But I have a major problem now: Amelia's has officially ruined all other donuts for me. While I know many locals come here for the cinnamon rolls or burritos, the Apple Fritter is the real hidden gem. The husband (Jim) has a well-guarded secret recipe, and it shows. Unlike the mass-produced stuff I get back home, Jim and Amelia (the nicest couple you'll want to meet to start your day) use real apples and they are incredibly fresh. The fritter is soft, the topping delightfully sweet (I'm sure my doctor would approve) but not overpowering, and baked with a perfectly tender interior. It left me with the feeling I had the sweet taste of kindness to start my day. Why go to Starbucks to order a Grande from a snarky barista, when you can get coffee here that complements the fritter, warms the morning, and leaves you with a residual happiness-buzz for a great day of adventure? We got the hot chocolate with a slice of pumpkin and carrot cake. We got two extra slices to go, and unfortunately, they placed them in a paper bag WITH NO protection from moisture leak. So after 20 minutes, the slices are leaking badly through the paper bag and staining the clothing of my friend, who was holding the bag in his lap. It's seriously bad that they didn't think about this and properly wrap the slices in multiple paper towels and close the bag properly. Another issue is that we took the original slices of bread to a table, but they didn't offer any plates. The guy said they don't carry any and nothing more, not even thinking that he could ask the cafe worker 20 feet away from their station for some plates for us. I had to make contact with the worker to get us the plates. While the food & drinks were good, these slip-ups caused their rating to go down to 3 stars. We'll probably come back again, and hopefully they'll have learned a valuable lesson.

We still weren't sure what we wanted so we requested a bit of everything (hand pie, cinnamon roll, cookies, and cake options). Not only was she lovely to talk to, she even reached out the week before to warn us about a storm that was coming through and to make sure we had an all-wheel-drive vehicle so we'd get up there safely from Las Vegas. For our tasting, she came through with incredible treats, but what really made our jaws drop was the special requests we had for the cakes. Pineapple Upside Down Cake, Lemon Poppy Seed Cake with Blueberry Cream Cheese Frosting, and a London Fog Tea Cake that blew us away. We choose the Lemon Poppy Seed with Blueberry Cream Cheese Frosting and the London Fog Tea Cake (along with some cinnamon rolls for the day after the wedding). Jamie made the process super easy. But this woman went above and beyond and truly became the MVP of our wedding. She asked if we needed help or recommendations for anything and we ended up with an incredible florist, bridal hair and makeup, and an assistant to watch and dish out the food my husband made for the wedding, and a car service to help ferry our guests to and from the venue. She also made us a gorgeous fruit plate with homemade whipped cream and lemon curd for our pre-dinner appetizers that guests thoroughly enjoyed. The cakes during our cocktails and speeches were devoured or taken home (in their convenient personal to-go tins) to be eaten later. We received so many compliments and the London Fog Cake impressed our guests, it was the clear favorite.
