I came here at about 8:15am on a Saturday and there were already quite a few people enjoying breakfast outside on the patio or inside the cafe. There was a fairly large pastry selection, which made choosing something mildly difficult since everything looked really good. There were also a variety of desserts, yogurt, fruit cups, and bottled juices and sodas. I ordered the bacon scone and a medium coffee. While I think scones can sometimes be too tough or too dry, the one I had here was excellent! It was tender and slightly sweet, not what I was expecting but a pleasant surprise. The coffee was good. It looked like they also have more exciting drink options like different types of tea lattes and handcrafted espresso drinks. By around 9:30am, the line was out the door, so I would recommend either coming early or trying to avoid a rush. The staff were very quick and knowledgeable about the products and menu, but sounded a little stressed out when it got busy. One of the many coffee stops on my Boston adventure. The space is nice, with a very warm coffee shop feel but hard to find seats. Most people seem to come to spend a morning here. Perfect if you're on your own and/or as a couple, big parties will have a hard time finding a table. Service was quick and efficient but not super friendly (one of the cashier offered bagel options to my friend, but my cashier did not). Otherwise I received my bagel and coffee within 5 minutes time. The salmon lox bagel was just okay. It was fair for price point but underwhelming in quantity of filling. Matcha latte did not have a strong matcha flavor. Overall would consider to come back for a quick coffee pick up, otherwise would recommend trying other locations. read more

Sitting on a popular shopping street in Boston, the Thinking Cup provides caffeine to locals and tourists alike. I came here on a whim looking for a light breakfast on a warm fall day. I ordered a latte not expecting much, and a chocolate croissant. To be upfront, the croissant was nothing to write about and if anything, very mediocre. However! The oat milk latte was so creamy and so rich. I've been looking for a latte that's hit the spot like that since coming here, and I have yet to be satisfied(equator coffee in SF comes close though). Love this spot around the corner from another popular city chain. It had a good deal of people but felt more welcoming and homey. The cashiers were super attentive and kind. I ordered the Blueberry Cornmeal Cake, a Madeline, and a London Fog. My friend ordered two of the coconut desserts and a cup of drip. The blueberry was just sweet enough from the blueberries themselves while the cake was moist and not too sweet. The Madeline was so good I went back later for another. Very moist and vanilla flavor. I would have preferred some more steep on my London Fog for that tea and bergamot flavor plus a little more essence of vanilla. Very milky. Love that they have regular mugs too Great selection and setup with my only complaint being no wifi. That is wild to me. Perhaps they are trying to encourage conversation or something but should really state why they don't do it. Made it hard to work here. Would still come back. I am a coffee drinker, though did not order a coffee! Not sure how different my review/rating would be, but for my first experience it's about a very average 3.5 (3 in this case). I was in town visiting and ran down Newbury, ending my exercise with a visit to Thinking Cup so I can have a morning treat on my walk back to my starting point. I walked in and was intrigued to try the turmeric latte as I wasn't in the exact mood for coffee yet. The associate suggested ordering it with ginger/honey added in for more flavor, and I also did dairy substitute with soy milk. The turmeric flavor was very much there, except the creaminess reminded me of "Tom Kha" soup that you order at Thai Restaurants...honestly tasted very identical! (Personal problem: But did I really want to feel like I was drinking a savory soup at 7am?) It was not bad at all, just very average, but overall a nice experience to try a new place out. I'm probably writing this off pure emotion--- I was about to give this place 5 stars until I found out they DO NOT HAVE WIFI. I'm just really disappointed because the food here is amazing and there's lots of seats--outdoor, near the register and LARGE back area. It looks like a place where people can hop on their laptops. I ordered a grill cheese on multigrain bread, swiss cheese, jalapeños, roasted peppers, and tomato. It came to $9.25. I immediately fell in love with this sandwich. It was just the right size, tasty and crispy. I also had a blueberry muffin ($3.50), which was large, sweet and fluffy. Ah, Thinking Cup. My absolute favorite Boston coffee shop since 2013 when I first discovered this on Foursquare. Remember Foursquare? No, because we're on Yelp now ;) Their hazelnut latte is the absolute BEST. All their syrups are house made and it's special because you can absolutely tell. It took me a while to get into Thinking Cup as there are so many coffee shops in the Boston area. Thinking Cup has become my recent favorite- love the ambiance and coziness, staff is already super friendly and helpful, and I love that they use Stumptown Coffee beans. What a cute spot! Stopped by on my way to the marathon expo to grab a coffee and pastry to go. I ordered their honey cinnamon latte and an almond croissant. The latte was AWESOME! Super flavorful and foamy. I loved that it wasn't too sweet. I prefer my coffee to be a bit on the bitter side. The almond croissant was not as good. It was pretty dry and didn't have a ton of flavor. I don't think I would order that again, but some of their other croissants and pastries looked really good so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. Conveniently located on Newbury, this is a great coffee shop and even better bakery! It's popular so finding a seat can be a challenge, but if you're lucky it's a great place to sit and get work done. There are a variety of bakery items and breakfast/lunch items available. We stopped here after walking around Boston common and got their hot chocolate, triple chocolate brownie, and a couple macarons. Everything was delicious. I had breakfast at Thinking Cup on a Friday morning after touring around North End; it took a while to find a proper coffee shop but it was well worth the wait. They serve Stumptown coffee which I'm a huge fan of, so my latte was excellent as expected. They have a nice selection of pastries and desserts so, being vacation, I made breakfast out of a slice of orange cake that was so delicious. My wife equally enjoyed her decaf and scone. The shop is a good size with seating in front and back; if you're a tourist there are a few great seats in front to watch the locals go about their day. The staff was very friendly, so I don't think there's anything left to say but check this place out! read more

One star off because the bathrooms always get a lot of use in a place that serves coffee and these needed some attention from the staff and were in a bit of disrepair but bathrooms aren't easy to find on Newbury so its a big plus that they have them. I had the pleasure of stopping by here while in boston earlier today, I had gotten a butter croissant as well as a Madeline cookie, and my friend got the chocolate hazelnut croissant. The total for our order only came to 11 dollars! I was shocked at how cheap it was in comparison to a lot of other cafes I have visited! The madeleine was super soft, and surprisingly sweet! The croissants were both airy and flakey-- just absolutely cooked to perfection! And don't even get me started on how adorable it is in there! It was way fancier inside than we had anticipated, but all-round absolutely gorgeous decorations! They have 2 sitting rooms inside, as well as one outdoors! We chose to sit in the second room inside, it was a bit noisy, but that was to be expected when you are sitting inside of a busy cafe. BUT, don't be fooled- even though they are busy, there is hardly any wait at all to place your order, or to receive it! We let 3 or 4 groups pass us in line while we were gazing at all the pastry's, yet there was still no wait when we were ready to order. A fun place to get off the beaten path. Very unique, old-timey speakeasy atmosphere with a great sprinkle of modern flair and drink options. A lot of open space and good natural light. The place is very welcoming with nice interior. There is a nice selection of pastries and morning pastries on display. I ordered a decaf oat milk latte, a bagel and yogurt parfait. The coffee was by far one of the best I have tried in Boston. The flavor was rich and tasty, and the mixture with oat milk was perfect. The bagel was OK and nothing special about it. The parfait was absolutely delicious and the Greek yogurt was absolutely the best, rich with a great taste. Will definitely be back when I am in town. read more
