I have my 90 year old father down here for the month and he keeps bugging me to go to happy hours...who am I not to oblige... I figured he will like the old clubby atmosphere of Thoroughbreds plus they have great wine and an excellent burger. We got there a few minutes before 4:30 and waited in the car until they opened up. Now I haven't been here in a few years, but it looked exactly the same... bar to the left as you come in, with multiple dining rooms scattered throughout, some with a fireplace some without, all of it projecting private club with a southern flair. It's decorated well. We sidled up to the bar, where we were the first two patrons there and sat at the end. The bartender was attentive and quickly came over with menus and asking for a drink order. I ordered my father a nice glass of Pinot Noir and a seltzer water for myself and then quickly began reading the menu. Thoroughbreds has a happy hour menu that is served at the bar and a more extensive full menu served at the bar and in the dining rooms. I settled on the burger with fries for my father, with no cheese or other accoutrements that is always served on a pretzel bun. It comes with Gruyère cheese, lettuce, tomato and onion...that's the way I usually get it, but my father being 90 is set in his ways. I decided on an appetizer of escargot and the main course of elk chops cooked medium and served with broccolini and mashed potatoes. After a while(and another glass of wine for my father) the escargot came out with some hot bread and infused butter. The escargot was tender and flavorful with hints of garlic and parsley in a rich butter sauce. The bread was a good choice to dip into the plate. A few moments later, my father's burger came out, cooked to perfection with crispy shoestring fries that were moist and tasty in the middle. The happy hour version of the elk chops consisted of two. They were served crusted over the broccolini with a nice moundful of herb infused mashed potatoes. The elk chops were delicious and tender, and the broccolini and potatoes were seasoned to perfection. By the time we were done, the bar was full and people were having a great time eating and drinking. I looked over at my father and I could tell it was time to go so we headed out the door and drove back to our condo in North Myrtle Beach . Overall, I find Thoroughbreds an excellent upscale dining experience with friendly and professional waitstaff in a club like atmosphere that serves great steaks and chops. read more

We enjoyed a meal here for our anniversary on a Saturday evening. It was perfect from the moment we walked in until we left. Service was incredible! Our glasses were constantly filled. I ordered sweet tea and it wasn't quite to my liking--my server offered to fix it and make it perfect sweet tea. It was genuinely sweet! We were impressed with the decor--it felt very cozy and we were delighted by the comfort. For dinner, we started with the escargot appetizer. It was a new dish for both of us but we were happy with it. They also brought some delicious bread with an herbed butter. The bread was wonderful. For our main dish, we did the chateaubriand for two. It was finished table side and was a very cool experience. It came with mushrooms, asparagus. And mashed potatoes. I'm not big on mushrooms but these were incredible! I loved the flavor and the texture was so creamy. My husband loved the mashed potatoes. Dessert was spectacular! We couldn't decide on dessert and our server directed us to the Kentucky Derby Pie. I would come back here for this dessert alone. Chocolate desserts are not my husband's favorite but he absolutely loved it. It's got a bit of everything--chocolate, pecans, caramel, ice cream. 10/10! My husband and I made reservations for our 5th year wedding anniversary and this place did not disappoint. When we arrived, they had little heart confetti on the table along with a nice little card wishing us a happy anniversary. Our wait staff was absolutely fantastic, continuously wished us a happy anniversary and were extremely attentive and professional. We ordered the table side Caesar salad--the waitress knocked it out of the park and explained what she was doing as she went. It was ALOT of salad for 2 but worth the price and so delicious. We also ordered the table side chateaubriand for two which came with asparagus, sautéed mushrooms and mashed potatoes. I will say--the asparagus was quite large, so it didn't cook much and was very fibrous and tough to chew. However all of the other elements were FANTASTIC. We also ordered the table side bananas foster, which to no surprise was amazing. Overall-I would suggest this establishment to anyone who is interested in an elegant or romantic dinner. Everything was great. We have passed this place a million times and talked about trying it one day. After tonight we realized we waited too long! The service was great. Their wine list is very good and prices are reasonable. Never imagined they would have Molly Dooker Velvet Glove. The table side Caesar salad was so good. My wife had the swordfish (catch of the day) and she loved it. I had the Australian F9 wagyu steak and asparagus. It was one of the best steaks I've had in a long time. Dessert was fabulous. My family and I booked a reservation for Thanksgiving despite reading previous years reviews. The restaurant itself has charm but some rooms are carpeted with large tables in the middle and it very awkward sitting in the row of tables down the middle. At times, it seems anyone can hear your conversation. As for service, although there was quite the initial wait for the server, he was friendly. I enjoyed the menu offerings and we all had the filet over the turkey. All filets were ordered the same, medium, and they all came out drastically different with some being undercooked and all unevenly cooked. The flavor was also lacking and the green beans were crisp as can be, hardly cooked. We also ordered the desserts to go and were given incorrect desserts. For the price point at this establishment, the quality is not there. We took our food to go and ended up having to doctor and season and finish cooking at home. read more

