The shop is a combination of a bakery and gift shop. It's super cute and feels like something out of a storybook. Lots of pink. Screams "sugar, spice, everything nice". Behind the counter were two ladies who were friendly and took our order for a variety of pastries from the counter. We enjoyed all the goodies we bought. Compared to other bakeries down the street, this one seems to focus more on being a cutesy gift shop than a bakery. The pastries don't seem to be flying off the shelves and getting replaced as quickly as the ones down the block. However, they tasted good and fresh. read more

Cute bakery and the name says it all! So many Danish baked goods sold here among the more familiar fair. They also had spectacular cookie houses. I'd call them gingerbread houses but not sure if they're all made out of gingerbread. It's a tiny bakery and a tight squeeze making your way through but manageable and worth it. Best bakery in Solvang. We ordered the ham & cheese croissant and I definitely recommend asking for them to be heated. Those were delicious! I also ordered a vanilla latte, but the flavor wasn't all that great. I believe it was the espresso beans, they were kind of bitter and just not my favorite. We bought a bucket of cookies which was around $27 (?) for 1lb. The bucket was very cute with a pink bow on the handle. We later went to another bakery where their cookie bucket was around $24 for 2lbs. I'm not sure what the taste difference is, and I'm sure the Solvang Bakery cookie bucket is yummy, but that's a pretty stark contrast. The atmosphere is great, they have a cute little garden in the back with private seating away from the crowds. The staff is knowledgeable and very sweet. Overall, we will be back next time we visit and this will be our go to bakery! read more

We swung by on the way down to LA by way of Hwy 101. Solvang = danish cookies. Bought a tub of butter cookies. Yum yum. A good variety in the tub. The tub looks tiny but when you open the lid there are stacks of cookies, each layer separated by butcher paper. Each cookie is one bite. Two at most. Also bought a loaf of apple cinnamon bread. This adorable, sweet little bakery was one of many that are located in dotted around Solvang. I recommend this sweet little bakery because we found the most delicious and flavorful cheddar cheese jalapeño bread.... I have to tell you we loved it so much we waited in the long line to purchase it and ended up eating half of the loaf as we waited. It was comical. People were commenting on what a great idea that was, but we were so hungry we had just made the three hour ride up. This bread was delicious and so satisfying. The next day we walked around to some of the other bakeries and nobody had this bread just the Solvang bakery, so good so damn good. The outside of the bakery is beautiful. I was very happy they allowed dogs. I brought my dog with me and she loved to walk around the store. She got some treats for her and the cookies are delicious I bought two packages to take with me on the road. There's something hard to pin point but the subtle blend of classic old school mixed with new age melds perfectly here! OK full disclosure, we only had coffee here but it was excellent! Our nearby hotel (Corque) doesn't have coffee available each morning so I made the short walk to the Solvang Bakery. The staff was very friendly (Karen and her daughter?) and they recognized me each morning. They always asked how our trip was going and even had a suggestion for a hike to a waterfall nearby which we took and really enjoyed it. The coffee was made custom for us (half decaf half regular lattes made with half and half) and it was the best coffee we'd had on the whole trip! I love mornings in Solvang.  It's cool and quiet.  I admire the classic Danish architecture. On this morning I walked over to Solvang Bakery.   I have had Krinkles from Trader Joes.  They were baked back east and shipped to the west coast.  Looks like Solvang Bakery has fresh ones.  Pastry shell had a crispy outer layer with a soft inner layer.  Lots of almond paste to give this treat lots of almond flavor.  Thin strips of icing add a burst of sweetness.  Delicious tasting treat. Danish butter cookies come in a plastic tub.  You get 1 pound of cookies and different varieties are layered inside.  Top layer had a cinnamon flavored cookie which had a very tasty mix of sweet butter and cinnamon flavor.  There was also a butter cookie with slivers of almonds.  Mix of butter and light almond flavor was tasty.  2nd layer had a butter cookie with chocolate chips.  Loved the mix of butter and chocolate flavor.  There was also another butter cookie with dark streaks in it.  Tasted mostly like a buttery cookie.  Very tasty.  3rd layer had more of the chocolate chip cookies and almond cookies which were full of almond bits and almond flavor. I loved the fresh buttery aroma as I opened the tub to eat some cookies.  These butter cookies had a nice crunch and were full of flavor.  Much better than the grocery store tins.  Solvang Bakery is the first Danish bakery I visited and is one of my favorites. read more

Four people working and my daughter had a cold item in her had and we wanted to order more, but not one worker offered to help us they just stood there dancing and talking so we put our cold item back and walked out. 5 stars for this cute little bakery! My husband and I stopped by yesterday am while we were walking around the town of solvang. When we walked in, we were greeted by two friendly and kind women not sure if they are mother and daughter, but they both were very sweet and welcoming. I can understand how hard it is for this bakery to be in competition with the other larger bakeries in the area, but my husband and I walked into almost every bakery in the Little town of solvang and did not find pastries as fresh and delicious looking as this one. My husband ordered the strawberries and cheese danish warmed up, and I ordered a regular cheese danish warmed up. The young woman working at the counter accidentally got my order wrong and I was able to walk my pastry back in and let her know and she was very kind and gave me my correct order. Their shop is really clean. We stood in line behind a couple of locals who were ordering their dessert orders for the week so we could tell that this was a local favorite. Their shop was very clean, filled with a lot of cute bakery things to buy and the pastries were the best quality around that we could see. Would definitely recommend supporting this small business again. Can't wait to return! read more
