Tuscan chicken sandwich with sweet potato waffle fries
    Karis L.

Food quantity: 8/10 Food quality: 8/10 Service: 9/10 Ambience: 8/10 Overall rating: 8.5/10 Loved their sweet potato waffle fries! The Tuscan chicken sandwich was delicious as well on soft ciabatta bread. Would order again!

I had heard a lot about Vanbarrys and had decent expectations coming in, and overall, it was... okay. The atmosphere is definitely a strong point; its casual, lively, and a good spot if you're looking for a neighborhood hangout. The outside patio was nice, not too crowded and the nice breeze from the lake was awesome for a summer night. Service was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. The food, though, didn't wow me. It wasn't bad, but it also wasn't memorable. We shared a pile of appetizers, which overall was fine, just lacking that standout flavor I was hoping for. Of course the free appetizer pickles are quite good, but skip the fried pickles, they lacked the flavor and excitement of the free ones. Would I go back? Maybe, if I'm nearby and want a laid-back spot for drinks. But it's not a destination spot for me.

We had a large group at 6:00 on a Friday and they were slammed! We were just there for dinner but they were showing the NBA Finals and the atmosphere was awesome. I had a "sweet mocktail" and the fig and pig flat bread. Both had great flavor but the flatbread was a little over cooked. Service was great and the prices are really fair for the portions.

Excellent service, atmosphere and food. Took some friends here to try the place for the first time and everyone seemed to enjoy it. We had a large group and were accommodated with no issues at an outdoor table. Service was prompt, helpful and friendly. I was able to customize my ahi bowl by adding the seaweed salad, spicy mayo and eel sauce to match some of the flavors in the other ahi bowl. I replaced the rice with salad to fit my diet. They have a laid back beachy vibe with a firepit in the middle of the sandy area. Adirondack chairs are circled around the firepit. Very relaxing atmosphere.

Our server was great. It was pretty quiet. The frenchie was delicious. Bonus is the pickles they bring in a jar when you get seated!

Love sitting outside of Vanbarry's! Such a nice place to catch lunch on a nice breezy day. I've been going here for years and it never gets old. I'm a fan of their mac and cheese skillet. It's so good - definitely try it. I love their sangria option is great for a hot day. Service was very slow but they made it up to us. We understood though. A busy restaurant is a good restaurant.

Such a fun place! Second time dining here and I really enjoyed it. My party of 12 was celebrating someone's birthday. Our service was good and our food came out in appropriate timing. Our Pot Stickers were decent. The Fried Pickles with that Honey Dijon is really yummy. I had the Mac & Cheese Skillet as my meal. It's luxuriously creamy, but gets almost too rich as you continue to eat it. The first bites are heavenly, though. The sweet potato waffle fries are amazing! We ordered the S'mores, which was a good time. We didn't play any of the available board games, but it's a nice option for families and friends. Lots of events are offered, such as Singo and live music. The atmosphere is family-friendly and enticing for sports enthusiasts, as well. Make sure you hop on that swan boat out front for pictures. I simply can't resist.

I am a fan of the food and variety offered in a Tavern or Pub and have been wanting to check this place out. I like that when you arrive you were greeted right away and given a free jar of pickles. No bread for the table, it's a jar of pickles! Tasty ones too! I got the Mac Cheese appetizer and it was great gooey and tasty. I believe they used a lot of gruyere which was fine but just note that seemed to be the predominant flavor. I followed up with the French dip which was "ok" but I will say the waffle fries (sweet potatoe)were awesome. When they first arrived and in the photo they look like they might be a little over done but NO. I don't know exactly what they did but it seemed like they had a brown sugar bake on them. They were certainly delicious. I was too full to try any of the deserts but overall was a great experience

Vanbarrys is a woman owned restaurant and you can tell because it's run very well. We're never had a bad experience here. Both the food and cocktails are great. I love love love the little s'mores fire that you can order to your table, so cozy!! They also have games like cornhole and ring toss outside.

This is a place to be. They always have different gatherings outside. Tonight was a motorcycle club. Great food, service in cool atmosphere.

Vanbarry's is a great vibe. There's always good music, often live, and there's plenty of TV's if you're trying to watch a game. Our service was awesome, quick and attentive. I got a flatbread that was really tasty, but everything I've had at Vanbarry's has been good. Definitely check it out!

You literally can't go wrong with Vanberry's! From the moment you sit down with a plate of pickles as a starter (yes, please!) to enjoying some live music on the patio, this place just hits. The Vanberry's Bacon Jam Burger? Woah. Absolute perfection--juicy, flavorful, and honestly, I could've easily downed a second one. Paired it with sweet potato waffle fries, and let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Crispy, sweet, and the perfect complement to that mouthwatering burger. Even my 3-year-old cleared his plate with the Bare Naked Burger, which is basically a miracle. That alone tells me this place is a winner for the whole family. Great vibes, fantastic food, and an outdoor setup that makes you want to stay for just one more drink. Can't wait to come back!

    JJ J.

I'll start by saying maybe I'm ordering the wrong thing? I have only come to Vanbarrys a few times over the years, and I've never been impressed by the food. I think the strong points have generally been the live entertainment and the chill vibe, which to be fair, are really important qualities! But the food has never been memorable for me, which leads me to believe this isn't the first time I've ordered the shrimp po boy... and it's not very good. The quality of the bread is great, and it's filled to the BRIM with fried shrimp--those are the positives. The po boy was topped with avocado which I thought was really odd, but beyond that... it just didn't taste like much. The chips and queso we ordered was tasty, so no complaints there. I will try to come back and order something different, but from my experiences over the last decade, my feeling is that this is sort of standard bar food.

