Came by here finally and really enjoyed the visit. The restaurant is so cozy and welcoming, and the staff are incredibly friendly. We started with the carpaccio which melted in your mouth and was simple but fresh. For mains we tried chicken Maxine's and the chicken parm. To be quite honest I felt the chicken Maxine's sauce to be a bit watery and not as creamy as I hoped. The chicken was well seasoned and juicy, but I think more some cheese to add saltiness and a thicker texture would do it well. As for the chicken parm, the cutlet was a bit soggy but nicely seasoned breading, and everything tasted extremely fresh and like it was made with love. Overall I'd love to come back for brunch or perhaps bite 30 just to try other dishes and enjoy the lovely atmosphere!
I haven't been out in awhile but what a way to come back with Maxine's on Shine. My friend chose this for our book club and we had an amazing time. The atmosphere was perfect. We had the mimosas in the pint which was country chic in the glass. Loved it. I had the crab cake Benedict and it was lovely and delicious. I wish I had pictures but I didn't even have a chance I ate it so fast! You should come for brunch! Our server was fast, efficient, kind and took really great care of us.
We had reservations at 630 but I was hungry earlier so we popped in to see if they could accommodate us. It was a yes with a smile. This began a lovely evening for us. We were there for the Magical Dining and this restaurant did not disappoint. Each person on staff was friendly. Our server Myah was exceptionally friendly. She gave great descriptions of the specials. The manager stopped in and checked on everyone in the place and then the owner made his rounds. So friendly. The food was really good and the decor eclectic. We will definitely return to try their famous brunch.
I was completely unaware this charming little spot existed, except it popped up on my magical dining recommendations. I am so glad it did! We sat in the patio and met Mr Maxine himself. The whole meal was 90 minutes of loveliness. They have plenty of fans moving air around in the Orlando heat so don't be concerned to dine alfresco. It was a great date spot and I believe would be wonderful for groups and parties as well. They create a super friendly atmosphere. For the food; the crabcakes and fried green tomatoes should not be missed. I upgraded to the filet mignon and it was so worth it. I ask for it rare and while it was closed to medium rare the tenderness outweighed any extra 30 seconds of cooking. The au poive was excellent as well. You can skip the blue cheese if you ask! The key lime pie was excellent, but really that chocolate mousse is light as air and not too sweet. I loved the cocktail for its grapefruity finish. 10/10 we will be back. *** note that it is in a neighborhood and you'll need extra time to find street parking
This was a unique restaurant, definitely not some place you'd expect to find in Orlando. The decor was adorable, staff was friendly and the food was great. We came for Magical Dining and got to experience a variety of tasty items. I didn't love that majority of the seating was outside as it was quite warm and muggy. It is nice that it's a dog friendly patio as we definitely need more of those in central Florida! Street parking was ample considering it's Orlando. Can't wait to come back and try their brunch!
Wanted a memorable Anniversary dinner and we definitely got it at Maxine's on Shine. It is nestled in a residential neighborhood so parking during peak times can be a bit tricky. We did make a reservation and arrived shortly after they opened at 5pm. Our immediate feel was that we were entering a speakeasy. Cool decorations, intimate yet casual indoor/outdoor seating, private dining area in rear and plenty of staff. Tables and bar were starting to fill up for their happy hour. Mia our server made her introduction and took great care of us throughout. They had a three course magical special along with regular dinner menu. We started with libations then onto a caprese salad appetizer. Our entrees were Maxines Chicken and Pasta and Beef Lasagna (a recipe taken from the former Italian restaurant that occupied the same space). Both were delicious! We passed on dessert but one of the owners (Mr. Maxine) cane to our table and personally toasted us with a limerick and champagne. We truly welcome the opportunity to return with or without an occasion. Enjoy!
I recently went to Maxine's on Shine for a brunch date, and it had been years since my last visit. My date made reservations, which I highly recommend because it does get busy. We got lucky and found street parking nearby, which was a plus. It was a hot day, so we chose to sit inside where they had a nice live performance going on the atmosphere was definitely a vibe. Our waiter, Steve, was great and attentive, starting us off with water right away. I ordered the Sangriato, which was pretty good. For food, my date ordered the steak & eggs and I went with the shrimp omelet, both served with potatoes and a biscuit. Unfortunately, my meal was just okay something about it didn't quite hit for me. On the other hand, my date enjoyed his meal enough to take the rest to go. Overall, the service and ambiance were really nice, but the food was a bit of a hit or miss for me this time around.
