Ok it's not a place I would bring my wife on a date night. It's definitely geared toward families. They have a little arcade area and a play area for kids. I was initially a little turned off but here's the skinny. The menu is kind of limited. We ordered wings, fried pickles, and a couple combos (steak,shrimp and ribs) all were delicious. The food was cooked just the way we ordered it, and it was really good. The kids meal came on a frisbee, and they offered my son free desert. Love the food however after getting into town and planning everything carefully by their website which said they closed at 10 we were turned away when we arrived at 9:38. We were told they closed at 9:30 and the grill was turned off. We could see people sitting in booths eating. It couldn't have been that difficult to seat us. We would have eaten whatever they had. We were asked to wait while the manager was asked. Two people tried to seat us while we were waiting. Thank goodness we didn't sit down because we used yelp to locate a place that was open. It led to the Carolina Roadhouse and one of the best meals ever. They had no one in the restaurant and were more than happy to seat us. Customer service is extremely important. We came in for dinner and a couple drinks. After waiting outside this impressively big place for about 10 minutes we were seated in an agreeable location. There were not a lot of people there so initially I wondered why there was a wait, but it was the day of New Year's Eve so I can imagine there were not many servers working. I honestly thought this place was a sports bar before coming in, and while they do have loads of tv's everywhere, I was pleasantly surprised to get pretty good food. I and two of my friends all got the Roadrunner sandwich (grilled chicken honey mustard cheese stuff). Give that a 4/5. The side salad was pretty standard, above average portions, included chopped real bacon, egg, croutons, AND cheese which was pretty sweet too. Salad and sandwich was about $13 give or take a buck. There were at least 20 domestic, craft, and import beers on tap and My Sweetwater blue was $4.50 I believe and then 2.75 for my next yuengling, which I feel both are very fair. Both beers were very enjoyable and satisfying. I would give thorny's a 3 for the overall experience, but 4/5 if not our small problems with the waitress; if she had been an average server it would have been a 4. She was young and very nice, but didn't really suggest anything even after not really being around our table for at least 7 minutes after we sat down, and then wasn't really around until after we finished eating. Also, there was thrice that we tried to say something when she was about to turn to walk away and she didn't hear, but she may have just been hard of hearing and this isn't a reflection of her ability as a server or the restaurant. The only suggestion I would have is about the menu is that there are only 4 different sides; steamed vegetables of the day, broccoli (I think), some sort of potato thing and then the Thorny's Tri-fries (or something like that, they were the kind of Arby's curly fries without being curly, more traditional fries, and potato wedges together) on almost every thing. I would add at least a couple more sides, even if they are just more various forms of potatoes. Asked about where the rolls were that they used to have and the waitress replied with "oh, we still have them, I forgot!" Mushrooms looked like they were cooked last week! I can't believe they only had 3 stars! This was probably the best service and the best food we had all week! I had the shrimp and it was SOO GOOD! My daughter was able to get ribs and a lot of kids menu's don't have a lot of selection. We were given fresh hot rolls and this was the only place all trip! We would return several times if we lived near by! It never came up on yelp when we were searching for places but we passed it several times and it was packed! Meh. Nothing special about this place. Had to wait an hour for a party of 7 on a Saturday night, which wasn't surprising. We sat at the bar and ordered some appetizers which took quite some time to come. The pimento cheese dip was so cold it was practically frozen and we barely got any for the price paid. Fried pickles same deal; you pay an exorbitant amount and only get 3 lousy pickles. Kids liked the fried mozzarella though; it did seem rather odd, as it was an actual block of mozzarella instead of individual sticks - could prove difficult with a bunch of grabby young kids. When we were finally sat, we were given a table that had just been (very poorly - t here were crumbs everywhere) wiped off and was soaking wet. The rolls were good, and everyone seemed to enjoy the food itself but then again we were starving after a long road trip. One of the people in our group actually won the motorcycle in the arcade section; however, the management was rude to him and told him that the only way to get the motorcycle was to wait for the company to come which wouldn't be for another day and then they would have to confirm it and see if it actually worked. Absolute worst dining experience in my life. After the 1 1/2 hour wait to be seated I was thinking this must be really good since it is so popular. Our food took another 40minutes and my prime rib sandwich was more like roast beef and pretty skimpy at that. Others in my party were served baked potatoes that had rotten spots in them. When we would point out any of these problems to the waitress or hostess they would just stare blankly and move on. After such terrible service, we were also tacked with a mandatory 18% gratuity due to our party having 11 people. read more

We had eaten at Thorny's once before 4 years ago on a trip to Myrtle Beach, and we enjoyed it. So on a recent trip we returned there for dinner. There was about a 20 minute wait, and so after a long day of walking, we waited at the bar (which was mostly empty) and drank lots of water. The restaurant was full, however we did notice several tables open and not being filled, after about 10 minutes of this, we were seated. We were placed in the far back, right next to an arcade that they had set up. I have never eaten at a restaurant where there are video games 3 feet from diners. I wish I had asked for another table, but we were hungry, and I worried another 10 minute wait. This is my regret that I didn't speak up. It wasn't a big deal at first, as no one was at any of these games, and I figured "who's going to use these at a restaurant?" I was wrong. As our food came, so did the kids, as we ate our meal, I had two kids 5 feet away yelling "SHOOT IT, SHOOT IT, SHOOT YOUR GUN.. SHOOT IT.. WATCH OUT, SHOOT, WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!" these kids were just shouting, and they were shoulder to shoulder. Parents are no where to be seen, and I sat there seething. The food we got was good, and our kids enjoyed it. But what a horrible situation to place video games in a dining area, what is the management thinking? Why can't families sit down and eat a meal without their kids running off to play video games. Is the American Family's attention span so poor that they can't sit at a table together for 30 minutes without the kids needing electronic entertainment?
