I visited Stone Hill Winery yesterday, and while the property is beautiful, the service was extremely disappointing. When we walked in, we weren't greeted at all. Several other couples who arrived around the same time were welcomed immediately, but we were left standing there without any acknowledgment. It was uncomfortable and made us feel overlooked in a way no quest should experience. I can't say why we were treated differently, but the contrast was hard to ignore. Because of the lack of attention, we ended up buying only a few bottles- even though we originally planned to purchase two full cases. We also chose not to buy anything from the stores afterward, which is unusual for us, but the experience at the beginning made it difficult to fully appreciate the visit. For a winery with such a strong reputation, I expected a much more welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. This was a one- star experience for us, and we won't be returning. read more

We visited the Stone Hill Winery with my wife's sister and her husband. We did the guided tour of the wine cellars which actually have quite a bit of history (dug by hand, etc.). Our tour guide was great and we really enjoyed the tour. We enjoyed a delightful lunch on the patio - the food and service were quite good. My only criticism of the dining experience was when the waitress brough the check and my wife said she was picking it up and the waitress looked at the check and said "well, you're getting off pretty cheap". I think that comment was rude and uncalled for. We did buy some wine to take with us and enjoyed our visit despite the waitresses' comment. read more

Went for dinner which was after winery hours. Barn like setting , casual and welcoming. Made reservations for our group of six. Service was slow and we had to repeat our orders to the waitress as she lost our originals. We ordered some starters , cheeses, potato pancake for sharing. We're ample and good. Most of us ordered German dishes which were typical, like cutlets, potato salad,cabbage. Salads included with meal and bread / rolls service . Did not leave hungry. Medium prices. Went here for a wine tasting and it was an amazing time! It is only $15 for 6 wines to taste and you get a stemless wine glass with it which is awesome. Our server was Noah and he was extremely knowledgeable about the specific wines and wine in general. He was super nice and helpful. The building and property itself is gorgeous. For my Louisville, KY people - this is the Huber's of Missouri (without the farm). I stopped here on my way home from vacation to break up the drive. Right off the bat, it was a completely overwhelming. There was a line to have your IDs checked before you went in to the shop. At the tasting area, you had to check in, pay and receive a time. As others said, the tasting was $12 and it did include the glass. There were several wines that I liked and I did take home several bottles. Because it was so busy, the tasting rooms were on 20 minute increments. So you kind of got the tasting and a little bit of info but not a lot. The servers seemed to be doing the best job with the time that they had. There was a local trolley constantly bringing people in when I stopped by. Most of the people on the trolleys were beyond drunk and still carrying bottles from their previous stops. This was a bit of a deterrent for me and I definitely wouldn't stop again on a weekend in the fall. read more

Hermann, Mo is about 3 hours away from Kansas City. Great place to get away. It's a quaint small German town. Stone Hill Winery is one of the many winery in the area located up a hill with great scenic view. We went through a tour of the winery, followed by a wine tasting. It was great. For $15 we got to taste 6 different types of wine. We found a bottle of our favorite to take home. Nice property to walk around and take pictures. Shop in the main building for wine and gifts to take home. There is also a restaurant on the premises. Staffs are very nice and inviting. read more

First off, I am not a wine connoisseur by any means. All I know is that I like my wine dry, dark, and deep red. And if it's not dry red, I'll take a sweet white wine or port with snacks. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised by their restaurant! They serve German food and usual American lunch food. We got a combo platter in order to try a bit of everything. The schnitzel was pretty tasty. The potato pancakes are thicker than latkes and served with chunky apple sauce. It's not as crispy as latkes but still very delicious. For drinks you can order by glass, by bottle, or get their wine flights. They split the flights into red, white, and couple other options I don't remember. Essentially you get three predetermined glasses. The red flight is $13 whereas the rest were around $10. The extra $3 was so worth it (because I loved the reds). My husband who usually gets white also liked two of the three reds we got. The food is a little pricey but this is a winery so it's expected. But the quality of food is probably better than most wineries. We paid $5 each to try 6 wines each for the tasting portion of our trip. So this means we should have gotten 12 total samples right? Well the lady we got was suuuuper nice and suuuuuper liberal with the sampling portions. We ended up getting 16 samples, not because we asked, but because she wanted us to taste the difference between a white wine on my husband's list vs another white wine not on our list that was made slightly different. We ended up buying 6 bottles-- 2 dry reds, 1 dry white, 1 sweet white, and 2 desserts (both made with whiskey). We drink wine so infrequently that this will last us close to a year. Our winery trip last year was to St. James, and we definitely liked Stone Hill better. read more

When it comes to Hermann wineries, I think everyone knows Stone Hill. Wine is *good* for Missouri, lots of options. But DANG it's expensive to taste here! Plus you always have to wait for your turn. It's nice to come during the pandemic, and be outside. They usually have a band on weekends which is fun, some things to snack on. I think it's a spot everyone should go once, it has a fun layout, beautiful views, and you're right in the middle of the winery. read more

Our first Missouri winery experience and it was amazing! We were able to get in for a wine tasting right away. Noah served us and he did an amazing job! He was very personable and gave us recommendations. We went to 5 different wineries in town, and this one was my favorite! The wine prices are also extremely cheap for the flavor and quality. It is also located on a hillside so you can sit and have a picnic with a nice view with your wine. They even gave us wine glasses to keep with our tasting!! They also have a charcuterie fridge where you can buy a bunch of wine snacks. read more

