So, we were really grateful when a nice new UPS store opened up in our neighborhood. Today I visited this new location between Coralville and North Liberty. The store is very clean and nicely laid out. I've been wanting to visit this store location because it is managed by the same owners as the one near our home. Something I've noticed in general about business is that success and quality service usually happens when the owner is frequently at the business. Today, not surprisingly, the owner, Todd was at the front desk with a cheerful employee. Todd helped me with a package I need to send out. Over the past few years sending numerous packages every week, and also using the other services like the mailbox rental, paper shredding, packaging materials, and more, I've consistently experienced high quality in all areas and really appreciate it, so I figured the same would be true at this new location and I was pleased to see that my expectations were correct.

Neither the North Liberty or the CA post office want to do anything concerning the theft that occurred. I am out sixty dollars but I have learned my lesson. Do not mail anything via USPS because they do not care if your items are stolen or never arrive and they do nothing to fix the situation. I was given the runaround and told to call the corporate headquarters and then told to call the local post office to no avail. The local post office said because a package was delivered on time, there's nothing that they can do about it. So unless you purchase their ridiculous insurance (as though I am supposed to somehow account or be responsible for the screw ups made by the post office), the package you send could in theory be opened, replaced and even though there is absolute conclusive evidence that shows that the package was tampered with, "there's nothing we can do about it," is the response you will get. Corporate told me that "they'd look into it." That's another way of saying don't call us anymore until we call you, if we call you at all. Popcorn doesn't grow heavier with time. I understand that you don't need a PhD to work at the post office but seriously, I ship out a 4 pound box, and the receiver receives a 10 pound box (he was there immediately to receive the package); let's see 10 pounds minus 4 pounds, after the intense algebraic formula calculation; it can be gathered that there is a 6 pound difference that happened between North Liberty and CA. I didn't get as much as an apology for my package being tampered with and stolen. Show some accountability or just be honest and warn your customers that their packages run the very probable risk that they will be tampered with and stolen, and that insurance in highly recommended.

The night before a trip, I was packing and realized I didn't have some garments I'd dropped off. It was 9:30 at night and I was frustrated, so I texted their number not expecting much. I got a phone call back almost immediately, with an offer to bring the dry cleaning to me. Turned out one of my garments hadn't met their standards, so they'd sent it back for further cleaning -- which I appreciated. When I picked everything up after my trip, there was a $50 gift certificate waiting for me. Was I frustrated in the moment? Sure. But the response was fast, personal, and genuinely above and beyond. Lesson learned, I guess, but I would have never assumed it would cost that much for a simple dress. I have never seen that kind of price at other dry cleaners I have used. Also, when I dropped it off, the sign said "anything dropped off today will be done by Wednesday." Well, Wednesday passed and I heard nothing. Once Friday rolled around and I still had not heard anything from them (besides the $37 charge to my credit card), I had to call to inquire, since I needed the dress for an event the next day. No answer. Someone (no idea who) from the store ends up texting me and tells me it "should be done" by the day that I need it by, and also, there is a stain on the dress that they could not remove. Okay, whatever. I just want the dang dress back. So at this point, I'm out $37 and the dress still has a stain on it (the whole reason I brought it in for dry cleaning). I get that maybe the stain just won't come out and that's fine/understandable, but now I am wondering what I paid $37 for. And to get it 3 days after they said it would done (8 days total). For one singular size extra small item. Learned my lesson and will definitely be using a different dry cleaner next time! Hopefully it actually ends up being done before I need it tomorrow - we'll see. Edit: picked it up this morning, hours before my event. The stains are very prominent on the front of the dress. I guess I'm pretty diligent about returning online goods and every so often it's fun to send snail mail to friends, but other than that I'll just stop by occasionally for stamps for work mail. There are two main staff that have worked the counter for the several years I've been coming and they're always quite friendly. More than willing to work with you to get your items shipped safely and affordably. Sometimes the stamps options are limited, but I've never not been able to do what I needed. The facilities have always been very tidy and they seem to have a large section of boxes. I love my local post office!