I know there are a few locations but we planned to stop at this location specifically during a last min birthday staycation (but not *on* my brthday) If you look online this routinly is on lists of date night and good group dining spots and there will inevitably be a ton of people in the comments complaining about it being "mid" or "basic" but that wasn't our experience at all. We had a great experience here. We initially booked for the first time of our staycation but called last min to push back a few days as I wasn't feeling very well. It was no issue at all and they changed our reservation without issue or complaints & wished me well. The space is really cool. MCM in design with a touch of California beach bungalow. We were seated in a back room with a view of the lake behind. It was a bit loud but most places are these days. I am deaf in one of my ears so one I told our server & she spoke up over the noise and it was a non-issue. Appreciated because that's not always the case. We ordered a glass of wine and the "Shirley After Dark" cocktail (I know it's a wine bar but I just felt like a cocktail) loved it. Would absolutely order it again. We ordered the house salad which was far from basic and delicious and fresh. Very light and decent size. My husband also aired the Cauliflower app which was massive. The hummus was delicious. I'm not a fan of cauliflower but he raved about it. We also split the Butchers Pizza and had them out the hot honey on the side. I can't do spice after destroying my stomach in college so they brought me a side of normal honey so I could hector full flavor profile within my dietary needs. We got to speaking with our server whose name I unfortunately can't remember (light blonde shoulder length hair if management reads this) & she was very knowledgeable about the wine selection. We're not white wine drinkers but the FL heat is a little too much for a glass of red most days so we're trying to get into it. She had 3 recommendations and brought me all three to taste. Unfortunatly I enjoyed was sold out by the time we ordered it (which at the height of tourist summer isn't beyond the realm of reasonability) We then ordered the affogato and olive oil cake. Both were delicious. It was my husband's first time trying an affogato and it has since become a favorite of his. It was mentioned in passing while chatting that we were in a last min staycation as it was my birthday week and we didn't plan anything in advance and made it clear it was not my birthday but she still comped my cocktail and the olive oil cake and wrote a lighthearted "sorry we were out of the wine" on our receipt. Which was a genuinely nice & unexpected gesture. The entire meal was quite affordable even before anything got comped compared with other options of the same caliber in the area. Portons are quite large as well. While I don't love communal tables typically, almost no one was seated at the same table and if they were it was quite far apart (see photos). I can see that being bothersome on a busy night but we were there on a summer night (busy enough to run out of a wine) so I can't imagine it being typically worse than that So I say again, I don't understand what people don't like about this place. We'll be back.

For a simple meal for two people, the service was unreasonably slow throughout the evening. Our server, Svet, was polite and personable, but friendliness alone could not make up for the delays. The hummus appetizer was excellent and was easily the highlight of the meal. It was flavorful and served with pita, cucumbers, carrots, and red peppers. The food presentation overall was attractive and showed promise. The most serious issue occurred when my son ordered a refill of his virgin mojito and was served a drink containing alcohol. He immediately noticed something was wrong after taking a sip and handed it to me. I tasted it as well and confirmed that it contained alcohol. Serving alcohol in a child's drink is a significant mistake and should never happen. We also ordered the steak frites based on a recommendation and were told it was exceptional. Unfortunately, the steak was extremely tough and chewy, making it difficult to eat and far from what was described. Management apologized and removed the steak from the bill, but the combination of excessive wait times, the alcohol mix-up involving a minor, and the disappointing entrée left a poor overall impression.

Everyone shared the same sentiment regarding the quality of their food. However, the service was top notch. We had a fantastic server. I can't recall his name but he was an older Hispanic gentleman. And the view of the shark tanks was pretty cool. The best meal out of the 5 of us was my grandson's. He enjoyed the kids chicken fingers and French fries. His meal came with an ice cream sundae that was cleverly topped with gummy shark candy. This is a family friendly establishment and there is a very long line of folks who are waiting to dine. We made a reservation so this was extremely beneficial. I mention it is family friendly because we found it very disappointing that a group in the front by the shark tanks had way too many libations and were behaving obnoxiously. It would've been preferred if management asked them to depart because this went on well after they finished their meal. We visited the restrooms prior to departing. Cleanliness was also mediocre. Everything we tried was tasty, and the happy-hour pricing made it possible to sample several different dishes. We came to celebrate a friend's birthday as a surprise, and overall, we had a wonderful time. However, one part of the experience could have been handled much better. We brought a personal dessert for the celebration, but the manager would not allow us to serve it and came across as unnecessarily rude when explaining the policy. We respect that restaurants may have rules regarding outside food, but no one informed us of this policy when we made the reservation or when we checked in with the dessert. A simple heads-up beforehand--or a kinder, more professional explanation--would have prevented the disappointment. Despite that interaction, the drinks, food, atmosphere, and rest of the experience were very enjoyable. I would still recommend Norman's, especially for its excellent happy-hour menu, but I hope management improves how special-occasion policies are communicated to guests.

The carbonara is more an Alfredo than a carbonara but was still very tasty. All in all, a solid place to stop in at and we'll probably try it again someday.
