Idyllwild, sitting above 5,000 feet, presents a stark contrast to the low desert region of the Colardo desert where Palm Springs is located. On recommendation of a local shop owner we chose La Casita for lunch. It is located in a quaint venue that looks nothing like a Mexican restaurant. The articture is what I would call mountain cabin, with much of the walls and ceiling covered in pine with a large rock fireplace. The food was excellent as was the service. I ordered a chili releno ala carte and it was excellent. Jan ordered the tamale dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. They serve Roberto's jalapeño and olive oil sauce. Roberto's Sauce is a vegan, and gluten-free, Peruvian aji amarillo-inspired hot sauce with a unique Japanese influence, featuring fresh jalapeno and serrano chilis. Very nice! We purchased a bottle in the restrauant and it is available on line. If you are ever in Palm Spring I recommend a trip to Idyllwild and a mea at La Casita.

The parking lot is small, so you might be parking on the street. There's plenty of street parking. SERVICE 5-stars Great service. Host. Food runners. Wait staff. All did great despite being slammed at lunch service. FOOD This is average good. Seems like some canned or frozen vegetables. Rice was not particularly exciting - a bit on the dry side. BEANS were well seasoned. Olive oil & Jalepeno salsa was 5 stars! Portions are Generous. VEGAN from Vegetarian menu. Most offerings in their vegetarian section can be made vegan by asking for "no dairy" Steamed chicken was tender, but no flavor. Their salsa (olive oil + jalepeno) saved the chicken. The outdoor patio is a lovely way to spend the afternoon. They allow pets outside on the patio. You may have to wait for tables along the edge to open up. PRICE You are a tourist supporting this beautiful little town. Enjoy eating out if you're in the mood for some touristy Mexican faire. Close to the center of town by foot.

Kids 1 egg breakfast: we got the scrambled eggs for this and it came out as a huge portion. More like three scrambled eggs. Prepared well, not very salty. Probably could've used a little extra salt. But I appreciated being able to do it to taste. Also comes w choice of bacon or sausage, and then choice of either fruit or potato item, and also a choice of bread item. Amazing value 5/5 The hollandaise on the Benedict was to die for her. I felt like the hashbrowns had a little bit of like a bacon fat type of taste to them? Maybe other people like them they were very crispy, but I didn't like something about the agent the hashbrowns were cooked in. One of the best pancakes (ordered as a side) that I've ever eaten in my life. The biscuit was also decent but doesn't come out hot. It's very fluffy. Not like a homestyle/Super buttery type of biscuit.

As a breakfast place, most people expect vegetarian (egg & dairy). They do offer vegetarian sausage. No vegan options except à la cart sides. Hash browns (oil cooked) Toast (jellies on table) [no GF toast option] Fruit (strawberries, cantaloupe, honeydew). Strawberries were inedibly old. Oatmeal is good. Large bowl comes with a side of fruit, nuts, brown sugar to top. Coffee was okay. Generic drip. Many tables inside (even on a nice weather morning) were packed, but it's beautiful outside. Dogs are allowed on the patio too!

I was craving a quick bite and saw that this spot had a lot of signage for appetizers, small bites and movie theater snacks. While I normally wouldn't be as inclined to grab food from a theater when there are so many restaurants around, I saw that this spot wasn't yet busy and knew I needed to grab something on the go so I gave them a chance. The theatre inside is actually adorable and old timey. Small but first the old town vibe. They had a lot of decor, some arcade looking games and general move theater decor. A gentleman was working behind the counter and was super friendly and nice. Told him I was just wanting to grab a hotdog to go and he whipped it up right away. This gave me time to make a pit bathroom stop and they were clean and easy to access from inside. Didn't have to buy a movie ticket to use, just purchase food or such. It was all an easy and nice experience for wanting something on the go and no fuss. Friendly service, cheap bites and a cute atmosphere. Mind you the simple hotdog was actually delicious and a 5/5. Wow! I'd love to come back to watch a movie and grab some small bites. Nice place, friendly staff and a cute vibe.

There's nothing particularly flashy about the selections, but what they serve, they serve well. The fish, burgers and chicken were all very good. Well presented and reasonably priced for the area. It tasted exactly like it looked, healthy. 3/5 Drinks were also great. I had the strawberry smash. It was excellent. It's served on ice and with real smashed strawberries inside. I also had the Elderflower drink which is served up. Both were great and we definitely order each of them again, and they were quite strong for only $15! Vibe is excellent, they have a lot counter seating, where you look out on the Forest (but also the parking lot below a bit). There's some TVs with spots going and they allowed dogs on the patio. The patio is nicely shaded and has a beautiful breeze, and also all different kinds of groups of people. They were groups of 20 Some things, groups of older folks, families with babies, one guy who's there, just with his dog. Service was so kind considering our group included a slightly fussy baby. We will definitely be back.

For some reason, we were definitely not expecting the bubble waffle to be a sandwich. Nonetheless, both were great to fuel us up for the afternoon. Workers are nice and so are their regulars! I asked if one was enough for me and the associate said "yes, I can barely finish one". Not sure how that was the case as I was left hungry after I finished mine and my coffee. While they were preparing my order I overheard a cook say they ran out of bacon, then was told my order was delayed because they had to go to the nearby restaurant to get some bacon. My biggest gripe though is that they prepared 2 of 5 dishes on plates and for some reason made the other 3 in to-go containers. (We were one of two groups seated to eat in the dining area). Then they gave is plastic ware to use resulting in me breaking two forks while I was cutting my chewy crepe. Nice concept but it did not deliver on expectations. Highlight was the Mexican coffee. That was actually pretty good. Unfortunately I will not be returning.
