Cool place. They have a great beer selection for those of us who don't care for cider. Wish they would do more with their whiskeys for cocktails. An awesome spot in the North Side, definitely a diamond in the rough. The building itself is really cool, very spacious, modern and the decor is nice as well. I had one of the cider flights (probably the best deal cider-wise) and they were all pretty good, my favorite was the "Wild Cider". They also had some beer and cocktails if cider is not your thing. They have a decent food menu as well, mostly just platters and pizzas with some other miscellaneous things. The meat platter was excellent. I had the roasted apple pizza which was very good. Prices are very reasonable. I would try to eat all your pizza and not take home any leftovers for two reasons, the first being that they strangely use Chinese takeout boxes if you want to take something home (so weird for pizza) and the second is that the pizza is definitely not as good reheated. Great atmosphere and great cider, but nothing for those expecting a meal. The owners of Wigle Whiskey broadened their horizons by introducing a ciderhouse with a real barn-like feel. The building has ample parking (approx. 25 spaces in a parking lot) and additional street parking plus a handicapped entrance. When you enter, you are transported to a hispter's wet dream, with exposed beams, rustic charm, humming electronic displays and enough open space to house a small Nicaraguan village. There is seating for about 40 people with options ranging from raised tables, long bench seating and bar stools. A small shop offers nearby specialties and some of Wigle's finest goods, including liter bottles of cider to take home for $18. Onto the restaurant. The ciderhouse offers tastings in their tasting room, though we didn't look into that. We wanted a drink and some food. Upon looking at the menu, they had four ciders (though one of them was out) that I got in a flight. They also offered a variety of cocktails, including cider based ones, which were actually delicious. As a place to go for a few drinks, this is one of Wigle's better establishments. With food, I was disappointed. The appetizers were items like a cheese board or a meat board that felt a little overpriced and underperformed. The entrees included pizza. That's it. Pizza. So naturally, that's what I ordered. It was good pizza. Wood fired, expansive options, good variety, and certaintly tasty. They aren't large pizzas, and I've certainly had better, but it was pizza and it's hard to screw that up. In the end, we were happy with the trip and had a nice relaxing date with some good drinks and a little bite to eat. However, we proceeded to go home and make dinner because some drinks and a small pizza just didn't do it for us. Threadbare Cider House has great cider, service, and ambiance. They have really amazing events that have always left me impressed and happy to have attended. This weekend I attended a home brew event and tried maybe 15 different, delicious home brews. We left the event and ordered pizza. I've been here a bunch of times. Threadbare ciders are pretty much all I want to drink anymore, which is weird because before coming here, I was not all that into A. cider, or B. Wigle spirits, which is their sister company. But the ciders here are complex and interesting and not, for the most part, sweet and syrupy but more like spicy and cool and a little weird in a good way. The pizzas are very delicious also. And the Threadbare folks are great about hosting events - I planned a funny little letter-writing party here and they were super helpful and accommodating. This place is absolutely adorable inside! Lots of things to do for all ages including a super cute extra large lite brite that I was in love with. We did a cider flight and then whole glasses of several of the seasonals. Everything we tried was absolutely phenomenal and nothing was overly sweet and processed tasting like so many ciders on the market now. Very good ciders! I tried two different flights. And the mead was nice too. (I am A home brewer of 20 years, so I know...) Good yet simple menu and nice atmosphere. Calling all cider fans-this is the place to go. I love their cider and the restaurant is a great place to take the entire family. They have plenty of parking, a decent size bar, and good amount of large tables with a kids play area. My son loved the light bright board. They offer kid friendly tours and lots of special events so check out their website for event info. There are so many cider options it is hard to pick. You can also go for a sample size and I highly recommend the prepicked samplers they have where you get four 5oz samples for $10. I went with the adventure sampler which came with a cherry cider that was fantastic. The menu is limited with a few apps, pizzas and desserts to choose from. We went with a Cesar salad and pork pizza. The salad was very fresh (I think they grow their own lettuce) and the pizza dough is amazing. It was enough to split between my husband and I. We of course saved room for dessert and went with the apple cider donut cake served with vanilla ice cream. The cake was on the dry side so I was a bit disappointed. Next time we will try their brownie dessert. Can't wait to go back and try more pizzas and cider. read more