How cute is this place!! We were welcomed by 3 different employees as we were waiting to be seated. We sat at the bar where Ivy served me the most awesome Bloody Mary! Everyone was just soooo nice! Ivy, Tom and Steve (I took a picture of them that I wanted to post but apparently I didn't save it ~ sorry guys) especially had the best customer service! Oh yeah, it's a rather small space so making a reservation would be best. There was even a lady playing acoustic guitar. Parking was minimal so you may have to park a few streets over and walk. The home fries/potatoes were delicious so don't forget to grab a side of those.
We recently went to Maxine's on Shine after hearing so many wonderful things about this hidden gem. It is beautifully decorated, and feature some artwork from local artists. The server was very attentive and gave great recommendations for food and drinks. We went for a bite 30 and the deal was amazing. It was happy hour during that time as well and the five dollar sangria was a great way to start our evening. I chose to have the caprese salad, and the chicken Maxine's as my entree. Both were delicious and fresh. I cannot wait to return for brunch and the regular menu.
Fantastic experience. Maxine's has an eclectic vibe that is pretty cool. The service was excellent, our guy Derrick took great care of us. As for the food, the braised brisket was exceptional. It's an absolute must order and Maxine's is a must visit.
Went to Maxine's for brunch and had a good time. It was a slow Saturday, so even though we had some folks in our large party they were really cool about everything. I want to start by saying that our server Derick was great. He was very good at making the desired accommodations. One of the reasons that this review is a 4/5 stars is because the kitchen does not seem to be great at listening. Someone in our party ordered the veggie omelette without mushrooms, the kitchen made it with mushrooms, fortunately our server caught it and asked them to remake it immediately, so that Person's food didn't come out too much later. However, there was a different person who was supposed to get a seafood omelette, and the kitchen had made it with brisket instead. That individual's food took a bit to arrive. We also requested that the plain waffle that was ordered not have powdered sugar on it, but it still did. I ended up doing the chicken and waffles. Overall, it was good, but I did have one complaint. I saw that the entree was served with gravy, but I did not see expect the sausage gravy to be on top of the waffles, and since the waffles are sweeter than average, I just found that choice to be gross. The fried chicken with the gravy was very good though. When the server noticed I was not eating the waffle, he ended up bringing me a quarter of another one plain. The plain waffle was pretty good. I wish it was a little crispier, but that is just a personal preference.
Went here for brunch and overall had a mixed experience. Just like many other reviews mention, parking is definitely a challenge, so plan ahead. The decor is really charming and fun, and with the beautiful weather we opted to sit outside. Our server was excellent. She was friendly, attentive, and made the experience more enjoyable. Most of the food was okay. I ordered the brisket with grits, which had okay flavor, but unfortunately the biscuit it came with was rock hard and not enjoyable. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles, which came with scrambled eggs and gravy on the chicken. Overall, a nice spot for the atmosphere and service, but a few inconsistencies with the food.
Celebrated my birthday with my family. Friendly staff, tasty food. We went early for brunch on a Sunday morning. Stout braised Brisket was the best item we ordered. The breakfast potatoes were great. Quiche was good. My son said the chicken was dry in his chicken & waffles. They did a champagne toast for me for my birthday that included a glass for my husband and a non alcoholic drink for my son. Go check it out.

