I really enjoy The Tailored Tea. As a 20 year old it is a nice refreshing place to go to get a break from the hustle and bustle of a typical day. The clientele is a lot of elderly people but don't let that scare you away. The decor is perfect. It is is an old house with beautiful mismatched china which adds a certain lovable quirkiness to it. The food was delicious. I ordered the butternut squash ravioli. It was in some sort of amaretto tasting sweet sauce with cherry tomatoes and spinach. IT WAS AMAZING. It tasted like a real treat. Definitely something I would order again and again. My friend got the Horace Greeley sandwich, she says she really enjoyed it. The tea can be ordered by half pot or full pot. The half pot is 3 dollars. The menu said it was 3 cups of tea but it was really 7! The pot never seemed to end and that was okay with me, I highly recommend the Raspberry Apple tea. It had a delightful tartness to it. The service was good and quick, even when it got to be busy. There was only one waiter on the entire room, he did a very good job not neglecting anyone. Welp!! NOW I know why this place has bad reviews and 3 stars. Wanted to give them benefit of the doubt but nope. Let's start by saying this place needs a major face-lift and a deep cleaning. STAT. We drove over 40 mins to make a special trip to see and support this place. Called the day before to make a proper Resv (owner answered) and let him know it's our first time and asked if he had some allergy-friendly foods. He said their oven was down? But he'd make some things in his home kitchen no problem. Well we get there and that was a big unapologetic NO from the apathetic, waitress who wiped her nose with her hand while speaking to us. I asked if she could please double check as I had spoke with the chef/owner over the phone the previous day and she reluctantly went, came back and was just like Yah, no .. he didn't make you anything. She didn't care, he didn't care, and I didn't care when we left and took our money elsewhere to a better place with better standards. Doesn't live up to the price. I have been there twice for Tea for Two through Groupon. Waited 45min for my salad by that time the Tea was gone. The next course was underwhelming. Tea sandwiches are made on stale bread, I mean all the breads ! Scones both times were great. The deserts ? Stale tasting. Keep in mind this is a $50 for 2 venue. My third visit to the Tailored Tea, and I have been impressed each time. The setting is an old farm house. As you walk up the path from the parking lot to the house, you'll notice an herb garden, a gate with no fence attached, flowers, and a cute sign saying something about fairies - all setting the scene for your breakfast experience. The staff are very attentive, making you feel like you're an old friend come to visit. The house has small rooms, giving an intimate atmosphere. And the food is the best! I ordered the egg and avocado, pictured here. The avocado frames the egg as they are cooked. It was unique and tasty. This was partnered with one of three scone options - buttermilk, sweet (Apple and toasted coconut) or savory (forgot what was in it). I chose the savory. Be sure to request the jam and clotted cream to accompany your scone. It's the bomb! Their home fries are delicious too. I had a nice-sized pot of black tea with my breakfast, that gave me almost four cups. There's is an extensive list of tea options, and you can get coffee if you prefer. The only disappointment was the pork sausage - it was the only ordinary part of the meal, and was maple-flavored. Some people may like that, but not me. My companion ordered the spinach Benedict on the savory scone, which was topped with fresh chives, presumably from that herb garden outside. That was delicious too! Such a disappointment. Have visited Tailored Tea several times in last couple of years for tea and scones - and their scones have deteriorated beyond belief. Today I was served something that resembled an overcooked muffin top - that was so far removed from a scone that it was an insult to a customer's intelligence to call it a scone. It was actually inedible no matter what it was called. Also - what they called clotted cream was just sloppy, regular cream. Pot of tea was fine. Service was perky - but a bit defensive - I am guessing I am not the first person to send my "scone" back to the kitchen. Sadly, I was not impressed with the venue. I had my daughter's bridal shower here and was very disappointed in the food. I had several guests who ordered the salmon complain that it was so over cooked and dry that it was inedible. If it had been one person I would've thought it was a fluke, but I had four or five people tell me the same thing afterwards, and several guests that left hungry. For the price that they charge per head, I expected more. Also, the soup was so hot (as in peppery) most people were not able to enjoy it. The salad however was very good and included greens, nuts, and fresh berries with a vinaigrette dressing. I took the time to read the reviews and felt confident in planning to have the shower here, but in the end I was very disappointed and embarrassed. read more

