Jambalaya Casserole
Dan M.

Friendly and prompt service. A good selection of wine. The fried oysters and especially the jambalaya casserole were delicious. Costs are very reasonable. If I didn't live so far away I'd be a regular here. I'd be surprised if there is a better restaurant in Hermann.

Zydeco is a hidden Cajun gem right in the middle of Missouri! Honestly, I never expected to find such amazing Cajun food in a town known for its German history, but I'm so glad we stopped here. We went early on a Saturday evening for dinner, and the food completely blew us away...it was that goooooooood. We started with the pickle coins, a cup of gumbo, and crawfish bisque. Everything was very flavorful. For the main course, we had the shrimp po' boy and fried chicken with red gravy and both were absolutely delicious. I had never tried the cajun red gravy so it was fun to explore a new dish and it did not disappoint. We savored every bite. The place had a fun, lively vibe, and our server was super friendly and checked on us with lot of care. Everything from the food to the cleanliness to the service was spot on. If you're ever in Hermann, then definitely eat at Zydeco. You won't regret it!

Crawfish ettuffee

Grabbed dinner at Zydeco while in Hermann. It was decently busy, I'd definitely recommend a reservation on Friday or Saturday night. We had been drinking all day, so we opted for water and followed our server's recommendations for dinner. We got the shrimp po body and crawfish ettuffee. Both were very good and I would order either again! Glad we got a chance to eat here

We hoped it would be great, but stir fry dish w/ shrimp was a giant salt ball. Only decent item @ our table was their soup w/ cornbread. *Appetizer (not shown) of crawfish was $10... it's quite small, mostly battered tiny pieces w/ sauce that work w/ it. There are better places in town.

Service was great! Drinks were awesome. Beware it's Creole and it's spicy. Very delicious.

It's not that often I go to a restaurant and I Audibly say wow!! And this was the ticket. We started we the fried crawfish tails, very good, then we had the pasta and the red gravy and chicken and gumbo. Everything was top notch. Our waiter was also very friendly!

Zydeco Pasta

We had the best service and the most delicious food on Friday night. The Zydeco Pasta was the perfect amount of spicy, and the fries are seriously addictive. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu!

Heard good things about this restaurant and had to try. Drinks. Are. Strong. You get your monies worth! Tasty yet strong. Hubby had the pasta dish and loved every bite was our server's favorite dish and obvious why. I had the fried oyster po' boy. A little bit heavy on the breading but the baguette made up for it. Sweet potato are a must. Service was on point and quick. Super pleased to have this option in a town of German food.

What a surprise to find delicious Cajun food in a German wine town. We highly recommend eating here and then calling for a trolley pick up.

We've been to Doxie Slush a few times in the past few years, and it's never a regret. We didn't get food this past stop in, but I do remember and can recommend the Coconut Shrimp Tatchos (sweet potato tots). I haven't explored the rest of the food menu personally, but the descriptions sound delicous on first glance. At this time, there are 12 frozen cocktails in a variety of sweet, fruit, rich, and tart flavor profiles. My wife and I tried the flight, which included the Blueberry Cinnamon Margarita, Dappletini, and Strawberry Amaretto Shortcake. We both agree the Dappletini was our favorite, but each is worth a taste for its own unique charm. Give it a try next time you pass through Hermann; you're bound to become a new fan.

First and foremost, our waiter was great and that's where it ended…read more We started with the crabcakes. They were so salty they were nearly impossible to eat and lacked any flavor of crab. Being in a German town, we had been looking for some good German food, so I was very pleased to see sauerbraten on the menu. The mashed potatoes were the best part of the plate. The fried cabbage lack seasoning and flavor, but the most disappointing part of the meal was the Sauerbraten. I sent it back to the Cook and the manager to see if they could cut the meat. It was literally impossible to cut with a knife and the idea of even chewing it became impossible. Now when I complain at a restaurant I never do it with the intention of receiving any kind of consideration off of the check. However, our waiter came back to tell me that the sauerbraten had been taken off of the bill. I explained that wasn't necessary and went ahead and paid the bill. Interestingly, the sauerbraten had not been removed from the Bill and I paid the $64 bill allowing for a decent tip for our waiter. My suggestion is find another place in town to eat.

