Hermann, MO has a number of excellent wineries. The Hermannhoff Winery is located in the very walkable section of downtown Hermann. There is a nice shop on the first floor but the basement area is more interesting. It was a brewery at some time in it's history but has been a winery for a number of years now. As wineries go, this wasn't a bad site but there isn't (wasn't) anything that would make me tell someone "be sure not to miss the Hermannhoff Winery. And nothing unique that would make me want to come back. read more

We walked up on this place and were hoping to have a table for us. They had quite a bit of tables and were setting up a band. We ordered a couple wine flights and were very impressed with the options they had for this Missouri winery. We sat and enjoyed our wine and saw they had a self guided tour of the historical part of this winery's. Grabbed a tasting here while in Hermann. First, I definitely feel like, in general, wineries in Hermann are trying to get in and out as fast as possible. Our tasting started this way, but another employee came over in the middle of our tasting, joined the conversation, and made it so much more fun and slowed down the pace of the tasting. I am a dry wine drinker, and I enjoyed a white and they had my favorite bubbles of the weekend. Definitely worth a stop, as it is right down town. read more

We've been going here for years and always enjoy listening to the music. Service is always great but after spending a significant amount of money on bottles to take home, I was told I could not utilize their bathroom and was directed to porta potties across the street. Great wine and better service! The folks leading our wine tasting were awesome! Gave us a couple extra sips and let us taste everything! The wines are moderately priced per bottle but its super cheap ($12) to try all the wines. They have a deli that does a charcuterie plate for $25 and it is delicious. You get to pick your meats and cheese and there are too many great options! The outdoor seating is beautiful and shady. Tons of seating and all in all a great time. Its quite and peaceful outside where you can eat your charcuterie and drink your wine! read more

We went to quite a few wineries in Hermann. It's not that any of them were bad, but when you're going back-to-back like that, it's easy to compare one to the next. Unfortunately, Hermannof was probably my least favorite of all that we visited. When we got there, the staff weren't very inviting. That said, we were pretty loud, so no harm no foul on that. The person giving us our tasting told us that they specialize in dry wines so I was very excited because dry wines are my favorite. They only had two white options, both made with a chardonnay grape. I completely understand having one chardonnay type wine, but that is an acquired taste (not one that I enjoy), so to not have an alternative white was disappointing. The reds were okay. Nothing special. We had had better already that day. We went next door for some food and I had a sandwich that honestly tasted a bit like throw up...probably the sauerkraut but still. Yikes. The lady working the counter was nice at first, but later yelled at the whole dining room to be more quiet...not sure what she expects in a wine town filled with bachelorette parties. The redeeming factor is that the space is beautiful. Great patios and interesting architecture. If you have the opportunity to spend more time at a winery you like rather than checking this one out, that would be my recommendation this time around! read more

We did the wine tasting here and it was great! We did the dry tasting and sweet tasting so the man helping us told us to do all the drys first and then move onto all the sweets. It was nice that they also had oyster crackers to clean your palette in between and chocolate for some of the wines. The man helping us was very informative. They also have a deli inside that you can go and eat at after. They also allow you to drink the wine you just bought there. We got the charcuterie board basket where they let you pick a cheese, meat, apple, and crackers for two! That was awesome as I have never been to a winery that let me customize my charcuterie. Location is also awesome as it is in walking distance to other wineries. We ended up going home with a bottle of the raspberry sweet wine! read more

John C greeted us immediately, he was blowing leaves outside, gave us a wine tasting and told us all about the Hallmark movie and the history of Herman. The are taking Covid precautions and wearing masks which is appreciated. Knowledge tasting and you select 6 to try. They provide oyster crackers between tastes and dark chocolate for the sweet fruit wine. The patio area is beautiful with flowers all around and tables not crowded together. We enjoyed dejecting a cheese, sausage & cracker for a lunch with wine in the patio. A great way to spend an hour our two relaxing. read more

Nice wine tasting they offer a mix of Missouri wine and California wine which is a refreshing change from all the wineries. Prices seemed a tad more expensive for the bottles then the other wineries we have had. Such a cute little winery shop. We went late in the day and had the best service from the two women working the deli and tasting counters. They went out of their way to make sure we knew what was available, when the kitchen was closing, etc. They even had grape juice and chocolate chips for the kids to "taste". So helpful even through the last minute they were open, and helping multiple groups get what they needed before the shop closed up, too. I loved that we were able to sit in the courtyard after close and enjoy the wine. Fantastic place. read more

