Let me start by saying I've never had a bad meal at The Stubborn Mule, and this visit was no different! I ordered the Shrimp & Grits for my entrée and the Seasonal Bread Pudding for dessert, and overall, I really enjoyed my meal. The shrimp were juicy and flavorful, and the sausage was SO good! All of the flavors came together beautifully. Their Gouda grits are top-notch--creamy, flavorful, the peppers and onions added such a nice touch. Every component worked so well together, and the dish was extremely filling. I was definitely satisfied! I would have given the restaurant 5 stars, yet the bread pudding was a bit of a letdown for me. The texture was much denser than what I'm used to, so it wasn't quite my favorite. And y'all... the portion of ice cream that came with it was laughable! It was basically half a scoop of ice cream sitting next to this HUGE piece of bread pudding. Went here before going to a concert at the Kia center. The food was delicious. I had the apple sunflower pesto pizza, which was amazing like incredible and my friend had the burger, which was also pretty decent We sat outside and ended up being really cool. I come here for happy hour all the time and used to come a lot for brunch. Decided to stop by for Magical Dining and overall the experience was pretty good. We loved our appetizers, which were the pork belly and the crab dip. Both very delicious. We both got the hanger steak and were underwhelmed with the dish overall. The steak was cooked to the temperature we like, but the sides were nothing to write home about though they sounded very promising. For dessert, we tried the strawberry cake and chocolate cake both really good options. I met up with a friend after my jog around lake Eola and I see why they love this place ! During the week they have happy hour specials and it's said to be a lot less crowded than the weekends so we decided to order food and catch up. Our server , Maria was very attentive and offered great options as far as drinks and food. We started off with hot honey wings and bruschetta for appetizers and we both got chicken linguine for dinner. I ended taking mind to go because it was a lot after my run but everything was really good. Really impressed with the food and service! My hubby and I stopped in for a quick bite before an art show next door so just wanted something small to share. We got the Chipotle Cheesesteak and chose rosemary parmesan fries for our side. And we each got the Stubborn mule. Food and drinks came out super quick. Drinks within 5 minutes and food about another 5 minutes. The cheesesteak was cut in half for us and our server also brought an extra plate. The meat was very flavorful and tender. It was also nice and cheesy and had caramelized onions. The bread was fresh, slightly toasted on top, soft inside but strong enough to hold all the meat and cheesy goodness. A local neighborhood joint but classy too. You can walk in dressed up or totally casual and fit right in either way. The staff was super friendly and on top of it. There was a prix fixe menu when we went so obviously I ordered from that. For apps we had the Korean bbq chicken skewers and the caprese. Entree was airline chicken and steak. Dessert was dark chocolate cake and strawberry trifle. The caprese could use salt but the Korean bbq chicken so crunchy. I loved it. Certainly started on the wrong foot after being seated quickly and efficiently: you scan what's supposedly an extended wine list: I ordered the Alto Moncayo Veraton; 5 minutes later, "we're out of it" came back as the answer. Incredibly, this was "on repeat" for the next FIVE wines that I tried to order: Clos de los Siete, Tres Picos, Piattelli Malbec, Textbook Napa Merlot, Hesvera Ribero del Duero - ALL unavailable! It was surreal! At this point, you'd swear that it's a voice from above rumbling, " Don't drink tonight!" Well, on to dinner. From a value point of view, the $40 Magical Dining menu was excellent. The sticky pork belly was a ginormous portion - we only shared one and took a whole order home for a rainy day; prep-wise, it's all deep-fried, with a very sweet sticky sauce drowning the whole dish. It was "delicious" alright - what brain doesn't like brain food (sugar); half-way healthy it wasn't. We both had the hanger steak - beefy, flavorful, meat, but not seasoned at all. The potato side was very good. Bread pudding was not soft and gooey enough, while the chocolate cake boasts a lovely ganache hidden inside a cake that's a bit too dry. We came here for Magical Dining midweek and this place is definitely a vibe! The server was great! We had the pork belly and caprese appetizers which were both delicious. Unfortunately, the entrees left a lot to be desired. I was really excited about a hangar steak but it was really bland, like, literally no flavor. Even a little bit of course sea salt would have made a big difference. The carrots were good and the scalloped potatoes were tasty but the steak was such a disappointment. My husband had the "hot honey" chicken which was neither hot nor honey tasting. The chicken was overcooked and dry and the whole dish tasted so strongly of citrus/lemon with zero spice or heat to it! We planned to share but neither of us ate much of either. The desserts were ok, chocolate cake and bananas foster bread pudding. The bread pudding was on the dry side and had next to no banana flavor. My husband had the Spartacus mule and said it was good. It was Happy Hour when I came so I loaded up on some apps and drinks. Happy Hour is 