Giving this 5 stars because I found on yelp, took three co workers and while it wasn't perfect, it was a great restaurant, with great service and a more personable feel. Five stars if the service would be better. The restaurant focuses on American cuisine with a French hint. Food was great but service was disappointing. Let me first talk about the service. First, when I checked in the receptionist asked me to wait for a while for the bar seating and she would seat me in a few minutes. I felt strange as there were vacant seats, but I did as what she said. I sat outside for ~10min but got no response from here, so I went inside and asked her and now she told me I could sit at the vacant seat... Weird. Then when I ordered the food, I was told that if I want some bread, I had to "order the $11 pan con tomate and the kitchen would take care of it by not putting on the cheese or tomato sauce on it". Ridiculous. It is also strange that an American Michelin restaurant does not offer some (plain) bread for guests. For the food, I got the Caesar salad and Cassoulet. The greens were fresh and the pickled egg, which tasted sour-sweet, was interesting. The duck leg confit was perfectly cooked. The skin was super crispy and the meat had a nice smoky flavor. The petite salad on the side was good as well. But I was expecting more beans and sausage. read more

After learning about The Strand during Michelin's published reviews of Orlando restaurants, we were very curious to try it out. Consider us forever fans now after having dined there three or four times now The quality and care of the dishes, the service ,and even the new bar that opened up next-door have become some of our favorite places to frequent. While the capacity is limited, especially in the restaurant, it's well worth the wait if you can book a reservation in advance or try to show up when they open and grab a seat at the bar (which I believe may be open seating around 5 PM but not entirely sure about that). The cocktails here and the food offerings vary every time we go, and they always nail the flavor combinations. The textures and presentations of the dishes are almost as if you're in a tasting menu as opposed to à la carte dining if that makes any sense; it feels very exclusive, like you're in a chef's private dining room! And because of the smaller space, the noise levels are usually fairly low, which we always appreciate anywhere we go to eat. We can't wait to go back and highly recommend The Strand for anyone who hasn't tried it out yet. Support local and check it out this weekend. You will love it. read more

Kinda loud, if you don't like that, might not be your cup of tea, but to me that's always a good thing in a restaurant, quiet restaurants freak me out. Drinks were ok, got an Old Fashioned. Dinner was ok. Had the Oysters and Guava Pork Belly for apps, our mains were the Strand Burger, Steak Frites, and Braised Beef Short Ribs, (they had sold out of the Duck Confit), and our dessert was the Chocolate olive oil cake. Everything was kinda eh, my Braised Beef Short Rib and the Steak were underseasoned. For the hype behind this place, was a bit dissapointed. But that's just my opinion. read more

Went here on Feb 13 for an early Valentine's Day dinner. 8:30pm reservation, great service, and cozy atmosphere. Perfect date night location if you can get in or sit at the bar. Reservations strongly recommended since it is a small space. Food was fresh and delicious. Menu felt thoughtful and hand crafted. We ordered the guava pork belly, baked oysters, steak frites, and the mustard crusted salmon. Loved the house aioli that came with the fries. This was such a fun and unique dining experience! The menu changes frequently, so you never know what to expect, but there's something for everyone. You usually need to book a reservation weeks in advance, but we were lucky to find a last-minute reservation. We ordered the burrata and pan con tomate for appetizers. They were light and fresh. For my entree, I ordered a Caesar salad, which had a unique pickled egg and the dressing was the perfect amount. For dessert, we ordered the coconut tiramisu, which was incredible. It was smooth, rich and moist. I'm not a big fan of coconut, but the flavors balanced each other so well. If you haven't tried The Strand, I highly recommend it! read more