We went back to this winery twice during our weekend and had a lovely time during both. We first went in for a wine tasting. The lady who did our tasting was great, with lots of attention and conversation. We went back on Monday when most things in the town were shut for the day. We got a picnic that included bread, sausage, cheese and an apple. You can buy wine by the glass. The dining room was warm and inviting! We spend a few hours there playing games, talking with other guests and the lovely worker who was a fellow chiefs fan! She even brought us more wine! After a long dusty ride on the Katy trail we decided to quench our parched throats with some fine Missouri wine at a local establishment in Hermann. We decided to give Hermanhof a go, right off the bat the woman behind the wine bar acted like there was some place else she would rather be. She was short and impatient with us while we were trying to decide what we wanted to try. I ordered an $8.00 beer, my wife ordered a glass of their Chardonelle, a dry white wine. What my received was approximately a 3oz pour for $14, while the wine tasted fine, $14 for 3oz is total highway robbery, and no discount for the rudeness. Was less than impressed with my stop at this winery. The old building is pretty cool but has this awful, old, musty smell as soon as you walk in. The ladies working behind the bar were pretty nice and knowledgeable, but the wine just sort of fell flat for my husband and I. Nothing really stood out as anything special. Hermanhof was super crowded when we were there, but that didn't deter us from wine tasting. Personally I loved the Germantown wine....tastes like grapes right off the vine. Since this place was within walking distance of our B&B, we decided to give it a try. The $4 for 5 samples seemed a bit steep since most area wineries provided free samples, but we decided to give it a go. I had been here two years ago & while sampling was free then for the Missouri-produced wines, the samples we tried this time seems to be higher quality...Anyways, they have a very wide ranges of dry-sweet & white-red wines including several dry Norton varieties that were quite complex. We decided on a Chambourcin, which we purchased (~$15) and took to the back patio overlooking a little stream to enjoy it. A $5/glass deposit was required but we got our cash back when we returned the glasses. We ended up staying on the patio for ~1 hr. Staff came our and exchanges our glasses for plastic cups when it got close to 5pm & they were getting ready to close shop. Unfortunately, the lighting was very lacking on the patio so right after sunset we struggled to find our way off the patio and back to the street - a few path lights would be much appreciated it guests are allowed to stay our there after closing! read more

Easily the prettiest and most eye catching building on the main drag. Loved this little shop. As part of the wine tour we were shown downstairs into their wine cellar, (it wasn't as big as I had hoped, and it was crowded), but we soon got our red wine and our chocolate ganache tarte and cozied up to the long narrow table were we got elbow to elbow with our fellow tasters. The dry wine wasn't quite to my liking, but those around me seemed to be liking it well enough. Next door to the tasting room is a great cheese/deli shop. I spent some time wandering around and spied some of my favorite things: sausage, cheese curds, gourmet mustards, this would be a great place to stock up for a romantic picnic... they've done well with the selection! I noticed a sign pointing you in the direction of the self guided tour, next time we'll be sure to spend a little more time here and sample their other wines. read more

It was Saturday and really busy, but I felt like the service in the tasting room was poor. It took more than 5 minutes for anyone at the bar to recognize that we were interested in a tasting. I'm definitely a fan of Hermannhof. I was there over the weekend for Wurst Fest and it was a lot of fun. They had live music and everyone was drinking and dancing. Tasting over the weekend was 4.00 which we did not partake in because I've tasted at Hermannhof many times. In the past, I'm nearly positive I'd had free tastings but those were during very off times, when we were the only ones in the room (mid week in November, for example). Generally, it's 4.00 a tasting but if you buy a bottle of wine after tasting they will subtract the 4.00 from the price of the wine. Then again, this is small town so the rules change. My favorite wine is the very sweet Germantown which is "a sweet white wine bursting with luscious fruit flavors." Mmm mmm, good! One of my favorites in all of Hermann. It's not quite a dessert wine but close. Btw, the cottages on the hillside look SO wonderful. I really must stay there one day. read more

Took our dog to the patio for an afternoon glass of wine. We ended up getting cheese, bread, and a bottle of wine. The bread was warm and fresh and I always appreciate when there are affordable food options at a winery. The staff was friendly and helpful even coming out to let us know we could bring the dog in (just not in the deli) if we got cold etc. The patio area was really neat and pleasant and the venue looks really cool. My last trip made Hermannhof Winery really grow on me. Although I didn't do the tasting, I decided to check out their evening band. I noticed early during the day that they have a beautiful patio space where they have live music from about 5:30-9:30 PM. The best part: unlike Oak Glenn, there is no cover charge!! Only rule is no outside food, which is totally understandable! We arrived around 7:30 PM and it was pretty packed. Lucky for us, we were able to snag one of the last tables. What I enjoyed a lot about the experience was that they had a live band and a DJ. In other words, they would switch between live music by the band and top 40 hits by the DJ. So great! They also serve wine, beer, and some snacks. I wish they had more of a selection of food (although I bet I could have bought some of their food across the street and brought it over). My sister and I got the pretzel with cheese dip, which was good. We also split a bottle of their strawberry wine. It was only $12 and I thought it was excellent! Very jammy and delicious. I'd highly recommend checking out their live music in the future. read more

