Great food, lots of outdoor seating, good service and dog friendly! Great portions. Order inside and then find seating. Great spot in idyllwild
Great little breakfast spot in Idyllwild! You order at the counter and seat yourself in the patio area. I love that they have outdoor seating where I could bring my dog I got the veggie omelette with hash browns and the Monkey smoothie. My husband got the breakfast burrito with sausage, ham, and bacon. Everything was fresh and really good! If you're a peanut butter lover, definitely try the Monkey smoothie!
What a fantastic breakfast place! We got here at 10:00 am on a Saturday and there were lots of people but we got a table no problem. This is a restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring it out to you. When we got there, there were lots of people and we we were worried that we wouldn't get a table but it is large enough where tables are rapidly turning over and we got one right after we ordered. The food here is fantastic! I wanted to try one of my go-to's - chicken fried steak and eggs but my girlfriend pointed out that the California Breakfast Burrito ($20.99) is made with seasoned ribeye and comes highly recommended. It also has egg, home potatoes, bell peppers, onion, cheese, guacamole & sour cream - and it is one of the best and largest breakfast burritos I've ever had! So good!! I should also mention that the hot sauce they give with the burrito is a Chipotle hot sauce and is very tasty. This place also claims to be New Mexican which indicates that anything Chile Verde has to be really good and my girlfriend is a big fan of New Mexican cuisine so she got the Chile Verde Omelette ($19.99) which is pork Chile verde, cheddar cheese, sour cream & avocado and this too was fantastic and so tasty - an excellent choice! All-in-all this meal seemed a bit pricy, but then again all good here in Idyllwild is pricy. I would say the price is in the ballpark for other places here. I typically don't mind paying more for a meal but it needs to be outstanding - and this one was just that! Well-worth the price of the meal, this was a 5 star dining experience.
Perfect spot for breakfast and bunch! You can either order at the counter and take a seat or get your order taken after seated. We found it easier to order at the counter. All of the servers and workers were amazing. All super attentive and friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The portions were generous. The breakfast burrito was massive and is what you picture when you think of a breakfast burrito. The chilequiles red sauce was good. When my bf and I go out for breakfast/brunch, we love to order something sweet to balance out our savory order. We ordered the tiramisu French toast and wow! It was a proper French toast and it had good flavor. It was a bit too sweet for my taste though. I'd recommend this spot to anyone visiting Idyllwild.
This place is great! Not many brunch-y options in town, so we landed here and were not disappointed. It's a walk up & order type of place. Nice patio-plenty of space for your pup. Food is delicious but big portions so do come hungry! Service is great too. They also have a variety of mimosas! Will def be a place we frequent when in town!
This was our second visit, and we'll definitely be back. We drive about an hour from La Quinta to get here, and it's absolutely worth the trip. The restaurant is always clean, organized, and welcoming, and the restrooms are spotless as well. I ordered the chilaquiles with steak and chose the red sauce. I can usually handle spicy food, but this dish definitely had a nice kick to it. Everything tasted fresh, especially the microgreens, onions, and black beans. I also added two eggs over medium, which were cooked perfectly. The steak had good flavor overall, but mine was cooked more well-done than I would have preferred. I wasn't asked for a preferred temperature, so I'm not sure if that's an option. The ribeye is also sliced very thin, which may contribute to it cooking through more quickly. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be serving this dish on a flat plate rather than in a bowl. The bowl made it a little challenging to cut the steak comfortably, whereas a flat plate would make it easier to enjoy. Overall, the food was delicious, the restaurant is consistently well-maintained, and the experience was excellent. Looking forward to our next visit
