This place rocked. I love brunch places for their unique menu items and food combinations and this place did not disappoint! I immediately spotted an eggs Benedict dish with smoked salmon on top of, get this, a quinoa-dill waffle!!? Oh yeah it was excellent. And I added roasted red pepper to it. Yum. They were good chunky pieces of salmon too. Oh! And another example of unique flavors: I had a creamy pumpkin orzo soup!! Yep- pumpkin with a dash of cream and orzo into a savory-sweet soup. So comforting. Then they have dessert cake called Queen Liz cake which consisted of a rich, sweet date cake and coconut on top. Sooo good. Finally I had a chai tea and it was made well. Service is a joy. Should be pretentious for the rave reviews they get and their location, but these folks keep it real-- good for you! The food is really good. It's rich, it's indulgent, and the menu is creative and changes often. The space is eclectic and clean: an interesting mix of today and I'm not sure when. These guys are such successful restaurateurs that they've managed to package a product for several different groups into one cute little space here. If you get into more than one of those grooves, it can be mildly disconcerting while here to "find your scene." I sort of make my own wherever I go, but I became aware of that on each of my three visits here. I'll guess that certain components of their diner makeup will move on, leaving a more clearly identifiable "crowd." That can make it easier for both proprietor's and customers' expectations. All in all, a great place to eat and drink that I hope will get even better over time. read more

I can't believe I forgot to write this review- the food was that good! Went for breaky and stayed almost to lunch. Is it okay to have dessert after breakfast? The Quinoa Benny is superb, even if you are not trying to eat vegetarian. The glaciers are well developed and the eggs were poached a mile high. Brian the waiter steered us away from the seafood Benny as it's still not ready for prime time. I saw a similar item at the Broken Record in San Francisco but he suggested the quinoa. The French toast was a little runny but that may be my personal preference for a crispy FT. I did thoroughly enjoy the coffee and they had proper 18% cream- not corn oil. For dessert we had Peanut Butter Pie in a sealer jar and Queen Elizabeth cake. All yummy. I want to come back for their cooking classes- especially the sushi class. read more

I came here for lunch with my family during the holidays. The service was definitely great and the atmosphere was cute but a little cold, they could benefit from turning the heat up a little bit (especially in the bathroom). The food was OK, it wasn't anything out of this world but it wasn't terrible either. Nice place, great staff, good food. Came here with my family a few weeks back for lunch. It is a little weird how you walk in to a bar area, and then they will escort you over to the dinning room once the entire party is there. You can't see the dinning room when you walk in, so I was a little confused on where all the tables were! Sat pretty quickly. Our server was very nice and patient, I think she had to ask us 4 times if we were ready to order before we finally looked a the menu. I had the grilled cheese, it was pretty good. There was something sweet in it, which i was not expecting and not really a fan of. My sister had the fish tacos, which I tried, and were very good. I recently had one of the best meals I've ever eaten here. I came for brunch with a friend of mine and ordered one of the day's specials. Little did I know that the plate about to be set down before me would become perhaps the best brunch I've had (certainly within the recent past). The Twisted Benny, as it was called, blew me away. It started with a foundation of fluffy and flavourful pancakes. These alone would have been tasty, but topped with a house made onion jam, perfectly poached eggs, a rich hollandaise sauce, and ripe avocado slices (a replacement for the default bacon slices) the meal instantly became legendary. After cutting the first egg open and watching the golden yolk spill out I knew I was in for a treat. The hashbrowns on the side were also a delight! Gave it yet another try after prior mediocre meal. Huge disapointment . We dined on the new side of the building, my daughter was served a cup of soup with a long hair, the other kids ordered mac and cheese that was sub par noodles and bechamel which they did not eat. My dish was served with stale bread, unedible and left basicly untouched on the table as were several other dishes in our party, just bad. The discription of the cold cut platter was that it was served with preserves , none present just mustard. We also ordered Chicken & waffles which turned out to be luke warm chicken breast served in a sweet waffle ice cream cone, terrible. What really sunk the evening was we sat in the new side that has a open