A five star review does not even begin to describe my experience at The Ribbon Cafe. The food was absolutely delicious goodness. I had the "Day After" Turkey Panini with homemade apple stuffing and cranberry mayonnaise. But, the standout was the cup of their award winning chowder to start. It arrived at the table with a crab Rangoon stuff wonton and bacon bits on top. It was amazing!!! The cafe is full of neighborhood love and kindness. The service is amazing: friendly and prompt. And, I couldn't get over the story of how the cafe was inspired. The owners wife died of breast cancer at the age of 42 and this place is his love letter to her memory. If you live within an hours drive time of this place RUN don't walk to try this restaurant. I guarantee you won't be disappointed. read more

My neighborhood girlfriend wanted to have breakfast here so I happily obliged. It's a cozy eatery where regulars go for a bite to eat. They are an establishment serving both breakfast and lunch since 2018. For breakfast we had the southwest avocado toast, and breakfast sandwich. All was served up promptly and service was good. Finally got to have breakfast at the Ribbon Cafe and again I'm not in the least disappointed! I had their 3 egg omelet with sausage & ham & cheese. It came with home fries and toast. I decided on the Rye bread toast. The omelet was cooked to perfection, potatoes were not greasy and the toast was excellent. I'm not sure where they get the rye bread from, but it was just so yummy! This breakfast impressed me enough to return the next day to have it again. This place is a quaint little cafe which isn't fancy, but the food, service and prices are very reasonable. read more

Great breakfast and lunch spot located at the corner. There is some parking in the Citgo gas station and street parking. It is open seating. There is one clean restroom. Service is fast and friendly. The wait staff is prompt and efficient, ensuring things move smoothly. Daily specials are written on the wall, offering a nice variety. I haven't tried their breakfast, so this review is for lunch only. The Blue Ribbon is a go-to spot for sandwiches at lunch. Their menu features a variety of options, including Panini sandwiches, Cuban sandwiches, and an array of other creative choices. Every sandwich I've tried has been exceptional. It's clear that each one is carefully crafted with attention to detail. I once had the fried fish sandwich, and it exceeded my expectations. The Blue Ribbon also offers desserts that change daily, adding an extra touch of variety to their menu. Their chowder is excellent in terms of quality--rich and flavorful. However, the portion size leaves something to be desired. What they call a "bowl" of chowder is more like the size of a cup at other places. We stopped for breakfast due to Yelp reviews & I was not impressed. Very heavily decorated for Valentines Day and a nice explanation on the menu about the name. I asked for water and was told no tap water due to COVID19 (is that a thing?!) and didn't feel like paying $1 for a bottle of water. The omelette was meh. Very runny which I adore in my scrambled eggs but am sort of indifferent to in an omelette. Home fries were ok but needed salt. My partner's omelette was excellent though because he had the house made sausage which he loved. Maybe you need to order their house made specialties for awesome food. I was really looking forward to trying the coffee here. I walked in at 2:54pm. I get they close at 3pm, but it's just a cup of regular coffee I was after for my drive. well, I walked in and the woman said they were closed, to which I said "oh it's 2:55." Do you ever meet someone for the first time and the encounter makes you happy the rest of the day? My family and I had one of those experiences today at the Ribbon Cafe. We stopped for breakfast while traveling for the Easter weekend. The lady who greeted us and waited on us, Christine, was one of the friendliest and warmest people I have ever met. Seriously, this lady is so wonderful!!! It turns out, her brother is the owner/chef and he prepared breakfast for the five of us quickly and efficiently. We ordered a variety of dishes and were all very pleased. The buttermilk pancakes were a particular highlight in addition to the Easter cupcake my wife got for the road. I should also note that they use proceeds from the restaurant to support various cancer support organizations, and provide free meals to homebound cancer patients. My wife and I found this awesome little cafe driving through town. We were looking for a breakfast spot, and we found the nicest atmosphere , friendliest staff and best food in Ballston Spa, NY. Our server was Christine (who I think was the owner, but I didn't ask). She was very attentive and although there were several other tables filled with customers, Christine made us feel like we were the only ones there. The food was delicious, prepared with pride and expertise. Everything on the menu was reasonably priced. We told Christine we were from Seattle and just passing through on our way up to Cooperstown. She proceeded to tell us that this humble little cafe beat the Seattle based Pike Place Chowder Co. earning 1st place for the Best Chowder in the Nation! Being from Seattle, I was well aware of Pike Place Chowder Co. and how amazing their chowder is, so I purchased 2 quarts of Ribbon Cafe Chowder to-go. It was the 2nd best chowder I've ever tasted. The best New England style chowder I've ever tasted is my own recipe that I stole from Seattle Style Restaurant which closed years ago. Of course, I'm a little biased, and I've never entered mine into a national competition! Ribon Cafe also has a monthly raffle to raise money for children and families dealing with medical hardships. Omg! Really fabulous The award winning shrimp chowder was incredible. I had some, my mom and got some to go for my friend at home. It was incredible with real shredded bacon on top along with a piece for fried crab that was so good we almost ordered a side order but we were too full. Stopped for lunch on our way from Burlington Vt to Syracuse and found this gem. It was about noon on Friday and it surprisingly was not crowded at all. The staff was friendly and the food was great. My friend and I both got soup and 1/2 sandwich which I expected to be boring but my tomato soup was delicious and my friend's andouille sausage and chicken soup apparently was good as well. I had a 1/2 ham sandwich and the bread was unbelievably thick and fresh and amazing. I was eying my friends turkey sandwich because the turkey was so thick it looked like it was cut right off the bone. They had lots of tasty sounding specials and a pretty well rounded menu as well. Cute little place nestled off the main road. The hostess is so kind and gracious. She really feels genuine. The food I ordered (Cheese steak sandwich) actually had seasoning and a lot flavor unlike many other places around. The cook and other patrons kept staring at me. I'm guessing they have never seen a person like me in the neighborhood. It was a little uncomfortable, but the hostess makes up for it with her graciousness. Portion was a little smaller than what I'm used to, but the prices are also lower than other places which is always a plus in my book. Will I ever go back? Absolutely! This is a small, unassuming place with terrific food. I would be remiss if I didn't mention their award winning Shrimp Chowder. Hands down, the best chowder I've ever had. Chock full of shrimp, bacon and potatoes and served with a crab wonton, it is flavorful, filling and perfect on a cold Winter's day (or any day for that matter)! Their spinach salad was fresh and plentiful topped off with a delicious homemade blue cheese dressing. The pastrami sandwich didn't disappoint; very tasty accompanied with housemade potato chips. Ribbon Cafe is a block off the main drag, so it's not 100% visible as you drive by, but well worth making a turn. I had breakfast. Specifically, a pannini with shaved steak, egg, cheese peppers and onions. Served with home fries. The sandwich was excellent. Good proportion of ingredients and didn't need extra salt, which would have been difficult since the cheese glued it together. The home fries were lightly seasoned, cooked till soft then fried to proper (partially) crispiness. The coffee was excellent.
