This place was so good! Great atmosphere, food and cocktails. Definitely recommend it!

First and foremost, our waiter was great and that's where it ended. We started with the crabcakes. They were so salty they were nearly impossible to eat and lacked any flavor of crab. Being in a German town, we had been looking for some good German food, so I was very pleased to see sauerbraten on the menu. The mashed potatoes were the best part of the plate. The fried cabbage lack seasoning and flavor, but the most disappointing part of the meal was the Sauerbraten. I sent it back to the Cook and the manager to see if they could cut the meat. It was literally impossible to cut with a knife and the idea of even chewing it became impossible. Now when I complain at a restaurant I never do it with the intention of receiving any kind of consideration off of the check. However, our waiter came back to tell me that the sauerbraten had been taken off of the bill. I explained that wasn't necessary and went ahead and paid the bill. Interestingly, the sauerbraten had not been removed from the Bill and I paid the $64 bill allowing for a decent tip for our waiter. My suggestion is find another place in town to eat. read more

Sunday brought us back to Hermann for an anniversary lunch, and Tin Mill was one of our top choices to check out. Located in a repurposed grain elevator at the entrance to historic downtown, right across from the Amtrak station and near the banks of the Missouri River, this restaurant makes great use of its picturesque space. Needless to say, we had high hopes. Everything at Tin Mill is crafted towards a wonderful experience: prompt, friendly service, low lighting and low ceilings to create an intimate dining setting, a wide range of local (as in, right-across-the-street local) whiskey, wine, and beer selections, and delicious food choices. My only complaint is really self-directed: I wish I had paid more attention to the separate lunch and dinner menus. In practice, I guess that means we'll need to drive back to try the prime rib next time. My wife and I started with drinks and appetizers while narrowing down the best main plate for a chilly fall afternoon. I opted for the whiskey flight, which include four local bourbon and rye samples. I tend to prefer rye, but my personal favorite was probably the Black Shire Bourbon (disclaimer: they were all great and you really can't go wrong as a casual whiskey fan, in my opinion). The bread starter was an excellent appetizer served with an ample helping of creamy butter. We try to make a rule not to fill up on bread at the start of a meal, and we luckily managed to exercise self-control once again. Torn between something we thought might be a bit lighter and healthier and something we knew we would be immediately satisfying, we finally went for the latter. I ordered the Deep Fried Chicken Sandwich and my wife tried the Brisket Grilled Cheese. The menu names and descriptions already let you know what to expect, but I did enjoy the chicken's crispy texture along with the flavor combo of curried aioli and apple slaw topping. Hermann has so many cool boutique stores, coffeehouses, and restaurants to try and we're excited to make our trip out an anniversary tradition. Tin Mill is worth checking out if you find yourself celebrating a special occasion or looking for a nice lunch on your way through town. read more

