From the moment we walked up to the door host to take us to our table we were treated kindly with a smile. Doorman was funny, I love his positive attitude. Our hostess Cali who brought our water and our olive and bread stick plate was super bubbly personality and nice to talk to, she was attentive to our needs at our table all night. This is my second time at Ferro and it's always a great time. The space has that cozy, warm, rustic vibe that fits Idyllwild perfectly. We visited Ferro Valentine's Day weekend on our first trip to Idyllwild. I made sure to make reservations a month in advance, and was happy I did because it was busy! Im sure the mixture of a holiday weekend and it being a Saturday was to blame, so definitely go on their website to make those reservations and plan ahead. Parking is limited right in front of the restaurant, but right across the street you have ample parking options, just make sure to arrive a little early to make some time to park. We arrived 5min. Early and checked in at the host who was very welcoming! I did make a request on my reservation for a table near the fireplace, but they took us upstairs and stuck us in a tight fitting corner. This table was against the window with my seat against the wall with no room to push my chair back comfortably and my boyfriend's seat right up against a decorative floating glass wall...which directly behind THAT was a bathroom. It definitely didnt scream "romantic dinner spot" but we rolled with it. Our waiter was great and very knowledgeable of the menu. We ended up getting the Jameson ginger mule and Fernet Francisco Willet Rye Cask. We also ordered a Caesar Salad, Zuppa di Pesce and Capesante Scottate to start. Main dishes were the Spaghetti e Polpette & Lasagne al Cinghiale e Manzo. They delivered complimentary olives/2 pretzel like sticks/ ball of butter. Shortly after that we received our drinks that were good but the mule was definitely on the sour side. Appetizers came out maybe 15min. later. I got the cup of Zuppa and it was A LOT... we shared that and still didnt finish. The Caesar Salad had freshly made Caesar dressing and topped with an anchovy filet- it was delicious. The scallops were definitely good, but there were only 3 and on the smaller side of what we imagined for the price compared to other fine dining spots we've been to. It took a bit for our main dishes to come out, but again, it was Valentine's Day. The Lasagna and spaghetti were SO good and had a good amount of portion to it. We were sad that we were so full, because we just couldnt fit dessert in when we really wanted to try the tiramisu. Our waiter got us our check super fast, we paid, and left. Made reservations for an early dinner. There are different areas to dine but only the 2nd floor was left available. The restaurant appears small from the outside but once we entered it opened up to a cozy and intimate space. We were greeted right away as we entered and our server was friendly as she took our orders. The menu had amazing options. We were also given a happy hour menu which i couldn't resist in ordering wine from. Received complementary bread sticks, butter and olives while we waited. Our food choices were delicious. We selected to start off with insalata burrata and for our mains lasagna, marinara with mushrooms, pepperoni pizza and the linguine with chicken. The dishes were all made perfectly. We even ordered desserts, sorbets and the bread pudding, and totally forgot to take pictures since they were devoured within minutes. Didn't think we'd find one of our most memorable Italian dining experiences in Idyllwild. Coming from the East coast (Jersey specifically) where Italian food is plentiful our hunt to find anything similar can be a chore..but we hit gold with Ferro! We were seated upstairs, where the mood lighting, candlelight, and charming old-home feel blended beautifully with the modern décor. The ambiance is nice, the patio is fine but underwhelming with all of the reviews saying how nice it is. Service was good the whole time. My burrata salad was fresh and good, the Caesar salad was flavorless. Our entrees came out looking delicious but it turned out to be one of the worst entrees we've had. Stumbled upon FERRO while walking around Idyllwild for a mid-week staycation. We saw it had a nice front patio where we could bring baby strollers and was pleasantly surprised when they offered us seating in their back patio. The back patio is really beautiful and secluded with lots of shade and pine trees all around. We ordered oysters, jumbo prawns, breakfast pizza, broccolini, clam linguine, carpaccio and 8 ounce rib eye. The standouts for us were the prawns, pizza and broccolini. They make their bread and pastas in house and it tasted really good. The other dishes were solid but not our favorite, with the steak being over-salted and a bit too rare. I rather have my steak more rare than medium (ordered medium rare), but it was too rare for others at the table. The cut they used was also very weird to me. Must more like a rougher filet tenderloin than a rib eye. I've had a lot of steaks in my life and that wasn't like a rib eye at all. Came here as part of our family trip to enjoy dinner in idyllwild. My mother and her friend ordered the sea bass while my husband and I tried the braised rabbit. The food was great, well seasoned, and cooked