We decided to give this place a try, and to be honest, we weren't expecting anything extraordinary. We couldn't have been more wrong. Since we didn't have reservations, we were seated at the bar, which ended up being a blessing in disguise. Our bartender and server, I believe her name was Katie, was outstanding. She was friendly, attentive, and made the entire experience even more enjoyable. We started with a couple of glasses of wine and the Insalata Burrata with heirloom tomatoes, fresh burrata, basil, olive oil, prosecco vinegar, local microgreens, Maldon salt, and freshly ground black pepper. It was incredibly fresh, beautifully balanced, and the perfect way to begin the meal. For our entrées, we ordered the Lasagne di Verdure with seasonal vegetables, house-made ricotta, mozzarella, marinara, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. The house-made ricotta was absolutely incredible and elevated the entire dish, making it an easy favorite. We also shared the Salame e Funghi pizza with San Marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, and mushrooms. The thin, wood-fired crust had the perfect texture, and the pizza easily rivaled--if not surpassed--many restaurants that specialize in pizza. To finish the evening, we couldn't pass on the Torta di Nocciole, a flourless hazelnut cake served with vanilla gelato, a drizzle of local raw honey, and freshly grated nutmeg. It was the perfect ending to an outstanding meal--rich, balanced, and absolutely delicious. From the exceptional service to the thoughtfully prepared food, every part of our visit exceeded our expectations. We only wish there were a location closer to home. I used to think this was the best restaurant in Idyllwild, but over the years a few newer spots have taken that title for me. On this visit, the bread was a bit disappointing. It used to be fresh and delicious, but this time it tasted like it had been sitting out for a while--parts of it has the texture of croutons. The risotto was also underwhelming. It lacked flavor, and the vegetables were cut into such large pieces that it was difficult to get a balanced bite of everything. We only managed a few bites before deciding not to finish it. If I'm honest, Trader Joe's makes a better risotto. That said, the salad and the mussels were both very enjoyable, and the back porch remains one of the restaurant's biggest highlights. The atmosphere is beautiful and still makes it a lovely place to relax and dine. I also thought it was a very sweet touch that the servers brought water out for the dogs on the patio--it made the experience feel especially welcoming for pet owners. Stumbled upon FERRO while walking around Idyllwild for a mid-week staycation. We saw it had a nice front patio where we could bring baby strollers and was pleasantly surprised when they offered us seating in their back patio. The back patio is really beautiful and secluded with lots of shade and pine trees all around. We ordered oysters, jumbo prawns, breakfast pizza, broccolini, clam linguine, carpaccio and 8 ounce rib eye. The standouts for us were the prawns, pizza and broccolini. They make their bread and pastas in house and it tasted really good. The other dishes were solid but not our favorite, with the steak being over-salted and a bit too rare. I rather have my steak more rare than medium (ordered medium rare), but it was too rare for others at the table. The cut they used was also very weird to me. Must more like a rougher filet tenderloin than a rib eye. I've had a lot of steaks in my life and that wasn't like a rib eye at all. Besides nitpicking the steak, everything else was really good, great ambiance, great service, and a live jazz band on a Wednesday. Really enjoyed it and would come back. read more

Came here as part of our family trip to enjoy dinner in idyllwild. My mother and her friend ordered the sea bass while my husband and I tried the braised rabbit. The food was great, well seasoned, and cooked well. The only real downsides we had was the service and ambiance. While our server was very nice and attentive, none of the staff who came by assisted with getting some more light to where we were seated. We had only one candle on our table and no other light source as the umbrella of our table was blocking the other sources of light. It was very difficult to see the menu and also see what we were actually eating. Honestly, if this was addressed as we told multiple staff members if we could get another candle or light source and still got ignored, it would have made this so much better. We visited Ferro Valentine's Day weekend on our first trip to Idyllwild. I made sure to make reservations a month in advance, and was happy I did because it was busy! Im sure the mixture of a holiday weekend and it being a Saturday was to blame, so definitely go on their website to make those reservations and plan ahead. Parking is limited right in front of the restaurant, but right across the street you have ample parking options, just make sure to arrive