I've been there a dozen times and haven't found anything I really enjoyed EXCEPT the breakfast sandwich on their Breakfast Menu! So delicious, as well as their buttermilk scones. 4/21/17 - Friday Met with my 5 friends at The Tailored Tea for our monthly luncheon at 12:30 and nearly every table was occupied. We met Jared who provided our service.We learned that he was the primary chef there and now owner. While it was a little tight this place is still loaded with charm and beauty down to the quaint mismatched teacups and lovely cloth napkins. We all took advantage of the soup or salad selections and nearly everyone ordered tea or coffee and there were positive comments on both. Two of my friends opted for a beautiful salad and and frittata and were happy with their selection while others selected a half sandwich and the soup of the day (mushroom bacon). I selected the Ann Lee-smoked turkey on a hearty bread with a light cranberry mayo which was delicious and quite filling. The offered soup was generous in it's portion and dark mushroom thick in it's essence and taste and I could have eaten more! I highly recommend making reservations for their Sunday breakfast buffet weekly lunches. (They do not serve dinner). They are also known for their many fine teas and scrumptious scones and don't forget to read the history of the Hills house since this building is a NYS landmark from the Revolutionary era. read more

We reserved space for a party of 11. The mix was all female ages 8-65. It was a girls family day. The place is very sweet. Nicely appointed, cozy. We were led to a space upstairs. We were seated right away and orders taken soon after. I understand that the mix match of china and dishes must e part of the ambiance but when you are given water in a glass the size of a thimble and NEVER asked if it could be refilled thats a big mistake. We all ordered iced teas. Most got the Raspberry Apple and the rest the orignal. After 16 packets of sugar it still was not drinkable. It was very bitter and had a bad taste. Never did the waitress ask if the tea was ok after seeing most undrinken. Again I had to ask for more water. not once was it refilled. Then we order. The menu certainly isnt for everyone. My daughter started with the yogurt parfait. The decription says Vanilla yogurt. It was like eating pure sour cream. There was nothing Vanilla about the yogurt. We asked for it to be taken back. Then our meals took forever and when it was ready they did not bring the meals all together. It came in three LONG stages. The breakfast potatoes were very good, the scones very dry and the Orzo Salad was bland. The sandwiches were nothing to write home about. The frittata and the omelet were decent. After we finished we decided to try dessert. WE were told there was vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting and sea salt and caramel cake. We ordered 3 cupcakes and 3 cakes. The cupcakes were small and it was banana NOT vanilla. So we sent back the cupcake and got a cheesecake brownie. The cake was very dry, the brownie not so tasty. We get a bill of 184.00 with tax and gratuity which I think was very high for the portion sizes. They took the parfait off the bill but not the cupcakes. After reading some of the reviews it seems my issues have been addressed before. The owner responds which is great so why not fix the issues. Simple things about water being refilled or timing of food prep. We were all dissappointed. In fact we were all hungry after spending almost 200 on food! read more

When we asked for separate checks we were told "we don't do that here" and she had already put it in the system. Hmm. The system was a handwritten check. The server should pursue a different career. Just can't compare to whistling kettle. Order the hill high tea, with your choice of three tea sandwiches , soup of the day, trio of dessert plate and the scone of the day. My choice to fill this order was butternut squash soup, the tea sandwiches where roast beef, cheese and cucumber and ham salad. The soup was microwave to just being warm and was over powered by the cinnamon, my friends butternut squash with apple soup is still by far the best. Sandwiches I liked the most and the desserts again okay. The staff is nice but slow and not very attentive, also forgetful on some items that were order, also had to ask to have the water filled. good place to meet just have tea and scones or dessert and that's it. read more

We came during the week to grab lunch and experience a 'new' place. The place is 'historic' and has a lot of 'ma/pa type' charm, but the dining area is pretty small. It was pretty full so we had to talk loudly to hear each other, but that didn't bother us. There was about a 10-15 minute wait to be seated. The problem was that there was no heat in the room! They had a small radiator heat going, but it was not helpful. It's hard to enjoy a meal when it's so cold. Service was friendly and the tea was delicious. We ordered sandwiches and salads and they were good. Not the best we've ever had, but not horrible. Judging from the reviews, perhaps the weekend brunch is a better option. Either way, I don't think we'll return because it's pretty pricey for what you get. There are other cafes in the area where you get more/better food for less money...and you can eat in a warm/heated place! read more

Tailored Tea is great. I am not a huge tea lover, but stopped in while in the area for work. It's really neat to watch the airplanes land and take off out the windows of the runway. The food is really great. The soups are always interesting, and they have a great Sandwich with some a neat mayo on it. Also the scones which I am told are baked on site are really great. I had an awesome Cheddar scone. The location is an old house, so the place is split up into a bunch of smaller rooms that have about 7-10 tables. It makes for a great experience, and keeps the noise level pretty quiet which is nice as well. I look forward to going back soon. read more

