 is your cheapest entree, you are looking for a lot bigger fish than us. Most places of this calibre have small plates or things that appeal to younger appetites. Our teenaged daughter saw nothing on the main menu that appealed to her, so she ordered an appetizer of toasted ravioli, which was served on a skewer with shaved parmesan and marinara. Lovely presentation, but she left hungry and my mom spent over $150 for a dinner for four.... in Hermann.... where we live and work. Not worth it.
