My friends and i were first timers at Thornton and didn't have the best service. We weren't greeted when we came into the retail part of the winery and were just looking around at all the cute gifts and gadgets they had. The cashier, Jill H, asked us if we needed anything... she didn't offer us a wine list or help... We walked over to the counter and were looking for a wine list and one of my friends picked up an event flyer, not knowing that it wasn't the list. She waited for us to realize it wasn't the wine list ...Then informed us that it was something other than beverages with a really snobby attitude... We quickly looked at the list, because we buy bottles to enjoy at the wineries we go to. Being first timers, we didn't know that we couldn't drink the bottle at the winery without having to pay to have it opened and chilled. Jill didn't disclose that, but after buying the bottle of pinot grigio, Jill told us to take the bottle to another winery or to drink it in the parking lot. Which is ridiculous... why would we bother coming here to buy a bottle then go to another winery... It was super irresponsible to be recommending that we drinking in the parking lot in our vehicle... She also told us to sit at the very far end of the patio seating, because the servers wouldn't want us sitting there. Travis was super helpful and knowledgeable. He Didn't see an issue with us being there and him helping us. We were Truly disappointed with the way she treated us. She sure needs some lessons in customer service and definitely a blending brush. read more

One of my dear friends treated me to a Kenny G. concert last night and it was magical! I think I'm still on cloud 9 from that experience. The venue is intimate, not too big, not too small. It is general seating so make sure you get there early to get a good spot. We stood to watch most of the show and it was everything I imagined it to be. His opening act was on and she was great! I had to go to the bathroom though and I didn't want to miss a moment of her performance....but I had to go. As I was walking to the bathroom, out walks Kenny G. and this dude walks right past me!!! I wanted to jump up and down and scream, "MAN DO YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE?!" Our eyes met and it was kismet! Instead I continued to walk to the bathroom because after all, I don't have the strongest bladder and I almost just had a mini accident seeing the legend that is Kenny G. read more

Thornton is such a nice place to visit in Temecula. The landscape and views are beautiful, and we loved how you can have wine flights to ensure you experience all the tasty varietals that Thornton has to offer. More than anything this is the first winery that has married classiness with accommodation of our young family (crayons and smiles for days from all staff). Scott in particular made our experience special, and we will for sure be back again. read more

This place is a joke. Take it from a former wine club member do not waste your time with Thornton. They literally have a concert every weekend and close at least 5 hours early for tastings. What at disappointment. We actually use to love going here but after being brushed off one too many times we cancelled our membership. Not recommended read more

As we entered the winery, no one greeted us, they continued on their conversation. This was our first time there and would never go back. The wines were ok, unique for sure and would have bought some if the staff was a little more personable. The waitress even attempted to correct my boyfriends' (who is from France) pronunciation of Mourvèdre and then never came back to check on us. Poor poor service to say the least. read more

Our 1st time here , all I can say is that I never felt like hospitality unlike Thornton Winery! Stefanie was on point and helped us with whatever we wanted. She recommended the best wines and even brought us extra bread for our goat cheese. We found this to be the best overall winery in the area! The staff was attentive and friendly. The grounds are pretty with a great outdoor patio to enjoy their food and wine. The food was good but small portions for the price. I had two flights...the champagne flight which was my favorite and the red/white flight which was also very tasty. If you choose to walk around the grounds you will see their herb garden, fountain, and a pretty view of their vineyards. read more

