Everything in the place felt sticky. The food was not good. Chicken wings are a "specialty" and not listed on the menu (but the place is called "Wings A-Blazin"?). We got chicken lips, which were a little dry and bland, and loaded fries, which were soggy. The sauces were okay, but you have to hunt around the restaurant for the flavors you want. So this is an interesting hole in the wall type joint just off the main drag when you roll into town. I was told by several people that this was *the chicken place* to go to. Well...sort of. Came in right after the 4th of July and needed a bite before leaving town. Even at shortly after 1:30 on a Sunday afternoon it was fairly busy. Be forewarned that you can be turned away if they're at capacity (or so I was informed). Started with the fried pickles and they were very good...sandwich sliced longways with a powder coat breading. Unfortunately the ranch that came with them was sad and didn't have much flavor. Next up were the chicken lips (aka nuggets/boneless wings) and the chicken was great, but again the sauces failed to do much. Finished the meal off with fried cheesecake and it was really solid. So really with good service, decent pricing, and the baseline food being good; this was about a 3.5 star place. But the sauces really left me lacking. Awesome wing place! Came with a group of 8, we were seated promptly by the hostess and our server came right over to get drink orders and answer any questions about the menu. The server was very nice and seemed to know about the place. The decor seemed to have a flight theme and even had an airplane upside down in the upstairs part of the restaurant. What a unique, great place we stumbled on to for lunch in Hermann! We had sightseeing in the area and decided to stop in for lunch before hitting the road for home. Are we glad we stopped? Yes, and yes! I was intrigued and then thrilled to look at the collection of airplane memorabilia decorating the walls, including the unusual restroom signs. Then the food was very good and reasonably priced for fresh food. I had never tasted "chicken lip" salad before and it was delicious! We walked in from out of town, excited to explore a small town. That was quickly tarnished by the stares we received both from staff and people dining. We walked all the way to the back to seat ourselves. As soon as our waitress approached us she didn't say a word and threw menu's onto the table and walked off. I had read about this place before our girls trip to the Kristkindl market. I've been to Hermann many times and didn't want swept up by a tourist trap. This restaurant had the best reviews for the town so we went for it. I figured if people from KC drive in just for the wings or lips then it must be good. Note lips are not actually lips, they are boneless wings or mini strips. First off the were so busy you couldn't walk in the door. This is a good sign for the food could be bad for the wait. They were very apologetic about making you wait, gave you an estimate for the wait and directed you places you could sit ( not many to choose from). There are only 6 chairs at the bar and a small seating area to wait for about 5 or 6. We were hungry but patient. There were eldery people there, snobby people, working class people, etc. Like the Fast Eddie's crowd drove down just for wings or something. Everyone's food in the restaurant looked great as it came out. Surprisingly a lot weren't eating wings, but were eating the seafood sampler. So we wait about 20 mins for a table of 6 hungry women. As soon as we sat down we put in an order for fried pickles with their home made ranch sauce. Both got 2 thumbs up and a big yum yum. All of us liked our food or loved it. We had wraps, honey bbq wings, hot and mild wings, and a burger. Everyone loved their food. The wings are wonderfully crispy but not greasy. The hot didn't seem very hot to me, but over a few wings the intensity could build up. The sauce comes more drizzled on than tossed so ask for extra sauce. I prefer mine tossed in it but with it being so busy they seem to limit a few "special requests". I had the buffalo chicken sandwich and loved it. Two NEGATIVE notables; their fries are good but way too thin and not much flavor. They are not curly fries as mentioned. Their more like sliced like an onion ring. Just too thin for my liking, but I ate them. Maybe they do this to cook them faster?? The cole slaw has no flavor whatsoever. See if you can substitute it. However, this is not going to hurt their rating with me. The POSITIVES: Service was awesome and they were very nice even when stressed with the holiday crowd. The wings burgers and wraps were amazing and the prices are reasonable! 6 of us ate/drank for $63 including one appetizer and 2 alcoholic beverages. ICheesy fries are amazing! Easily a meal by itself! Their wing sauce is super basic tho, tastes like it came straight out of a jar. It took us about 15 mins to be seated...that's no biggie. I really want to do a 2.5 star here... It's ok. It's certainly cheep enough. The wings, or in my case lips, were hot and fresh when they hit the table. Good job there. They are hit with buffalo sauce (you choose the heat) and then whatever flavoring you choose so keep that in mind. If you don't like buffalo sauce, be sure to tell them that. The fried pickles were pretty good when they came out, fresh from the frier and rocket hot, but as they cooled they became very greasy. The cheese fries are inedible. The fries are fresh cut - YAY! - but the "cheese" on top is about 1 molecule short of a petroleum product. Stick with standard dipping sauces for your fries and you'll be a happy diner. As choices in Hermann go, Wings a Blazin is not too bad... if a couple more options open or some of the other newer ones catch on better, Wings could easily go down in flames if all they do is maintain the status quo. read more

We were told this was the place to go in Hermann and boy were the suggestions right on target. We were seated immediately and we took in the aircraft theme. Be sure to really read the menu as you will find quizzes and facts on all things aircraft related. My husband ordered a chicken sandwich with his choice of temperature while I got the chicken tenders with a mild temperature, both came with hot and crispy fries. We were VERY bummed that they were out of their garlic bread sticks - if this is one of your popular items that you sell out of daily, I'd have extra stock on hand, especially if its a big weekend for the town. My husband tried their Farmer's Daughter Ale as well as another brew and was very happy with the two choices. While the food was great, minus the lack of supplies for their menu items, the service lacked big time. We saw our waiter maybe 5 times and it was frustrating to see the two guys next to us get refills, etc, while we did not. We pulled into town two hours late and running behind. We needed to find food, fast, before everything shut down. Hermann shuts down quite a bit after 8pm. Right up the street from our Inn we discovered Wings A-Blazin'. It was a great spot. It has a "local" vibe and was quite comfortable inside. The staff was friendly and met us with smiles in spite of how busy they were. We ordered a large order of wings and a turkey club wrap with cheese fries. The food was up fast and we were ready to go. The wings are a bit different than I am used to. They fry them and them pour sauce over them in the container. It was different in a good way. It made for some "Russian Roulette" of sauce dispersion. My wife and I enjoyed it. The turkey club was wonderful and simple. Just what we wanted. The fries were covered in cheese, Provel, which was a victory. The meal hit the spot and left us wanting nothing. We will remember this place is open late and the next time we are in town we will revisit this little wing station.