This is the best "fine dining" experience we've had in the Grand Stand. The ambiance is tasteful and roomy, you do not feel crowded. Our sever is what you expect in a true fine dining establishment, attentive, understated, knowledgeable. I had the elk chops and my wife rainbow trout - both were perfect, they could not have been any better. We have lived here five years and have been disappointed in other "fine dining" experiences, but Thoroughbreds met every expectation and we look forward to returning. While the website says "smart casual," some folks were dressed a bit below that - just in case you are wondering - after all this is a resort area. For us, dressing up just a bit goes with the experience. Thoroughbreds would fit nicely in culinary scenes such as Boston, Baltimore, and D.C. read more

I ate at Thoroughbreds with three buddies Saturday night. This wasn't my first visit. The service is generally good and they have a very good bourbon selection, but the pours are meager. I love Prime Rib. Anytime I dine at a steakhouse, if they have Prime Rib on the menu, I order it. So I ordered it last night, medium rare and unfortunately it was a terrible cut. Lots of sinew and gristle. I was unable to cut thru the center of the steak, with a steak knife. I managed to get a couple of chewable bites around the edges, but I left at least 2/3rds of the steak on my plate because it was inedible. Come with me on a magical birthday experience! First, my boyfriend contacted the restaurant and informed them that it was my birthday so when we arrived, the hostess immediately wished me happy birthday and led us to the most intimate and beautiful setting. Thank You! Next, our waitress Karen came over and wished me happy birthday and provided us with quality service from start to end. Drinks: I no longer wish to drink a lemon drop from anywhere other than this restaurant. This was a freshly squeezed lemon drop and the alcohol balance was perfect! Appetizers: thanks to Yelp, I checked in to dinner and was provided with a free appetizer or dessert. I decided on the appetizer and boy was I pleased with my selection. The dish was called "Angels on Horseback" and to provide context, the dish consisted of "three sea scallops wrapped in applewood-smoked bacon, vegetable puree, bacon-bourbon glaze"- menu description. This dish was SO juicy, flavorful, and satisfying. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the bacon almost seeped through the scallops, adding a sweet, savory flavor to the dish. It was shareable as the portions were huge so feel free to share with someone special. I rate this a solid 10 forks and a smile! Entree: for my main course I ordered the Pan-Seared Sea bass. Menu description "Purple and golden beet purees, garlic spinach, celery root, baby pear gastrique" This was the BEST sea bass I've had in a while and here is why, the sea bass was perfect! Juicy, well seasoned, topped with a crispy layer and surrounded by complimenting items. The garlic spinach-sautéed to perfection! The celery root, baby pear, and purple and golden beet were all magical! This was the kind of dish that you had to chew slowly and enjoy. It's no surprise here, I rate this dish 10 forks, 10 knives, and a happy tummy smile! Dessert: unexpected but so thoughtful! The restaurant surprised me with a delicious and creamy cheesecake at the end and I fought back tears at this beautiful surprise. Overall, I had a very pleasant birthday dining experience. Upon receiving our pork we sent them back to be cooked more after taking a bite I could feel the pig oink in my mouth. For a 50 dollar pork chop that wasn't even cooked I could have got a whole pig just for myself and done it wayyyy better! If you're planning to be throughly disappointed while spending over $200 then I recommend going to this terrible restaurant. There is a special menu from 4:00 to 6:30 PM that is 3 courses for $60-but you have to ask for it after they show you the actual menu!!!! for this I have given them four stars . Last night, my wife and I went to Thoroughbreds for dinner and it was an amazing experience. Our waiter hunt was a great young man allowed us to take our time looking at the menu brought us our appetizers then our salad nothing was rushed. It was perfect and to make it even better. The manager came up to check on us and say hi and made everything special. From the hostess to the waiting staff the management and the chef is incredible. I had the bluefin appetizer which is by far the best I've had anywhere in South Carolina. My wife got the Sea bass, which was incredible. I ended up getting lobster tails and steak and as always unbelievable. The bluefin tuna was so good. Followed it up with crème brûlée and in house made Key-lime cheesecake! We got an order to go for my daughter. When She got home she took it right out of the fridge and ate it all gone. read more

