Ordered mango slush with boba. They charged me for the boba. It's written on the cup. But guess what they left out? The boba!

This is my third review this place. I had Grilled ( BBQ ) Pork Rice plate at this time. Served with Vietnamese Meatloaf and Shredded Pork Skin. Pork was very flavorful and tender. ( wish get little bit more quantity ) Meatloaf was awesome. Very authentic. (Fried onions was touching ) I haven't eaten this for so long because no place make this in Hilo. Also Shredded Pork Skin was awesome. I really like authentic ( traditional ) way. Never like Americanize food. I always enjoy dine in here and very certified.

The drink was okay but the staff wasn't that friendly or nice. We were in desperate need of charging our phones to get back to our spot on the other side of the island but they refused to let us charge for even like 5+ min of our time being there so we had to hunt for a lightning cable & there was not much around. Good thing our last option (gas station) had a cable otherwise we would be very lost. I understand this place has a right to refuse but a little help & kindness wouldn't hurt. Lesson learned: make sure you bring all your electronic resources.

Love Ding Tea from the mainland, so when they first arrived to Hilo, I was ecstatic! The service here is prompt and friendly, and it's a great hangout spot with board games to play. Unfortunately for me, everything I order here seems to be a misfire, but maybe that is my fault. One of the items (not on the official menu, but on a sign on one of the walls) was strawberry oolong milk tea, and I thought, "Wow, that sounds really cool! I wonder why I haven't seen that before!" And now I know why. The taste was just not right. The smokiness from the oolong combined with the tart strawberry jam resulted in a soapy, almost chemical-like flavor. It was not the business! I'd kindly recommend removing it from the menu! Those flavors are just not meant to be combined. On a more positive note, my boyfriend got the burnt cream mashed tarp drink, which was delicious and blowtorched by hand, which was awesome! The brûlée top was smoky and crackly on the top. And the store is adorable. Honestly, I will still probably come back, because they have so many flavors they offer and I just can't resist.

What a GEM! The monster boba tea was DIVINE! The tapioca pearls were a PERFECT consistency, the brown sugar was rich and comforting, the milk and tea were beautifully balanced and helped offset the sweetness, and most importantly, the drink was COLD! The temperature is a make-it-or-break-it piece of the pie, so if you take a sip and it's warm, stop drinking and start stirring/shaking. It is such a GREAT drink! We're starting strong here! Now on to the banh mi! OMG! I tried all three, and they're all bussin'! They have lemongrass BBQ pork, chicken, and tofu banh mi options, and I LOVED them all! The bread is crispy, hollow, and soft. The proteins are flavored beautifully in a tangy, sweet, sour, and savory sauce/marinade; the pickled veggies add a tart and sweet crunch, the cilantro adds brightness and pepperiness, and the jalapenos add a much-welcomed spice IMO, one of the BEST banh mi spots on the island! When I heard a new boba place opened up, I just had to try it! I love how the boba culture is popping during my time in Hilo. It's located in Downtown next to Ocean's Sushi on Keawe Street. There's only street parking and sometimes, it gets kind of difficult to park during peak hours. I've tried their taro milk tea, oolong milk tea, Hokkaido milk tea, wintermelon milk tea, and some others. Each time, I was unimpressed due either a bit too watery or lack of tea flavor. But most recently I tried their mango milk tea. And surprisingly, this is the first drink I've gotten and liked! It was very unique with a lot of mango flavor (no bits) but also a deep tea flavor which I really liked! I was even gutsy enough to throw in some taro walls with my mango milk tea and surprisingly, it came out really yummy! It wasn't too weird that the flavors didn't mesh well together. I think this is now my to-go drink here! I also tried one of my friend's oolong milk tea at 50% sweetness once, and I loved it! But weirdly, every time I got the oolong milk tea after that, it always tasted watery to me. I guess things always taste better when it's not mine. LOL. I do recommend this place if you want to try some interesting mixes such as strawberry oolong (friend recently got that). Now that I finally found a fav drink after many trials, I will be be back!

Ding Tea Hilo is a very cute shop! I'd been walking around Hilo with my boyfriend and had stopped in a KTA store for some sun relief. Once we left, we'd found Ding Tea Hilo just be walking around. There was a 'People love us on Yelp' sticker outside the door and we had to stop in. Ding Tea Hilo has a really cute interior and even a selfie wall. My boyfriend and I usually get milk tea/fruit tea and least once a week. Upon looking at the member, it felt just like ordering at home. We'd only see clear tapioca pearls here rather than the black tapioca pearls we're used to. My boyfriend didn't care of the clear pearls as much as the black ones he's had before. I'm not a big tapioca pearl fan unless it's in pudding. Ding Tea Hilo has some really wonderful flavors. My boyfriend ended up with the pineapple fruit tea and I got the kiwi fruit tea. If you're looking for something cold while walking around Hilo, this would make for an excellent stop! There are so many flavors and the seating inside is abundant so you could hang out with some friends here too! Loved this find and would recommend it highly!

