Lillie Bell's have moved from Southfield to 14365 Telegraph Rd in Redford. They celebrated their Grand Opening May 4th. This is a black owned, long standing business. They are now located in the Heritage Plaza next door to Skylar Laundromat. The new location is very spacious for both the staff and customers. They now have a dine-in option with two pub tables and four combo seating of table chairs and window sill cushions. The food is still cooked and served with love! I had the Gotta Have Soul - 4 Fried Catfish Strips with Mac & Cheese and Green Beans with Potatoes. I love that over the area where food comes from the kitchen reads: "Lord, we pray that you bless this food and everyone who partakes of it. We pray that you bless them in the way which will benefit them the most." I receive that blessing! I ordered my meal takeout! It was so tasty! I was able to divide my meal for lunch for two days! They have three lines inside: 1) Order Here, 2) Pickup Here and for those short on time, 3) Whatcha Got Ready Right Now? They participate with DoorDash for delivery options. This is my third time trying Lillie Bells and second at the new location. The one thing that has been consistent is the pleasant staff. The young lady working greeted me when I came in the door, offered a menu and suggestions. Kept cash on me and tipped in the tip jar today. Now to the food. I'm disappointed. I wanted to think I had one of visits due to grand opening. The rib tips were not tender. Better than they were when I tried in Southfield, but not enough that I could eat it without chewing at least 10-20 times. I wouldn't recommend. The catfish was fried decently, but lacked flavor of any kind besides the breading. Like you'd have to eat it with the sides in one bite to enjoy. Greens with smoked turkey were the star of the meal. The macaroni was mid at best and greasy. Not seasoned much. I ordered the A Lil Sumthin lunches to try different food. It was a waste of $20. I have more than 1/2 of the food not eaten and likely won't. It's a good option if you find something you like and short on funds during the lunch time. However, I have no interest in a 4th try. My order was also wrong. It was a slow lunch today so I don't know how yams and macaroni can be confused. Luckily I checked the bag. Small space to sit and eat inside, but most do carry out. Idk if it's just me but something about the portion size and the price just didn't sit right with me. I ordered a dinner that came with two meat options and two sides. I chose the rib tips and pork chop. We got about 5 pieces of ribs and one pork chop. The sides are your average size. We also ordered one build your own bowl. Grand total was $62. I just didn't feel like it was worth it. The food was good but... it didn't wow me. My daughter absolutely loved the strawberry banana pudding. I ordered the vegetable plate for carry-out on a Sunday afternoon. Mac and cheese, yams, collard greens, and dressing. I do not eat meat. My issues are; The yams had a lot of strings in them. The greens had a lot of turkey in them and the dressing was not fully cooked and was sweet. I ordered the vegetable plate because I don't eat meat. Is it possible to make a separate pot of greens for the people who don't eat meat? I understand sometimes businesses get busy, but I would rather wait for a fully cooked side of dressing than consume it undercooked and rushed. Otherwise, the food was seasoned well. I ordered the New Orleans potato with Cajun shrimp. I was not disappointed. The potatoes are huge. Mine was cook superfection. The large shrimp were seasoned well, with just the right amount of Cajun spices. I also ordered the strawberry banana pudding. I was a decent treat. The fresh strawberries are a great addition. The price point is not for the faint. The potato alone is $19. The Rachael Ray in me could eat carryout/delivery twice at that price point. I entered the store from the rear parking door. There is a small area in the back of the store. This is Lillie Bell's area. The staff were pleasant and greeted me quickly. My online order was there waiting; piping hot. I order the fried chicken wing dinner with macaroni and cheese and greens. I added a side of small potato salad and sweet potato to make the meal enough for two people. Surprising, the potato salad was good the macaroni and cheese was very good; not overly seasoned. The fried chicken (per my bff) was "off the chain" lol. The collard greens were a bit bitter for my taste. The sweet potatoes had a weird taste to them, almost as if they used a chemical sweetener of some sort. I couldn't tolerate the taste. My bff thought the same but said "they're cooked good." She added more cinnamon to hide the taste. The polite and prompt customer service and the amazing taste of the macaroni and cheese were enough to carry this review to four stars. The bitter greens and the weird taste of the sweet potatoes should be an easy fix. Im sure its a simple quality control issue. I would definitely order from this carry out restaurant again without hesitation. I recommend everyone to try their macaroni and cheese. Tried to place an online order at 3:30 for a New Orleans baked potato, a side of yams, and a side of macaroni. We're a vegetarian family and unfortunately, there wasn't an option to take the swine off the potato. So, I had to call in a pickup instead of getting delivery... very inconvenient. I gave my order over the phone, specifying NO BACON. I was told 30 minutes and it would be ready. This was not my first time patronizing this establishment. The food is always good. But, the wait is always excessive. So, I gave them an extra 30 minutes before arriving, so I wouldn't have to wait. When, I got there I STILL HAD TO WAIT 30 MINUTES. Got the food, my daughter starts eating in the car... only to get home and realize the potato is covered in bacon! My child hasn't eaten pork in 3 years. When I tell you the worst service! I try my best to support my Black people, but today was not the day to play with me. so the manager took my order she told me it would be 25 minutes. I waited in my car and when I returned 25 minutes later, I asked her how long and her and another young lady both said they were busy and they had a lot of orders. I continue to sit down and wait and I see that they had a lot of orders that's fine but when someone else ask them how long it would be, they told them about 10 minutes.. so when I asked how long it would be after waiting 30 minutes it was a whole big problem manager/employee try to communicate to me that I was improper for asking a question about my wait time. How stupid is that the customer is always right after waiting 30 minutes you mean to tell me I'm in the wrong eventually the manager was displeased about me continuity talk about so she refunded my money and told me I should give a review...... So, I just want say if you hate your job get another one!!! The customer is always right. I ordered a pan of Mac and cheese for a tailgate party. I picked the dish up the night before and they provided me cooking instructions for the morning. It came out absolutely perfect.