The Strand is a modern American restaurant with Southern inspiration that is on the Michelin guide and had been on my Yelp bookmarks for several years. Glad I finally made it. The restaurante is an extraterrestrial in the middle of Mills Ave, filled with Asian restaurantes and cafes, and bars. Prices are a little on the high side, but I felt it was fairly priced overall, especially for a restaurant of this caliber that's listed in the Michelin guide. Here's what we ordered: - Pork belly - cooked with a perfect balance of crisp and tender. The pork belly + cabbage + pistachio + tajin was SUPER flavorful, an unexpected combination that I absolutely loved. I would come back here only for this appetizer and a pint of beer. - Octopus entrée - their special for the night, charred just right, and paired with the glaze that surrounded it. - Snapper cakes - tasty, but I wish there had been more fish and less flour. I would've enjoyed more protein in the mix and some burnt edges for contrast. Ps: We didn't have space for dessert. But many people around us were ordering the key lime pie, which looked amazing. 4.5 Stars The Strand is consistently one of the best restaurants in all of Orlando is a key part of the fabric that makes up the tapestry of Mills. They've been around for over a decade and consistently serve up farm-to-table dishes that are fresh and tasty. The menu changes up regularly and I've always enjoyed every offering. Occasionally, I find the steaks to be a bit bland and have to add salt; but I've honestly enjoyed every dish I've had here. I loved them so much I was very tempted to try to get a reservation for the next night just to have salad! I had the fried fish. The fish was red fish and was very good. A true local gem. What feels like a little hole in the wall on mills was filled with absorbent delicious food! A group of 3 girls we we're able to get a table day of but there was also some bar seating available but highly recommend booking in advance. We started with the pork belly which was my absolute favorite thing on the menu it was delicious! Eating it with the slaw was a perfect combo of salty and sweet. The sauce under the fried mushrooms was excellent! A creamy delicious touch to the dish. We also had the Brussel sprout salad which was so good I didn't even have time to take a picture. It had fresh kale, apples, and a delicious dressing! I would definitely re order this as well. We ended with her duck and all were full and happy. A small local restaurant off of Mills Ave. we absolutely loved this place. We came here for the first time and had made a reservation. Our name was on our table with a little note that we were celebrating our anniversary. It was a nice, personal touch from the staff. The restaurant is small and it does get loud just due to the acoustics. We had ordered the cab sav wine which was a little different as they used natural ingredients. We were able to taste it before we committed. We got an appetizer, the guava pork belly. I'm not a fan of pork belly but this was delicious. A little sweet from the guava and the sear on the pork added great texture. For our entree, we ordered the Alabama chicken and the coffee crusted New York strip. The Alabama chicken was full of flavor and not dry. It had a good crust which added a nice texture. It came with a side with crispy Mac and cheese and the corn succotash which added a good balance to the chicken. The chicken itself had a white bbq sauce that was delicious! The coffee crusted New York strip was cooked to perfection. The coffee gassed a good earthy flavor. It came with some potato bravas and shaved pickled zucchini which combined with the steak was a good balance. Our entire experience and meal was definitely worth the price. read more

Easy 5/5. In downtown Orlando, I think in the Mills 50 area. Foodies will appreciate The Strand and its New American menu. The lamb bolognese appetizer was fantastic, probably our favorite item of the meal. We had the burrata and crispy brussel and apple for our other appetizers. Our main meals included the coffee-rubbed NY strip which was hearty and nicely textured with the coffee rub and the alabama chicken which was good but a bit dry and the fried mac and cheese was over done. The service was friendly. Cool vibe and atmosphere; looked like the space has been refurbished from a previous life with the original high windows left intact. We were at The Strand in early December and enjoyed watching The Grinch that Stole Christmas with Jim Carrey and Chevy Chase's Christmas Vacation on the TV on top of the bar with the sound turned all the way down. read more

