Kiss my Grits
Shakira R.

We stumbled upon Thumbs Up on our first full day in East Point. We ordered: * Ultimate Seaside - The fried Swai/catfish was over 9 inches long, extending the entire length of the plate. It includes 1/2 portion of the Sassy scramble - which has onions, fresh herbs, salmon, and cream cheese. It was creamy and flavorable - my hubby wasn't a fan - but I loved it. It also came with a small shrimp and grits - a bit of spicy broth with shrimp and smooth grits. * Kiss my Grits - The bowl of the smoothest cheese grits with the best chopped chicken sausage I've ever had. The sauteed onions were a bit much and light fluffy scrambled eggs. *Side of potatoes - which came with green peppers and onions - I wished they were more integrated and instead of just laying on top of the potatoes. The portions were generous and I had leftovers to eat the next day.

Build Your Own Omelette and Whole Grain Biscuit with strawberry jam.

Thumbs Up Diner in East Point is on point! My friend and I were staying in the area on a business trip and had a breakfast meeting planned. My friend searched for a local restaurant with good reviews and found Thumbs Up. It was the right choice! The building is older, but the interior is nice, well kept and clean. Everything was delicious. I ordered a Build Your Own Omelette with grits (not pictured) and whole grain biscuit. Whole grain biscuit? I had never heard of such a thing. It was great, especially with the strawberry jam that accompanied it. The two other guys with me raved about their food, especially the perfectly seasoned Chicken Tenders. The grits were on point. The service was excellent and the lady who took care of us was friendly. Thumbs Up is definitely worth giving an opportunity.

Close up of chipped China

Food Excellent Service Excellent Price Reasonable But the cracked China, I was extremely disappointed. The plate my food was served on was cracked/chipped in two places... Not only were they sharp enough to cut me, breaking off chips could possibly land in my food. The manager said they told the owners, but they refused to spend extra money on replacing plates. The manager then went on to say, the staff pooled their tips together to buy a few new plates at a time. Unacceptable

The Tuesday cook CANNOT be the same the Saturday cook! After talking this spot up all last week, the letdown can't be overstated enough! We ordered two of the Low Country Heaps and another create your own breakfast skillet. Usually the food, especially the potatoes, are seasoned to the gods! Today, it was just like they threw everything in the skillet, sprinkled hot sauce on my Low Country Heap and called it breakfast. Three separate entrees, same common response...NO SEASONING! On the other hand, our waitress Dashia C was a whole vibe! Very informative, very attentive and very heart warming. I'm sure we'll be back, however, probably on the weekends, just to be on the safe side! Oh yeah, and make sure you try the peppermint tea!

Catfish breakfast with regular grits

This is my usual Thumbs Up location and I'm the biggest Stan for the catfish breakfast. So when me and my husband made a plan to sneak out to breakfast alone midweek, it was EASY to choose this as our destination. Unfortunately, for the first time, the food was just okay. The fish wasn't seasoned as well as normal, the cheese grits were so packed with cheese they were almost stiff and I could barely taste the grit portion of the dish. It was all just fine rather than the normal "woo! Such a good choice!" Anyhoo, I'll definitely come back. The service is friendly and the prices are good. The inside is a little worn down in terms of furniture and decor, but it has been that way as long as I've been coming here.

Taste: 5/5 Value: 5/5 Ambiance: 4/5 What a great spot to enjoy a tasty breakfast! Thumbs up Diner has a large menu full of delicious southern cooking items. They have generous portions at a great price. Everything we tried was really tasty and served to us quickly. If I'm ever in the area again, I'll 100% revisit!

The Ultimate Seaside Breakfast!

