I have never been so rudely treated by a service person. This is from someone that grew up in the restaurant business. From the moment we walked in, the woman behind the counter ignored us- didn't even say hi. At first I wrote it off as her being busy, there were 4 other people in the cafe besides us. After 10 min of standing at the counter she finally took our order, which we had to repeat several times : Me:"I'd like a omelette panini with ham and swiss" her:"You'd like an omelet panini" Me:"With ham and swiss" Her:"What kind of cheese?" Me:"Swiss". Even at this point we were cutting her some slack; making everything to order is a lot for one person. While we were waiting we heard the christian radio station... then noticed the overwhelming amount of jesus paraphernalia. (Wish I had noticed when we walked in because we would've walked right back out.) At this point we decided to take our sandwiches to go, and asked. She said no problem, so we moved to the front of the store to wait. At one point while she was headed in our direction my girlfriend started walking towards her assuming it was our food, and without saying anything she shoulder-checked my girlfriend and walked right past her to another table. DID NOT SAY ANYTHING OR ACKNOWLEDGE HER IN ANY WAY. Then, when our food was finally ready, she tossed the bag on the table to our right. didn't even put it on the table we were at?! The food wasn't even good. I wish I could give 0 stars. Eggs were prepackaged microwaveable eggs, no flavor in the sandwiches at all. I bought a bagel with butter. The lady put good amount of butter on a bagel and I appreciated it. Although it wasn't dry, the bagel itself tastes like an off the shelf and nothing special about it. It would have been one star if the Chicken Pesto Sandwich wasn't so good! Walking in I immediately noticed the Christian music on the speakers and the strange look I got from the employee. I asked how she was doing and she didn't reply (I think she genuinely just couldn't hear well bc I had to increase the volume of my voice when interacting). She looked annoyed that she had a customer but maybe something else was going on. I was overwhelmed by the menu and how much there was available (I can't imagine how quick they are when they get busy). I asked if she had cold brew (which is coffee brewed specific for cold brewed coffee), and she pointed out that it's the same as the iced coffee (which is cooled down hot brewed coffee/huge taste difference). I took one sip and couldn't finish it. I've been in coffee for over 10 years and this is not a cafe I would personally go to for their drinks, BUT their panini was amazing. When I was cashing out, I was using Apple Pay and when I was waiting to see where to scan, she told me it was on the screen (referring to the screen closest to her and facing her) and seemed to be annoyed I didn't know what she meant. The location isn't ideal either because you'll be waiting over 10 minutes to turn left on hoosick (but I assume that's anywhere turning left without a light on hoosick). Overall, it didn't seem like a LGBT+ friendly place and they do not have expertise in coffee. She sort of smiled when she handed me my food before I left and told me to have a good day but I did not feel welcome until I was leaving. Not going again and very disappointed. My fiancé and I stopped in this place because it was the closest coffee shop to the house we had recently moved into. How disappointing that the environment was so unwelcoming. I was immediately hit by the rather aggressive Christian messaging from the contemporary worship music on the speakers as well as the decor. To be clear, I grew up going to church and I have no problem shopping at church sales and things like that, and contemporary Christian music (while it isn't my taste) normally doesn't make me feel unwelcome, but something about this felt forced, as if the establishment was supposed to feel welcoming only to a very specific demographic. Nonetheless, I told myself to suspend my judgment, that maybe the owner was a nice person who just happened to be very religious. We ordered lattes and paninis with an older woman (presumably the owner) who seemed kind of cold right off the bat, but I gave her the benefit of the doubt and guessed that maybe she was just busy (kind of hard to believe, though, because the place was empty). While waiting, I went to the bathroom, where I was disturbed to see anti-abortion and anti-vaccine pamphlets all over the walls while I was just trying to relieve myself. Upon exiting, I noticed a signed portrait of Donald Trump that I can only describe as a shrine, which I didn't say anything about but squinted at. The woman said to me in the rudest way possible, "Can I help you???" Feeling super uncomfortable, I replied, "Haha, no, I'm okay," and took