A BOBA CHAIN IN HILO??! The timing was perfect since I've been away from Hilo for a few years, so coming back to some much needed boba was a blessing in itself! For all my Hilo Yelpers, this review might be slightly biased since I've had mainland boba, so I'll try to be impartial with a fresh perspective. So let's break it down: Setting/Service: Location is in downtown Hilo, right next to Ocean Sushi, so the parking situation is already pretty meh (only street parking). Inside, the place is cute, decorations and wall art definitely add a modern touch to the rest of old downtown. The staff was friendly, even though they look cramped in the little corner that they were working in, but the service was quick! *hint* right next to the pay machine is a 5-star reward program to put your phone number in and earn points, so make sure you use it! Drinks: I ordered the Wintermelon Milk Tea, which is my go-to for milk teas. This location does not allow for sweetness adjustments so it was pretty sweet (usually get less sugar). Additionally, I ordered boba but I guess they didn't hear me, since it wasn't included, but I wasn't charged either, so it was ok! Otherwise, the drink was great! Overall: B Decent boba for a boba-less town! Hilo has definitely needed a boba chain to come to town, so Ding Tea is definitely a great addition. So make sure you check it out! read more

From the Bay Area we have lots of good boba spots. When we got to the Big Island we were craving for some and didn't find any on the Kona side but in Hilo... Ding Tea Hilo is your spot! Really, really enjoyed the Monster boba. Owner informed me he was running out of the Golden boba so he gave me more crystal boba. I did t mind that but the drink itself was delicious! I love caramel and it reminded me of a really good caramel milk tea. It's made of brown sugar. Now I'll have to wait for another trip to the Big Island for another Monster boba. read more

I used to frequent this place a lot prior to Covid as do many of my coworkers. However, today I decided to go there, and the drink I ordered, Blueberry Milk tea with Golden boba tasted like the water they used to make the drink was sitting in the machine for a while, or the machine had not been cleaned. Kinda like when you don't descale your Keurig. So unfortunately, I was very disappointed because I don't even remember them using a machine to make their tea for each drink. But I no longer want to purchase drinks if such is the case. read more

It's been over a year since I first tried this place when they first opened. We decided to check it out today and were pleasently surprised! I got the large mango green tea ($4.55) with aloe vera (my fav topping) and passion fruit popping boba. They have so many more flavor and topping options than Teapresso. We finally got try their new location and it met my expectations! Great service and the staff are very friendly and helpful. My husband and I shared a combo banh mi and a tendon pho and it was sooo ono! The pickled vegetables and there was a type of spread on the banh mi is on point; and the broth of the pho is the best I've had in a very long time. We'll definitely add you to our list of favorites. I've been waiting for hazelnut milk tea for forever and finally Ding Tea is here!!!! Today was my 3rd time to Ding Tea! My second experience here has not left me disappointed. The service was just as friendly, warm, and welcoming as I remember despite these COVID times. Even though the air conditioning was out, the man at the counter stood there patiently as I ordered 9 drinks, and politely directed us to the waiting area in the back... not that we had to wait very long. Less then 10 minutes later, we were on our way back to the car all of our drinks made as ordered. This place has become a favorite of mine, and I'll be making it a point to come back here whenever I come back to the island. read more

I would say that my family and I are a loyal customers here at Ding Tea. We would go there twice a week every week since we love their boba tea so much! Their amazing chewy golden boba separate them from the rest of all the boba places in Hilo. You will not find anywhere else (in Hilo) that has this type of boba. The only reason why I give this place a four stars instead of five is because they close so often without a notice. read more

First time visit and I wasn't disappointed! Wintermelon Green Tea with add on of golden boba was perfect for today and the extra hot sunny weather. The tea had a nice almost roasted flavor with a little sweetness from the boba. I ordered a regular because I wasn't sure how I would like it and ended up wishing I had ordered a large. Overview: Taste: 10/10 Ambiance: 10/10 Customer service: 9/10 Authenticity: 10/10 Authentic boba tea shop! Not expensive( but not cheap...) This was a cute shop that had a different vibe from the rest of Hilo. It was cozy and not fancy: like something out of Japan or Taiwan. Unfortunately, they got one of the orders wrong. Instead of a taro slush, we got a tarp slush with creme brulee top: still delicious(from what I heard;) The boba tea was excellent: I had the boba tea slush. There were GOLDEN BOBA. They glowed with a clear golden glow reminiscent of.... well gold! Glad that Hilo has its own boba tea shop! Just ordered a Thai tea with boba. Brought my mom along and she had the Lilikoi Slush with boba. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our teas on the drive home and the location is right in the heart of downtown, can't miss it! The inside was done so well and picture-perfect for snaps to share with others or on social media. There was only one worker but she was very nice and patient with us as we looked over the menu options. I would have taken pictures but left my phone @ home. Thank you Ding Tea! read more

