Fried green tomatoes
Michelle W.

First time here and definitely won't be my last! Service was amazing from the hostess to the bust boys. This location inside was pretty small, so was it that many tables to sit at but they did have a decent size bar and a good carryout area. Our waitress was kind and felt like family she was attentive and very helpful. As soon as we placed our order a basket of cornbread and butter were set at our table. The cornbread was a little dry not my favorite, but decent with butter. Our table ordered the firecracker shrimp which was spicy but delicious. The fry green tomatoes and a nice flavor. I ordered the Bayou combo which came with rib, tips, catfish and chicken wings with two sides. My sides was the mac & cheese, which was very very good and the sweet potatoes which were perfect to me! FYI they do not split checks and a 20% gratuity is added on parties of four and more

DELICIOUS! From the cornbread to the meal. Perfection. Seasoned and flavored. The lightest, crispiest, seasoned wings. Greens, Mac and cheese and those hush puppies Such a friendly staff and service in a nicely decorated newer space. Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu. Highly recommended.

Sometimes you just need a meal that feeds your soul as well as excites your tastebuds!Cornbread has that meal and then some! The food is flavorful, served at the perfect temperature, and even the sides got it going on! Service can be slow but it is thorough and sometimes you just have to wait for a good thang! All team members that we met were friendly and professional. The restaurant is bright and clean and the head of house is always watching to ensure tables are turned over quickly and properly. There is seating for about 50-60 people and plenty of parking available in the plaza. Our experience did not disappoint, I look forward to the next comforting meal I have at Cornbread!

I haven't been back since they moved to the new location. Looks like the buffet is gone and it's all a la carte. I went with an old friend for lunch and after reviewing the menu, we went with the following: - Louisiana Gumbo - Bayou Combo with fried catfish with collard greens and green beans - salmon croquettes The gumbo was decent, too salty, however their gumbo was a lot better than other MI joints. I had the bayou combo, which is worth it as it allows you to try multiple dishes. The cat fish was bit over fried, rib tips were decent and the wings was not bad. The best item was the green beans, seasoned perfectly and it hit the spot. I would skip the collard greens, had better greens at other joints in MI. The service was great, the person working our table was on top of things... this was the only reason why I went with three stars.

Cornbread is a true treasure in Southfield. I usually judge a soul food spot by the mac and cheese--and theirs passes with flying (cheddar-covered) colors. Creamy, flavorful, and just the right amount of richness. The chicken is so well-seasoned, and they've got some awesome daily specials that keep things interesting. The vibe is welcoming, with friendly staff who actually seem happy to see you--always a plus. There's a wide variety of seating whether you're dining solo, with friends, or posted up for their Social Hour (their longer, soul-food-filled twist on happy hour). Great for lunch, great for laughs, and great food all around. I'll definitely be back.

Cornbread Restaurant & Bar serves Soulfood Cuisine & it is located in Southfield, Michigan. Brunch Menu / Brunch Service options are available until 3pm & there is an All Day Menu. Indviduals can place to-go orders. Cornbread has Indoor / Outdoor Dining Areas & a Foodtruck. There is a Bulk Menu - includes Main Dishes / Entrees, Breads & Sides & Sweets that are available to order. Cornbread has a laid-back vibe w/ sleek black-colored table / seating arrangements, dope wall pictures & a quaint bar area. Bri was courteous, kind, etc. Bri well-managed being attentive to customers at the bar area as well as to us patrons at dining tables. Yes, Cornbread has delicious cornbread! The cornbread was devoured as a starter & it was hearty. The Fried Catfish w/ Mac & Cheese and Collard Greens that was selected from the All Day Menu were all flavorful. Bri made my Dorothy Dandridge Cocktail - it was well-mixed / well prepared & it tasted fantastic. Fabulous Oldies But Goodies played in the background...Good Stuff! Cornbread is open weekdays (except Wed.) & on Sat. from 11:30am - 9pm as well as on Sun. 11:30am - 7pm. cornbreadsoulfood.com @cornbread.restaurant.bar

Tens across the board! Seriously one of the best restaurants I've eaten at in a long time. The food was excellent, hush puppies were the bomb, crispy wings, velvety Mac and cheese. The service was friendly. The interior is clean, classy, and jazzy. I definitely will come back.

TERRIBLE! I'm literally writing this review as I'm dining in. It's 4 tables in the restaurant including my table and 4 guest at the bar . The service is SO SLOW . Everybody looked at us weird when we came in, we were barely greeted the manager nearly walked by us purposely. Drinks are taking more than 15+ minutes and there is no one in here . Being in the service industry I'm disappointed

Overall the restrooms and were super clean. There is ample parking around the establishment and outdoor seating. The tables honor historical figures throughout history. Great services. I have to say the vegan protein was lacking flavor it was missing something I couldn't pinpoint it it needed something to push out the taste 3/10.

Want to be taken to Flavortown? Get down to Cornbread! Flavor, texture, spice levels are all on point!!! Menu is excellent!!! Staff is exceptional!!! The catfish fingers are crispy, flavorful, delicious & the portion size is generous. I could eat these every single day! The yams are succulent, the Mac is cheesy & the hush puppies are... have I mentioned flavorful yet? Finally food that kicks ass!!