A yummy, classic breakfast. My Belgian Waffle combo hit the spot and my friend enjoyed her chilaquiles. The green juice was super grainy, but the tropical smoothie was great. Nice staff and didn't take too long to get food. A little pricey, but that's normal in the mountain towns. Beautiful outdoor patio seating.
I loved the vegan huevos rancheros! The portion is great for $20 and very filling. I was shocked at all the vegan options and happy that they accommodate to everyone. The other dishes were great as well and most plates range from $20-30. At this restaurant, you review the menu and once ready you order at the register and pay. The service is friendly and I would definitely come back!
Great place to eat we had the breakfast burrito and it's delicious can feed 2!! Oj was worth the price and service was fast Our daughter loved her kids portion Will return when we come back to town!!
This is a great breakfast spot with a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable outdoor seating. The service was friendly, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. On our first visit, we ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage, along with the pancake combo featuring three eggs, bacon, and three buttermilk pancakes. Everything was delicious, and we also tried a couple of their fresh juice blends, which were refreshing and full of flavor. We came back the next day and ordered the Mediterranean omelette and the chilaquiles rojo. The omelette was absolutely outstanding and easily one of the highlights of our visit. The chilaquiles, however, were just okay in our opinion and didn't quite stand out the way the rest of the meal did. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. The food, welcoming atmosphere, and hardworking staff made it a place we'd happily return to. Thanks again, and we'll be sure to stop by the next time we're in the area!
Your bubble girl reviewer (peanut, tree nut, and seafood allergy) did not have an allergic reaction here. But always tell staff, so they are aware. Food came out very quick! My absolute favorite item I ate was the sausage. Incredibly juicy and very delicious. I wish we ordered more of it instead of the bacon, in my opinion. The fried chicken wasn't dry and was very crispy. The tiramisu french toast wasn't too sweet, but I also never add syrup. My favorite part about Idyllwild is that dogs are welcome almost everywhere, as long as they behave of course. So a stroller for the pups was great at all the restaurants, but there were a few just lying on the ground under the tables. It's nice that the tables are under some trees. I will definitely come back for breakfast again to try more!
The food was more than adequate - it is unfortunate that when the order was placed it was requested No Green bell Peppers no onions - double checked and still the order came wrong. We picked them out as best we could yet the green bell peppers permeated the eggs bummer. My waffle was hot and the eggs warm Beautiful outdoor setting - customer service though was lacking. - order the food at the counter, they do bring the food to you yet, when they do it is not with a smile or pleasantry. Other eateries in town have the; same pricing, seat you, take your order, delivery your food, and exchange pleasantries. That is the joy of going out to eat while vacationing. If I wanted to serve myself i could stay in my rental. Overall decent food just no friendly service, with a little attitude., Writing this bums me out
Nice interior and exterior seating. Came today for breakfast with a big group. They had a lot of food options.They cleaned tables quickly as guests left so not a lot of waiting. The inside was pretty cozy. To order, you go to the register. It was really easy to order. Got the 3 combo with eggs,bacon, hasbrowns and sourdough toast. The bacon was good and crispy and hash browns were good too. We also got that California breakfast burrito and that was DELICIOUS. I highly recommend the burrito and chilaquiles because they also looked sooooooo good. I asked somebody who had it and they said they were absolutely delicious.

