There is a new asian place in Idyllwild and it is 5 star. Came by Bamboo Bear for a little lunch to go and it is delicious. Bamboo Bear is located on the ground level of the fort next to the shoe / moccasin place. Look for the glowing Beckoning cat in the window, or follow your nose to this delicious little gem. The place opens at 11am and at 1045 there were already two people on line. The line moves fast as it is only 'to-go' and the large majority of the food items are already out and ready for pick up at 11am. Large Bowl with two entrees and one side Orange Chicken, tri-tip broccoli beef and chow mein: 5 star all around. The orange chicken is texturally perfect - hot, crispy chicken pieces tossed in a tangy, savory orange/garlic/ginger sticky sauce. Delicious and yummy. Tri-tip broccoli beef - tender slices of well-seasoned beef tossed with perfectly cooked green broccoli. Not swimming in gravy, not soggy at all. Very clean delicious flavor! Chow mein: 5 stars. Tossed with a little cabbage and lightly seasoned, the noodles are very thin, chewy and also have a great flavor. At 13.99 this is a good deal. Lumpia: 5 start and OMG. Delicious. Traditional (pork) filipino lumpia. Growing up in San Diego I had the opportunity to eat my fair share of traditional lumpia. Those who do not know, traditional lumpia is made with simple ingredients: ground port, carrot, onion, salt, pepper all wrapped in won-ton wrappers and fried. Although recipes may vary, the simpler the better, and when done right, lumpia is a deliciously fried savory treat. They lumpia at Bamboo Bear is done perfectly and is hot and fresh, ready to order. You have the option of eating it plain, or getting a side of sweet chili sauce. I recommend trying it plain, and also with the sauce to see which you prefer. If you have never tried lumpia before, I encourage you to check it out. Service: 5 stars. Great service at Bamboo Bear, and I think the people here are still figuring out their flow, so give them a little time and I assure you the (possible) wait is well worth it . A side note... I ordered a spam musubi but it did not make it into my bag. I did not ask for a receipt, so I cannot say whether or not I was charged, but I'll chalk this up to new business hiccup. I look forward to coming back to Bamboo Bear soon and ordering more delicious asian food!

You're not going to get a better deal on food in idyllwild. That small plate is LOADED to the brim! Great place to get takeout. It can get backed up at times, especially towards the end of the day when some things are running low and they have to make more. But, the staff was accommodating and let me try some stuff while I waited, and even gave me some bottled water for my pup which was very kind of them. I had the bbq pork- it was a touch on the fatty side but the taste reminded me of all the bbq places in Chinatown. My friend got the orange chicken- this looked to be their most popular dish by far and her bowl was so big she could only eat half. I tried some of hers and you really can't go wrong with it. Really great stuff, keep doing what you're doing

We found the MileHigh Cafe. What a culinary treat. My wife had the avocado toast with her fluffy eggs. They gave a ample serving of avocado, which is unusual. Service was also excellent- stopped by often to see what we needed and how we were going. Super friendly, felt like we've been coming for ages. We loved it so much we are going to try to come again for lunch.

My colleagues and I were in town for a conference and staying about a mile and a half from here. I…read moreran it and raved about the beef and crispy noodles and the calamari. On our journey to Palm Springs my team left the food choices to me since I'm picky. Lol. We showed up on a Wednesday night (note that they do not open Monday and Tuesday), around 4:40 PM. There was already a long line of individuals waiting to get in. There were about 15 people ahead of us. At opening, we were immediately sat down into the second dining room to the right of the restaurant. It gives a different vibe than the main room with its red bench seating and lantern ceiling. Although the benches were high, and the tables were a little low, we managed. Of course, we tried the complementary congee. Which I love, but my colleagues were not a big fan of. We ordered the calamari and the crispy beef noodle. We also ordered the shrimp and mango spring roll, the softshell crab and green papaya salad, and the pork belly lettuce wraps. The shining stars, for my colleagues were the calamari and crispy beef noodle. Followed by the shrimp and mango spring rolls and the softshell crab. The three of us did not enjoy the pork belly at all even though it came recommended. We actually only ate 2 pieces. The food overall was good although we wish we didn't get the pork or at least stuck to our goal of four main dishes. The waitress recommended we get one more and that's when we added the pork. Next time we will go with our gut instinct. One thing that was disappointing on this visit was that when we ordered drinks, one of them came out in a can. We were under the assumption it was a draft pour. For $14 it should have been noted that it is canned. The way that it is written into the menu no one would assume otherwise.

The food was the worst I've ever had. So much sugar in everything. Every sauce especially the coconut cream sauce for the calamari and the curry sauce and the sauce for the spring rolls. We ate it because we were starving but the after effects were awful. Our blood sugar spiked. What a let down. We also tried the brie and prosciutto, which was a bit on the salty side for us, but still enjoyable. The pizza bread was amazing, super fresh and flavorful. We had a great time, and they even surprised us with a complimentary birthday cake for my spouse, which was such a thoughtful touch. That level of service really stood out. When we arrived, I noticed every woman around me was being given a rose for Mother's Day -- except me. At first, I thought maybe they had run out of flowers, but it still honestly hurt and made me feel overlooked on a day that was already emotional for me. Service was also disappointing. We ordered drinks and I was hoping to enjoy mine before the food arrived, but somehow our appetizer came first and my drink still hadn't arrived. I eventually had to get up and address the issue myself and even switch waiters. About 10 minutes later the drinks finally came, and the waiter blamed the bartender for the delay. The food itself was delicious, which is why this experience was frustrating. I just wish the service and attention had matched the atmosphere and the way other guests were treated. On a special occasion like Mother's Day, feeling ignored while watching others receive better attention was really sad.
