Two Words . . VERY RICH I keep forgetting that this restaurant is essentially serving Southern style comfort food in an upscale setting. Southern comfort food as a general rule just doesn't sit well with me anymore and I'm going to be very transparent and bare my soul a little bit here but here goes . . . Ever since being on GLP1's, I've developed a really complicated relationship with comfort food. Foods that are rich, buttery, creamy or fatty now hit me completely differently than they used to. It's almost like my body immediately goes into shutdown mode afterwards. I feel heavy, exhausted and like I've instantly ballooned even if the portions themselves aren't massive. For the longest time I honestly thought it was simply the richness of the food itself but now I realize it's because my digestion just can't process heavier comfort foods the same way anymore. Suddenly... it all makes sense. The food itself here is VERY good. Properly seasoned, well prepared, beautifully presented... absolutely no complaints there whatsoever. I simply have to become more mindful and strategic now with my menu selections no matter WHERE I dine. I chose the Creekstone Farm's NY Strip with the fabulous bone marrow which I KNOW is supposed to be incredibly nutrient rich and good for you... but honestly... it just about put me under afterwards. This dinner happened thanks to Ronnald M. and his sister Teris and it was our pre-opera dinner outing before seeing the fabulous Merry Widow at the Dr. Phillips Center. Visited for breakfast, but the experience was extremely disappointing. Despite clearly advertised hours starting at 9 AM, at 10 AM the restaurant was effectively not operating as open. Only a hostess and a chef were present, and we were restricted to just a few small tables near the entrance, while the rest of the empty dining area was off-limits. We were told the restaurant was "still closed," which directly contradicted their posted hours. The overall attitude made us feel unwelcome, and there was little to no effort to provide even basic service. It felt more like we were inconveniencing the staff than being received as guests. If the restaurant is not prepared or staffed to offer proper breakfast service, it should not be advertised as such. read more

The deviled eggs are scrumptious and make a great start or could be whole meal. The have both fresh and fried jalapeno but aren't spicy! The roasted salmon was excellent with cauliflower and couscous. I also had their daily Monroe punch which truly packed a punch made from gin and fresh juices. I came to The Monroe after a final with my girlfriends, and it was the perfect way to unwind. We had been here before and fell in love with the truffle fries, so we had to come back. The herb aioli was unlike anything I've had before and honestly made the dish. We also tried the General Tso's cauliflower. The flavor was great, but the breading was a little raw inside. We sat at the bar during lunchtime and loved the calm, laid-back vibe. The aesthetic is beautiful, and the service is always great. Got sat right away on a busy Easter brunch day & booked up reservations. Place is spacious with lots of detailed decor throughout the whole place Shrimp & grits were tasty, liked the Tabasco butter and nicely cooked shrimp Chicken & waffles had 3 pieces of thigh meat and 2 small waffles. 1 piece was gristly and not so good French toast looked fancy and tasted ok The star of the show was the white meat chicken tenders and fries on the kid's menu. I went to the Monroe for my birthday this year and I thought it would be a much better experience. The food was OK but nothing to brag about. I think my favorite part of the meal was the warm potato salad. My party and I tried several different items on the menu as you can see from the photos The meatloaf was pretty good and the fried chicken was delicious and everything was really tasty but just not worth the money that I paid for it. I wouldn't go all the way out to a restaurant just to have fried chicken. The cocktails were mostly ice and I probably wouldn't order cocktails there again or maybe I would try to order a different cocktail overall I didn't have that great of an experience which is unfortunate cause I was really looking forward to the place and disappointed me The service was good. I never really have major complaints. All I expect my waiter to do is bring my food and take my credit card at the end of the night. Ambience was good. For food, I ordered the Chicken Caesar Wrap and it was so good. I wasn't a huge fan of the chips it came with, so I also got a side of truffle fries and wow... those fries were everything. This time around, a stellar experience was had!! We decided to go to The Monroe on Veteran's Day and we're able to make a reservation. We ended up at a nice spot beside a window, near the bar, with a view of a TV screen. We perused the lunch menu and ordered the seasonal sweet potato latte and a chai latte from the coffee bar, as well as the roasted salmon entree & the flounder sandwich with fries. The food was plated beautifully, with care. ... Very aesthetically pleasing! The salmon was cooked perfectly with crispy skin and the flounder was delicious. The fries were nicely salted. Went here for brunch for the first time. The location is amazing and loved walking around this area. They had parallel parking and we got there right at opening so we were able to easily find parking. Our server was very nice and welcoming. I ordered a jerk spice chicken salad and it was extremely filling and full of flavor. The spice of the chicken added such a nice kick to a normal Cobb salad. My partner ordered the chicken and waffles which had a unique blueberry butter that paired very well with the flavors of the chicken. It's not much of an upcharge but be aware if you order any extra sauces they will charge you. The restaurant was overall stunning and had an amazing daytime vibe for brunch with friends, birthday celebration or even a low key breakfast with a loved one. I would certainly come back. read more

