I work in the building that has a crosswalk to the Chase Bank in which Thistle Cafe is conveniently located. Austin doesn't have snow but they do have 100+ summers and it is miserable to leave my office at noon to walk 4 blocks to go to lunch. I do not even have to walk outside to go here! I would probably go to Thistle just out of pure convenience with a side of laziness but at the end of the day the food and prices are what keep me from coming back. The have daily lunch and wrap specials that range from $5-$7. My go to lunch is a turkey burger with a side of fruit all for $5! I challenge anyone to find a better deal downtown. The space has been renovated since Annie's moved out with sleek modern touches and tree trunks as columns. Breakfast features the usual Texas breakfast tacos, but they also have fresh-made migas, french toast and muffins. Lunch features delicious and creative salads and wraps. Other choices include sandwiches and hamburgers. The sides are delightful, especially the tortilla soup & potato salad. There is a $5 lunch special every day. The regular prices for salads and sandwiches ranges from $7.50-$10 which is a bit pricey for lunch but they all come with 1 side. I got lunch To Go, which consisted of a burger with all toppings and a cup of tortilla soup. The soup was decent and the burger met expectations. If I had paid a normal price (8ish dollars), I would've landed on the OK range. But my total bill was 5.41. Considering I'm the kind of person who is ok with paying 7 or 8 dollars for a one taco + latte breakfast, I did pretty well. Super disappointed with thistLe today, i came in and been coming here for the past year because of co workers liked it however the food here isn't anything special its really mediocre like many of downtown food. Ever since the past 3 months i feel they changed management - they didnt provide the same wow factor customer service as the old owners which made us come back.. last time i came they forgot my coffee however they made it up by givinG me coOkies which is cool i felt, but today not only they forgot my soup i went up there to tell them im still missing a soup and it seem liked she was going to fix it up then i thinnk the manager got caughht doing other things to where i had to go back up aNd ask AGAIN for the soup.. won't be returning here for mediocre food and bad service read more

I wanna like Thistle, and for awhile, they were our office's go-to for breakfast tacos. But they're super inconsistent, and the new girl working the front is a train wreck. Can't speak for their lunch, but they have solid, made-to-order breakfast tacos for pretty cheap. Their staff seems to be overwhelmed easily, and the tacos can be on the greasy side, but still tasty and reliable. And then things started going downhill. In the past month, a new girl runs the register in the morning. And aside from being generally less friendly and sociable than the owner (who is super friendly), she frequently misunderstands orders, and seemingly always overcharges. Seriously. Every morning, I'll get two tacos, one for $2.50 and one for $3, and somehow the total she gives is always six and some change. Little things, but it's frustrating. Then the long wait, more misunderstanding as you ask for salsas... and then for the third straight time, a messed-up order. Somehow "no jalapeños please" because "no anything on the taco, including cheese". :| I wanna love Thistle, it's tucked in a nice spot downtown. But it's gotten too hard to overlook the shortcomings, especially with the new girl botching every aspect of her job, and having to play defense on every part of the order to make sure I get the right food at the right price. read more

I love Thistle. In the madness of overpriced, overrated food shops in the downtown area I was pleasantly surprised to find such a great lunch location. So far I've only ordered the Cheeseburger daily lunch special and I have loved it every time. For less than $10 I get a monster burger loaded with cheese and bacon and a small side. That is a lot cheaper than 90% of locations in the downtown area, and even eateries outside of downtown. They also have an amazing Garden (veggie) burger for those non-meat eaters. read more