I am definitely a fan.The best part of being part of Thornton winery is that lunch and wine tasting is great here. I love the bread and the goat cheese along with the available wine flights that are offered here. The chocolte wine flight is my fav! Just left from Thorntons... All I heard was No!! Do you have Zinfandel? No Do you have any outdoor heaters? No Can I get some bread with my meal? We don't usually have bread on Fridays.. What? I asked then can I get a side of Fries? Oh I'll have to ask my Manager? I then said "U know all I've heard is No!! Dinner for two $134.00. Only 2 stalls in the bathroom that had a (out of order sign) Needs updating. Bathroom looks like a grade school run down bathroom. Consumers beware. This was our favorite winery that we stopped at while in wine county. We had Nick he was excellent so knowledgeable we came at the right time loved all of our wine selections. My friend and I dined at Cafe Champagne over Memorial Day weekend. This was my second visit and their food and service is always good. Definitely give them a try. However, here's my complaint. We shared the absolutely fabulous "Salted Caramel Butterscotch Pudding" for dessert. It was heavenly, so we asked our nice waiter if the chef might share the recipe. He said, "You should definitely email chef Steve Pickell, he's good about those things." He proceeded to give us Thornton Winery's email and all the pertinent info. Of course, I emailed my request. Nothing. No acknowledgement. No "thanks for appreciating my work" ... whatever. Not cool, guys. I can understand if you wouldn't want to share a special recipe, but at least show enough respect (and good customer service) to send me a short email note back. Fortunately, I was chatting with a cooler and more famous Los Angeles chef a week later and he was more than happy to share his even more fabulous recipe for Butterscotch Pot d' Creme. Now that's the kind of chef I will recommend. read more

We decided to have Sunday Brunch at Thornton and I am so glad that we did. Lisa, our server, was amazing. She was bubbly and really knew a lot about the winery and wines. The food was out of this world. My fiance had the french toast and I had the salmon Benedict, it was delicious. We will definitely be coming back for more. So, I will continue going to Thornton Winery for their jazz concerts. I love everything about that place. I have one issue. Elite Security needs to be more actively around the "dance area." A drunk lady was trying to cause a scene with me. I am not that type of person and neither is this venue. So I left the concert early to avoid a confrontation. I will be back next year and I pray this does not happen again. read more

This winery has the best champagne tour - I learned a lot. The food is really amazing, especially when doing a flight of wine tasting while eating, which is my favorite thing to do. I recommend the burgers or shrimp scampi panini. There are many great choices of wines here and I enjoy visiting once a month. The chocolate wine, though, is worth noting. I usually find dessert port, especially chocolate port, to be too heavy, but this one is light and tasty! read more

I really like Thornton but I have to rate them down from a 4 star to a 3 star because it is a bit spendy. The winery is up on the top of a hill, it has a tasting room, gift shop, tasting bar and patio and a restaurant. I like that they have plenty of seating and food to enjoy with your wine. The service has been good every thing I have been here but nothing amazing. I think the wine is very good and I love the fact that they have multiple champagnes. Excuse me, sparkling wines. If you are a fan of sparking wine I recommend that you pick that flight for your tasting, you will not be disappointed. read more

Having never been here before, the moment we walked in the staff seemed very unapproachable. After sitting down for a moment, we decided to try tasting at another place due to not feeling welcome. Their response to us leaving was very rude, cold, and disrespectful. Not a good first impression. They only serve in-flight form, so if you're looking for normal tasting this is not the place. Service, food and wine were great. I'm not sure why people complained so much. I wish the place was set up more like a tasting room, but it was great nonetheless. I was actually with a group during this visit. We were tasting all through Temecula that day and I found my favorite red of the day there. The Coat Red table wine was fantastic to me. I could see myself drinking that regularly if I had consistent access to it. Compared to the other wineries in the area, the prices at Cafe Champagne may seem a little on the premium side, but it was a great place to stop and I'm glad we didn't miss it. read more

This winery use to be a lot better. They cleaned house and got rid of some awesome staff and now play things by the book. Granted, their pours are still second to none. This winery also has a few different mechanics than most other wineries. 1. You get your own table and they serve you. This is because you can also order food as this place doubles as a restaurant. 2. You don't pick individual wines. Instead you pick a wine flight, which is a group of preset wines. This has some advantages. No crowding at a bar. You can sit back and relax and take your time. You also get all your wine tastings at once. The wine flights do change so if you return they might have a different set. Personally, I wish I could make minor tweaks to a flight but it's set in stone. My two favorite wines here: The Estate Syrah and the Viognier, which sadly, are in separate flights. :( read more