my food outside as fast as I could. While my fiancé and I were sitting at one of the tables outside, the woman was obviously making a point to scrub the windows right by where we were sitting and throw us occasional glares. Hands down, the rudest treatment I have ever gotten in a restaurant. While the food was okay, we were so put off by how we were treated that we ended up throwing most of it in the trash and leaving, because who wants to be glared at? All we did was come in and order food like normal people, but maybe we gave off the wrong "vibe" somehow. Stopped in a few years back, and found it meh. Recently tried it again and found it be barely mediocre. Latte was not great, ended up tossing most of it. But as other reviewers have noted, marginal coffee is not the only issue. Go to the bathroom, there is a bulletin board loaded with pro-life and right wing ideology. Walk out of the bathroom, there is bulletin board with big picture of Trump and more right wing ideology. I have no issue with supporting businesses whose owners may have different opinions on some issues than I do. We live in a great country where people are and should be able to voice different perspectives on issues. But if you decide to turn your business into an outlet to push a specific point of view, I can use a business such as Yelp to let others know that they will be served a big helping of ideology along with a very mediocre coffee... from a hostess who can't muster more than a scowl for the customer in front of her read more

I recently stopped at the MochaBlend Cafe, which is owned by two local guys, who've done a great job bringing a very nice coffeehouse to Brunswick and filling the void in the area. I used to work at a busy restaurant on Hoosick Road and at the time, I wish there was a place nearby I could go for great coffee. The location of MochaBlend is tucked way in the back of the Brunswick Plaza, close to the McChesney Avenue access point. The place has two entrances (front door and back door) with ample parking. As I was entering the cafe, a pizza delivery guy followed me in and dropped off some pizzas for the young staff (baristas) on duty, who seem pretty thrilled. My former boss up the road never let any workers order pizza delivery, but I did leave during my breaks. Pizza is good and got me through school. Speaking of pizza delivery, I do recall that one of the owners used be a pizza delivery guy too, way back in the day, but his job was way tougher (made the news). I will not elaborate any further off topic. Anyway, the cafe atmosphere inside is relaxed with community artwork on the walls, large flatscreen TV, very comfortable seating, free Road Runner WiFi access, and a private meeting/community room (for rent). At times, there's also live entertainment inside the cafe. There's also patio seating outside. They have a good menu which offers hot & cold coffee drinks, espresso drinks, lattes, tea drinks, cold bottled drinks, as well as smoothies, frappes, pastries, desserts, and paninis. Egg & cheese breakfast sandwiches (with choice of ham, bacon, or sausage) on a locally-baked croissant or on a fresh-baked panini are also served. I ordered a large Iced Caffe Americano and a Roma Turkey Panini (with chips & pickle), so I could eat it outside. My iced drink was ready quickly and the panini took 10 minutes to be ready. The staff was really enjoying their pizza in the back while my panini was under the hot press, not all the way down, so the sandwich would not be squashed. The Iced Caffe Americano was refreshing and great, but I had to drink it very quickly since it was very hot outside and the drink had more coffee than ice. The Roma Turkey Panini was a HOME RUN, one of the best paninis I've had in a long time. The roasted turkey breast, bacon, provolone, roasted red pepper pesto sauce, & olive oil were very tasty ingredients, but it was the delicious bread used which made this panini exceptional and scrumptious! The warm panini bread was firm on the outside and soft inside. I highly recommend the panini which is way better than having pizza, hehe! This place certainly gets an A for effort. There were hits. There were misses. Expectations were high, and that is always a dangerous place to start off. First, the location stinks (for me, that is). Unless we join the temple out on Hoosick, it's unlikely I'll return in the near future. Plus strip malls just generally give me the willies. Second, their cappuccino. Big points for only coming in one size. Big points for the heated cup. I am an idiot for not reading the menu, because it clearly states it comes dusted with cocoa, so I can't blame the cafe for my lapse. The flavor was good, a nice balance between milk and espresso. The espresso flavor wasn't as deep and rich as it is at Peet's and the foam was full of big