I have visited this bar a couple times now and they have very good reubens. They actually make their own corned beef and slice it up for their reubens. Delicious. I really don't see what the big deal is with some of the other, perhaps higher income yelpers on this page, but I had no problems at this pub. The staff were welcoming, the drinks were fine and the food was decent enough bar food. Furthermore, the sound system and the support network around it were more than adequate enough to play music of all sorts of genres. Certainly when I went there for the music it served me just as well as any of the other bars in the area. The bar also has a cool aesthetic mix of Old European decoration mixed with classic metal imagery and anti-fascism. Perhaps that might turn off some of the high class wine sippers in the area, but I think it makes Old Nick's a unique place to visit. If this sounds like your sort of jam, step on in. read more

I want to give this place more than two stars, but the burnt pasty kind of seems like an obvious thing that should have been caught. I bought the Reuban, Bangers n Mash, (2) Mac n Cheese, (2) Nicks Burgers, and Grandma Eleanor's Cornish Pasty. My Roommates and I normally take turns ordering out and trying new places. With the amount of food we ordered I figured the pasty would be given a little more care, this wasn't cheap! Let me start by saying that the metal community has been a HUGE supporter of this bar and the owner of the bar, through a lot of personal and public things. In fact, many of them considered it their metal bar in town. Well after seeing the owner complain all over the internet and talk blatant trash about receiving a poor tip (but receiving a tip nonetheless) from a small group from the metal community, and then playing the victim card, a good handful of us will not go there or go to shows we would normally love to support. Maybe the owner says "good riddance" but just remember that with time, fewer people coming to a bar, it adds $$$ up. I think one should remember that being in the service industry, that comes with bad tips and great tips. But to BLOCK those reviews on Facebook, which were seemingly honest reviews of someone's experience, I find it ironic that an "Antifa" bar would censure free speech. I am in the service industry, and sometimes I get tipped ZERO. So for the owner to go around all over the place and be a poor owner representative, especially on social media, in public, and talk sh*t about getting a less than ideal tip, is not only super unprofessional, it is SO Eugene, and it's completely self-destructive. You have an entire community that comes to your bar, you p*** on them. What IS professional, is to take an honest criticism of someone's experience at your bar and apologize as a business owner for talking blatant trash in front of the party at how crappy they are. Things would have ironed out, reviews on Facebook would have been removed and things would have ironed out. But the owner's continued response is NOT good business. That $19 tab with a $1 tip (because that is honestly all they had), just turns into a $0 tab with $0 tip because no one wants to go somewhere they aren't welcome. And now my future drinks there just turned into $0 with a $0 tip. I go to this bar, as a metal head, and I sometimes tip $3 for a $5 drink. Is that not good enough? read more

I had two drink and sat on the table in the back so they cut me off they could have said use the seat, so I said fine went to get my card back because I was going to leave but my car was in my girlfriend's name because we have a split bank account, they refused to give it back to me. So I got a little pissed and said a few rude words to the "bartender". So some random lady walked up and asked for my card and they gave it to her, I didn't know this girl she could have ran off with it. I asked for the ticket to make sure they didn't over charge it because they are known for doing that, and said okay and didn't tip. The next day I looked at my bank statement and they tipped themselves 5 bucks on my card, if you want to go there make sure they dont steal from you. Let me preface this review by saying we have always loved going to Old Nick's. They generally have a great atmosphere, food and patrons. Today could have just been an off day but there were a couple things that unfortunately made it a very poor experience and my hope is that it's not the regular way of doing things now. First, we were told there's a new food manager so the menu was a bit changed but my wife ordered the falafel/shawarma plate as usual and it was 1/4 the size. I chose the beef stew, which had an overwhelming amount of whole peppercorn (or some similar herb) in every bite. I'm not sure if it was the bottom of the batch or intended to be this way but it was just an awful stew. The menu also stated it would be on top mashers but there were none. All in all a poor experience, especially at the price point. Both meals were $12.50 a piece so it was quite disappointing. Each meal should have been $5 for the amount we received. The bartender left for a good 15 minutes while a patron was waiting to be served and we were ready to check out. Eventually the chef came out and served the guy but it was a very long time to Lea e the bar and its patrons waiting. Needless to say, it'll be a while before we go back to give them another try. Tucked in for a quick couple of drinks on New Year's Eve. It was about 5pm. There was the bartender, two patrons seated at the bar, and the bar dog-Wilbur. Wilbur was quick to greet us with his slobbery orange-tire chew toy. He was very excited to play fetch. We bellied up to the bar. They offer about 8 draft taps - liquor, wine. He tossed us a sample of Santiam Brewing "Bloody Hell" Imperial IPA. It was nice, about 8% alcohol. It was a tangy beer, didn't taste high octane. My second beer was a mild Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. We sat a couple tables we squeezed together. Decor was rock, punk rock, classic old furniture, 1960s and 70s era accessories. They have a stage - I'd return for a show. Bartender was good, efficient, accommodating. Drinks - normal to low priced. $27 for a round of 5. The bar later filled up with mostly working class dudes. Wilbur active all night offering his toy for folks to throw out towards the empty stage area. Clean restrooms. Saw a kitchen, but didn't notice food. read more