kitchen. The two people cooking wiped sweat away and ran their fingers in their hair all while handeling food, not once did they wash their hands. There were cleaning products left on the food preperation counter. They violated many HACCP rules while cooking on residential equipment, honestly I do not understand how this can be happening. The cross contamination risk is very high here. I was trained in HACCP and have never seen such disregard of food safety We had such high hopes as Walkerville is really coming back to life and needs another great eatery, they have the location, nice decor but bad food and poor service. Funnily enough the same hippity hipster was the one who seated us fifteen minutes earlier, yet didn't think to mention it and certainly had zero tact whilst doing it in front of other patrons. Was too hungry and jet-lagged to leave. Hopefully, this fool doesn't stay employed for very long especially if he's dealing with customers. Although maybe the owner is just as militant. Who knows. This place has potential, but I'd never return or recommend it based on that d-bag alone. One saving grace was the apologetic waitress who was mortified at his behavior. We stopped by here on a visit from out of town. The decor is nice, it was fresh and modern, which is not something one would expect from a place in Windsor. I ordered the Traditional Eggs Benedict with a side of taters which has been my default breakfast order the past few months as I attempt to compare the Eggs Benedict across North America. The hollandaise sauce lacked seasoning and there wasn't enough of it. Of the 4 poached eggs on the table, 3 were overdone. One eggs was semi oozy, while the other was completely cooked in the middle. Poached eggs should be cooled in ice water immediately to prevent the eggs from self cooking. I'm not sure if this step wasn't taken or they just simply overcooked the eggs. We also had a side of flat sausage that was basically a pork patty that I found too dry. The pecan pancakes however were good. A bit rich, but I don't mind it as it tasted flavourable. Overall the atmosphere was nice and the waiting staff is friendly. read more

Finally, I found a bona fide damn good breakfast joint in Windsor. The dish's here are inventive to say the least. Quinoa dill waffles, huh? Everything we have had has been tasty, although I have to point out a few areas for improvement.. The mac&cheese benny sounds amazing on the menu, but vegetarians beware, the mac&cheese has chicken chunks, not listed on the menu. The drip brewed coffee is above average. However the cappuccinos are milky and bland. Let's do some coffe geek research here people! ;) All in all we have fallen for the Twisted Apron and will be back many times over the years I'm sure. Finally Windsor has a top quality, fresh food and pleasant atmosphere restaurant. The pork schnitzels were amazing served with smoked cheddar mashed and grilled asparagus, I hate asparagus but the grilling on these was like none I've ever tried. I ate it all! I've been to the Twisted Apron for dessert, and I've always wanted to eat a meal there. I guess it was a good thing Vito's was packed because I really enjoyed my experience at the Twisted Apron. This place has been on my bucket list for Windsor for a while. Major construction on Wyandotte Road kept us from going here a while back. I'm glad I got the opportunity to try it again. Our food was delicious! Two of us ordered the Rancho Huevos breakfast dish, which was served over quinoa. Yum, Yum! I cleaned my plate! Another ordered the omelette of the day and it was huge. Also noted we had a Caesar which was also very good - not too tomatoeey. The coffee cups are a nice big size which was appreciated too. They have a full bar and the menu was unique. I have been here about three times with friends for breakfast. I have been disappointed with the cooking of the eggs for their eggs Benedict all of the times. I'm fairly certain the cook is not experienced at poaching eggs perfectly which is a skill a cook at a breakfast restaurant should have more than mastered. The white part is always raw which can make you sick... It looks unappetizing when the white part of egg is uncooked and swimming around on your plate. The white part of the egg should always be cooked and the egg yolk should be runny for proper eggs Benedict. The presentation of food is very nice but if you don't enjoy it what's the point. I did one time order the eggs over medium and they still came to the table the same way. Overall I think for a more expensive breakfast place you should be getting a high quality meal made by a cook who knows how to make eggs like a pro. First Local Review (and first review in a while) Usually Sunday mornings I go and play squash with a buddy of mine, but this past weekend we both weren't feeling up to the gruelling task of exercising, so instead we decided to gorge ourselves. My buddy suggested that we got to the