We arrived with reasonable expectations, ordered a pretzel appetizer, a seasonal salad for me, and the chicken pot pie for my husband. I also ordered a glass of wine and he ordered a beer. It took more than 15 minutes just to receive our drinks, which set the tone for the rest of the evening. When the pretzel appetizer arrived, we were surprised to find that the $15 "pretzel" was actually just two pretzel sticks cut in half. They tasted fine, but the portion was incredibly small for the price. My seasonal salad was very bland--nothing memorable or flavorful about it at all. The biggest disappointment, though, was the chicken pot pie. Instead of an actual pot pie, it was essentially a bowl of soupy filling with a single puff pastry piece floating on top. For $25, we expected something much heartier and more thoughtfully prepared. The flavor was just okay, but it wasn't at all what was advertised or expected. Unfortunately, the service didn't help the experience. Our waitress was inattentive throughout the meal. She never mentioned any specials, didn't offer dessert, and was slow to check in. When we were ready to leave, it took far too long to get her attention so we could pay the bill. Overall, the evening felt overpriced and underwhelming. Between the lackluster food, the confusing menu execution, and the poor service, we left disappointed and unlikely to return.

The quality of the seafood was a very clean tasting seafood. Even the shrimp had a nice clean flavor. And we're you looking for butter? Oh, they do (not) spare the sticks of butter at this place! The potato. Oh yes, I said "potato". I have never had a seafood bowl - have (just) a single potato. The potato tasted absolutely great. But 1 potato? That was a joke - especially after you see what these items cost! The garlic butter: There was plenty of butter. Tye flavoring of the butter, certainly was unique of sorts. Seemed to have (possibly) a chili powder base. And though I thought it was good...I also got tired of the taste, after a bit. The Big Downer at this place: Cost. You see my (2) platters. Add (3) cans of Coke - the cost was $150.00. Yes, that's correct: $150.00. Sure, there's a whole lobster on one of the platters. BUT, it wasn't that big by any means. And let's remember: 1 potato was included in the platter. 1 small red potato, came with it; at that price! Lol. Conclusion: Krustaceans is where you should go - for the seafood boiler platters. A much better combination of quality, value and price.

I enjoyed a mulled wine, salmon and potato cakes. The food was prepared well and was delicious. The caveat (there's always a caveat) is, be prepared to spend a lot of money on a meal that I've personally cooked for about a 5th of the price. However, as I was eating out because I didn't feel like cooking tonight, it was very close to being worth the expense. I also want to thank my waitress as she was very good.

What a great little place…read more We stopped in here to grab a bite to eat after the long drive to town. Dropped off our stuff at our Airbnb and headed straight here. The only negative I have is that I didn't have time to eat more of the food. And order more drinks. So, this one will be on the list for a return visit. But, I can hear you saying... "Rob, you only scored it 4 out of 5!" Well, that is because I can't do a half-star. So let me explain! The Food - Amazing Schnitzel with all the right sides. Katie got the salmon, again seasoned and cooked to perfection. They get all stars for the food! The Ambiance - This place, at one time, was a working mill and has all of that rustic charm. There are private rooms that are decked out in the downstairs of the place, and plenty of amazing thick-beamed rooms by the bar and main seating area. Lots of fun things outside when it isn't too cold. Again, all the stars! The Service - The person who seated us gave us a quick rundown on the local liquors and their general food. Then, just for grins, let us go take pictures downstairs and at parts of the bar. See attached. She also offered to go further, but we declined and headed to our table. Our waitress... well... she was efficient and friendly. She took our order correctly and delivered the food and check appropriately. And here is where the half-star gets lost. I asked, "Which do you think is better tonight? The Lobster Spätzle or the Schnitzel?" Katie said I looked at her like she had just melted onto the floor when she replied with. "I prefer the Schnitzel! But, I haven't ever had any spätzle." Wait?!?!?! You are working in a Germanesq restaurant, in a Historic German town, and are over the age of 45. Obviously have worked here for a while. And you don't know what one of the 6 dinner dishes, not a salad or a burger, tastes like?!?!?! I mean... I can understand if it was vegan or something like that... but she just told me that she likes the PORK Schnitzel! Owner/Manager... please make sure your peeps can answer the simple flavor questions. Another place was even able to tell me which wine they thought would go with my food... off the top of her head, and they had more on the menu. That said! All of you who get the chance to eat here should take it! I know when I make it back to Hermann, I will, and I'm sure they will get that last star!