Everything tasted great, ciders were good. The only problem was the service. We gave ourselves an hour for dinner. After waiting for close to 15 minutes we got to put our drink and appetizer orders in. After that we waited close to a half hour before the server came back, she did apologize and said the lack of service was due to a new system in place. Popped into Threadbare for a late lunch/brunch after a suggestion from a friend. We were so pleasantly surprised as soon as we opened the doors. Such a warm and inviting environment. I had the guava cider and shared a pepperoni pizza with my boyfriend. Both were really delicious. I think the real star of the show here is the hospitality and service. I was looking for a restaurant with outdoor seating due to the Covid 19 mandate and a friend recommended Threadbare. I am so glad that I followed her suggestion. We had a delicious appetizer of pickled veggies, split a pizza, and had unique and yummy cocktails. It was a great experience and I cannot wait to return. As a bonus, the patio is also dog friendly. A group of us went on Saturday around 5pm. As non-native Pittsburghers it was a little hard to find at first, but thankfully there is a huge parking lot. My husband and I each ordered one of the cocktails, but there was a mistake and the server brought him a cider instead. It was very loud inside and she offered to get him another, but he just kept the cider. We had other issues with servers getting confused with drinks, which may have been the noise level or because it didn't seem like tables were assigned to specific servers. Otherwise, everything was really wonderful! We had the pickle plate and the cheese plate and enjoyed both. We also tried a few of the ciders and cocktails, all of which were really great! I live in the Spring Garden area so I'm always excited when new businesses come around. I also love cider and Threadbare does not disappoint in that department! They do it very well and have a great variety of ciders. I love the vibe of the place as well. The aesthetics are really nice and the indoor space is open and inviting. All the staff are awesome. I attended a tour of the cider warehouse and it was super informative and included lots of yummy samples. I've also been here for events which are always fun. They have a good outdoor area that is dog friendly. I came for a friend's birthday where they rented the outdoor tent. I believe threadbare provided the food for it...it was AMAZING. My only complaint is that I wish they offered a spread like that on their regular menu. The pizza is a little over priced for what it is and I would love to see more of a variety there. read more

We went to Threadbare for a group event with 20 people. We set it up with two month notice and they were super accommodating. For food, we got a variety of pizzas and ordered a variety of bottles of cider. Staff was awesome describing the different cider varieties and bringing the pizzas out at a great pace to keep everyone going. Favorite pizza was the mushroom but they were all awesome. Favorite bottled cider was the farmhouse (favorite by the glass was Laphroaig-esque super-smoky cider). Definitely do the tour if you can!! read more

Let me start out by saying the pizza was good. There is an awesome little play area for the kids with a huge wall light brite, legos, puzzles etc. between the pizza and the kids atmosphere it was a 5! Now on to the reasons that I am giving this a 2... 1. Our original server was the most miserable person I have run into in a long time. I had to go to the bar to ask if we had a server. She gave me attitude then came to our table a few mins later to take our order. When my husband asked What some of the favorite ciders were she said "they are all equally popular"...no guidance what so ever. 2. She then brought us 3 plates for the 4 of uss and when I asked for a 4th plate she basically tossed me one while she was standing behind the bar. 3. Not being a cider person I thought it was weird that my husbands drink was cold but mine was room temp. It was ok....when the second much more personable server showed up I asked her about it. Her reply was "Oh it's supposed to be cold but that was a from a bottle that has been ssitting out, I'm sorry". It was room temp and nothing else was done about it In conclusion I hate that such extremely poor customer service ruined our experience. read more

Finally made it to the Mozzarella class! Had a great time. Arrived early for class and spend 45 minutes with Abby at the bar. She was very knowledgeable about the cider and the other beverages. I started with the sampling flight of cider and, based on my preferences, provided suggestions and samples of other ciders. Made cheese and biscuits with Elise and her team. They were informative and very very efficient with the processes and the cleanup and restocking of supplies for each group. Snacks from the menu were provided and were delicious. Aaron was our guide for the facility tour during supply re-stocking. He provided lots of interesting background on the Johnny Appleseed story, the history of the building and info about the cider making process. Most interesting was the difference between their sweeter ciders and residual sugar content as compared to the mass produced cider beverages that have added sugar/sweeteners. Good spot for the whole family - we went with 3 generations. They have a great selection of ciders all made in house. They are all very unique and interesting. I went to threadbare with high hopes on a Saturday night, only to be extremely disappointed. When we first arrived as a party of two we were ready to stand at the bar to wait for a table to open up. We ordered a flight, which leads me to my first complaint; the bar tender was aware that they were out of one of the ciders that were a part of the pre-set flight and rather than asking which cider I would prefer, gave me something that I never would would have ordered (guava cider). While waiting, the bartender told us to grab whatever table came up next because it was first come, first serve, and when we sat at a table when a party left one of the waitresses came running over and made us get up because she said she promised it to someone else. So against our better judgement we waited and saw a table that we could share with two other couples that hadn't been cleaned in about 20 minutes. We decided to go sit to claim a seat and asked the waitress to clean the spot, which seemed to annoy her. About 40 minutes after we had ordered, we asked the waitress if she knew about when our food would be ready, and when she told us at least 30 minutes we decided to leave. We hadn't enjoyed any of the 10 ciders (between 2 flights and 2 regular sized drinks) we had ordered and we were too hungry to wait over an hour for food, after being there for nearly 2 hours total. Maybe this place is okay during off times service wise, but I would not recommend!! read more