Now THIS place? Is AAAAAAMMMAAAAZZZING!! Absolutely fantastic service from the moment I walked through the door. No wonder they have over 3,000 favorable reviews! I was immediately greeted with a smile and told I could sit wherever I pleased. I was promptly asked what I'd like to drink. I ordered the hot chocolate with whipped cream. It was one of the best that I've had in Georgia. I asked for a menu and my waitress (named "Lite") informed me that they use QR codes and pointed to a small plaque on the table. While perusing the menu, I scanned the area. It's very "old school charm". Exposed brick walls, a wave wrap around counter, concrete floors and an exposed roof giving it a loft feel. I loved the old school stools as well. I thought someone might scoot up to me on roller skates! To say that my waitress was "attentive" would be an understatement. She was perfect and very professional yet casual at the same time. I ordered the "Ultimate Seaside Breakfast". Which.....man.....this was THE best breakfast I've had since I've lived in Atlanta and I've been here 4 1/2 years now. The shrimp and grits 5/5, the omelette 5/5, ordinarily I do NOT like anything fried but chicken but decided to still have the fried catfish that came with the ensemble. Well, I'm definitely a fan now and will be back. I have a new GOAT here in the A! Thanks again Lite!

Service was excellent, very friendly, the server knew the menu and was helpful Ambiance was the same as it always is, clean, hard working staff Food was great, no undersized portions here. Now here is my beef- the administration fee Damnit I really hate this

Catfish, biscuit, scrambled eggs, grits
Nicole W.

Food was great! ESPECIALLY the catfish. The only thing I didn't enjoy were the potatoes as they were dry. The servers were all so kind. There is a bit of a wait to get your food, but the wait is well worth it. Just note, they add an 18-20% service charge with a table of 4+. You can't beat the food prices though! I can't wait to return to ATL just to go back for the Catfish.

Low Country Heap with biscuit.

First stop on our trip from NY. Started us off right. Ohh My Goodness : the biscuit. Never had better. The Low Country heap has just enough kick. Scrambled eggs are perfect. Sweet tea is smooth. Great ambience, clean, fast service on a Saturday at 11:00. Highly recommend.

We were greeted immediately upon arrival, but service was a bit slow, took about 10 minutes to get our drink order in, and coffee arrived another 5 minutes later. Our group of two adults and three kids totaled around $125, with an automatic gratuity added due to our party size (which is something to keep in mind if you're dining with a group). One downside--there's no kids' menu, so the price can add up quickly if you're ordering full meals for little ones. Food: 8/10 The highlight of the meal was definitely the biscuit and fried catfish both were well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The rest of the food was solid, but nothing that completely blew us away. Atmosphere & Logistics: The diner is small and quaint, which adds to its charm, but parking is limited, so plan accordingly if you're coming during peak hours. Overall, it's a good spot for a casual meal, and while service could be a bit quicker, the food and cozy vibe make up for it. Would return, but probably wouldn't bring a large group again.

Chicken wings and waffles
Dennette S.

We arrived on the suggestion from the rental car person, it was noon but we were still looking for breakfast. Perfect place, because they serve breakfast all day along with other items We ordered the chicken wings, waffle and eggs. The chicken wings had a Smokey with a touch of pepper taste we loved them. The inside is a diner style, very clean and comfortable. Parking out front They were very quick to take the order and the kitchen staff were fast to prepare it. Everything came out hot and delicious. A nice touch was the syrup was also warm. Loved that!

OMG! Look at hot chocolate!!

*SENT THIS TO THE BUSINESS INBOX 8/31/25. NO RESPONSE SO I AM POSTING IT HERE*…read more I got to your establishment shortly after placing my name on the waitlist. I followed the on-screen instructions to check in with the host upon arrival. I walked in a packed, very hot restaurant (later learned that the A/C was broken) and explained to the hostess that I was on the waitlist and she was extremely rude, dismissive, and unwelcoming and kept telling us "we aren't taking reservations right now" - I reiterated I didn't have a reservation but an active waitlist spot through the yelp app. She rudely asked for my name I gave it to her even spelled it out for her after she acted like she didn't hear me. She didn't even check her computer for my name, she flapped her huge blue-colored eyelashes and just said "well we aren't taking reservations" ... so after that I'm upset and my boyfriend asked to stand at the bar at a seat behind her. She says "you can order a drink from right there" but little did she know that my boyfriend knows the owner personally who frequents his bar that he works at each week. So he was going to let him know about the hostess and her rude service, but instead I said forget it and we left. We ended up going to Noveau a block away and was seated immediately, it was a complete 180 as far as environment and service. We ate and left, I checked the waitlist I was still on and it said I was 4th place in line. I drove all the way from Brookhaven to be talked to like I did something wrong when all I did was join a waitlist on yelp and check in as instructed. As a Black business owner myself I took this encounter very personally, as everyone else in front of us was being helped but us. Your hostesses are supposed to be the face of your business and this one was not it. This put such a bad taste in my mouth that I told my boyfriend that I will never return here and to make sure to let the owner know about this experience when he sees him. This is probably not the only complaint that this restaurant has received about this individual, and because of her, Noveau down the block now has a new loyal customer now. I see why our own people find it hard to support other black-owned businesses because you have people like her representing your business and treating us like we owe them something for trying to come in and spend money in your establishment. Then I later learned that she's actually a "family member" representing this business acting like that. I understand that you were operating that day with no A/C and no plumbing (ew) but don't take it out on people who showed up to support your business...again and again. Sad and ridiculous. Signed, byyyeeee never again.