3-6pm Every Day and Friday-Saturday 10pm-11pm 25% off all appetizers, signature mules, signature cocktails, wines by the glass. $7 Mules all day Monday. Up first, the $9.75 sticky pork belly. I liked this dish. Not a huge fan of pork, but the flavor was on point. Then, I tried a $9.75 soft pretzel. Mmmmmm so delicious. Was a little bit of a lag between the appetizer and the main courses which arrived in about 20 minutes, but we were in no rush, plates cleared and clean table topped with water and in no time at all the entrées arrived looking awesome. I've dined here a few times and have thoroughly enjoyed myself every single visit. The spot has a dope, stylish vibe. Inside, you've got rich wood floors, a matching wood ceiling, and warm lighting that gives it a grounded, lodge meets grown bar feel. It was at most 10 minutes past 3p and they're sold out of it already? She blamed the other table for ordering the limit amounts of the rolls (like 3 orders, I believe she said) instead of just not coming by in time so I could have at least ordered 1 to try it right at 3p when I already mentioned to her I wanted to order happy hour items at the beginning of our whole experience there. So I wasn't happy about that bc it was the main reason to stay through happy hour. This place is very cute and perfect for brunch. We had a 20min wait due to it being sunday brunch but that was no problem. We sat at the bar and ordered drinks and waited. How have I lived here 8 years and never been to the Mule?! This place is great. Right off of Lake Eola. Great neighborhood. Amazing bar and patio. And the food? Wow, really elevated bar food. The smashburger was made with brisket which gave it this incredible beefy flavor. Topped with some excellent american melty cheese. And then some wilted arugula and caramelized onions to provide some sweetness to cut through the savory. Might be my favorite burger in Orlando now that Teak is gone. Next, look at that salmon salad. My friend and I wanted to try out a new local happy hour, and now I want to make the Stubborn Mule my new haunt!! The happy hour specials are SUCH a good deal - make sure to try some of their specialty cocktails (mules, of course,) but they also made what might just be my new favorite local espresso martini. We split their pretzel stick shareable and the Giddy Up Burger, and WOW, they were amazing! Our waitress was absolutely perfect - checked on us regularly, yapped with us, and shared the best menu recommendations. She put me onto their "The Cocktail Formerly Known as Purple Rain," and, as a gin lover, it fit the bill perfectly. The bar is cozy and more spacious than it looks, with an almost log-cabin feel. We sat at a high top near the bar and the volume never got uncomfortably loud. My one note is to figure out where you're going to park before you head out for a bite, as downtown parking can get competitive unless you're prepared to park in a city garage and walk aways. I visited the stubborn mule on a Sunday morning for brunch with one of my friends. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. The service throughout our meal was very good and consistent. I ordered the Benedict di Parma. The first time it came out, the eggs yolks were hard, so I ultimately sent it back, but they got it right the second time, and it was delicious. The chive aioli and the prosciutto and the hollandaise were such a good combination. I would absolutely order this again, it was just delicious. I also got a side of the cheesy grits and they were cooked to perfection, and they definitely didn't hold back on the cheese! I also got two of their spicy bloody Mary's and they were delicious. I had previously had a not so great experience here for brunch, but on this visit they honestly nailed it. We sat at a regular table- I was in heels and was not interested in a bar top. Kayla was our server. She was great. We got waters real fast and then had time to look over the menu. I was torn between the raspberry and the pear mule. She said the raspberry was her favorite - so I had that. It was tasty and not too strong on the ginger beer. My husband had the smoked and Mezzy cocktail which was tasty- he let me have a sip. We started with the mussels. The broth was so good I asked to have the broth boxed up after we ate all the mussels. It was a good portion and they did not overcook them. They were large and juicy! The bread was delicious. Soaked up the sauce nicely. For dinner we split the burger (medium- yes!) with an added fried egg, with every penny (surcharge $1.50) and we split the "Let's Eat Cake" entree which is a salmon cake over risotto with their fish of the day which happened to be swordfish. The swordfish was not overcooked. It flaked very nicely. The fish and "cake" were balanced by the saltiness of the Parmesan risotto. So good. For our side, we chose garlic broccolini. It was a good portion and tasty. Overall, food was awesome. Our server apologized that our dinners came out while we still had our appetizer but it's ok. We were not trying to have a long dinner. We were fine to have it all quickly. We wished we ordered dessert as it looked amazing but it was late and we cheated our diets all week- so it's time to tighten up. Always a good experience here. The food is good. Really good. Loud atmosphere though so I'd say not great for a first date. I have also had their steak meal deal that came with ribs and a desert and everything tasted excellent. It is on the pricier side but I feel the portions were reasonably sized.
