Stopped by as we were walking through Idyllwild and are super glad we did! First of all the owner was absolutely lovely and service was fast and friendly. Their brownie and their blueberry muffin were fantastic! Highly recommend the brownie. Someone behind us said we were lucky they weren't sold out as people come to Idyllwild just to get a bunch of them and you can see why. Super gooey, rich, and overall fantastic. It's a cute little place with outdoor seating outback (part is covered and there are heaters). It's attached to a parking lot so no worries there.

Tiny mountain town bakery/café with a relaxed vibe and outdoor seating only, on the patio or in nature as the backyard. Plenty of parking. Tasty breakfast menu and pastries. Good coffee. Don't expect much alteration to the menu or brown sugar for your coffee. Your meals are served in a to go compostable container. I sat on the patio overlooking the woods, surrounded by nature all the while listening to a wonderful local artist strumming lovely classic and original Country songs on his guitar. I ordered the scrambled eggs with one extra egg (3 instead of 2), avocado, country potatoes and 2 slices of wheat bread. The eggs were fluffy and everything tasted great. I enjoyed my coffee. The lady manager/Owner was friendly and helpful. The young female assistant on the other hand had a little bit of an attitude. Thus the 4 instead of 5 Stars. Pricing is reasonable. If you ever go to the wonderful little town of Idyllwild Pine-Cove, be sure to try The Sunflower.

    Birthday sheet cake

This review is several months late but alas here we are. I ordered a sheet cake for my partner's birthday in October 2024. Chef Janie was very thoughtful and communicative. I gave her about four days and ordered it ahead of time. I went to pick it up and met Janie in person for the first time and she was a delight! The building itself is super cute and the ambiance is boho chic. All the coffee and pastries looked great. Definitely going back the next time I'm in Idyllwild.

    Good morning sandwich

Cute place and enjoyed the live music, and I guess I'm aware that everything in town is pretty overpriced but the sandwich was $16 for just cheese and egg. It was pretty bland, had to put a lot of salt, pepper, and hot sauce on everything for some flavor and same with my friends who ordered the breakfast burritos. At first I assumed the sandwich came with a meat since the options were listed below it, but then found out it was an extra charge and the cashier wasn't going to tell me. I asked the bread options and she listed croissant as one and I was super interested, then saw that the croissant was also an extra charge and she didn't tell me? It was just confusing. Not about to pay $18 for a breakfast sandwich. So I said nevermind and just give me the plain meatless one on sourdough haha. And everything is served in to-go boxes plastic utensils. It was all fine, just could've saved my money and gotten a quality bagel down the road instead.

The place itself was in a back parking lot so keep going until you find it! There aren't a ton of people working so be patient. They have buzzers that go off when your order is ready. I got the burrito and a dirty chai latte. The burrito was delicious!! The dirty chai wasn't as spicy as I'd like but it was fine. I loved the outside seating area in the back.. they had a musician when I went.

Cute little bakery with a good selection of pastries, coffee & sandwiches. Service was good. They have a really nice sitting area in the back of the bakery with a lot of seating. We had the Mixed Berry Lavender Tart and the Brownie and both were good!

Warm, cozy & comforting are the best descriptions for this place. Homemade breakfast, pastries & sandwiches, hot & cold beverages all served fresh! Be in early as they finish & close early. Bear the line & expect so much goodness! They have a nice porch where you can enjoy your breakfast while kids can play in the yard :)

My absolute favorite item I ate was the sausage. Incredibly juicy and very delicious. I wish we ordered more of it instead of the bacon, in my opinion. The fried chicken wasn't dry and was very crispy. The tiramisu french toast wasn't too sweet, but I also never add syrup. My favorite part about Idyllwild is that dogs are welcome almost everywhere, as long as they behave of course. So a stroller for the pups was great at all the restaurants, but there were a few just lying on the ground under the tables. It's nice that the tables are under some trees. I will definitely come back for breakfast again to try more!

Someone in my party thought he ordered two mushroom and bacon cheeseburgers, but instead he got two bacon cheeseburgers. When the food came out and he brought this up to the server, she became confrontational. She said "I checked with you twice!" in an angry tone. The person in my party does not speak perfect English, so the server may have been right, but to take that tone was very off-putting. Multiple staff came over at that point and they did offer to bring mushrooms on the side, but the way the server handled her frustration came out in her tone and made the whole table uncomfortable. She angrily said "so are we good or?" and we let the situation go. Still, if I had been the one paying (the person the server took this tone with had paid for the whole table) I certainly would not have left a tip (he still did). The outdoor patio was cute and the indoor area seems fun to spend time in. They have a community bulletin board I liked too as well as their music.

