This place has decent food and beautiful views, but unfortunately the service is sub-par. We both finished our waters (which was served in a tiny glass that was 3/4 full of ice) and waited for 15-20 minutes for our server to come back to refill them. Eventually my husband ended up walking to the bar to ask her to refill them for us. She almost seemed annoyed that we even asked... not to mention here were at least two other servers standing around at the bar watching television, not appearing to be doing anything. Nothing bad to say about this place. Food was excellent, service was excellent, and the atmosphere is perfect for our party (4 adults and 3 kids). Oysters are from right down the street and you can taste the freshness. Well presented and price. Calamari is likely boxed but prepared very well. The sauce was a great blend of spice and flavor. Don't pass on this if you like either of these. Kids meals were good size and price with zero complaints. Fish and chips was breaded well and tasted very good. Thankfully it was not overly breaded like some places. Reuben was freshly shredded corned beef and held up very well. Now the part you'd not expect, the fries are perfect. Came here for lunch, then for dinner. My husband went with more traditional seaside food - steamed clams and beer - was happy with the selection. My lunch was fine, too. Dinner was a different experience. Two large TVs turned up loud - one a football game on and the other baseball. The bartender could not make a martini. I got a champagne glass full of water and my olives were on a "toothpick" that was about 8 inches long. I sent it back. Next drink was a speciality drink, thought that was safe, but it was again not what I expected. The views are wonderful. read more

We have been in Irish pubs all over Ireland(where my grandmother was born) and none surpasses this Orcas Island treasure. Actually this pub is my favorite of ANY pub/bar I have enjoyed anywhere. The assistant manager Shawn is so personable - perfect for this friendly warm wood-paneled haven full of whimsical art and hanging over a glorious view of Sab Juan islands. This has been my go to place for great Irish pub food. There is a full bar and everyone is so friendly. To top it off the gorgeous view makes this place so nice to relax and unwind. It's family friendly as well. The burgers, reubens, beef stew and shepherds pie are some of our regular staples. Highly recommend. read more

My husband and I were impressed by watching the two waitstaff clean the menus, the tables and chairs, condiment containers, salt and pepper shakers, etc. -- all with changing gloves after working with each table and before and after delivering food. Our server was friendly, personable, and attentive. We shared a chicken pot pie and it was a generous portion with excellent flavor and ingredients followed by a yummy hot fudge sundae. Big Mistake!! I have never been told that I was "cut off" until this evening. Very disappointed in service. We had 8 people who were looking forward to some drinks before going home for dinner. We had a tab at bar and then they wanted to close out as we wanted to sit at tables. Then we were asked to move tables and then when a person at table was given a beer I asked waitress for "same" and when the waitress asked again I said please provide the same. The bartender came back and said I was not being served anymore. 1 beer!!! Poor management. Customer service not number 1!! Lost out on at least an hour of drinks by 8 people But now, worst of all, have to give a bad review. Sad they had so many people not knowing how to take customers as number 1 read more

Service was really poor, took over an hour to get our food while several tables around us were sat, served, and finished before we even got our food. The waitress didn't seem to really care, no explanation given or compensation offered. Food was poor even for generic pub food. Fries were cold and bottom of the barrel. Food overly greasy. Great view. Terrible food. Worst fish and chips ever - soggy fish and greasy breading (and fries). And, the crackers that came with the chowder (chowder was not bad), were clearly very old and/or poorly stored--making us question their inventory--bags were all torn (disintegrating) and crackers were all stale and crumbly. It's a shame because this place has a truly amazing patio / view / location. They don't know what they're doing, IMO. They could deck out the patio area and provide a decent outdoor menu to make this an amazing place during the pandemic. My guess is that they're primarily a bar that "happens to also serve food." But they may need to rethink their business model and up their game. Giving 2 stars because of the view/location, dogs being allowed, friendly servers/staff, and they were wearing masks. Over Thanksgiving weekend my Mom and I were staying on the island and of course, there were slim pickings for open restaurants. We were pleasantly surprised when White Horse Pub appeared to be open. So we came in, sat down, and our waitress was a delight from drink to check. The view is also really awesome. The food, however, was not great. My Mom had their Reuben and got really sick afterwards. I had the Guinness marinated chicken and while it was ok, it wasn't great. I'd come here for a drink and the view, but I wouldn't eat here again. read more