Twisted Apron, a place that has been on my list of local places to try, so I seized the opportunity. Located in the Walkerville area of Windsor, The Twisted Apron Co. is located on Wyandotte Street East, probably the best street in the Windsor area for eclectic and unique eats. The Twisted Apron does not disappoint. When you walk in, it feels like walking into a familiar place, and you know the cooking is going to be good. One thing from the get go I loved about this place was its ever changing specials. At the Twisted Apron the rotate their chefs every while, and with each chef comes a new board of specials. This helps keep the place fresh, which is often a problem I encounter when hitting up my favourite grub spots, eventually they get boring! Not here, you'll come back just to see who's cooking and what the specials are. Aside from the board of specials they do have a stable menu of breakfast, lunch and dinner options. I opted for the menu and went with the Pacific Waffle Sandwich, a sandwich of smoked salmon, fried egg, goat cheese and red onion served on two waffles. However, what really grabbed my attention was that the waffle was made with Quinoa and dill. Needless to say this was probably the best breakfast I had in a long time. Served with home fries, this breakfast was a monster to try and consume in one sitting so I saved the remainder for what would later be my dinner that night. For what I got, the price tag of $12 was fairly justified and would definitely be a repeat purchase. My only set backs is that breakfast is only served till noon, and the place can get busy, quickly. So if you plan on going try to get up early, or send a friend who's an early riser to save you a seat. A neat little place for any meal of the day and any occasion, right within everyones price range. read more

Meanwhile a couple other tables were seated ahead of us (that arrived after us) and when our 3rd walked in we were told that they were now full and we'd have to wait. Be warned. What can I say? The food is outstanding whether you are going for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner. The menu reads sophisticated, but it isn't pretentious. (There is nothing worse than spending your hard earned money on a restaurant that doesn't know it's own audience, or that is trying to be something it's not.) Every item is thoughtful and creative. In fact, I had to ask Sylvia twice to help me make a decision! She and the rest of the staff are pleasant and helpful. They are willing to make adjustments to your order, screenshot and text you your meal receipt if you leave it behind and even provide you a coin advance for your parking! Gold stars all around! I am well aware that the Twisted Apron does not take reservations in advance so we went and waited. The hostess (black hair, sort of edgy) was SO unpleasant and rude. She acted as if she could care less that we were there. We decided to leave and go across the street. I watched her roll her eyes as we left, but I am not the type of person to cause a scene. I understand everyone has bad days at work but if you're going to greet people at a restaurant, try to be at least friendly and approachable, not miserable. This place used to be great, the staff was great they had a new and creative menu, recently I've been very disappointed not only with the loud dining room but the staff seems to be in a rush to get you out the door. I would go here once a week for breakfast, now I can't be bothered, the crowd in the place is awful "hipsters" and the menu is being geared to them. This is my second time eating here and we had a good experience the first time so were excited to have my sister also try it out. The inside is warm and inviting and I love the rustic wooden floors and the cool lighting. The chalk boards always feature some of their specials and yummie desserts (if you have room). I tried ordering the banana bread French toast which sounded amazing but unfortunately they had run out. I got a classic breakfast with the most amazing raspberry jam. The toast unfortunately was a little too overdone for my taste. Our plates were cleaned by the time we all finished. My hubby was disappointed they no longer serve the perch dinner which was a favorite of his. Maybe one of these days we'll save enough room to try their delicious sounding desserts. Went in with a bunch of friends. We waited for over 2 hrs with everyone coming in after us getting seated before us. We called for a reservation and was told they don't do reservations. The manager was snippy to her servers in front of us. When we finally got seated (our group was split at two different tables in separate rooms otherwise we would never have been seated) our server was very accommodating! She made up for a lot! I got a fish dish, it was delishish but one was not fully cooked through. I won't go there again! It was too snooty! It seems they cater to their friends and that circle of customers.