Mama's Egg House is always a favorite stop for us whenever we visit Idyllwild. The city itself is just amazing, and coming here has become a regular tradition for us! We stopped in on a busy Sunday around 10:00 AM. There was about a 20-minute wait in line to order, but once you place your order, it's self-seating and the friendly staff brings the food directly out to your table. We sat outside on the patio and really enjoyed the atmosphere. As always, the food was absolutely delicious. We had a fresh green smoothie, a classic breakfast plate loaded with eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, and ham, as well as the steak chilaquiles with black beans and a hot Chile Verde burrito. Everything hit the spot, the staff was wonderful, and we'll definitely keep coming back! read more

Mama's Egg House delivered on both savory and sweet fronts. The chilaquiles with red salsa and arrachera steak were a standout -- well-balanced and packed with flavor. We also couldn't resist the tiramisu French toast, which was rich and decadent, but every bite was worth it. Highly recommend for a hearty, satisfying brunch! The service was great. read more
The first time seeing this place was after having a meal down the street that was so not with it. That was maybe a month or so ago. This time, it was a must to try for brunch. The hours are limited as it's only open for breakfast and lunch and closes at 4. We spent the day up in Idyllwild and first and foremost, food. Parking situation, I believe they have a parking lot but majority is street parking or lots in town. We arrived just after 12pm which the place was pretty busy. As it was our first time we didn't know the layout of the place. The patio was where the action was happening. Covered umbrellas to help with the heat which was nice. Inside is quite small with some tables but main dining area was on the patio. I didn't know the go about of this place but noticed a register. Waited a bit though the place was packed. I was trying to get someone's attention on getting a table as there was no hosts counter. Finally someone mentioned that you seat yourself and when you're ready to order, come back inside to place your order. They do offer alcohol with mimosas, Bloody Marys and I believe there's a full bar. It took a while to order as the line was quite long and there was only one register where you order. After your order, they ask your name for when your meal is brought out. While I was waiting, I did see loads of amazing dishes being brought out and the server calling out names so they know who it's for. It's didn't take long for our order to come out. Oh, juice was given to you after you order which their OJ was delicious. Has to be fresh squeezed for 9.00. Meals, we went with the country chicken fried steak with homemade country gravy, 2 eggs any style and a side item. And the ham steak meal with 3 eggs any style, a side and choice of bread. Both item we upgrade to onion rings for an additional fee. Plus a side of sausage for the fur baby. Food was quite nice and delicious. The portion was quite big which I like. I think they're known for the breakfast burritos as it was a favorite for loads of people and let me tell you, that thing was massive. Glad we found out about this place which is a favorite for us now for breakfast and lunch. Also, the patio is quite nice and big. There's a table at the entrance where you can help yourself to ice water, napkins, to go containers and some condiments. Tables do have a tray of condiments as well. Pros 1. The food is great. This place is unreal. Or it's what we ordered, I'm not sure as it was our first time there but the two dishes we got were 5 star dishes all the way. You order at the counter and the wait staff asks if you're sitting in or outside so they can find you and bring your food. I got the Chile verde omelette and it was divine. It was covered in Chile verde sauce as well as the tenderest pork your fork can handle. Viola! So so so good. Topped with avocado and got sourdough that was also very good, I opted for the side of a hash brown but I have to say, next time I wanna try the home fries as they look bomb!!! BF got the breakfast burrito that is made with ribeye!!! It was sooo goood. We went halfsies so I got half of this culinary delight and it was even better once you add in the chipotle sauce that comes on top. I wanna come back like tomorrow and maybe I shall!!! read more
Stopped into Mama's Egg House while up in Idyllwild and absolutely loved it. The food was fresh, flavorful, and felt homemade in the best way. The portions were generous, everything came out hot, and you can tell they really take pride in their breakfast dishes. The service was warm and attentive, and the whole spot has that cozy, mountain-town vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer. It's the kind of place you can come for a relaxed morning, good coffee, and food that hits the spot. Would definitely come back next time I'm in Idyllwild. read more

I had an ahi salad. Beautifully composed with seaweed salad, ginger, wonton wrappers and an excellent Asian dressing. We ate on the patio. I used a to go container for my dog to have water. No water offered for my fuzzy friend. Staff was friendly and efficient. read more

$80 for 4 waffles and 2 coffees. Soooo expensive, wow. The coffee was also so bad. please do yourself a favor and buy coffee at a real coffee shop in town. The food was good though. Most of the food in this town has no flavor but this place actually was good besides the coffee and prices. read more
Such a cute little eatery in Idyllwild! I had breakfast out on the little deck and it was a beautiful day with lots of umbrellas for shade. It seems to be a fast casual concept where you order at the counter. They do bring the food out to you. The menus could've used a cleaning, they look like they had seen better days, and they were definitely smudges of food on them. I got the huevos rancheros and it was delicious! Tons of flavor and just the right amount of spice in the sauce. I asked for the breakfast potatoes extra crispy and they didn't seem extra crispy, but they did taste really good. I also loved the big chunks of veggies and there was a nice serving of avocado as well. My food came out really fast and was piping hot. My fiancé got the three egg breakfast. Simple and tasty! The eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection. Coffee was above average for a breakfast spot, but not as good as a coffee shop. Also, no Wi-Fi available and in a town that has poor Internet service that is a bummer. read more

I loved the brunch! Servings are pretty big. Food and beverages are fresh. Wait time is just okay but if you are hungry, you may need to be extra patient. Bathroom wait line can be long as there is only one. Ambiance is perfect for a cozy, quaint, small town. Staff were all welcoming and friendly. I had a great time when we were here! read more

