Tons of snacks and beverage options.

I love walking over one building to grab some great food while on break. Tom is the owner and he's usually walking around meeting and assisting his customers. They have decent food and tons of options. Check out their Facebook page for the weekly daily specials!

Welcome to Chuck's Wagon!

If you love super exclusive, hard to find restaurants, with really specific hours, and lots of gravy, then The Chuckwagon Cafe (a.k.a Chuck's Wagon) is the place for you. Get in on the ground floor of the next underground "in the know" hangout in central Austin while it's still a secret. Just remember to bring your ID, not because they serve booze (they don't) but you literally need to have an ID to enter the building. A Texas state employee badge is preferable for fast-pass style service, but as long as you have a driver's license, the security desk will scan you in. Once inside Chuck's Wagon, you'll rub elbows with the state's elite over a plate of salisbury "steak," extra sloppy joes, cheeseburger macaroni (like Mom used to make when she was really tired), or smothered beef burritos (a favorite of the ladies). They also do breakfast, with a pretty decent taco Tuesday special for 99 cents. They have a nice selection of Maine Root softdrinks, and all the green or red salsa you can fit into those little cups. Prices are fair, with most lunch plates averaging $7. New price on muffins was $1.69 as I write this, just in case you were wondering. Service is where this place really shines. They always drain the grease off the meat when I get the nachos, without even having to ask, and there's a little bowl with pennies in case I need help making exact change. Whew! Chuck is especially cool. I have yet to meet the Wagon, though rumor has it he only comes out at night. The atmosphere really takes me back. To the 90's. In a small town cafeteria. Not quite like Furr's Cafeteria, but more like what a Furr's in 1990 wishes it could've been. I always wish I was brave enough to put flowers in a boot, but thankfully, Chuck's Wagon has me covered. So double check that they're open (see times below), grab your ID, check in with security, then walk, don't run (or security might tackle you) on over to Chuck's Wagon NOW, before it gets too popular. And tell em The Wagon sent ya! Hours of operation Monday through Friday: 7 a.m.-3 p.m. (Closed on state holidays when skeleton crew is not required.) Breakfast: 7-10:30 a.m. Hot Lunch Line and Tex-Mex: 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Grill: 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

It smelled so delicious that I forgot to take the photo before starting to eat.

I have not found a taco place that was phenomenal until I tried this place! The vibes take you back to Mexico with authentic tacos served simple, straight forward, and let the taco speak for itself! We were downtown for a concert at the Moody Theater and were hungry so we decided to walk a short 9 mins to Taqueria De Diez! The best decision made! Full disclosure... the establishment is located down a very DARK creepy alley (the kind in the movies where you shouldn't go down to get) but after overcoming that fear... this will be the best decision you make! Your tummy will thank you! Follow the outside "TACO here" sign. Go through the door and walk straight... this will get you through the line. Lucky for us on a Saturday night at 10:30pm there wasn't a super long line. We managed to grab two seats to chow down our tacos. You will be able to see the chefs cook the carne asada on the grill and the Al pastor on the spit roast being cut to be put in tacos. The smell was amazing and you know you're at a legit place! Ordering: -Check out their menu while waiting in line so you know what to order when it's your turn. -place order at register. They accept visa, Mastercard, Venmo, cash, but does NOT accept AMEX. - grab your drinks if you purchased some. Mexica soda, horchata, jimicama drinks, water , etc - give your ticket to the expeditor and tell them to go or dine there. The expeditor will ask you cilantro, onions, and salsa on a taco? Say yes. It's a must. The expeditor will tell the chefs to assemble your tacos. (I'm seriously so impress with how efficient and quick their service goes. We waited maybe 5-10 mins and got 5 tacos and chips/salsa. There was about 8 ppl in front of us but the lines go quick. If you ordered chips and salsa then you will get the chips from the cashier and the salsa from the expeditor. * 1 Al pastor taco on flour 4/5: love the fresh pineapples on it! The Al pastor had crispy pieces and was super tasty! It was really tasty. There were pieces of meat that was dry but the salsa helped and pineapple. Season was really good! I was in awed with how tasty it is! Definitely best Al pastor in ATXi had! * 1 Campechano on flour 5/5: wow best of both worlds! I had this taco second and loved the combo flavor! Juiciness of the carne asada and crispy frol the Al pastor. * carne asada on flour 5/5: juicy perfectly seasoned and love the green sauce on it! Sauce was creamy and paired well with the taco. It was so so freaking good! The flour tortilla is super thin and let the meats stand out. Loaded Smokey taco and was differently the best carne asada I've ever had! After trying the carne asada I definitely think it's better than Al pastor! I'm glad I tried the Al pastor taco first before the carne because I think the carne asada would have outshine the Al pastor if I had it first. It was a great end to the last taco! * 1 VOLCAN- couldn't try because it was sold out * chips and salsa 4/5: chips crispy and not oily. Salsa was super spicy but good. All tacos come with onions cilantro and salsa with no additional cost. Overall do I recommend this place? I truly wish I tried this place 5 yrs ago when I moved to ATX! I truly highly recommend this place! Do not wait 5 yrs to go try this place or you will be full of regrets! It's a simple taco but made right with complex balance and flavors! I love love love it and now will be thinking about these tacos! Highly recommended! Prices are reasonable and the tacos are made with love!

The food is incredible, the atmosphere is welcoming, and the staff truly make this place special. Huge shoutout to amazing team members Ariel and Emily for being so warm and kind. The chef even made our pup Zoloft a pup cup today, which was such a sweet gesture. The lovely woman who helped us during our last visit also gave Zoloft a pup cup, so they've consistently shown kindness to our little family. They even gave complimentary vegan cookies to guests when we arrived (not sure if it was a special promotion, but such a thoughtful touch!). And the ice cream... WOW. Made with lentils, and honestly some of the best ice cream we've ever had--rich, creamy, and unforgettable. Friendly staff, delicious food, thoughtful service, and creative plant-based treats.
