Aebleskivers are a must! My friends and I enjoy girls' trips to Hermann and we don't let the weekend go by without a breakfast from Ainsley's Place. Don't forget the Aebleskivers - Danish pancake balls, a recipe (and a special pan) passed down for generations. They are perfectly crispy but soft on the inside, served with powdered sugar and a raspberry syrup. Delicious! Other breakfast items are consistently great as well, like the thick-cut bacon and crispy breakfast potatoes. We typically call ahead and order takeout by necessity because seating is limited and it gets crowded on the weekends. During the warmer seasons, outdoor seating is also an option. read more

Happened upon this place on a cross country drive, in search of farm to table. The reviews strongly recommended, but was a bit underwhelming. We saw the cook carrying a bag of frozen onion rings into the kitchen, which was a bit of a red flag. The server was very nice and accommodating, I was just more disappointed in the lack of fresh food in the summer...there were fresh elements, but largely not locally sourced. read more

We came here recently for breakfast, and both my husband and I had a very tasty omelet. The food is a good option for breakfast if you're in town. However, this place is cramped for seating, or if you are unfortunate like I was, you will have a waitress drop something behind you. Out own waitress was fine, but she didn't come often to our table, but others came by. Someone, and I assume maybe the owner had a little girl running around, and I feared she might trip a waitress or someone with a food tray. Insanely Delicious Food. Whether you get savory or sweet. I love that all the sweet options still have eggs and sausage so you'll still get some savory with your meal. My wife got the Biscuits and Gravy ($10), and I got the Pancake Balls (Aebleskivers, $14). We ended up sharing food which was perfect. To be 100% honest and in all seriousness, and to be taken WITHOUT any grains of salt: this food is some of the best I've ever had. I was stuffed but my mouth couldnt resist and said "just one more bite" and i kept doing that over and over until I was so stuffed I had to tell myself to stop or I wouldn't be able to leave the restaurant. A restaurant this good in Hermann MO just shouldn't exist. It would make more sense if this was in New York City and plates were $40 each. I'm very impressed is all I can say. read more

Amazing place we happened upon by chance! The food was outstanding - we had shrimp and grits and the eggs Benny - it does not get better. Rey was our server and she was delightful (and about to get married!). Small, quaint place a little off the street with a great atmosphere. If I lived here, I'd eat here almost every day. First Impression: Epic Fail My wife and I have a house in Hermann and spend many weekends there, so we are not just random tourists passing through. On Sunday morning, while out walking, we decided to stop in and check out Ainsley's Place. From the outside, it looked small but appealing, and since they were open and had patrons eating inside, I stepped in to take a look. I saw a menu on an open table, picked it up because I wanted to see the offerings, and make a decision on whether this was somewhere my wife and I would want to try. Before I could even put on my reading glasses, I was abruptly confronted and asked what I was doing. I explained that I simply wanted to look at the menu and see whether we might like to eat there. The response was stunningly rude. The menu was forcibly snatched out of my hand, and I was told in no uncertain terms, in a sharp, aggressive, and challenging manner, that I could not "just pick up a menu." I explained that I was only reviewing the offerings and would of course put it back. I was then dismissively informed that there was a wait list and that if I wanted to see the menu, I could look it up online. As I walked away, I could hear a few disparaging remarks muttered under her breath. That may be their policy (not allowing a non-seated guest to view the menu), but the way it was handled was unnecessarily combative, unwelcoming, and, frankly, bizarre. There was no posted menu outside, no one greeting guests at the door, and no reason a simple, polite interaction should be turned into a ridiculous confrontation. A restaurant gets exactly one chance to make a first impression, and ours was terrible. We left without any interest in staying, and based on that experience, I am sure we will never return. read more

Waitress Rey is the most socially awkward person i've ever encountered in my life. She made several unnecessary comments regarding the deceased mother of one of the ladies in our party. Then took it upon herself to tell us that if it makes her feel any better her dad is a piece of sh*t too. Girl say what!? Have several seats. DO NOT recommend this establishment while Rey is an employee. Do yourself a favor and find another place with more pleasant people and service. read more

I've never been called 'hostile' before...my wife and I wanted breakfast so we walked to Ainsley's place. We were greeted pleasantly at the door and told it would be a 15 minute wait...we were asked to wait outside (even though there was an empty table). We asked to see a menu and were told it was only on the website. We asked for water while we waited and were told they don't give out glasses of water. We sat outside and within a couple of minutes a couple sat down outside and were given menus. No one had left the restaurant yet. I inquired about why they were seated ahead of us and were told they were on the wait list (we were not invited to be added to a wait list). I asked about the menus and they told me that they have had menus taken too many times. I said we would not take them...they said it's their policy. I asked to speak to the owner (assuming the place was named over behalf) and was told (as I perceived it, as a 'put down') that the namesake is only a child, like I should've known. Nonetheless I was then told that I was not going to be served because I was hostile....i am sure they are lovely people and the food is delicious and under other circumstances we would've had a terrific meal, but I think they need to be a little more courteous and not treat patrons as 'bad people' without any reason other than they've had a bad experience before. Suggest a paper menu, suggest courtesy cups for water for those waiting...suggest being upfront about policies and not lying. If you treat people poorly to begin with and then call them hostile because they don't appreciate then I think a poor review is warranted. read more

Such a great last minute choice. One of the only true sit down breakfast places in the area. It opened at 930a on Sunday and we arrived at 927 with a line already forming. Not a ton is seating so be there at open and/or prepare to wait a bit. Food was wonderful and was neat to be able to see them cooking as they went. Definitely worth a try again. read more

Really disappointed considering all the reviews. Eggs were scorched. Childs breakfast was served with a generous portion of large cracked black pepper on his egg's and potatoes, complete turnoff for a 6 year old. Food was all less than hot. Price was more than $100 for 4 adults and 3 children. With only 2 drinks other than water. Toast was dry and cold. If I could give this place zero stars, I would. The servers were incredibly rude and are known to dislike tourists, even though tourism is what keeps this town alive. We weren't even offered water because two people in our party hadn't arrived yet, despite the fact that it was 100 outside. Set your expectations before coming... They are a small business that has a slower pace than other bigger or corporate restaurants. With that said, the service was still very good for the pace that was the norm. It is a relaxed atmosphere with friendly locals coming in, so you don't feel our of place. The food is fantastic. I am the biggest pancake snob and they just knocked it out the park. They were SO good! I didn't see chocolate chip pancakes on the menu but they had some and accommodated my request. With no syrup, these huge pancakes really satisfy. I was thankful that the 3rd pancake was a little over done because I would have eaten them all with no shame. I also had eggs and sausage. The coffee was also very good. TLDR: Laid back, Clean, set your expectations for a slower pace but excellent food. Pancakes are very good. read more

They took an hour to get food out. The server was so rude to us as well. She literally yelled at us for bringing a to go cup inside. Which shouldn't have been a problem because they didn't even get us drinks for at least ten minutes when we were only the second group in the door at opening. This place is ridiculous. Lots of open tables- like 5 or 6- and we were told we had to be on their wait list. Couldn't even sit down anywhere. Then the waitress overheard my husband asking me why we had to be on a wait list and she copped an attitude, nastily said " I can hear you" and gave me a dirty look.