bubbles. Solid effort and among the best cappuccinos I have had locally. Third, their espresso. Sadly disappointing, given the cap. It had a crema, but it was thin and dissipated rapidly. The drink was also on the thin and bitter side as well. Oh, and to top it off, there were grounds in the bottom of the cup. Sloppy work. Fourth, the food. Sandwiches. Very good sandwiches. Good bread. Crunchy exterior, with an interior perfect for sopping up all the good oily bits from all kinds of pestos. My wife loved hers, although I thought the prosciutto was thick and nasty. But my grilled veggie sandwich was perfect. Also, the best deal of the day was an egg and cheese croissant for $3.75. The kiddo LOVED it. Ah, to be young and have good arteries. So, everyone loved their sandwiches. The cap was good. I'll write off the espresso as a fluke. The iced tea was over-extracted. The place looked very nice for being in a strip mall. But the people really put it over. The main guy in charge was very helpful, and wanted to make sure we had a good experience. I even saw him pick up a straw wrapper from the floor. There was obviously a lot of pride in this place. Baked goods looked delicious. It is a good sign they don't try to carry a wide variety, so that what they have stays fresh. I decided I would give this cafe more than ample opportunity before I wrote this review. I have frequented this establishment a handful of times over the last few years. I have had a positive experience a couple times, mainly when the owner was not working the counter. The woman who I believe is the owner, (short/glasses) is so incredibly miserable. She is very condescending and irritated every time I have placed an order with her. Forget asking a question, such as, "Do you have wifi?"-- I reluctantly asked this question and was answered in a such a way that I felt humiliated for even asking. The wifi, by the way, didn't work after attempting to sign in with the password she mumbled. It's too bad, really. This is the only decent coffee shop within a few minutes distance from my son's school, and when I have a couple hours to spare when he's at practice, it would be a great place to continue hanging out to read or do work on my laptop. Unfortunately, the attitude of the owner and the lack of functional Wi-Fi will prevent me from returning. The food and the coffee is good enough. read more

This is an odd little indy coffee shop tucked in a strip mall with a vibe sort of as if your beloved, slightly eccentric Aunt who worked for the DMV and spent her weekends at quilting bees suddenly decided she wanted to open a café. It's totally sincere, pridefully maintained, relaxed and comfortable, but will never be mistaken for hipster heaven. The coffee was decent but nothing special, and the staff didn't seem to know a lot about the roast; so, not a destination for coffee mavens. That said, better than the alternatives in the immediate area and they give you a nice cup on some nice real china. What really impressed me, though was, the breakfast sandwich I got, which was carefully prepared (it took a while, but it was worth it) and served on a delicious round croissant that was grilled in a sandwich press. I haven't had a breakfast sandwich this good at a coffee place in eons. I'm now curious to come back and try some of the others. I found the Christian Contemporary radio station they were playing by way of a dining soundtrack a little annoying. It's not the incongruity of the religious message while I'm guffawing at the personal ads in the Metro -- every station's entitled to advertise whatever snake oil they're selling -- it's just boring, dreadful music that does not sit well with a morning vibe. If you want music with a message, make your own mix and get the entertainment, or at least, relaxation level up a bit. That bit of curmudgeonly niggling aside, I had a pleasant experience and have to bump the place up to four stars for being so darn huggable overall. I have been to MochaBlend a few times for a quick cup before or after grocery shopping at the nearby Price Chopper. Today I decided to stay a while and do some work at one of the tables. I had a latte, a cookie, and an espresso. The coffee was not quite disappointing, but I would call it the low side of average and certainly not worth the price. The espresso was big in volume, small in flavor with a sad crema. I've certainly had worse, but I've also had much better. The cookie was basically just dough. I'm not sure if it had seen the inside of an oven at all. Not my cup of tea, but hey some people probably like that. I didn't order any hot food but while I was there I could smell the paninis and soups being prepared for other diners and the aroma almost tempted me to try some. It was clean, the decor was kitschy but quaint, and the baristas were perfectly