Pros: Lovely little ambiance, with a contemporary little Southern greenhouse vibe. Service was so good. The place is so small that our server only had a few tables, so make sure to tip well. Food was dynamite. Everything was cooked very well, and even though the menu changes frequently, all of the meal components went together very nicely. Cons: No cons. Tips: This place is very small and resies go very fast, so be ready. Orlando has a lot of hyped up restaurants, but very few of them have been hyped up as much as The Strand has been. It has been featured on many lists across many websites, it has been awarded by many local periodicals, and it has been placed on the Michelin Guide since it started in Orlando. That's a lot of hype. I decided to finally come and see what the fuss was all about one day. We made a reservation for right when it opened at 5PM, and there was a line out the door of other like-minded people. We shuffled in, got seated, and started browsing the small but very intention, and delicious, menu. I ordered a mocktail. I forgot what is what exactly, but I remembered that I liked it a lot. They did a good job. The ambiance of the building was very nice. It's a super small dining room, and the giant front windows let in just enough light to elegantly light the tables, the plant décor, the open concept tiny little kitchen. It was very nice. Classy. The service was good, too. We had a guy, and he was very friendly. He didn't come by too often, but just often enough to provide us a very pleasant experience. As for the food, the menu was simultaneously small, but widely varied. I believe that anyone of every food preference could find something good to eat here. Their chicken dish even sounded good enough to get me to consider it, and I never eat chicken dishes when I'm out and about. We started off with the Snapper Cakes (comeback sauce). These cakes were wide, pressed, crispy, bursting with snapper flavor, and that Mississippi-esque comeback sauce was a welcome zing to the whole dish. A lovely start! Next up were the Fried Local Mushrooms (dashi aioli, honey, togarashi). They were definitely tempura-esque, in that they were delectably crispy and delicate. The mushrooms were solid and meaty and cooked through. The meatiness was accentuated by the aioli and countered by the sweetness of the honey. Really was the most surprising bite of food I've had in a long time. Very impressed with this dish. Next was some even more fish, the Red Snapper (blackened with lime compound butter, Anson Mills cheese grits, seasonal vegetables). Per-fect-ly blackened. Still moist throughout. The grits were a little bland, but perhaps on purpose, because it helped tamp down the seasoning from the fish. A perfect pairing! And I also got to try the Seared Duck Breast (eggplant panzanella, pickled ramp, peach & white wine reduction). Perfectly cooked. I cannot believe how this place nailed every single protein 100% on the cook. A nice pairing with the eggplant. You gotta mix it all up in one bite, though, with the reduction, too, as that duck needs that fruit to help balance it out. Lovely. Overall, this place shook me to my core with how good it was. It didn't rely on any groundbreaking techniques or and trendy dishes or anything, but the elevated Southern dishes they did provide us were nailed 100% and just left you with no critiques. I will say, if you're considering coming here, and you see a menu dish you're really wanting, don't wait. Since I've been, half of the dishes I had are already not on the menu anymore. The Strand is one of the true highlights of the Mills 50 district in Orlando, where we had some farm-to-table goodness that tantalized our senses and brought us to a place of spiritual purity. When it comes to Negronis, The Strand's bar is a cut above the rest. Their expertly crafted cocktails are a testament to the bar's skill and dedication. This place has such a vintage 60s nouveau design and vibe, especially between the chairs and the bar, with the old black-and-white TVs. For food, the wasabi deviled eggs were delicious, while the quail special was tantalizingly wonderful. My wife specifically loved that they put her name on a small chalkboard since her name was on the reservation. We were made to feel at home and welcome at the Strand. The dirty martini was very light and refreshing-- they make their own brine and it shows. The tiramisu was not too sweet, very balanced with the tart raspberry. Yohan provided awesome service. I paid a recent visit to The Strand with friends! I love this spot for great local food and drinks! It has been a few years since we've visited, and I'm so glad we came back. Parking can be tricky on Mills so we parked on one of the side streets and walked over. It was easy to make reservations on Resy, but keep in mind that there is a cancellation fee if you don't show up. We were seated right away with our reservation. The drink menu is limited but feels carefully thought out. I ordered a cocktail which was served in a cute glass and was tasty! We shared a few appetizers and I had the salmon for dinner. The highlight was the desserts, especially the chocolate cheesecake! Happy to come back here with friends for a great meal and conversation at this cozy restaurant! read more

