Pioneer Bbq smokes their meats with white oak which gives their meats a smoky flavor without the bitter aftertaste. Pork baby back ribs were tender and had a smoky aroma and flavor from the white oak.  Dry rub gave the ribs a bit of sweetness from the brown sugar and some spice from the black pepper.  Very tasty. Prime beef brisket was tender and juicy.  Peppercorn based dry rub and the smoky flavor combined with the high quality beef into some delicious brisket. Staff was nice and efficient.  I'll miss this place Chef Hanis created.  I was told I could get the same Texas style bbq at a sister restaurant Del's Hideout which employs the same Executive Chef Tim Eylens.  It was back in 2011 I first sampled Chef Hanis food at Carnitas Snack Shack.  Best carnitas I ever had.  It's been since 2023 when I last saw Chef Hanis at the now closed Carbon Bbq.  I hope he is doing well. https://www.hungryones.com/2023/08/carbon-bbq/ To absent friends, lost loves, old gods, and the season of mists; and may each and every one of us always give the devil his due. I got there pretty early around 4:45PM, so it was still pretty empty with only a few other people there. I'm not sure if it was because the restaurant was still empty at the time or if our server was simply that awesome, but she was great! She was very attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu and specials. I started with the chips and salsa and onion rings from the all-day happy hour menu. Both were fresh and tasty. Once my friends arrived, we ordered draft beers, which were also good and came out quickly, with quick refills throughout our visit. I also ordered the mango habanero boneless wings, which came with carrots and celery. The wings were huge, fresh, and served hot. They had a good amount of sauce, with a nice crispy exterior while still being juicy on the inside. I believe it was around $15 for 8 pieces, and I would definitely order them again. I also really like that they mute the music and play the game audio throughout the entire venue. It makes watching the game much more enjoyable. I definitely want to try the Scripps Ranch location next to see if the experience is just as good. You really can't beat all-day happy hour! Overall, a great first experience, and I'll definitely be back to try some of the other menu items.

The Oaks proved to be the perfect venue. When we arrived, the group had commandeered several tables in the dining room. Becky and I bellied up the adjacent large horseshoe shaped bar. The TVs were all tuned to various NFL games. A group of Steelers fans were in the dining room next to our group watching and cheering their team on a giant TV. Becky and I wanted to watch the Seahawks. Mike, Director of the Carlton Oaks Country Club, was happy to put it on one of the many TVs for us. We wanted a snack, so we ordered the Potato Skins. Potato halves filled with cheese, bacon bits and chives. They are cut lengthwise in half for easier dipping and eating. Served with ranch and sour cream for dipping. Bottles of Tapatio, Tabasco and Cholula were provided if you wanted to spice it up. They were quite tasty and the perfect portion size. Price was right too! Because of the acoustics, the dining room can get a little loud. If you just want to chill and take in the view, step outside to the patio. Great views of the golf course. Service at the bar was friendly and on point. The large groups in the dining room were being well taken care of as well.