pleasant, though signs throughout the establishment sort of preemptively chastised you. "This room is exclusively by reservation only, $15/ hour." "Bathroom is for customers". The wifi password itself even asks if you have paid or not. It seemed a little pushy, but having worked in the hospitality industry most of my adult life I can absolutely see where they are coming from, and I have certainly seen signs far more passive aggressive than those on the walls at MochaBlend The reason for the low rating is that all of this was served with a side of thinly veiled ideology. While I had noticed the vaguely religious decor throughout the cafe on my previous visits, it had never quite struck me just how pervasive the religious messaging went. Imagine your born-again Christian aunt's parlor. Don't get me wrong, we aren't talking cathedral religious, no stained glass or massive crucifix. Kitschy religious, like the stuff you'd buy at Bed, Bath, and Beyond to impress your church's book club. I was there for maybe 30 minutes when I noticed the music. Christian rock, like really Christian rock. Sometimes you can't quite tell if Christian rock is Christian rock (I'm looking at you Creed) but the music these guys were pumping in was explicitly Christian and somewhat aggressively so (the DJ literally praised Jesus between every song). Finally, a signed print of Donald Trump adorned the wall near the bathroom. The owners of this establishment have made their ideology a part of their business and that is fine. It is an ideology, however, that I find disquieting. Nothing explicitly said that, as a non-Christian, non-conservative, I was unwelcome, but the atmosphere combined to tell me that this place clearly wasn't intended for me. MochaBlend is a coffee shop designed for Christian Conservatives and if that is who you are then I think that you may like this place quite a bit. For myself, though, I won't be back. read more

Terrible experience here today. I clearly asked for oat milk in my latte and the barista charged me for oat milk. When I got my latte, I noticed it looked strange, and asked her if it indeed had oat milk. She aggressively told me I never asked for oat milk. I would've pushed her on it but was weary of her aggressive tone and scowl. I ALWAYS order nondairy milk in my drinks (I do not drink dairy milk), but she was unwilling to re-make the drink, so I left empty handed. I've been reluctant to try this place because of their limited menu but I'm glad I finally did. This is defiantly more of a coffee place then anything, although I did not get coffee. We ordered takeout from here. I got the Heartland Turkey panini without bacon. It was amazing. Although the garlic was a little overwhelming after a while, it was still really good. Their bread was perfect, and the turkey was amazing and hot. I will be returning to eat in, get some coffee and maybe try another sandwich. My boyfriend got a different sandwich and he didn't say much, meaning it was good. Our sandwiches came with chips. He also said it was really nice inside. Slightly more upscale than the usual coffee shop / cafe. Candles on the tables, padded chairs and the place is nice and clean. They have live music Fri and Sat nights. They serve breakfast sandwiches and paninis, a variety of desserts and of course, all kinds of coffee and tea beverages. Paninis are $7.51 including tax which is nice because there is a $7.50 credit card minimum. They also have some specialty paninis that change daily but they are a dollar or two more. I had the Sicilian panini which was roast beef with a chipotle sauce and my girlfriend got the Milano's Red panini which was the vegetarian option. Both were really good and served with chips and pickle. What we really liked abut the paninis were that they were not greasy or squished. Moreover, they were made with ciabatta which gave the sandwich structural support allowing us to eat the whole thing without it falling to pieces. I'd say the place deserves 4.5 stars but yelp won't let me do that so 4 it is. read more

My current favourite coffeehouse hangout. I'm giving it 4 stars because I have yet to try their food. It's not *too* far for us to schlep to Brunswick from Wynantskill, even if we have to drive on Hoosick (ugh, traffic). Usually it's a trip that starts with with, hmm, well we could get that thing we really need at True Value [hardware], and while we're there, may as well get some coffee, be a shame to waste the opportunity... The location is probably the worst thing about the cafe. But it's absolutely worth it. MochaBlend is owned by two guys who -- I think -- went to Italy and saw how coffee really should be done, and came back here to open a shop only serving quality espresso and only buying the best ingredients. And they do. The espresso: it's awesome. The cappuccino is