We visited Idyllwild for the first time Valentine's Day weekend and found ourselves at Mama's Egg House on Sunday morning. This is a very dog friendly city, and was happy to see other dogs on their patio. We were told by a worker there that we just pick a spot wherever we'd like to sit, and then order our food at the counter. They deliver it to your table once ready! Inside area is on the small side, not really any room for very big parties, I'd say 4 or less. Outside has much more room to work with. It was such a cute little restaurant... a mixture of new trendy meets traditional mom n' pop. This was around 9:30am and there were a pretty good amount of people there. Nearly the full inside was seated and outside maybe had 1/4 of their tables taken. We got lucky with a corner streetside table so our golden retriever could mingle with passerbyers. When I got to the cashier, I was greeted with a warm smile. I then ordered the birria chilaquilles and pancakes with sausage. We also got the horchata white Russian and michelada. It took maybe 5min for our drinks to come out, and 15min for food to come out. The Horchata white Russian was AMAZING. I dont know how to explain it other than a warm cozy feeling within an iced drink? Haha. Michelada was good. Our meals were both beautifully presented and tasted fresh. The birria was tender and the sausages were definitely homemade- they were outstanding. Definitely recommend trying this spot for breakfast on your trip! We are so happy we did. read more

I had the chile relleno omelette with home fries and it was amazing and a very large portion. The ranchero sauce was so good. My husband had the meat lovers breakfast which he shared with our dog. We sat outside and they put heaters on for us. It's a nice patio area. Service was fast too! read more
Excellent breakfast spot! I ordered the 3-egg plate with bacon, toast, and fresh fruit, and it was perfect (believe it or not, I've seen other places mess this up). My fiancée had the huevos rancheros, and I stole a few bites--the sauce tasted homemade, with just the right amount of spice. The balance of flavor was ideal. Service was great--friendly staff and quick food delivery. The outdoor patio is serene and spacious, with lots of natural light and a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to enjoy your coffee and meal. We went around 9:45am on a Monday, and it wasn't crowded at all. The only downsides: the menus could definitely use a wipe-down, and there's no Wi-Fi, which is a little surprising for a mountain town that gets so much tourism. I came in with higher expectations and left feeling a little let down. The food itself was very good, but the overall vibe leaned much more toward a fast-food joint than the sit-down restaurant I thought it would be. Maybe that's the concept, but nothing I read or heard beforehand gave that impression. Our food came out incredibly fast--so fast that we barely had a chance to take a sip of our coffee. In hindsight, I wish I had ordered the coffees first to actually enjoy them alongside the meal. We just expected something paced more like a restaurant experience rather than quick-service dining. That said, the chili verde burrito was flavorful, though not piping hot, and their signature hot sauce was fantastic--definitely a highlight. The staff was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. The atmosphere was a bit mixed: one side of the restaurant felt like a fast-food setup, while the other side had a much cozier, restaurant-like feel. Stopped for breakfast before on our way home. You look over a menu and order at the counter. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Our drink orders came out quick and soon after came our food. Oh boy! We landed at this restaurant while adventuring into Idyllwild. It was busy but we managed to find a table for 4. The staff was busy, friendly and they were prompt to clean empty tables. The food is so good! I ordered the Vegan Breakfast Burrito, ate only half because it was so big. They have good music playing. Only one bathroom but it works. Excellent food, nice ambiance, super clean, obvious attention to detail. My chorizo breakfast burrito was delicious and, surprisingly, my macchiato was one of the best I've had in a long time. Not something I expected from a breakfast place. Not sure we'll be in Idlewild again anytime soon, but if we were, we would absolutely be coming back. WOWOWOW. This is a must if you're in Idyllwild. The best Mexican brunch I've ever had, inside or outside of SoCal. I got the chilaquiles verdes and it was tear-inducing good after a morning hike. The tortillas here are fried hot and fresh. Perfect amount of crispy! The verde sauce is the perfect balance of spicy and tangy. My partner got the chile verde omelette which also looked fantastic. We topped it off with two coffees for the perfect breakfast. This will absolutely be our new staple when coming through Idyllwild! read more

Most of the reviews show plastic / styrofoam (haven't seen in CA since the 90s...). If you eat there do they serve on plates? I thought Idyllwild would be eco friendly but there's so much plastic packaging at the restaurants!
