I thought I was visiting Hermann for the wine, but the food ended up being my favorite part of the trip. When we arrived, the restaurant did seem a little understaffed, so service was slower than usual, but thankfully I had made a reservation and we had no trouble getting seated. Even with the wait, the staff was kind and doing their best, which was totally understandable. I ordered the Zydeco pasta with crawfish, and we also shared the jambalaya casserole. Both dishes were fantastic. The pasta was basically like a rich, flavorful lobster mac & cheese -- absolutely delicious. The jambalaya casserole was topped with this amazing cheesy sauce that made it even better. The restaurant itself was such a cute spot, with way more seating than I expected, including an adorable patio in the back. Overall, such a charming place with amazing comfort food. The dining area was clean with a nice stamped concrete floor, had loads of natural light with huge windows in the back, and it had a beautiful New Orleans mural in the back. We wished for a bigger dish for the small cups of gumbo and red beans and rice because they were so good! I'm sure they'd come a bit more seasoned or spicer in the south, but in MO, they seemed to tame it down a bit - still delicious though! (And there are two hot sauces and a Cajun spice blend at the table.) The wedge salad with the homemade blue cheese dressing was delicious!! Love some Cajun food and this place didn't disappoint. We got a bowl of gumbo to share as the starter. It was thick and rich with nice chunks of andouille and chicken. Very good. I had a shrimp poboy that had some nice large shrimp. Very good, only thing would be a better bun to handle the insides (tad crumbly). Cornbread was very good. Zydeco is a hidden Cajun gem right in the middle of Missouri! Honestly, I never expected to find such amazing Cajun food in a town known for its German history, but I'm so glad we stopped here. We went early on a Saturday evening for dinner, and the food completely blew us away...it was that goooooooood. We started with the pickle coins, a cup of gumbo, and crawfish bisque. Everything was very flavorful. For the main course, we had the shrimp po' boy and fried chicken with red gravy and both were absolutely delicious. I had never tried the cajun red gravy so it was fun to explore a new dish and it did not disappoint. We savored every bite. The place had a fun, lively vibe, and our server was super friendly and checked on us with lot of care. Everything from the food to the cleanliness to the service was spot on. Im not from here & have tried a few places around THIS PLACE STOLE MY HEART!! I still cannot breathe from being unable to stop myself. ATM the menu is creole inspired & we had the Zydeco pasta (I could not get enough, my friend & I asked for our silverware to be confiscated). Best fried chicken I've ever had, the red gravy it's paired with is drinkable. The cornbread was perfect, not too sweet. The pickle coins were breaded to perfection & paired perfectly with the roumalade (you could also ask for homemade ranch). Our server Grant was so attentive, & also packed our bag of food up for us before leaving. I've never ordered so many things at once & loved them all. Beautiful experience & will be making several trips back specifically for this place. We essentially had 4 courses & drinks. Definitely a value for four courses. This is not real creole food. This is mush from a can. It was horrible. I couldn't find one vegetable as I dug through my rice cause it was a purée of what ever the can says. There was no craw fish in the dish either. Yes it was suppose to have craw fish, celery onion and pepper. Nothing, just this mush. This is. It a real Louisiana style restaurant. This is a generic can of pretend . They heated and dumped on rice. I went through every little bit with my fork trying to find something to distinguish. Absolutely a mess. Only in Hermann for one night and we ate her twice, we liked it so much!! we are not much for spicy food so we opted for the catfish which was amazing - Got it two days in a row. Had the shrimp Poboy, which was good but very messy. I love sweet potato fries, and these were probably some of the best I've had!! also tried the red beans and rice and cornbread, which were great. My husband and I arrived in Hermann, MO late yesterday evening, and were lucky to make it to this restaurant before they closed. That being said, we quickly ordered our food before the kitchen closed. What we did appreciate was the service and ability to take our order rather quickly. The fried oysters we ordered as our starter were good and I like the remoulade sauce with them. We ordered a cup of gumbo and it was relatively tasty, although it appeared that they put a bit too much rice in it. So, by the time were received our main meal, the jambalaya, I anticipated something decent, however, we were both disappointed. We also noticed they have a surplus of rice at their disposal. Any more rice, and I would have thought we were at a Chinese restaurant. The Jambalaya lacked any shrimp, hardly any chicken and just a few slices of sausage. My husband suggested that perhaps we got the bottom of the pot scraps since we were late, and perhaps that was true, but I would have appreciated a heads up for being charged $14 per plate. read more

We found Zydeco on Yelp and decided to give it a try. I'm glad we did. We enjoyed the food very much. I had the crawfish etouffee, which was recommended by the waiter and was very good. He also recommended the boudin balls, which I enjoyed also. It's nice to get good recommendations from the server. My only minor complaint, and this seems to happen everywhere I go, was the seating of a huge table with many children right next to us when we were the only people in the restaurant. I don't understand why people do that. There was at least one other table where those people could have been accommodated. But this is a mystery that permeates my restaurant-going life, and is not specific to this one. So hie yourself over to Zydeco for a nice meal when you find yourself in Hermann. Beautiful new eatery in town. Hopefully the owners will watch the feedback to keep improving and gain stability. Misty was great! Very attentive, friendly and helpful. My husband loved her suggestion of the Jambalaya casserole. I really liked the Bayou wedges (potatoes with their skin intact and yummy Creole(?) cheese sauce). Generous portion and lightly deep fried for added crispness. The Wedge Salad was good. The plating almost makes it impossible to eat, though - it's way too crowded in that ridiculous bowl. Delicious house-made blue cheese dressing and the ($added$) fried chicken was nice - perhaps could use a little more seasoning. We would definitely return! Staff needs to be told that water pitchers shouldn't be touching the glass's rim when being refilled. read more

I'm in Hermann a lot and have zydeco's food off and on mostly off season. Overall it's pretty good. The crawfish étouffée, red beans and the boudin balls are always good, the Friday catfish special is fantastic with high quality fish, the salads are ok, crawfish bisque is not good and I like a strong fish taste. The cocktails, I should have known better than to order a hurricane, it was terrible at least for me but the waitress subbed out a beer so they took care of it. Zydeco is a fine addition to the Hermann restaurant scene. read more