Pros: - large portions - friendly service - tasty, home style flavors Cons: - unbelievably SLOW service omg. It took nearly an hour for our meals to come out. Yes, it was a Saturday night, but an hour wait after ordering is quite lengthy. The kitchen absolutely could use some work in managing orders and sending them out in a timely manner.

Cornbread and kool aide martini
Autumnn G.

My first time here! Came and was able to grab a a seat right At the bar and happy hour was going on, our bartender was a sweetie and gave us great recommendations on what to order. I was able to get the firecracker shrimp and down home wings for $5 each along with a $5 grape kool aid martini. My food came with a side of cornbread. The cornbread was moist, warm and sweet, top tier for real. I was afraid my martini was going to be bright purple but it was a pretty lavender and def tasted like grape koolaid. The shrimp were good but suuuuupwr spicy, the heat overwhelmed the flavor. I think the shrimp themselves could have used a sprinkle of seasoning, however when I ate the other two of three shrimp they weren't that spicy. The wings were three whole wings, which I appreciate in this "wingding world", and were seasoned and fried to perfection. I plan to for sure come back , especially for social hour which is Monday through Friday from 2-7pm.

Ask the Community - Cornbread Restaurant & Bar

Is catfish the only fish they serve?

The restaurant also serves perch, salmon filets, and signature salmon croquettes!

Do they take reservations?

They do not. But if you call ahead they will let you know expected wait times and may hold a table for you if you are in route. I highly recommend trying them out. Food is great.

Are the greens made with pork or turkey?

I was told turkey when I went.

Is this a buffet?

No

The waitress was abrasive from the start and immediately informed us that there was a time limit on our table. Looking back, that's actually pretty comical, considering the restaurant ended up taking far longer than their own stated limit to serve us. We were there celebrating our friend's baby sprinkle and hoped for a relaxed, enjoyable afternoon. Instead, the service was painfully slow. Drinks took an exceptionally long time to arrive, and the wait for our meals was even longer. The delays were so significant that one member of our group eventually had to leave before fully enjoying the gathering. Had the service been friendlier and more attentive, the long waits may have been easier to overlook. But between the abrasive welcome, the slow pace, and the overall lackluster experience, our celebration felt more frustrating than enjoyable. I hate leaving negative reviews, especially because I was genuinely excited to try The Franklin. Unfortunately, this visit did not live up to expectations, and it's not somewhere I'll be rushing back to.

We went for trivia and expected it to be the same as always, unfortunately it was not. They erased our points we've earned for a free glass, these are no longer honored. The menu has significantly changed: flights are $2-$3 more, no longer include flight bites, an upcharge for premium pours (which is understandable), no longer has a $5 bottle credit, and each glass is now $3-$5 more per pour. Why did you have to make every last item on the menu more expensive? I understand that the economy and inflation contribute to these things, but to increase the price and get less on everything throughout the menu plus not honor points earned for a free glass is a slap in the face. I'm just crushed at the blatant disrespect for the regulars that come every week for trivia or other events, no warning. Our trivia night just got a whole lot more expensive and we will be looking at other locations with more reasonably priced beverages and snacks. I hope they still allow us to bring in our own food, they did this week but who knows if that will also change. The staff seemed stressed telling us the new rules as well.

Everything tasted super fresh and the menu leans more "snacky" in the best possible way -- perfect little plates that are clearly meant to pair with wine. We ordered a few things for the table and it felt like the kind of place where you just keep ordering one more thing because everything sounds good. Nothing heavy, just really well done bites that let the wine shine. Speaking of wine, the selection is awesome. It's not the usual predictable restaurant list. There are some really interesting bottles and styles on there, which makes it fun if you actually enjoy trying different wines instead of just defaulting to the same thing every time. Service was great too. Everyone we interacted with was friendly and welcoming, and you can tell the owners are really hands-on and working hard to make the place special. That always makes a difference. And the ambiance... chef's kiss. Moody lighting, cozy, stylish but not pretentious. Just good vibes all around. It's the kind of spot you want to linger at with friends and a second bottle of wine. Already planning my next visit :)

It was a lovely experience and the food was for the most part very delicious. Service was friendly and good but a tad on the slow side (not our server's fault, they seemed pretty busy and I think she may have been the only waitress working, so she was absolutely juggling a ton). They were out of the "pretty potatoes" which was disappointing because they sounded super delicious. The restaurant is a little dark and when very busy can get a little loud. The three women at the table next to us were having a very loud conversation (of which I picked up every word) and I could barely hear my fiancé, which I didn't love, so the acoustics are a bit odd. That being said, the decor and vibe is very home-y and everyone that works there was very pleasant and lovely, from the hostess to the man that refilled our waters. We got the charcuterie plate (selected two cheeses and two meats; comes accompanied by fig jam, mustard, sardinian crackers, and cornichons), the caesar salad, the short rib, the arctic char, and the olive oil cake for dessert. All of the food was really exceptional and delicious except I found the short rib to be a tad dry. We each ordered a cocktail, I got a spritzer and my fiancé got a seasonal Pimm's cup-type cocktail that used house-made cranberry syrup. They can accommodate gluten free diets easily which is also a plus. Overall, we will absolutely be coming back!I want to try that Wagyu Pastrami Reuben!