The waiting staff was VERY professional and very courteous. Best service in a dine in restaurant I've had in a hot minute. The food was very good and rich. My only complaint of anything would be that the margarita I got was not mixed well. That said, they did NOT skimp on liquor. So I'm not too upset about it. Overall, this was a joy to participate in and I really enjoyed the whole establishment. Major props to the waiting staff though. Steak was good but not great. The sauce way too peppery, and I love a lot of pepper-- the sauce could have used a nice splash of cream to cut the overwhelming black pepper! Lisa T was our server and she was very knowledgeable and kept us laughing. On this particular night the special steak was a 20 oz bone in ribeye. Went to celebrate my wife's bday and their place hit everything out of the park. Inside is perfect, great pictures, seating areas are comfy and different areas made it seem like we were there with a few others only even though they were pretty full. We wanted to experience the full meal service, so we started with oysters on the half shell. And we were not disappointed perfect way to start. We then split a Caesar salad as we wanted room for the whole meal. Dinner specials were amazing, filet and lobster tail with a side of risotto and Cajun ribeye with scallops and shrimp skewer. Wife ordered black and blu and it was cooked to absolute perfection. Finished dinner and the restaurant brought out a birthday desert brownie and white chocolate. On vacation with Zvck in Myrtle Beach and I was treated to an excellent birthday dinner at Thoroughbreds Chop House (nice surprise by son one and 74 thanks guys). We were greeted with a warm welcome by our hostess and led in to a dark wood interior with equestrian pictures and memorabilia with a nice bar and dining area. Our waitress was busy but she did a phenomenal job and made us feel like we were the only ones in the place. We opted for the porterhouse for two (they had only one left),an order of fried calamari and a couple of dinner salads. The calamari was as good as ive had anywhere. Perfectly fried in a light batter that highlighted the flavor of the squid. it was not rubbery at all. A+. The steak was huge and came with jumbo shrimp in garlic butter. I didnt think we would finish it but we were gnawing on the bone by the end. Great steak cooked just right as tender and flavorful as any ive had. Just for good measure the cheesecake and coffee for dessert were on point. Thoroughbreds is a first rate classic steak house and a must try if you are in the MB area. read more

Very overpriced for what you get, the food here is decent(only decent)but not worth what they ask, I've been to wolf gang puck restaurants and paid less for better quality food, me and my wife paid $237 for dinner and drinks and it was no where near what I expected the quality was gonna be, would not go here again, it's a mediocre steak house charging what a 5 star restaurant would charge, everything else was amazing though, the waitress was awesome read more