fantastic, the lattes are divine, every drink I've had here has been supremely wonderful. You'll probably get the best drink if the owner(s) are back behind the bar keeping an eye on everything. Like I said, I haven't tried the food, but they make sandwiches fresh, and everything looks good. I know they get their baked goods from at least five local bakeries (I asked). The live music factor can be good or bad. When the music is terrible it's difficult because there's no room to get away from it and just hang out. The indoor space has very pretty decor and all the chairs are comfy and padded. Some of the tables have built-in chessboards. It's classy and pretty, but not pretentious. The hours are awesome. I hate that all the coffeeshops in Troy close at like, 5 (except the DG - but I think their coffee is awful) and I don't live/work downtown. But MochaBlend is open until 9pm during the week I think, and 10pm on weekends. Go get some espresso. My boyfriend and I moved into an apartment community just a few minutes from this location not too long ago. Shortly thereafter, we decided to try this place out and we have been going at least once a week since. We love this place. I usually get a sausage egg & cheese breakfast sandwich on a croissant - it's amazing. I also love their MochaBlend latte - it's similar to a regular mocha drink at another place, but much better in my opinion. I've had it both hot and iced, and love it either way. I have yet to try their regular coffee, so I can't speak for that. My boyfriend usually gets some sort of panini and the same latte. The paninis come with a small bag of Deep River Snacks potato chips and a couple pickle slices. He seems to love the paninis and we share the chips, which are much tastier than any other kind of chips I've had. Beyond the food and drinks, this place just has a lot of character. They have some local publishings available to take for free at the front of the store, and the place looks great overall. I like the posters on the wall with French text. I've been going to Mochablend ever since I began my bachelor's degree work at SUNY Albany in 2009; I used to come up on Saturdays, order a coffee or seven and use the free wifi to get away from the television and complete my studies. Back then, the business was owned by two men (one named Glen) and Mochablend was a tightly run ship; attentive service, good coffee, and absolutely phenomenal breakfast sandwiches and local pastry. High prices and weird music were no big deal, because the rest of the experience was completely worth it. More recently, ownership seems to have changed, and the this cafe has wobbled slightly off its old foundation of quality. Everything is still OK, but the elements that made it special (local musicians, local art, great service, extended hours) have all been eliminated. It's still better than anything in Brunswick (where this business actually resides) but it's not what it used to be. Worse, as businesses located in the small plaza where they reside have died or relocated in the past year or so, it's hard for me to imagine them hanging on. Mochablend might be a nice memory for me, but recent history suggests the present is only a shadow of their previous high standards. read more

Stopped in today (mostly because of previous reviews and that I had to find a place in Brunswick to meet my daughter who lives in Hoosick Falls!!!) and was very happy with the experience. I was promptly greeted and not made fun of despite my usual "deer in the headlights" stare that I always get when confronted with a coffee menu that extends to more than coffee. The friendly girl at the register suggested an iced latte and when I agreed asked if I wanted a flavor... more blank staring... I finally chose something called "caramello" and was very pleased. Not too sweet, I could still taste coffee - overall quite good. I hope I remember it next time! My daughter (takes right after her mom!) got a large regular and it came in a tureen! A tureen with a saucer, but HUGE! And yummy - I know, I stole a taste - or two! Her friend got one of the yummy looking paninis. The VERY helpful gentleman behind the counter (with whom I had a discussion about Yelp!!!) told us that all the sandwiches are made to order so we could feel free to mix up the items listed in their menu regulars. Wow! I love that!!!!! I adore paninis, but I really really love making up my own. Apparently so did our friend. She got honey ham, roasted red peppers, provolone, bacon and sun dried tomato pesto. Excellent coffee and sandwiches with prompt, friendly service. I visit regularly and have never had a bad experience; they even allow you to call ahead and place an order so you can pick it up without waiting for them to prepare it, but with free WiFi, at least I have something to do in the meantime.