a little early to make some time to park. We arrived 5min. Early and checked in at the host who was very welcoming! I did make a request on my reservation for a table near the fireplace, but they took us upstairs and stuck us in a tight fitting corner. This table was against the window with my seat against the wall with no room to push my chair back comfortably and my boyfriend's seat right up against a decorative floating glass wall...which directly behind THAT was a bathroom. It definitely didnt scream "romantic dinner spot" but we rolled with it. Our waiter was great and very knowledgeable of the menu. We ended up getting the Jameson ginger mule and Fernet Francisco Willet Rye Cask. We also ordered a Caesar Salad, Zuppa di Pesce and Capesante Scottate to start. Main dishes were the Spaghetti e Polpette & Lasagne al Cinghiale e Manzo. They delivered complimentary olives/2 pretzel like sticks/ ball of butter. Shortly after that we received our drinks that were good but the mule was definitely on the sour side. Appetizers came out maybe 15min. later. I got the cup of Zuppa and it was A LOT... we shared that and still didnt finish. The Caesar Salad had freshly made Caesar dressing and topped with an anchovy filet- it was delicious. The scallops were definitely good, but there were only 3 and on the smaller side of what we imagined for the price compared to other fine dining spots we've been to. It took a bit for our main dishes to come out, but again, it was Valentine's Day. The Lasagna and spaghetti were SO good and had a good amount of portion to it. We were sad that we were so full, because we just couldnt fit dessert in when we really wanted to try the tiramisu. Our waiter got us our check super fast, we paid, and left. Located a little past the Welcome to Idyllwild banner, on the right side you'll also find store-front or plenty of free parking in the lot across the street. No streetlights though so be careful walking back to car. We used our cellphone flashlights. Strongly recommend making reservations on OpenTable as the place is popular. We did for 7:30 pm and happy our request to sit on front porch was accommodated. It also had a fire pit which they lit for us and it wasn't hot at all just the perfect ambiance for this mountain gem. Hostess was busy hopping - she worked hard dealing with people who didn't have rez, finding proper menus, getting drink menus to us when they ran out, lighting the fire pit and basically being a good first impression. Our server was nice too and very patient with us deciding what to drink and eat. Busgirl kept our waters filled through entire meal which was slurped up due to altitude keeping us hydrated. The food- 5-stars see pics below- margarita pizza, linguine with clams, seriously delectable fare and perfectly cooked. A very nice wine list to accompany and the final bill wasn't bad at all, We didn't have room for dessert but they do offer it. They also have a little bar inside with more dining tables and a large area in the back of house with more tables and nice little lights for ambiance. They have t-shirts for sale but I'd recommend ordering them ahead of time because manager has to get them from a storage area as they are not displayed. Lost a star due to the slightly longish wait for the wine, so next time we will order that first while we peruse menu for the entree. My wife and I went here to celebrate our 20th anniversary and it turned out to be a disaster. First, lighting upstairs was so dim we needed a phone to read the menu. Second, we ordered the bread and butter and the crust of the bread was extremely salty. Third, my wife ordered the half chicken and I ordered the rabbit. Her half chicken came out looking burnt but was raw and bloody inside. We mentioned this to the waitress and she said "what do you want me to do" we had her it take it to the kitchen to be cut in quarters. She brings my it back and rudely says it's not raw. We use our phone lights to discover it was clearly raw. I asked to speak to a manger.and the manager asked if I wanted it further cooked or removed from .my bill. I mentioned if it was recoooked it would turn dry so I asked it to be removed from the bill. No apologies we're made and we paid and walked out. The rabbit was dry and low on flavor. Ferro is just ok. The pizza looks nice but tastes bland. The pasta is just ok. And to top it off, it's pricey so it definitely feels like it's not worth it. I was told by some locals that there are better places to go eat but I decided to try Ferro because of the reviews. read more

Came to Idyllwild for our anniversary and booked dinner at FERRO. First off, their service was great! Their staff were all kind and welcoming. We were sat by the little fireplace by the front door and it was such a welcoming ambiance. Their food was also very tasty. I got their eggplant parmesan with spaghetti and my husband got the wild boar and prime rib lasagna. It was all cooked to perfection. Their drink menu is kind of limited to wines and some beer.
