We stopped by The Twisted Apron in Windsor for brunch and had a great experience. It was busy, but the wait was under 10 minutes, and the interior felt surprisingly upscale for a brunch spot. Service was friendly and welcoming, which set the tone right away. The classic breakfast with a small stack of pancakes (4/5) is exactly what you want it to be. Well-cooked eggs, generous and perfectly done bacon, and pancakes that lean slightly dry on their own but come together nicely once the maple syrup hits. The halloumi bowl was my favorite dish. Portions are very generous, even the smaller size, and the vinaigrette ties everything together without overpowering it. The halloumi was the highlight and delivered exactly what I was craving. We sat at the bar as we didn't want to wait 20 min for a table for 2, which isn't bad for about 10:30am. Our server at the bar. Jonathan was great. Greeted us immediately with drinks and was attentive throughout our stay. They have standard brunch items and some unique ones. This was really good! I stopped in with a friend for a quick brunch and was happy we did. We went on a Sunday around 1pm and had to wait about 10 minutes before being seated. Our waitress was kind. Not over the top, but quick, polite and efficient -- can't ask for much more. I enjoyed the Breakfast Pierogi which I will be thinking about for a long time. They were perfectly cooked, fire hot when served and I enjoyed the eggs and onions on top. If you stop by, I think you'd enjoy! Only downfall? Loved the food, there were so many good options so it was hard to choose but I love baklava so I had to try the baklava french toast and it didn't disappoint. I walked by this place in December when the weather was a bit cold, and there was a line outside the door. I'd seen it recommended, so I promised myself I'd return some day. Fast forward to Spring, and there was a line up inside. (They don't take reservations except on Easter Sunday and Mother's Day.) The sadness of solo dining is no companion to talk with during the meal. The joy of solo dining is that I snagged a single seat at the bar almost immediately. I was greeted quickly and cheerfully, and I put an order in for a Red Eye and perused the menu. The Eggs Benedict with salmon caught my eye (they had a much better name for it on the menu, which I forget), and I got a side order of fruit. The coffee was hot and delicious. I took the opportunity to look around the space. Bright and modern, but with some photos of Windsor's past on the walls. Some places have a nice energy to them, and this is one of them. Normally I don't eat dessert, but I had such a glow on from the meal and the experience that I got a salted caramel offering. It was so good, not too sweet, not too salty, a perfect balance Food service was quick and the eggs were poached perfectly, the smoked salmon was clean tasting and delicious, and the addition of fried capers was a nice crunchy texture. The fruit cup was fresh and a nice variety of berries and fruit chunks. Excellent service, a large pleasant atmosphere, and a good place to begin or end an exploration of Walkerville. This will be a must visit the next time I go to Windsor, no matter how long I have to wait for a table read more

Even though I live in Detroit, I was recommended this place in Windsor Canada by two different people. So when the opportunity arise for me to go to Canada, I decided to stop here with some friends for brunch. We were warmly greeted and quickly seated at the bar area. The menu offered a lot of variety of food for all dietary needs. My friends and I started off with a mimosa, a margarita and a grown-up Shirley Temple. All of our drinks were excellently prepared. I ordered the brunch melt, which was lightly toasted on a French toast bread with caramelized onions, and some type of honey mustard sauce with french fries. The sandwich was excellent, so very good and the french fries were nice and crispy. My friend ordered the steak and eggs, and her steak was cooked perfectly. No complaints at all. I did notice that this place was on the smaller size so I would advise people to get there early if you want a table because they do get packed quickly. How they made the crispy poached egg was interesting! Jasmine ordered Eggs Benny with hash and onions on top of the hash. The food tasted great, however, I'm not sure if requesting substitutions are uncommon in Windsor (I'm from Texas), but it definitely would've been nice to sub the regular toast for French toast instead of having to purchase two breakfasts (the French toast + classic) to have what I wanted. But that's okay, as mentioned, the food tasted great! The recommended pear mimosa was also okay; I'll stick with traditional mimosas lol. Also, while I noticed my waitress didn't take the time to tell me about the specials like she did with her other tables, she was still pretty attentive. Overall, I'd visit again when I'm up there visiting family again. Giving 4 stars since I can't do 3.5 - the food makes the smaller inconveniences worth it. read more