Went to Maxine's for magical dining with a group of 7. We were seated in the "chapel" which is a private nook in the back. I was glad to have been seated there as on the way out the main dining area was full, loud, and very warm! We had their happy hour special which was a bottle of wine and a cheese platter, which was extremely well plated and had a nice variety! I think we tried everything on the magical dining menu within our group and everyone was very pleased, except the person who ordered the chicken - she felt she could have made it herself at home so it wasn't as worth it to her. Our server wasn't great to be honest, but she tried. She had trouble understanding us,, and we had trouble understanding her. She also seemed extremely anxious, which several of us noticed. It was really off-putting. We were never offered refills or a chance to order a second drink and we were there over two hours. We also had to go and search for her to get our checks after we'd been done eating for at least 20 minutes. This is what adding auto gratuity does unfortunately - it diminishes service. Maxine's charges 18% gratuity regardless of party size and a 4% higher non-cash price. We knew this in advance and decided to go anyway, but I didn't love it. Had a lovely evening with friends, but I don't feel compelled to revisit again soon. read more

Let me start by saying that if I could give more than five stars I would! I came here for brunch for my birthday last weekend and had the best time. We made a reservation well in advance and my group was seated in the private room in the back, which was really nice since there were 9 of us and it made it easier to talk and not have a lot of background noise. Our server, Steve, was really kind and patient with us and made great suggestions. A few of us ended up with the largest size mimosa I have ever seen, but for the price it was totally worth it! Food wise, I ordered the friend green tomatoes and the chicken and waffles. Both were so good, honestly no complaints. And then after all of us had finished our food, Kirt came back with a surprise birthday toast for me! Overall, everything was so amazing from the drinks, to the food, to the experience. I will definitely be back! Thank you for making my birthday so special :) read more

Update from my previous review: Their service is still excellent, and their décor remains eclectic. On this second visit, I sat near the back wall of the patio area and got to admire their Christmas decorations up close. There was even some fake snow. I tried the vegetable quiche Lorraine, which, while good, came in a very small portion. Their portions tend to be quite small, so keep that in mind when ordering an appetizer or entrée. Finally, the icing on the cake: we got to see Kurt perform (he recites poetry every once in a while, and boy, does he know how to entertain a crowd), and were delighted by Maxine's company at our table for a few minutes and her refreshingly unfiltered thoughts :) read more
Had a girls brunch at Maxine's and it was such a great time! The host and servers had such a bright and friendly personality! They have indoor, outdoor, and sidewalk seating for your choosing. We opted for the sidewalk to be in the heart of the moment of everyone walking by! I got the chicken and waffles and it was pretty good! Nothing crazy to write home about but definitely hit the spot. I also got a mango mimosa, which tasted good as well - just not a fan of champagne so I am a little biased on not ordering that again. Such a quaint little place to have brunch - can see myself coming back again! read more
The vintage decor and sultry vibe gives this cozy location its personality. There are both indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor seating allows furbabies, and I highly recommend you always make a reservation. The customer service here is great. The bartender and servers are nice and really take care of you. The fried green tomatoes and crabcake was tasty. The chicken breast for the chicken and waffles were kind of dry, and the waffles were soggy. Although the food tasted good, I was expecting a little more in terms of quality. I think I would return for the drinks, but I'd sit out from the food. I heard there are shows here during some nights as well, but I visited in the morning for brunch. read more
The restaurant's decor is very busy and eclectic, which could be good if you like that style, or not if you'd find it a bit overstimulating. The crab cake had very good flavor. I've had better escargot at other restaurants - it was nothing special here. The duck confit was delicious and perfectly crispy! The portion size was so filling and I really liked the goat cheese polenta! The mocktail I got was way too sweet and sour (thus, the Sour Patch Kid garnish), but still overkill for me. Maxine and her husband came out and chatted with the tables, which was like experiencing a character dinner. read more

Decided to come for the first time and bring a friend for their birthday dinner (first time as well!) during Bite30. I tried their salmon entree, it was spectacular. The sweet potatos and veggies were prepared wonderfully. The app was of lox on naan and fried green tomatoes with pamento cheese were delicious. Service was extraordinary! Owner came out and made our best friend feel very special for her birthday. He helped us take photos outside (beautiful patio and art) and even offered us a glass of champagne to cheers! Highly unexpected experience but absolutely fun. This place is a hidden gem in Orlando! read more