Stop by and do a wine tasting when passing through this adorable town. The lady doing the tasting was so knowledgeable about the history and grapes of the region. We enjoyed learning about the Missouri wine history and loved sampling their wines. We purchased a bottle to take to our hotel to sip by the pool at the Elms Hotel. If you want to have a picnic there are tables outside along the river. There was a great store to buy sausages and cheeses at down the street too. Hermanhof would be my favorite winery in/around Hermann if Stone Hill's tour wasn't so good. Wine tastings are $4 for 5 tastings, but they give you real wine glasses to taste out of (major plus in my book) and they give you big pours. I haven't met a Chambourocin I have really liked until here -- loved it. Don't know why I liked it so much more (maybe less spicy), but I thought it was fantastic. The Norton and Seyval Blanc were also pretty good and the girl doing the tasting seemed like she knew what she was talking about. They have a deli where you can grab lunch and sit out on their terrace, which is set among trees and is really pretty. They have a very brief self-guided tour of their cellar which was built in the 1800's which is worth a trip downstairs. Pros: cool cellar, very good Chambourcin, nice tasting experience Cons: deli options are a little limited read more

My favorite of the wineries we visited in Hermann. It was $4 for a tasting of any five of their wines, but our five tastings turned into seven or eight. With all of our group, the two ladies helping us did a good job of identifying what we liked and suggesting something else to taste. In addition, we were a group of seven making four different purchases, and they worked it out so we got the case discount even having to divide it up. When people are helpful and excited to help you find something you want, it makes you much more willing to purchase. Their White Lady was the wine that met the needs of most of our group, so we sat in the outside seating area and drank a couple of bottles. It was super relaxing, near a stream. The sausage and cheese that we tried was also delicious. We came in on Amtrak and started and ended our day at Hermannhof. It was a really excellent choice in both cases. read more

This place is great. Not only can you get locally made sausage and other products, but you can sample these sausages and then order a full meal. On our trip to the store, we were able to talk with the sausage maker, sample his wares (which were all delicious especially the Ruben-style and the apple maple sausages), and purchase these sausages (they were running a great buy 4 get one free special when we were there). They also carry varius wines and beers from the local breweries and vinyards, as well as other meat and dairy products. All the prices were reasonable and the service was top notch. I'll be stopping in for lunch my next time in town. read more

For us, this is the must see winery. The primary reason is the "self-guided" tour of the cellar. It's one of the coolest spots in Hermann, for sure, which arched stone rooms, barrels of wine aging and even a little water trickling through. It's very very damp and dank, so people with asthma might have a hard time here. For everyone else, be sure and take a look downstairs. The grounds out back are very nice as well. As for the wines...pretty decent as Missouri wines go. I hate to repeat this line for all places, but we don't like sweet wines and Missouri dry wines...well, I liken them to chicory coffee - it's an acquired taste we haven't acquired and probably won't as long as the rest of the world keeps cranking out decent wines. Tastings are free. A big plus for the folks of Hermanhof is that the developments they've made in Hermann raise the whole city up a notch or two. They've added or rehabbed several buildings, all of them very beautiful. I can definitley state downtown Hermann would not be as nice a place without the contributions of Hermanhof. Hermannhof is a cute winery and a fun tour to take. However I am not a huge fan of their wines. They stopped making their fruit wines and they had a Cherry which was beyond terrible and when we tasted it the woman just smiled and said "It is bad isn't it?" We agreed and she said, "Wait," and mixed it 50/50 with Sprite and made a spritzer and all of a sudden it was delicious. But alas they no longer make it. I do like their Traminette and their Stagswood Red but that is about it. Their Chambourcin is to acidic, their Norton to oak-y, I am not a fan of their Vignoles, their Port is just okay but a little pricey. Now this is just my opinion and everyone's palate is different and they change over times. I used to hate sweet wines and only drink dry. Now I have started liking the semi-sweets and a few sweet wines. Now their sausages on the other hand are great and I would highly recommend buying them. read more