I held a 60th birthday for my mother here. I made a reservation for 14 people only 6 days in advance and was thrilled they could accommodate us. We had our own room upstairs that was set up with one long dining table, one side table for gifts and cake and one small table with a pitcher of water, cups and menus. The waitstaff was unbelievably patient as we mingled when we arrived. Many of us ordered large pots of various tea flavors and shared with the group. Every tea was perfectly steeped and was made of high-quality tea. I am a tea aficionado and was very pleased with the tea service. All the meals came out together which was great considering the size of the group. I had the Scone Benedict. In general, I think a scone is too crumbly by nature to be part of a Benedict but otherwise the dish was great. The homefries were outstanding. I brought a cake and paid the $1/slice cutting charge to have the staff cut and serve the cake on their china. It was worth the extra charge for me. I had been here once before not long after it opened and had a nice experience but not an exceptional one. I'd say that this time, however, was exceptional. And the staff was superb! read more

Hairs in the omelette! (continued) It is unfortunate that such a promising eatery has lost control of their hygiene standards. My husband ordered an omelette in which, after the third bite, he realized there were not one, but several hairs in just one piece. He had to go to the bathroom to wash out some hairs he had in his throat already. The waitress apologized and did not charge us for his omelette but I still had to pay for my food even though I could not eat it after this disgusting incident. We peaked in, and there was only one older couple sitting in the dining room. That made me upset instantly. Anyways, we sat down and the owner sort of just looked at us like what do you guys want? I had to say, "well can we have menus"..... after we got the menus we were confused as to what the groupon included so we asked him. BIG MISTAKE. His response was "Ha. People buy groupons and they don't even know what they're buying" .... Is he serious??! I was extremely offended and he could tell I was getting upset so he decided to just send his waitress over and take care of us for the rest of the time. She apologized quietly on behalf of him. He is just a typical asshole that's probably upset his business isn't making enough money, therefore he has to be on Groupon. Newsflash !! Had a lovely lunch along with a pot of tea by Divinitea which always makes me smile. Service was great and welcoming and we were not rushed. Nice attempt and location. Just not as spectacular in the food area as there competitors in Troy and Ballston Spa. You surely get the Mom and Pop sense. It is a very cute place to have breakfast or lunch. The cinammon black tea is absolutely delicious. The only negative I have to say about it is there's isn't slot of options food wise for lunch they have some sandwiches and salads. Their chicken pot pie is delicious but it is more of a stew with a scone in it than your traditional pie. it's loaded with veggies and packed with flavor. I would give this place no stars if I could. I went to brunch with a co-worker & friends and several incidents occurred that made me uncomfortable. The food was okay, tea was tasty, however the service was filled with prejudice. I am African-American descent (the other people at the table were not) and I was serviced differently. Our older waitress never removed my appetizer plate when she cleared everyone's else's and my food was the last to be brought out from the kitchen. When the bill came she was told to split it evenly, however my card was processed for a higher amount than the other people sitting at the table. Please beware. The Tailored Tea House is located in a beautiful building. Interior is Victorian, loved the idea of the different place settings and tea cups. I had the broccoli soup, it was served piping hot. My companion had a wonderful green salad with a side of egg salad.... Selection of teas' are limited and I would like the tea to be served in individual pots instead of a tea cup. Ordered off the menu because it was too early for high tea.I will be back the food was excellent it was cook the way I liked it and I was even able to purchase tea and cookies on my way out. Through Groupon, found out about this location and quickly realized why it was unknown to someone who has lived in the area for a long time. First, there's no real parking lot. I'd liken it to parking for an outdoor concert. The exterior resembles an old farm house. Upon entry, there's the lack of waiting area. I'm fine with waiting but when you're stuck between the entryway and bathrooms then it's not pleasant. Onto the rest, once seated I noticed the decor is tacky and old. Utensils look like they may have fed people during World War I. Old, faded, bent. Plates and dishes were the same. Inconsistent and old. The food now.... starting with the "soup of the day" which was a spinach and onion soup which tasted overcooked and bland. The sandwiches were odd... an egg salad in between a mini banana bread muffin?! That sure was novel, I'll give them that. We received a couple scones, cookie, and other pastry. Let's just say half was semi-fresh, accompanied by a couple hockey pucks. I recall dropping them on the plate to test it out. Confirmed bricks! Also, staff should not clean other tables with cleaning solvents when there are still diners. Who doesn't love a whiff of pine sol with your tea.