What a funky and delicious spot! From the decor to the expertly crafted dishes, you really can't go wrong with choosing this place for your Sunday brunch. I wanted to get a bottle of champagne to share with the tables for mimosas, but then I discovered this size of mimosa they have called a quart. It's a whole bottle of champagne made in one glass into one mimosa meant for just one person. All their flavors looked great, but I opted for the seasonal mimosa (it was apple cider). It was perfect because it wasn't too sweet :) We were so hungry that we started eating before I could snap pictures of our dishes (rookie Yelp mistake). Although the pictures don't accurately show the portions because we ate some of it, I can guarantee you that we definitely had to bring home leftovers because it was a lot of food! The crab cakes in my eggs benedict were delicious and perfectly crispy. The eggs were poached perfectly also. My fiancé said his chicken and waffles were great as well! The staff were so friendly, funny, and kind. Our waitress gave us great suggestions. Also, one of the owner's came by to refill our waters and asked how everything was going with our brunch. We started discussing how my fiancé and I just got engaged, and he gave us the cutest story of how they were actually remarried in the restaurant! 10 out of 10 decor, vibes, staff, food, and mimosa! We will definitely be back and I'll try to remember to let Yelp eat first before we do haha. read more
Very nice local gem! The parking is mostly street parking, so be prepared for that. The fried green tomatoes and escargot were good, but I've had much better other places. The crab cake was good! The duck confit was amazing. Great flavor, nice crispy skin. $28 and I was sufficiently full. Worth the price in my opinion. Only complaint is that the goat cheese polenta was not warm/hot when it came out. I would've preferred it if the polenta had more butter and was more smooth and loose, rather than dense, but flavor was good. I would come back. It's nice to support a local restaurant. Interior and back patio are very quirky and cute. The owners come and talk to every table. The vibe is very friendly. read more
I went for brunch on a Saturday 11:30. We sat outside in the patio which was a really cute are and nice to sit if the weather permits. Since it was prime time the service was a little slow but not too horrible. I got the lobster eggs Benedict. Unfortunately my whole dish was cold. The eggs were hard and there was barely any lobster meat. I know lobster is expensive, but I felt it wasn't properly proportionate to the whole dish as it should. The potato wedges were good but cold as well. The cinnamon rolls were a great sweet treat and luckily those were warm. I would still go back because everything I had was good tasting regardless of the my main dish being a little cold. read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants in central Florida. I've been coming for about two years now and it is my favorite place to bring a friend or family member that's visiting. The menu is super diverse and has something for everyone. There are great vegan and gluten free options. I make sure to visit every magical dining because they have the best menu and usually offer a wine pairing which just completes the experience. The decor is funky and eclectic and great representation of the owners who are usually on site and go table to table to really connect with their patrons. The owners and staff are some of the nicest people I have come across in service. They are so accommodating and make you feel like a welcomed guest. They have indoor and outdoor seating and are pet friendly. Parking is a pain on the weekends but there's plenty of street parking just be prepared to use your parallel skills. You cannot go wrong with anything on their menu. But my faves are cheese cigars, chicken Milanese, lobster roll, their entire brunch menu, and chocolate mouse. Literally everything is read more
What a great experience I had at Maxine's!! It was my first time there but I will definitely be going back!! We were there to celebrate my friends birthday and they surprised us by putting us in a smaller back room so it was just us! But I loved the entire relaxed environment of this place. They really made you feel like you were at home. The service was TOP notch. Since we were celebrating my friends birthday the owner came in with a free small drink and gave an incredible toast!!! It was such a fun experience!! Now let's move on to food and drinks. The drinks are incredible, I attached a photo of the whole bottle Mimosa I had!! It comes in this mason jar that is fashioned into a wine glass. It was the best. For my meal I had the crab cakes eggs Benedict, and oh my gosh, it was amazing!! The crab cakes were SO good!! I am looking forward to my next visit back!! read more