well. The only real downsides we had was the service and ambiance. While our server was very nice and attentive, none of the staff who came by assisted with getting some more light to where we were seated. We had only one candle on our table and no other light source as the umbrella of our table was blocking the other sources of light. It was very difficult to see the menu and also see what we were actually eating. Honestly, if this was addressed as we told multiple staff members if we could get another candle or light source and still got ignored, it would have made this so much better. This restaurant is perfect for a quiet dinner under the stars on front porch or indoors where it's cooler. Located a little past the Welcome to Idyllwild banner, on the right side you'll also find store-front or plenty of free parking in the lot across the street. No streetlights though so be careful walking back to car. We used our cellphone flashlights. Strongly recommend making reservations on OpenTable as the place is popular. We did for 7:30 pm and happy our request to sit on front porch was accommodated. It also had a fire pit which they lit for us and it wasn't hot at all just the perfect ambiance for this mountain gem. Hostess was busy hopping - she worked hard dealing with people who didn't have rez, finding proper menus, getting drink menus to us when they ran out, lighting the fire pit and basically being a good first impression. Our server was nice too and very patient with us deciding what to drink and eat. Busgirl kept our waters filled through entire meal which was slurped up due to altitude keeping us hydrated. The food- 5-stars see pics below- margarita pizza, linguine with clams, seriously delectable fare and perfectly cooked. A very nice wine list to accompany and the final bill wasn't bad at all, We didn't have room for dessert but they do offer it. We decided to try this Italian restaurant to celebrate my birthday while visiting town. There aren't many Italian options in the area, but this place looked promising. We arrived without a reservation and were seated quickly by the bar, which was convenient and had a nice vibe. Heard this was the go-to spot in Idyllwild so went to dinner here. The service was tremendously fast and friendly. There is a front patio, an interior, and another patio out back. They have a few parking spots on front but also a lot across the way. We had their non alcoholic drinks and they were very tasty. They brought over some crispy bread sticks which were good but we also ordered their fresh bread. This bread was fantastic! Highly recommend. Then we got the margarita pizza and the carbonara. The pizza was good. The highlight was the sauce for sure. The carbonara was superrrrr cheesy though and made it tough to eat continuously. Food, good but then everything is lack of a little tiny bit something compared to my previous experience. The bread used to be crispier outside with a stronger buttery aroma. It's still great and less greasy outside now so I can't say I have complaints. It's great bread but I was expecting something different (like what I had here before) My linguine was really great texture. Flavor is on spot. Mine is like a vegan dish and I just wish the veggies would be a bit more than what I got. Carrot is slightly undercooked for my taste but again the pasta itself was one of the best The burrata dish -$18 for a tiny tiny bit. I don't think it was a whole burrata more like half if I am right. I was expecting a bit balsamic vinaigrette drizzle but don't think I saw or tasted any. It was okay. I would not order it (husband wanted it) Now on to the pizza, it's like 9 out of 10 but again, something seemed to change. The crust is not how I remember. It's crispy but lack of a bit chewiness that I remembered (I have had at least 5 different pizza here before). The cheese combo on the pizza was great and extra black pepper would be awesome The ginger shrub, which is their seasonal drink, tastes refreshing but too much ice in my opinion so the taste kinda got watered down. Celebrated my husband's birthday tonight at this rustic modern Italian restaurant for our last night in Idyllwild. I booked a reservation for the back patio through Open Table. I'm glad i did bc it looked like it was filling up with customers quick at 6PM. Instead of your usual bread and butter, we got breadsticks, some time of gourmet butter and olives which was nice. We went straight to our mains. I had the branzino which was cooked to perfection and very tasty. I enjoyed the grilled veggies and i think it was grits that also came with it. I paired it with a rosé which was light and refreshing. My hubby had the linguine bolognese which he enjoyed very much. Pasta was al dente and the sauce was seasoned well. He had an IPA for drinks. Literally the best spaghetti bolognese I've ever had. No idea how they did it, but the meat was perfect. The pizza was amazing. I added the prime rib as an addition and it was a great choice. The service felt very personal. Our waiter described the menu very well and even left us with a Happy Anniversary card and dessert. I made a reservation and noted it was our anniversary. We were able to sit outside with the fire place. It felt very private as it was only us out there. Downside is that it gets dark quick and your main light source is the fire. read more