Kids 1 egg breakfast: we got the scrambled eggs for this and it came out as a huge portion. More like three scrambled eggs. Prepared well, not very salty. Probably could've used a little extra salt. But I appreciated being able to do it to taste. Also comes w choice of bacon or sausage, and then choice of either fruit or potato item, and also a choice of bread item. Amazing value 5/5 The hollandaise on the Benedict was to die for her. I felt like the hashbrowns had a little bit of like a bacon fat type of taste to them? Maybe other people like them they were very crispy, but I didn't like something about the agent the hashbrowns were cooked in. One of the best pancakes (ordered as a side) that I've ever eaten in my life. The biscuit was also decent but doesn't come out hot. It's very fluffy. Not like a homestyle/Super buttery type of biscuit.

As a breakfast place, most people expect vegetarian (egg & dairy). They do offer vegetarian sausage. No vegan options except à la cart sides. Large bowl comes with a side of fruit, nuts, brown sugar to top. Coffee was okay. Generic drip. Many tables inside (even on a nice weather morning) were packed, but it's beautiful outside. Dogs are allowed on the patio too!

We got lucky*) Server was amazing Food expediter was super nice Food was delicious Elegant, fine dining experience Music was my mountain playlist (and not too loud) View of mountains for me. View of architecture for my wife. PARKING: Parking can be difficult in the small lot, but there's parking along the street too. INSIDE: It was perfect weather. 68ºF at 6pm after a warm day. They have "indoor/patio" style seating which may be difficult for some to access by multiple steps. We were seated at the top, a table away from the music, along the window side. They have heat lamps - but temps were perfect (lots of people and hot food warmed everyone up). I wanted to walk around the restaurant. The tiered architecture is interesting. FOOD: High End Vegan! Yes - I'm guilty of wanting to give them 5 stars just looking at their vegan menu. (And omnivore selection) Yes - I appreciate the care that it takes to prepare a plate. BUT This food was just delicious by itself. Even in a cardboard box, this food would've been amazing. VEGAN "cheese" appetizer (great for 2-3 people) Nut cheese was warm and tangy. This is NOT just cashews and nooch in a blender. It is spiced with something that brings a little heat. *you will want to lick the bowl. PRO TIP: The welcome bread with ... oh shit.... WELCOME BREAD / Garlic Olive Oil This crusty bread served with microplaned garlic + olive oil is fantastic. Garlic Fiend? You're gonna love this. Not a fan of garlic? What's wrong with you?! I mean... just serve from the oil side. Save some bread for your vegan cheese.... VEGAN CHEESE (cont.) Order the gluten free bread (a little more like Uti's toasted dinner roll) with your vegan cheese app. Omnivores at your table will be surprised how well this vegan cheese and wine pair with each other. TROUT I think my wife got the trout. She loved it. Light and delicate. VEGAN KIMCHI TOFU I've had kimchi. I've had tofu. We all have. This was prepared on a bed of roasty veg that was a great match to the salty kimchi. I don't know if there was a marinade preparation (sesame paste?) with the tofu, or it was made locally, or both, but this firm tofu was excellent. Sweet. Nutty. Salty. Fresh tasting and filling. The vegan menu here isn't just an "alternate version" of an omnivore dish. It is its own thing. DESSERT MISTAKE = not getting it. We thought there would be dessert in town, but we got out late. Town had closed. MUSIC Tonight's music was a pair of musicians playing CS&N, Neil Young, Bob Seger... acoustic session: Guitar, Violin, Mandolin. Quiet & sentimental performance was a perfect accompaniment to a long hike day. THERE ARE 1-STAR REVIEWS of this place. They have their reasons. I've only been here once. But I experienced NONE of the things they've mentioned. Moreover, we experienced even better than what other 5-star reviews suggested. This is an elegant spot, framed by a perfect day in Idyllwild. If I come back to the town, I will want to try other restaurants, but I'll definitely come back here. Not *just* because of their vegan options, but definitely *for* their vegan options.