Maxine's On Sunshine is simply outstanding, from the food to the atmosphere to the service, everything was spot on! We started with appetizers and were blown away right from the start. The biscuits and gravy were perfectly fluffy and full of flavor, the fried green tomatoes were delicious, and the crab cake was absolutely divine. For our entrées, the chicken and waffles were a total winner, comfort food done to perfection. Our friends ordered the hamburger and couldn't stop raving about it either. The atmosphere was warm, vibrant, and so inviting, made even better by the live music that set the perfect mood for a celebratory afternoon. But the real standout of the day was our server, Ricky. He went truly above and beyond to make us feel special in every way. From securing a wonderful table on the patio, to keeping food and drinks coming at just the right pace, to surprising us with a complimentary champagne toast to celebrate two birthdays in our group, Ricky made the time genuinely memorable. That kind of thoughtful, personal service is rare and it made all the difference. Maxine's On Sunshine is a must-visit. We will absolutely be back, and we'll be requesting Ricky! Highly recommend for any special occasion or just a fantastic meal out! read more
I visited Maxine's for a birthday brunch and had a wonderful time! The service was great and very accommodating. Maxine even came to our table to welcome us. There was also live music and we had a sing along. I had the Maxine's sangria as my beverage and it was tasty and not overly sweet. Sadly, I was not impressed with the food. I had the braised brisket and while salt was used, I didn't experience many other flavors. I did enjoy the biscuit that came with the meal. I would say that the drinks, service, and welcoming environment are the stars of the show here. I would suggest this restaurant for the great vibes! read more
Maxine's on Shine is an Orlando institution. Luckily, we had a reservation so we didn't have to wait too long to get a table for a weekend brunch spot. As you may have surmised from other reviews, parking is tricky--we did several laps and finally found a spot in residential territory. The service was unremarkable, good but nothing over the top. The food was also good but unremarkable--I had a lobster roll, and while it was good, there was a bit of shell in my sandwich, which sort of killed it for me. Someone in my party had a crab cake and their meal also had shell in it. As far as ambiance goes, it's a cute, kitschy vibe, the outdoor seating was nice, but overall the net experience was neutral, neutral positive. For the price tag, I don't see me coming back here with any regularity. read more
Maxine's on Shine is such a gem! True to its accolades as "Best Neighborhood Restaurant", my husband and I felt like we were enjoying dinner at a friend's house. The staff are welcoming and amazing, and their decor is one of a kind. Everything, from their cocktails to entrees, were delicious. My favorite bites of the night were their Don't Bogart that Salmon appetizer, Applewood Pork tenderloin, and Chocolate Kahlua Mousse. They have bar seating in their dining room, a private space for parties, but also a vast outdoor patio. We will definitely be back again! I almost forgot to mention that they are very popular, and I recommend making reservations -- I made mine here on the Yelp app! Happy dining! read more
I attended one of the special event nights at Maxine's which are really a deal. $75 for 3 courses and includes the show. The restaurant was decorated for the mood with candles, strings of lights and decorations that set the dark Victorian mood. For one night only Phatasmagoria, professional actors, presented 'Poe, Thru The Tales Darkly.' I had seen this show advertised in Illinois and was thrilled that Maxine's brought the show to Orlando. I attended the second showing and Maxine is very efficient at organizing these events. After we sat down and ordered the show started and different Poe works were presented between courses. The staff provided excellent service and the show flowed smoothly. I had been to a vaudeville show at Maxine's but it has been some time and I forgot how much fun I have at their special events. The actors were excellent, stayed in character and you could clearly hear them and the special effects soundscape. I had the 'Don't Bogart the Salmon appetizer, 'Thee Meatloaf' that came with mashed and green beans and carrots and finally the 'Annabel Lee's Berries Romanoff' which was my favorite. The actors roamed the room and turned quickly and startled me. I immediately burst out in laughter. Great hosts, great food and a wonderful show. read more
4.5 Stars Maxine's is an Orlando institution. It's quirky, kitschy, fun, and a labor of love built by Maxine and Kirt. Nestled in a residential neighborhood, this lively restaurant is full of personality and is a fantastic part of the community. We've come here for brunch and dinner, and the food always hits. On nice days, it's fun to sit outside to enjoy the Florida sun and air; on gloomier days, I love sitting indoors amid the art and vibey interior. I love getting the Chicken and Waffles or the Stout Braised Brisket for brunch; and I usually get the Chicken Parm or NY Strip for dinner. If you wanna try them for the first time, I recommend coming during Magical Dining or Bite30 as they usually participate and have a great deal. If you come with a larger group, they usually place you inside the chapel, which is a gothic and romantic monument to Maxine and Kirt's relationship. All the servers here are fantastic. Lots of personality -- very attentive and friendly. Parking is the biggest pain here. Being located in a neighborhood, the only parking available is street parking, so you need to factor time in for that. No kids under 7yo after 7p; no strollers at any time. read more