I had not been to this restaurant since the renovation. I had high hopes, based on the style and ambiance. My hopes were dashed. The wait for food was shocking, but not for those who ordered after us at nearby tables....just us. Our server must have thought that waiting was in our blood. When food finally arrived, it was only for one of us. A second dish appeared a few minutes later. At that point, we were informed that one of the dishes had been made incorrectly by kitchen staff. There was nothing that we could do, but wait. Then, we were told that it would take even longer. Another staff member dropped by to blame the kitchen staff again. Finally, the dish arrived (at least 10 minutes after the first dish). Many years ago, I worked in a restaurant in the front of house. As such, I am inclined to think that the kitchen staff did its job properly. They make what is ordered. If someone takes the dish and delivers it to the wrong table, that is not a kitchen fault. I suspect that is what happened. There was no need to deceive us and throw the kitchen staff under the proverbial. Speaking of the kitchen, the food was good! Thank you kitchen staff for your professionalism. I am sorry for the bad review (it is not yours to wear), but the owner(s) should be informed of our poor service experience. read more

Over an hour wait no matter when you try to come in. They don't take reservations. They won't even call you to let you know when your table is ready - they expect you to stand at the door (they have no chairs in the waiting area) and wait to be called. My friend went for the omelette special while I was quick to order the Twisted Croque Madame...A delicious sandwich of a Canadian type cured ham with provolone cheese in a buttered marble loaf topped with an over easy egg and a side of breakfast potatoes. WOW...that was a mouthful in every sense...lol A special surprise came when we tasted the side of homemade jams that were served with my friends toast....HOLY MOLY were they out of this world delicious!!! I'm glad I asked if they offered those for sale, and they did...I bought 2 jars to bring back home with me!!! I was quick to open a jar and share the goodness with my family that afternoon. The current 3.5 star rating of the restaurant is a bit surprising to me. It seems others encountered consistency and/or service issues, but for our group's visit here last week, they were both stellar. Very much what you'd expect from a gastropub/brunch place from the menu. Some went for the brunch items, and others went for lunch ones. My wife and I ordered the steak sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich and split them. I was very impressed by both. The steak was about the best I've had for a steak sandwich in that price range ($18). The fried chicken sandwich was phenomenal in taste as it was in value ($12), and I loved the homemade hot sauce they brought out upon request. Sandwiches are priced on their own and don't come with a side. I really like that idea in the event you want something lighter one a given day, or, you share an appetizer beforehand. Either way, you can order the side of fries or salad for $4 if you want. I also tried my kids' French toast (it is kid-friendly, but people shouldn't worry if it's swarmed with kids). It was really up with the best I've had, as was the side of peameal bacon. Everyone at the table loved what they ordered. Didn't get to eat breakfast/brunch here... which was disappointing. Here's the reason why: We waited to be seated for a bit, to be told that the wait would be 15-20 mins, but we could take a seat at a table in the bar area, review the menu and order our drinks. No problem with that. We sat where we were instructed, and waited for menus. After it sometime the bartender (same person that told us where to sit) walked over and asked for our drink order, but since we didn't have menus we didn't know what we wanted. She promptly brought over menus and the water we also asked for. Getting that they were busy, we quickly looked at the drinks on the menu and ordered a couple of espressos. After waiting for at least another 15 mins, we were told that the espresso machine was broken, which prompted the question "since it's broken, are there any coffee options available?" To which the waitress said she would check on that can get back to us... I took a call outside and came back in after a few minutes and my partner said that the waitress still hadn't returned with the answer. She also mentioned that another server asked if our name was on "the list". Since we hadn't given anyone our name she realized we weren't in cue to be seated. But the waitress said she'd make her best guess based on how long she told her we were waiting and added our name to "the list". After learning this information, I walked over to the restaurant side to look for a manager or someone who could help. I found someone who looked like they were in charge and asked for the manager, she said there was none on duty, but asked how she could help. I explained my experience and told her I was trying to decide if it was worth sticking around. She said they absolutely still had American coffee to serve and would see about getting us seated, and took note of where we were waiting. I had to take another call that came in, and had to step out the door for better reception. My partner walked out less than a minute later to let me know that they were going to seat us. I told her I'd be right in. She came out again and said that they won't seat us until I was ready to be seated too. The problem was I could not end my call at that moment, and since we had a small eternity to mull over the menu my partner knew exactly what I wanted to order... so they could've seated us, taken the order and started working on it while I finished the call. This place was a hassle. Annoyed, we decided to walk 25 minutes to TOAST, and wait to be seated there, but had amazing food and great service. It was well worth the walk. read more