Went there for their "Harry Potter ball" and it was a complete waste of money. They said it was kid friendly, yet the kids weren't even aloud inside where the "ball" was supposed to be. Which was just a tiny, rundown bar. They had maybe 10 local booths selling stuff and one tent with two craft activities. Lead by people with pinecones and glue guns. Okay, so here is the scoop. It's so nice to see the old Rascals place revived. After years of rain and moss on the old roof it's finally being shook off. The vibe is a pub with bangers and mash front and center. However, they also have a Tempeh Ruben on the menu. Super friendly staff and they have a stage in the venue. Great selection of beers, Scottish and Irish whiskeys. Also, they have a food window open on the side of the building that serves from 10am- midnight. Good bar, nice atmosphere and great bartender. But was bitten by a dog (siberian husky), that was IN the bar, with its collar off roaming around freely, TWICE.. the dog was friendly with many people in the bar (they all seemed like regulars) and the bartender, as the dog and her were playing near the kitchen enterance. This sounds like it is normally a nice place, but I have to review based on my experience. The creators of the event is only allowing positive reviews to be posted, this is my deleted review. A bit more planning and this would have been great. Thank goodness that it was a dry night or it would have been down right awful. I feel like others with the fact that it was a completely miss advertised event. They had posted that there would be fire dancers and belly dancers, juggling etc. Nothing to do but look at the handful of vendors. We had hoped to get some food, but with no place warm to sit down we had to leave. Didn't think it was worth it to make it back after going and getting a dinner. Absolutely terrible place. I watched the bartender John or whatever his name is touch my raw hamburger and bacon, then the plate, vegetables, and cheese, and microwave the mac. Then back to the bar to serve customers drinks and touching money, then back to the kitchen....all without washing his hands. Disgusting! The worst mac and cheese I've ever had in my life. Far overcooked penne to mush, with the blandest cheese sauce and some canned tasting cold green salsa on top. The burger was cold, over cooked and dry, with rock hard bacon. My plate was dirty and the bowl had what looked like old dried cheese on the outside of it. The spoon was dirty. There were no napkins and when I asked for one was told "we couldn't afford 'em this time". Seriously?! The place smells moldy and gross when you walk in. The glasses and especially the pitchers are dirty. You can see them at the bar. When I went to the bathroom I slipped on the urine covered floor and almost went down but managed to save myself on the out of order urinal. The bartender told very inappropriate, racist jokes to what I'm sure are regulars the entire time I waited for my food. Which took 25 minutes...with 2 people sitting at the bar. Old Nick's may just be my new favorite bar in Eugene. From sexually explicit artwork on the walls to small personal pitchers of beer this place has the fun edge that most other bars only try to recreate. I came here to see a friend's band and noticed the parking lot fills up pretty quickly on a Friday night. No worries, theres street parking right next to the parking lot. This place's location sits right between the Whiteaker and downtown but is a place that should not be overlooked. I want to try their food sometime because it sounds really good and I think they might even have brunch on the weekends? The vibe of everyone was great and very laid back where you don't feel like you have to be a certain person to enjoy yourself. I've definitely gotten weird vibes from other bars but not at Old Nick's. The bartenders were friendly and there is definitely a large amount of seating as well as an outdoor smoking patio with more tables and chairs. read more