TL:DR - not impressed at all with their wines. The grounds are beautiful with seating spread out. They do a better job than the other wineries in the area in terms of covid precautions. Tasting is on the high end at $12. Wines can be found cheaper at the local save-a-lot. ---------------------------------------------- I never know why I keep coming back to Stone Hill. I feel like it's because it's really popular? Buy maybe I only think their popular because they have a ton of ads? Cause the wine is not great. Granted people's wine preferences differ greatly, I just did not and have not ever enjoyed any of these wines the last three times I've been here. I will say the grounds and the building themselves are really beautiful. Stone hill has also implemented their covid precautions way better than the other wineries in the area. Their outdoor seating is way more spread out. The tastings are staggered in groups in which you have to sign in to do. You'll have to wait until the next available time slot. We waited about 10 min on a Saturday, so not bad. The tasting are $12, which is high. You do get to keep your tasting glass thought. Winery tours are closed during covid and the shop is all one way to reduce close interactions with other people. Most interactions with staff are also done behind plexiglass. Several of their wine options are also much cheaper at the local save-a-lot than can be bought at the winery itself. read more

We loved our visit to Stone Hill! This was my first time to Hermann and this was definitely the place to go in our limited time there. We got there and immediately went on an amazing tour of the cellars and the vineyard. We spent probably a good 45 minutes tasting at the end of the tour. We loved so many of the wines. We loved the Traminette and if I remember correctly, the Chambourcin. We bought ourselves some wine glasses and a couple of bottles and had ourselves a night! First winery visit in MO! Lots of space for parking. The staff greeted us as soon as we walked in. Wine tastings you pay for but she only gave us a little to taste. Probably the least amount I've ever had during a tasting. The lady doing the tasting also didn't talk much about the wines. Was not super impressed. After the tasting we walked around the little shop tables they had for the derby day spring festivities. It was pretty cute on the inside. After was the wine tour. The Woman who was giving the tour was very knowledgeable and seemed pretty excited about the winery. Being able to see the barrels was the best part and hearing the back story was neat. But once that was over didn't do too much else. I think next time doing the wine tour would be best. read more

I had the "whiskey to wine" which is part of their Cellar Series, and I loved the infusion of wine aged in whiskey barrels. I visited during my birthday weekend. We tried the VIP tasting and our host was knowledgable, friendly, and did a fantastic job walking us through all the flavors. Great stories, too! I wish I could remember his name so I could give him props-Room 1 is that helps The winery was set up on the hill overlooking the town below. We enjoyed the views from the outdoor areas. Very cute gift shop. Great place to load up on goodies for yourself and souvenirs. We didn't take the tour but wish we had now. All the staff we encountered were friendly and accommodating. This is a pretty winery. We made the mistake of walking here from our guest cottage. I would not recommend walking from downtown Hermann because it is a trek up the hill, but that was our mistake! The regular tasting is $5 to try 6 wines, which is very reasonable. The wines are good, not my favorite though. The tasting room was crowded so the tasting was a bit rushed, even though the man pouring the wine was very friendly. My favorite thing here are the wine slushees, which were very refreshing on a hot summer day! There were several tables in the shade outside and live music playing. The tour is so awesome here! It's free which makes it even better, but the history lesson was my favorite part of the whole thing. Steve was the tour guide on Monday. He gave great history of the town of Hermann as well as the winery. It was most enjoyable just listening to him talk. The tour lasts about 30 minutes and takes you through the start of the winery and it's impact on the region, prohibition era, and brings you to the current day. The Norton grape vines are so nice to look at and the cellar is so awesomely cool! If you're in Hermann you owe it to yourself to stop in. We also ate at the restaurant onsite. I tried the pork schnitzel and it was yummy. The sauerkraut and german potatoes were delicious too. The restaurant has a unique ambiance, especially since the booths are fashioned out of the old horse stables. I also highly recommend the pretzel and cheese appetizer. Trust me you'll want to take some back to your B&B or take it home. read more

I wish I could give my experience a zero star rating. Upon visiting the Stonehill restaurant over the weekend we were met by the hostess (and manager) Ashlea. She was very rude to myself & my group. She said she was unable to accommodate us and turned us away, yet she accommodated a group that entered the restaurant after us. Upon reading other reviews about this restaurant I have noticed that Ashlea has a bad reputation. Her unprofessionalism caused her to lose several customers that day. I plan to tell my family and friends about this terrible experience and we will never by Stonehill wine, nor visit this restaurant, again. read more

Beautiful grounds that sit up in a hill. There are picnics outside overlooking some vines that offer a nice place to enjoy a bottle of wine. Some snacks are available inside and while not inexpensive they are good. Wine: for dry wine drinkers, we were pleasantly surprised by the Vidal Blanc. For under 10$ a bottle it's a steal for a light, easy drinking wine. The Cross J Norton is what once convinced me to appreciate and love a good Norton. Try it here! These are not vina viniferous grapes but if you go into tasting MO wines not expecting those with a willingness to expand your palate, you may end up finding some you really enjoy! Covid precautions: they are limiting the number of people in tasting rooms. The tasting rooms gave plexiglass between servers and visitors. The rooms are large/tall ceilings. We felt like they did a great job here of at least attempting some sort of mitigation strategy. read more

Ahhhhh. This winery was actually the worst winery I have ever been too. We where asked to leave an area WHERE WE PAID to be!!! I asked the staff why we where not aloud to be in that area and she said it was for token holders only. We where token holders. We paid to do a tasting and be in the token holder area. The worker could not explain that. We where rushed out of the tasting because people where waiting. So disrespectful and rude. We are in a group of 18 and will not return or recommend this shitty winery to anyone else. read more