The vibes were off all around. We had issues with seating when we arrived. We had a group of 9 and there were plenty of open tables on the patio. However, we weren't allowed to sit at the only table big enough for our party because they are "only serving tables with umbrellas". We also weren't allowed to push two four-tops together, leaving one of our party sitting awkwardly in between without table space. Once we were seated, our server didn't seem interested in serving us. It took forever just to get drinks and apps, so we went elsewhere for dinner. Went here for dinner this weekend and the food was horrible. There were 4 of us. One got the crab cakes which was so fishy it was inedible (they took this off our bill), another got the potato pancakes which looked like asphalt because they were so burnt. My friend got the seasonal salad with grilled chicken and the salad was overdressed and wilted (and she had asked for the dressing to be on the side) and lacked flavor but she said the chicken was good. I got the smash burger and fries; the burger was ok and the fries were actually delicious so, that was the only saving grace of the meal. Besides that services was ok but it did take a long time to get our food then the restaurant was soooo cold. You looked around at other tables and others were noticeably cold... like shivering and looking up at the ceiling to see if they could redirect or block airflow. My husband and I were really looking forward to trying Tin Mill Steakhouse, but unfortunately our experience fell short from start to finish. We arrived with reasonable expectations, ordered a pretzel appetizer, a seasonal salad for me, and the chicken pot pie for my husband. I also ordered a glass of wine and he ordered a beer. It took more than 15 minutes just to receive our drinks, which set the tone for the rest of the evening. When the pretzel appetizer arrived, we were surprised to find that the $15 "pretzel" was actually just two pretzel sticks cut in half. They tasted fine, but the portion was incredibly small for the price. My seasonal salad was very bland--nothing memorable or flavorful about it at all. The biggest disappointment, though, was the chicken pot pie. Instead of an actual pot pie, it was essentially a bowl of soupy filling with a single puff pastry piece floating on top. For $25, we expected something much heartier and more thoughtfully prepared. The flavor was just okay, but it wasn't at all what was advertised or expected. Unfortunately, the service didn't help the experience. Our waitress was inattentive throughout the meal. She never mentioned any specials, didn't offer dessert, and was slow to check in. When we were ready to leave, it took far too long to get her attention so we could pay the bill. Overall, the evening felt overpriced and underwhelming. We did not get out of there till almost 9-9:30) to tell half our party they could only have their Prime Rib medium not medium rare, that made ZERO SENSE. We still waited another 30 minutes for our food. The prime rib was gray and tough!!! The waiter did offer to take it off of their bills. As he should. The other two entrées in our party were just mediocre. I just cannot believe how long we were there for a terrible dining experience‍ for 4 people. It had been a long day of drinking at wineries. We came here to Tin Mill after taking a two hour electric bike ride on the Katie trail. We got there around 4 and we had the entire place to ourselves for a little while. Thor; our server was kind and courteous. The establishment looks like a rustic German cavern but classier. We ordered the pretzel, The salmon with broccolini and lemon mashed potatoes and the Whiskey BBQ chicken with sweet mashed potatoes and crispy Brussels sprouts. The pretzel was crispy and had an amazing crunch on the outside and soft like a pillow in the inside. Not too much salt and the temp of it was perfect. The salmon was good although I have had better, it was paired nicely with creamy lemon mashed potatoes that were on point and the broccoli was a little ?greasy? but was perfect on texture. The BBQ chicken has a kick and is cooked perfectly. The sweet mash was bland but was perfect for the chicken and Brussels were way too greasy to eat, bummer because they tasted amazing with the cranberry served with it. read more

We just had a bday dinner for my mother in law. She ordered the Prime Rib rare to med rare. The tough result was medium to well done. I had the waiter return it to the kitchen be replaced with another steak. The next steak was tough and completely raw. Was this a message from the kitchen?? I ordered the Seafood spaetzle expecting a nice fluffy spaetzle with chunks of various seafood treats. What I got was spaetzle drowning in cheese. If there was any seafood in the spaetzle it was completely lost in cheese. Barely got thru 5 bites hoping to find something palatable but all I found was a pool of oil at the bottom of the plate. Obviously, it was the cheese. My wife had a Caesar salad which was OK but had much better. Tin Mill Steak house is the worst restaurant I have ever eaten at and best bypassed on your next visit to Hermann. The chef cannot possibly be proud of what he dishes up and serves. There was a little spat in getting us seated between the waitress, and the hostess, the waitress is very sweet and filled our waters right away and then left us for a long time. I ended up having to go and find a picture of water to refill our waters. We ordered the prime rib medium rare and it was definitely not prime rib. It was like a half of an inch thick. It might've been ribeye but for $42 it needs to be the best prime rib you can buy. We also had arancini and it had an odd flavor to it. The burger and the fries were good. The chocolate mousse tasted strange, and the apple dumplings were under fried so they had raw dough inside. It was not busy at all, so there was no reason that the food should've been overcooked. There are too many other really good restaurants to eat at in this town to waste your money here. It's too bad, because the building is pretty amazing. read more