This is my new favorite lunch spot downtown! Really fresh recipes and a super easy in-and-out process. Everyone who has helped me while I have visited has been so amazingly nice and kind! I think this is the only location downtown that doesn't have that downtown rush to it. You can go in at 12:15 on a wednesday and take your sweet time without the rest of the store scowling at you. I read about Thistle on Yelp but had a really hard time locating it - so best to google The team loves getting our quick lunches from here from time to time - fast, fresh food with great service. Even for our larger joint orders, they are careful to label everything and make sure nothing is left out. Their salad and daily lunch specials are my favorite. However, their salads are pretty pricey - so sometimes I opt for a cup of soup + mini salad combo 5 starts for variety of food, quality, and service. Minus one star for how expensive it is! Cheap, healthy lunch option downtown. Thistle offers a $5 wrap lunch special every day. Today I got the chipotle chicken wrap with side salad. Other than the price, the side salad is what I'm the biggest fan of: mixed greens, black olives, tomato slice, feta cheese, red onion, shredded carrot, balsamic vinaigrette and croutons. The wraps are on whole wheat tortillas, good size and filled with quality salad greens. I go about as often as I'm in the mood for a salad and wrap... the regular menu prices aren't nearly as good as the lunch specials. read more

Super convenient place to drop by for breakfast or lunch if you work in the area. The salads are extremely reasonably priced, especially with Leaf less than a block away. I ordered using the Yelp option my first time and it didn't go through to the restaurant till about 20 minutes later, so the owner (I'm assuming) gave me a free cookie for waiting. Thistle used to be located where Gloria's is now, on the corner of 6th and Guadalupe. They have since moved into the old Apple Annie's cafeteria space in the Chase Bank building. I frequently go there for lunch and find it to be one of the only places downtown to get a decent meal at a reasonable price. The wrap sandwiches are very good, made fresh, and can be had for only $6 with a side dish. The side dishes are generally quite good as the soups, salads and potato salad are all solid. Thistle does an interesting take on potato salad using a Dijon mustard blend that may not be for everyone. I happen to really like it. I also recommend their Thursday green chicken enchiladas which could use a little more chicken but have an excellent tomatillo sauce. Enchiladas and tacos are served with black beans and yellow rice. The veggie burger is also a quality lunch option and frequently features avocado. The homemade chocolate chunk cookies are also recommended at less than $1. Lately the wait times for food have been reduced although in the past the service could be a little slow. A lot of the business is take-out and I would note that the interior seating is a turn-off. The family style tables with odd high stools were installed by the previous tenant and not replaced when Thistle took over. They would have more dine-in business, I think, if they replaced the tables and stools with more basic restaurant seating. There is also outdoor seating but it can be quite hot out there (though most tables are at least partially shaded). If you're downtown for lunch, where else are you getting a decent turkey wrap with a side salad for $6? Nowhere, that's where. read more

I work in the Chase building, so Thistle is an easy elevator ride away. The convenience combined with the friendly service and tasty food make this a winner in my book. I try to avoid anything on the menu that contains lunch meat because I'm not a fan of processed lunch meats. Everything else is pretty great! My favorites are their breakfast burritos (a steal of a deal at about $5 and it feeds me for both breakfast and lunch!), veggie wraps, grilled cheese, and daily lunch specials.I'm a salad girl, but the prices on their salads add up quickly. I added grilled chicken to my salad one day and somehow ended up paying $16 for the meal. As other reviewers have mentioned, some things on the menu are overpriced, but you can definitely find budget-friendly, tasty items pretty easily. read more

The food is great, when the orders are correct. Orders are regularly missing an item or something that is specifically not requested is included. The issue is corrected but this wastes my time, and who has time to deal with a messed up order on a regular basis. Prices change like the wind, and fluctuate regularly with out notice. Please invest in an accurate POS system, and stick to pricing. I do not want your discounts, I want to know what I am paying for the exact same order daily. Consistency is everything, and If these two issues were fixed I would rate this establishment 5 stars, and continue to order more regularly from a great place that needs to work out a few ongoing kinks. read more

I'm so glad this place is close to my office! I love love LOVE their chicken caesar wrap. Even though the rest of their menu looks amazing, I haven't been able to order anything else! The second time I went, I ordered on Yelp (which I don't recommend doing). I got there and they didn't know about my order because they don't use Yelp often. But, I was told I can also preorder on their website and they gave me a delicious cookie for the inconvenience. Next time, I'll try preordering online.