Sultry date night at the bar. Visited the Monroe last minute and although no openings available for 1 hour, we were welcomed at the bar for dinner and drinks. The bartenders were stylish and knowledgeable, crafting new spins on old classics (Aperol spritz and margaritas) and one of the best zero alcohol cocktails I have ever had. Music was perfect, neighboring guests fun to talk to, lighting flattering. Ordered Fried chicken to share with Mac and Cheese and truffle fries on the side- OMG- de-lish. So much flavor! Loved the added dipping pesto? sauce, but it was unnecessary. Not sure how one person would have finished that- but it was perfect for me and my hubby. High tops, regular tables, booths, and coffee table seating is scattered around the restaurant. Only negative to the space is that it is very loud. We showed up 45 minutes earlier than our reservation hoping to be sat sooner, and we were sat exactly at our reservation time. People who walked in when we arrived were sat at roughly the same time. The atmosphere, dining selections, and customer service made The Monroe a good place to get together with sisters and friends for decades. By checking out the possibilities online, I had already decided to try the highly rated fried chicken lunch. I was not disappointed in the least. In fact, I was impressed by by the crispy coating and the moist and flavorful white meat inside both ball shaped breast pieces with most of the bones removed. Before finishing the first piece, I cut a few bites from the second piece to share with others who ordered different meals at the table. Everyone approved. I liked the warm buttery bread so much that I did not taste the extra container of butter. The side salads complemented the chicken nicely. Hubby preferred the macaroni salad, but I enjoyed the marinated combination more. One guest warned us about the appetizer spread for the crackers having a kick to it, so I spread it thinly enough for the spiciness to be just right. The resulting flavors were unique and an ideal opener before our meals. The only downside of our visit was the pricey ticket left by the city of Orlando on my car parked across the street from the restaurant. Having an extremely difficult time finding the location (building names and numbered addresses), we arrived later than the designated time. I noticed the 2 hour limit on the sign, but I missed the concept of figuring out the necessity and how to prepay for street parking. I was unable to find any handicap parking for my husband, and I had no clue about city parking, since this was my first time for this experience or to be in this area. read more

Such a hidden gem this is. It is really cute in the inside. They have a nice just hang out with friends area. This area has a sofa and chairs that is inviting for a cozy area to visit. They also have a nice outside patio area as well. We were greeted as soon as we walked it by the hostess. We ordered a few appetizers to start off with. First of all, their fried chicken is absolutely amazing, perfectly crispy, and so well seasoned, and you must order it in one form or the other for brunch. I ended up getting the southwest style chicken salad, and it was incredible. Speaking of must order, the cinnamon roll quesito cannot be missed. It is served in a hot pan and smothered in cream cheese icing. They sell out of these pretty quickly during brunch, so keep that in mind! We arrived a little early and grabbed a drink at the bar, where the bartender was super friendly and gave us great recommendations after we asked what she liked. We came for Magical Dining and ordered the croquettes, the short ribs, jerk chicken, and the Oreo pie and Strawberry Cobbler for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious! The short ribs were tender and flavorful, and the Oreo pie was a nice surprise--not overly chocolaty, but more like the classic cream filling, which made it really enjoyable. Only one small hiccups--my croquettes came out late because the wrong appetizer was brought at first--but the staff handled it and it didn't take away from the night. My favorite thing to get is The Monroe's Famous Fried Chicken and I think it provides the most value in terms of price and flavor. But I've also tried the steak and crispy chicken sandwich. All the food is solid, but sometimes I think things lack some salt or seasoning. The thing about good Southern food is that it's a flavor bomb; there have been times where I've felt a little underwhelmed with the food. But the quality of the ingredients is really good and everything is cooked well. The cocktails here are also sooo good. Their bartenders are fantastic and I've never had a bad cocktail. They get their coffee from Foxtail and that's fine. I don't think it's super good, but the not the worst I've had from a brunch spot. The cocktails are always inventive and the atmosphere is so fun, especially with the recent'y finished green space between the buildings. We have also attended one breakfast with santa event that was so darn cute, and we went to the James Beard nomination dinner back in early June that was just perfectly orchestrated in this space. The location is odd being tucked within what feels like a gentrified new housing area based on the bottom of an apartment building. I was lucky to snag street parking right in front of what felt like a slow lunch rush. Otherwise they offer additional parking at Union West garage. The space itself was captivating to say the least. Wide open with a beautifully centered bar, comfortable couches, and a coffee bar with floor to ceiling windows making the space bright, open and inviting. We came with no reservation but I could see how planning ahead on a busy weekend night is beneficial. The service was great and very attentive and most of the dishes we ordered were top notch. Such as the smash burger and fried chicken sandwich. The burger came with a burger sauce with melted cheese between two patties cooked at just the right temperature. While the fried chicken came with a massive sized crispy chicken topped with a saucy slaw. Both a table hit. While the hubby's steak was just okay. All three served with seasoned steak style fries.