I am sooooo happy that Ding Tea is opened because with very limited boba shop on this island I found Ding Tea to our shine them all. This is my to go to place now for tea since the other tea place doesn't taste good. I'm on this island for school and when there is school there is stresses. When I get stress I lived off milk tea for energy, so this place will be my new go to! Let's start off by looking at their drink menu, they have a large selections of fresh tea, milk tea and fruit tea. I try the strawberry green tea and the peach yogurt tea. They were both delicious, well flavored! The customer service was great! I was really impressed with the decoration of the shop, very lived and bubbly. I would definitely come back. The only downside is that they don't have a parking lot but there is plenty street parking. read more

My wife got the iced hazelnut milk tea and I got the hot ginger milk tea. Both were great and we had no complaints. Place looked great for indoor dine in too. They had board games to play in there too. read more

We always stopping by Ding Tea everytime we visit Hilo from Oahu. Hokkaido milk tea is my favorite, it reminds me of the milk candies I had in Japan. My friend loves coffee milk tea. The owner is very friendly. Glad he remembered us few days ago! read more

Very friendly staff and great drinks! I tried the Hokkaido milk tea, brown sugar milk tea, and the taro milk tea and they are all suuuuuper good! I would definitely recommend this boba shop to everyone. It's super cute and all around great environment to be in. The walls are painted very beautifully and the shop is well decorated. My family and I love it here. We definitely come here very often. :) I am overall very impressed with how great this boba shop is & I'm glad Hilo finally has a boba shop that is as inviting as Ding Tea! :) read more

This is by far the best bubble tea I've had, hands down. It was so good that I wish they had a larger size! I got the Monster. They have a wide variety of drinks to choose from, and toppings to add if you'd like. The atmosphere was positive and radiant. It was clean on the inside. They have fun signage that patrons can take pictures with if they'd like. I will be going back here again. read more

Just went at 5:26pm and they were closed! So sad!! It says that they are open 10:30am-7pm everyday except Sunday online and on their window. It would've been great if they posted about it or said that they were closed on Yelp because we drove all the way from Kailua-Kona for Ding Tea! We love Ding Tea by Disney in Anaheim and were super excited to hear that one opened out here. Next time, I will call ahead to make sure that they are open before I drive super far! read more

Coming from NorCal and being avid boba lovers, we found this place around town and decided to give it a try. They had quite a huge variety of teas and toppings available on their menu. I was mildly surprised to see some uncommon popping boba toppings that I have never seen in the bay area either- so I gave those a try and really enjoyed it. read more

Hands down the BEST boba around!! The parking here can be a bit difficult because it's roadside parking but that doesn't stop us from coming back. They have great customer service and they always make us feel welcome. The honey milk tea with golden boba and strawberry yogurt drink is my favorite, but the drink called monster (flavor) is amazing. read more

Sooo much flavors to choose from. Such a trendy looking shop and the color patterns are loud and playful. They have a lot of seating. The drinks were the right amount of sweetness and it wasn't overloaded with ice as most places do. The boba pearls were perfect and the service was fast! It's very good but every time we order they get our order wrong 90% of the time and the guy gets frustrated bc their staff got it wrong. Checking your order doesn't help if the cashier tells you the wrong info. Hope to keep coming here bc it is v good just service is frustrating and annoying. read more

We come every so often if we're craving something sweet. I like they have such a vast menu and lots…read moreof different specials or "secret menu" items. The drinks are all pretty sweet so we usually reduce the sugar by 50% or more. The down side is that the sugar is usually pre-mixed with the tea or flavoring, so if you reduce the sugar you also reduce the amount of flavor. This time around, I got a Christmas special drink -- a blended peppermint matcha -- and decided to try it without reducing the sugar since it would have reduced the amount of peppermint in the drink. It was almost sickeningly sweet and I wasn't able to finish my drink. If you really like things on the sweet side or if you essentially want dessert in a cup, then this is the place to go. We prefer to taste the tea flavor with more mild sweetness, so it's usually not our first choice for boba or tea drinks.