We had to make a decision quickly when we were pivoting, and when we came across the great reviews and photos of the food. we didn't think twice about checking to see if we could make it happen. When we arrived, the staff was already preparing our table, so we only had to wait a few minutes before being seated. The space is pretty tight, and you're going to be close to the tables near you, but we were able to sit comfortably. Our server came over quickly to take our drink orders, and afterward she came back to answer any questions. Most of the food was ready at the same time. We appreciated that it came out as it was ready and wasn't left sitting. And everyone enjoyed the food! The only "complaint" one of my friends had was that she thought there was a little too much sauce in her shrimp and grits dish. She felt that the sauce, while it tasted great, overpowered the dish and she would've liked to taste more of the grits flavor. All in all, I'd say we'll likely be back to try something else on the menu.

He was so nice, knew the menu, made recommendations, and kept a check on me. I found that all the staff helped each other, if water got low, another staffer filled it, plates got empty, someone different may take them away. Everyone was really nice. Now let's get into the drinks and food.... Mimosa(peach) perfectly mixed. The gumbo was recommended and it was good, it had nice size shrimp. The calamari was really good also. For my entree, I had the Shrimp cescer salad, it was delicious... even after finishing it up later that evening because I was so full. I could and would recommend checking them out for sure.

The dining room can get loud if all the tables. Full bar / wine serving Cajun style with a "Atlantean" flair. Service: 5 stars Rarely do I give a 5 star rating for a server but our server was exceptional. He was polite, friendly, helpful and was very attentive. He mentioned some recommendations and as a foodie himself, he made a couple recommendations. Food: 4-4.4 stars Shrimp Po-Boy: 4 Stars for the Po-Boy due to amount of shrimp, though they were larger than normal. The shrimp was seasoned and lightly breaded. However, the bread was wonderful. Light, airy, flaky and had the right amount of crunch to it. The creole sauce was good but the Po-Boy needed some additional hot sauce. The perfectly cooked fries were AWESOME! Highly recommend to get a side if your entree doesn't come with it. Lightly salted with hint of other seasoning and herbs and had the right amount of chew and crunch to them. Also, I believe the oil they use was a better quality than normal. Blacken Mahi-Mahi- 5 Stars The grilled blackened fish has the perfect on of Creole seasoning and was topped with a house-made Chimichurri Sauce and possibly honey. Served with seasonally roasted root vegetables. My wife loved it so much the plate was practically cleaned! LOL! Dessert Beignet - 3.75 Stars By our server's recommendation we ordered a serving of 3 beignets w Pecan Praline Caramel sauce. The beignets were hot and fresh and had a "snowy" amount of powdered sugar. It was covered with goodness. When we bit into them, they were light, airy and had a bit of a chew to them. My wife likes them more than Cafe Du Monde but I thought the dough had more chewiness to them. The Praline sauce was ok. Also, the sauce is extra $3.50. NOTE: Do not order a carton of water - Cost $5. Wasn't worth it. Get regular water. If we were staying another day, we would definitely come back. I highly recommend the place. Also, the have another located situated in downtown Atlanta. But I suggest to stop by at the OG place in College Park. Small time atmosphere with great food! Enjoy!
