I honestly don't understand the overwhelmingly positive reviews for this location. As a big fan of vegan donuts, I was especially excited to give this place a try, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. The only vegan option available during our visit was a chocolate cake donut with chocolate icing. It reminded me of a basic homemade vegan donut recipe, perfectly edible, but nothing particularly memorable or worth going out of the way for. We also tried an old-fashioned donut and a buttermilk donut. Unfortunately, both were noticeably dry and lacked the flavor and freshness we were hoping for. Before leaving, we picked up a pie to enjoy later, but it was also quite dry and tasted as though it had been sitting for a while. What a wonderful bakery! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We went at around 8 in the morning and seemed to bring the crowds as it got busy after us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Amelia helped us pick out a dozen donuts and was very kind and patient. She has a passion that you just feel when talking to her. All the pastries in the case looked delicious but let me tell you: that sticky bun was incredible. Over the next couple of days I had a maple and glaze -- both equally delicious and fresh tasting days later. They also have a to go case with breakfast burritos, as well as a bunch of pies (on Fridays for the weekend, per Amelia) that you can grab and go. There's a crumble pumpkin pie that I'll be getting next time I'm in Idyllwild, which a gentleman dining in said was "to die for". Overpriced donuts and only ok , portions are small . Went there on Sunday around 11:30 The lady that took my order was not nice at all she seemed impatient and not one time smiled . Our family has been visiting Idyllwild annually for years and I can't believe it took us this long to discover Amelia's! Everything is made from scratch, and is absolutely delicious! I'm not a fan of buttermilk donuts but Amelia said it's her specialty and wow, my husband and I were obsessed. These are not the donuts you get in the cities. These are made from recipes handed down generations. They are made fresh daily. The chocolate vegan and the apple fritters are Amazingly moist and so yummy. They also have an amazing lunch menu. I recommend the hamburger special. It comes with fries and a drink. Amazing, amazing, amazing! My wife and I were in town for the weekend and went here twice. First time we got the apple fritter, which was unique and absolutely outstanding, definitely get the apple fritter if you know what's good for you. The coconut cream pie was also amazing. So much coconut flavor and the crust was great. On our second visit we had to get a cinnamon sugar donut and a maple bar. Best maple I've ever had. Texture on both donuts were superb. They have breakfast burritos in different meat opts (bacon, sausage, chorizo, meatlovers) ready to go in thier heated Grab and Go case. We got the chorizo and bacon, and both were very good. Upon choosing our donuts we asked the woman which her favorite was and she comically said she couldn't decide as she's been making them since she was 15! You can tell they make these fresh by hand. I average about 3 or 4 apple fritters a month (with my doctor's approval, of course!), so I consider myself something of an expert. But I have a major problem now: Amelia's has officially ruined all other donuts for me. While I know many locals come here for the cinnamon rolls or burritos, the Apple Fritter is the real hidden gem. The husband (Jim) has a well-guarded secret recipe, and it shows. Unlike the mass-produced stuff I get back home, Jim and Amelia (the nicest couple you'll want to meet to start your day) use real apples and they are incredibly fresh. The fritter is soft, the topping delightfully sweet (I'm sure my doctor would approve) but not overpowering, and baked with a perfectly tender interior. It left me with the feeling I had the sweet taste of kindness to start my day. Why go to Starbucks to order a Grande from a snarky barista, when you can get coffee here that complements the fritter, warms the morning, and leaves you with a residual happiness-buzz for a great day of adventure?