This is one of the first wineries as you drive through Temecula's wine country. The area was pretty big and had lots of parking. They gave free tours every 1.5 hours, so that was a big plus. I didn't join in on the tour because I was eating and didn't want to have my food get cold. They had a sit down tasting area, which was awesome. You could taste their wines, as well as order food too. I ordered the new flight reserve, which is 2 white and 2 red wine tastes. Their portions were pretty generous. They had lots of other choices to choose from. For food, I ordered the sausage pizza. Instead of fennel, as suggestion by our server, Kevin, he put salami. That was an excellent choice. That pizza was delicious!!!!! It had at least 8 small slices, but it was just enough. We also ordered the cheese plate. The cheeses they offered were a good choice. The cheese plate came with one basket of bread and also a refill. Just make sure to ask for it. Kevin was an awesome server. He was very attentive every time he walked in and out of the building by our table. read more

This place is typically busy (especially on the weekends). The grounds are nice with an herb garden welcoming you on your right as you enter into the winery. On the path way you will find their restaurant on the left and the tasting room on the right. Not a bad set up. If you LOVE champagne, swing in, this is one of the few places in the valley that offers it in more than one flavor ;) Frankly, this is what they are known for. So again, if that is your bag, it is worth checking out. The service has always been A-Okay, nothing that stood out but on the same hand nothing wrong with it either. When I have friends that come in from out of town and want champagne, I make sure to swing by this place. read more

Food is excellent. Pizza was amazing. I have to admit that the wine and champagne flights were not overly impressive after having visited several other wineries in the area on this day, but overall the experience was good. My co-worker and I had lunch at Thornton Winery earlier this week. It was warm enough that we could sit on the patio at their restuarant Cafe Champagne. The service, food, and beautiful day made our dining experience perfect. We both ordered the Champagne salad. I had mine with chicken and he had his with shrimp. The table next to us ordered their's with salmon. We all discussed how we would all be back for that salad again. It paired nice with a glass of JUSTIN Sauvignon Blanc. Another table all had rounds of the chocolate wines. If I wasn't working, I would have ordered that flight. I did purchase a bottle of Cote Red and shared it with my husband last night. The estate is simple. A patio that overlooks the front garden/fountain and the main street. The patio was a nice area to just sit and relax. However, there is nothing beyond the patio. No garden or anything attractive that we could find. The tasting room was a little.... different. The tasting area is also a dining area with table and chairs. The drinks are served behind a bar looking area. Being it was our first time here, my girlfriend and I were waiting for a waiter/server to seat us to a table. After waiting a couple minutes, one of the waiters/servers told us to just sit anywhere there is a open table. This place is known for their champagnes, but they also do wines and even have some chocolate wines. They do flights instead of typical wine tasting where you can select the type of drink you want. $15 for 4 champagnes is what we got. There is also a 2-for-1 coupon for your guys info. (so essentially u can get 8 tastings for $15) All the waiters seemed super busy. We were never checked on once we ordered. I even had to help myself to the water dispenser. Only 1 person behind the bar serving the drinks so she was pretty busy herself. Overall, decent place. Just nothing "wow" about it in my opinion. read more

I was there for wine tasting and a quick snack before dinner. Tried the mixed flight and I must say.... I'm a fan. Great selections! We had the meat and cheese board for about $22 and they had enough servings for 2-3 people. They serve complimentary bread at the table which is much needed after a day of drinking. :) They have plenty of patio seating and they have a live performance during the early afternoon. This time it was a man playing the acoustic guitar to oldie tunes. It was a really nice atmosphere. Service was really good. The server, nick, was very attentive and catered to our needs, including splitting the check 3 ways for the 3 couples at the table. Visited on 5/10/14. It is a very cute and family friendly place. Very large and open with a beautiful view. There was live music which was not too loud. I went with my Mom for a tasting and food. The service was very good, all the staff was friendly and very attentive. She had the red wine flight and I had the champagne flight. I love the information place mats that tell you about each glass. Never seen those at any other winery. We also tried the charcuterie board, which was ok. The presentation was a little weird, one of the cheeses and the mustard was hidden. The pickles were very good though. We also had the macaroni and cheese which was delicious! Definitely would order it again. We spent a good deal of time here and we were never rushed. The coffee was also very good. The tiramisu is really delicious also. I would definitely return here. It is very relaxing and a nice place to chat and eat some delicious foods and drinks. read more