Our experience at the Strand was spectacular! While the interior is a bit small, it is furnished very well. Not too cramped and plenty of room to breathe. We didn't feel like we were overwhelmed with conversations of other guests. The music wasn't too loud and the sound of the kitchen cooking food for the guests was the perfect white noise to complete the ambience. While we waited for our food we ordered the Aperol Spritz, which was a good classic cocktail for our evening. Not as bitter as we were expecting with more focus on the citrus flavor and very enjoyable. We ordered the Creole Barbecue Shrimp for our appetizer. Everything about this item was phenomenal and it left us wanting more. We would love to learn how to make something similar for a meal at home. The gnocchi patty on the bottom is complimented very well with the sauce and the shrimp was seasoned to perfection. For our entrees we ordered the Seared Duck Breast and the Demi-glazed Short Rib special they had at the time. Our favorite of the two was the short rib which melted in our mouths. The duck was good as well and the sauce with both meals was what completed the experience. Whoever makes the sauces for the food items definitely knows what they are doing to ensure a proper pairing with each dish. To finish off our meal, we ordered the Tiramisu. We were expecting a more coffee-forward flavor but were pleasantly surprised when it had more of a focus on chocolate and hazelnut. The ladyfingers/breading wasn't too soaked and everything about this item was layered to perfection. One of the best tiramisus we have ever had! Our server Nick was phenomenal. Wowza! I totally loved my experience at The Strand! In fact, I'm looking forward to going again and introducing others to this local, top-notch restaurant. A vision of The Strand is to be that small neighborhood restaurant with the purpose of becoming an everyday tradition in the larger fabric of Orlando...and I definitely felt that. Upon entering, we were seated at a table with the name of our party written on a cute mini-chalkboard placed on said table. It was a cute, hospitable touch. Our server was very professional, warm, and knowledgeable...he made our evening an absolute delight. Locals were enjoying themselves at the cozy bar while a group of diverse diners, representing the fabric of Orlando, dined inside, as well as outside. For starters, we ordered the Radicchio, which is an arugula & radicchio, grapefruit, mint, crispy shallots, & a delicious honey mustard vinaigrette. I enjoyed the fact that the salad was not over-dressed. The bitter radicchio and peppery arugula were well-balanced with the sweet notes of the vinaigrette while the grapefruit brought a bright, citrusy note. It was just a salad, but to me, it was so delicious! We also ordered the Steak Frites and the Blackened Red Snapper w/Cheese Grits. The grilled flank steak was served with a very flavorful chimichurri while the Red Snapper dish was an elevated nod to what reminded me of a familiar southern, low-country dish. The only thing I regret is not saving enough room for dessert. But, we'll definitely be back for dessert soon. I reviewed the liquor menu and saw Beefeater gin on the drink menu, so I ordered a dirty martini with Beefeater but was told they make their martinis with another gin. Ok, I can drink that other brand. After it finally came (took about 15 minutes), I took a sip to find it tasted like bologna. I'm guessing it was the brine as my husband's dry martini tasted fine. No biggie. When our server passed by me, I tried to make eye contact to get his attention. He stopped and I meekly asked if it was possible to remake the drink without the brine. He said he could but they would have to charge me for another drink. I had had 3 small sips to see if it was just my imagination or taste buds, and my husband took a micro-sip to confirm the taste was really off. The glass was nearly full, but fine, we'll pay for another martini and left the first drink on the table for the remainder of the dinner. I ordered the fried fish of the day: cod. When it finally came, my first bite was without any condiments such as malt vinegar or tarter. The strong smell of fish hit me before it even made it to my mouth. I've never in my life had cod taste so fishy, which I know is generally a sign the fish is old. Additionally, half of all the strips (there were about six 3-5 inch long strips) had dark brown streaks -- visible even through batter coating. Knowing they wouldn't replace my drink (opting to simply charge me for another one), I decided not to say anything because this was already proving to be an expensive meal at this point. I asked my husband to try it, and he agreed it was very fishy. I ended up eating a lot of the fries and coleslaw instead, as well as some of my husband's burger, which was actually pretty good. I did happen to try the pan con tomate as an appetizer, and it was actually incredible. I'm just really disappointed with the quality of the fish and charging me for a new drink instead of simply replacing my martini. read more

We were so excited to try The Strand! The reviews online were stellar, an urban farm to table concept, sounded right up our alley, but it didn't live up to the hype for me or my husband. This restaurant is located on Mills, so parking isn't bad, but can be challenging at times. The restaurant itself is very small but cozy decor. Our server was very polite and knowledgeable about the menu, but we were not impressed with the food. The presentation was good, but the taste was very average to us. I got the duck cassoulet (confit duck leg), and although I heard someone from the table over raving about it the last time they were here (yes, the tables are very close), I found mine to be very dry. My husband's snapper was better, but definitely not as good as we expected for the reputation and the price. This does not impact my husband or I, because we eat everything and thankfully have no allergies or dietary restrictions, but they have a very clear policy of no substitutions. I stopped in here for a quick happy hour bite before heading out for dinner with colleagues on a business trip in Orlando - yes, I was trying to hit as many Michelin-mentioned restaurants as possible in that one week! I sat at the bar and the server was super attentive, took the time to explain some specials, and walked me through their wine selections. As I said, I came in right at open to hit up a quick bite and the place was empty, but well appointed. I loved the open kitchen as I enjoy watching the "sausage get made." It's a small space, but looks great. I had a short rib appetizer that was on special that combined with carrots and hummus. I was not expecting the flavors I got, and was pleasantly surprised.