We had a mixed experience here for dinner the other night. The view is amazing which is what attracted us to the restaurant in the first place, and the pub feeling was fun. Service was super friendly but perhaps a bit over the top with the flirty playfulness of the waitresses. She was great at her job but she started to become annoying shortly there after with the winks and giggles everytime she was at our table. I ordered the guiness chicken sandwich. It was enjoyable and I'd order again, but it was just a few points shy of perfect. If they perforate the chicken breast before applying the marinade then allow it to soak in longer, it might have a more prominant and enjoyable flavor representing its namesake. My friend orderd the Alaskan Cod and Chips, and she totally loved it. They made a really good tartar sauce with heavy dill that we both liked. One of her fish fillets was all bread and no fish but when mentioned to our server the restaurant quickly made a fillet that had a good chunk of meat inside. We have been coming here on our Eastsound visits for as long as I remember. White Horse has the best view in town, and pretty decent food and drinks. We didn't have the best service this past time, but I will give them the benefit of the doubt because it usually is pleasant and perhaps our waitress was just having a bad day. Good Grief, we just stopped by with our pup in tow to enjoy a beer. Pets are welcome, but when we walked 4 steps in, a middled aged woman rushed toward us and said nope we're shuttin' her down it's starting to rain. Went for happy hour. Our goal was to find good oysters on the island. Awesome. We had some good beer and great oysters on a 1/2 shell. $3 off all apps, $3 draft beers, not just cheapo water beer. The two stars is being nice. Friend and I were there on New Year's Eve early afternoon. The Seahawks were playing and I should have known service would suck unless we were at the bar drinking. However, I noticed customers at the bar leaving without being served, so their service was bad as well. We waited a long time for a server to come over to even see what we wanted to drink. We placed our drink and food order at the same time because we were ready. I asked for a soda and a water. You know why? Because I noticed only two servers and I wanted to make sure I had plenty to drink with my meal. I was thirsty and knew I'd better get two drinks right then. My friend ordered a beer and a water as well. Finally. A beer and a soda appeared. I asked about the waters. I finished the soda. And waited. May I have a refill? And those waters we asked for? Meanwhile, other tables received carafes of water so they could refill their own glasses. The food comes. There are no utensils or napkins or ketchup. Oh and the soda refill and the waters? We ended up asking 4 times for a soda refill and water. When the waters arrived, they were so full of ice, I took a few sips and the water was gone. The food was just ok. Tips for when you are busy: give tables their own water carafes; have ketchup, silverware,and napkins already on the tables. read more

We come here every year when we visit orcas. The view is wonderful. There's always something off on every. Visit though - it would be awesome if they could just dial it in a bit. The food is ok though my girls ordered grilled cheese and tomato soup and the soup was so spicy They couldn't eat it. The corned beef was nice and lean, well balanced with the sauerkraut and the wonton wrapper nice and crispy. My table mates split the Rueben Sandwich with fries. They both liked the sandwich and would order it again. I tried their fries, and they were good--skin on potatoes. They made great drinks, and didn't try to charge twice as much just because we're on an island. Good people around, friendly staff, fast service. During our Christmas vacation, we ended up in Eastsound for lunch and decided to try the White Horse Pub based on recommendations from a few locals we met along the way. This was such a quaint little place with a wonderful view of the water. The staff was very attentive from the moment we walked in. We both had burgers and beers which were great, exactly what we were hoping for. By the time we left, the place was packed and seemed to be family friendly for those with children. Yes, this IS the local watering hole you've been looking for. One of a few bars on Orcas, it's one of maybe two that are open in the "slow" winter season. And what's not to like? They open early and serve brunch for Seahawks games (usually they only have lunch), and they have a killer Bloody Mary. The drinks are strong and cheap, and the staff is amazing. Wonderful! Visiting from Phoenix and went to Orcas island for the day with a group of friends. Spent the day exploring and were looking for a nice and quick place to dine before heading out on a later ferry. We were turned away from a bar down the street because our international friend didn't have her passport. Another restaurant had a very long wait time. Luckily stumbled upon White Horse and were greeted by friendly faces who prepared a table for 6 right away. Good draft beer selection and a delicious bottled ginger beer. Overall the Reuben and fish sandwich were the dishes our group liked the most. Also, yummy french fries. Giant window in the main dining room that had a beautiful view. Our waitress separated our checks quickly (bonus! - some servers make this difficult to do) and made sure we could pay while we finished eating so we could be out quickly to catch the ferry. What brings it to the next level is when I realized I left my wallet on the table....the next morning when I was back in Seattle. I called White Horse and spoke to Dina. She verified that she found my wallet and I described what was inside it. It would have been near impossible for me to make it back to Orcas island as I did not have a car and was flying back out to Phoenix the next day. I explained my situation to Dina and she kindly arranged to meet me in Mukilteo (approx 30-40 min outside of Seattle) which was much closer and attainable for me to travel to. Dina woke up early to catch various ferry rides to get to me in time before my flight. I am so grateful for her kindness and willingness to go out of her way to help a stranger. Was totally expecting standard bar fare, and was pleasantly surprised. We split a Reuben Sammy and Wedge salad that were reallllllly yummy. We had actually planned to just catch a round for happy hour at this place but when we looked at the menu (and saw our neighbors' orders around us) we decided to eat here. Best decision ever! The only short coming was the tarter sauce which had a lot of dill flavoring and no pickle. The skins came with sour cream (or ranchl and were very cheesy. The Bartender was very sweet, I met a couple locals , learned the story behind the beautiful hand made walnut ? Bar !