Excellent Dining Option in Hermann MO, we ordered German Sausage, Calamari, Strip Steak, and couple of Cheeseburgers. The Cheeseburgers were fantastic as they were well seasoned and topped with a delicious Bacon Onion Jam. We also recommend the Strip Steak as it was very flavorful and included mashed sweet potatoes and seasoned Vegetables. They were accommodating for food allergies and special requests. Celebrated a special occasion here and the experience was exceptional. From the advance planning with reservation/arrangement help from Cheryl, she recommended the perfect wine selection to be ready upon arrival, along with floral arrangements, to coordinating some after dinner hot cocoa to take with us on our pre-planned carriage ride. Our server Chris who also goes by Grandma was super attentive all night and made sure our experience was memorable. I followed her recommendation and was super pleased! The steak frites were mouth watering and I'm still thinking about the delicious chimichurri. Tried a bite of the spaetzle with lobster my fiance ordered, so good, hard to decide what to order next time! Topped it off with the made to order apple pie, wow, so good and piping hot with ice cream. Hard to beat. The waitress poured water down my friend's leg and didn't say or do anything about it. The chicken was like the turkey from National Lampoons Christmas vacation. My friend had a salad and it was full of cores. The lobster was horribly overcooked. All of the food was almost impossible to chew. I would give them negative stars if I could. The service was excellent and the food came out really quick. We got the prime rib and schnitzel, which were both solid. My husband and I arrived really hungry and the lunch menu (although rather limited) looked great. Our appetizer of potato pancakes was excellent--very flavorful with what I'm guessing is a seasoning that includes bacon, onions and other spices. I ordered the Prime Rib sandwich, which was very good, including the grilled bun, horseradish sauce and au jus. My side salad was disappointingly skimpy, especially considering their confident prices. A balsamic vinegarette was the only dressing choice and should be 86'd for good. Yuck. Service was okay but we were frustrated that water refills were scarce. The dining room is beautiful inside and they've apparently retained much of the original beams and implements of the old mill. We had reservations, but the other people in our party were very late and he was very patient with us while we waited. They have a small menu, but some great options! We ordered the large pretzel with beer cheese and he beer cheese was so good I could've eaten it with a spoon! For dinner I ordered the catfish sandwich and tried the pork schnitzel... wow. Added the restaurant to my list when researching for a long weekend trip. I was a little disappointed they were out of the park schnitzel, but the seafood spatzel and cheese definitely made up for it. It was amazing. We sat there for probably 15 minutes before she ever came to get our drink order and she also just took our food at that point. She never checked on our table after taking our order, wasn't the one to bring it to us, and we had incorrect orders and needed things and she literally never came back until the end where she proceeded to throw the checkbook at my husband and dryly say oh sorry I didn't mean to throw that at you...but clearly had an attitude. Recently ate at the Tin Mill Steakhouse. The bartender was wonderful - did not catch her name. However, she told our out of town group to order the bread or else they won't serve it. Later, when we got our checks realized it was a $7 charge. As someone who fell for it, don't do it. The server was awful. She did get a 20% tip per the group rule. Not once did she tell us her name or offer to refill drinks. When we asked her about specials, she could tell us no information at a restaurant with 8 items on the menu. We had to request for more water after the having none while eating when we got our checks. read more

Our party's food was brought out at different times and one waited on her BBQ chicken for an additional 30 min while everyone else finished their food. Second prime rib that came out was without the baked potato so had to wait additional time for that. The sides were good tasting but cold. Waited again 30 min for our checks. Overall a terrible dining experience. Manager argued with us about the creme brulee, that was also not very good. Not recommended! read more

There were nice tables all set up for the special Folk... apparently we were not them. Family was here from TN thought we would treat them to a nice place for early dinner . After 25 minutes, our name was called, and were taken to an outside table. OK, we were hungry. Well, our table overlooked the lovely grass area that people toke their dog to to take a crap. You want to try to eat while watching dogs crap? These were not Service animals, why do people need to bring there dogs everywhere? Anyway, two tables were seated after us, one being one of the dog owners. We were never acknowledged, or offered drinks or water. Both tables seated after us had drink orders taken and they even brought the dog a bowl of water right after seating the couple. So, the loyalty is to dogs, not customers?
